//-------------------------------------------------------// The Shooting Star -by Lord Ohara- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Lunar Spores //-------------------------------------------------------// Lunar Spores I’ll never forget the night that I met him…the shooting star that became the brightest part of my life…I remember it was a full moon and the stars shone brightly down…and then he came out of the darkness…and gave me his light Djose Ohara MDP The full moon shone brightly over the meadow where Djose searched, its blue light illuminating the dark, swaying grass. Djose scanned the dancing blades, his eyes darting left and right across the meadow. “C’mon” he thought to himself, “there’s gotta be some here” Suddenly he grinned triumphantly as small dots of light suddenly shone across the field. “Lunar spores” he grinned. He narrowed his eyes and began to concentrate, reaching into the pool of magic within him. His horn began to glow green as the magic manifested and from the pouch at his side, a small, fine net and jar rose out and hovered before him. “Right lets get started” he said merrily. The net and jar flew forwards while he trotted leisurely behind, the net swiftly darting across the grass gathering clumps of the glowing spores and depositing them into the following jar. The unicorns smile widened as he watched the jar become a small lantern as the amount of spores within it grew. Once the jar was almost full, Djose slowly dipped his concentration and the jar and net slowly lowered themselves to the ground and the glow around his horn vanished. He sat down and wiped the sweat off his brow, “Nurse Redheart should be happy with these” he thought, Sighing he looked up at the twinkling stars and was momentarily lost in the vast beauty of the night sky. “You never could appreciate the stars in Trottingham” he thought to himself He laid on his back with his hooves behind his head and was lost in thoughts of his past as he gazed at the heavens. As he gazed he wished he had somepony share this moment with…it just felt lonely to take in such a sight and be alone. He continued to gaze dreamily into a sky until he spotted a large cloud crossing the moon and the pony’s eyes suddenly widened in horror. “OH BUCK!!!” he cursed and suddenly jumped up. As the cloud passed across the moon, the glowing spores began to vanish as though a black curtain was being drawn across the field. Djose hastily plunged his hoof into his satchel and pulled out a small lid which he jammed onto the top of the jar of spores he had already collected. Turning back to the field, he delved back into his mind to focus the magic. The net sprang off the ground and just as it stopped in front of him, the cloud completely obscured the moon and the spores around his hooves faded into darkness. Scowling, the unicorn dropped his concentration and stomped his hoof in aggravation whilst the net fell to the ground with a soft flump. He watched as the moon re-emerged from behind the cloud, illuminating the meadow once again. Only this time the small luminescent spores did not return. Djose sighed in defeat and looked down at the jar by his side, it was still filled with shimmering silver spores. “Well I was hoping for more” he muttered bitterly whilst using magic to replace the jar and net into his satchel which he lifted back onto his back. He gazed up again at the moon. He knew lunar spores only showed themselves once during a full moon, if the moon disappeared at any point the spores would vanish again until the next full moon unless they were harvested while visible. The moon stared back at him and he stayed there for a moment, once again taking in its beauty before he sighed again and shook his long brown mane. “Well I better get back” Shaking his mane again, he started to slowly trot back across the meadow towards the cluster of lights in the distance which was the quiet town of Ponyville. As he made his way back, he kept glancing up at the stars. He liked stars. Whenever he looked up at them he would feel happy and peaceful…but deep down he felt alone. Suddenly he stopped as he spotted something unusual. Something gold was shooting across the sky leaving a long golden tail as it soared through the heavens. “A shooting star?” he gasped. He had never seen one before. “I guess I should make a wish” he thought. Grinning at his own superstition, he closed his eyes and began to think of what he wanted most. Good health.... his patients cured....a fresh jar of lunar spores.... "I wish I had a special somepony to share my life with..." Slowly he opened his eyes and gazed back at the glittering speck and was about to continue on his journey home when the star did something completely..unnatural. High above where Djose sat, the golden star suddenly changed direction and began to swerve in different directions as though it was drunk. Djose was dumbstruck, he had never seen a shooting star before and even other ponies who had seen them had never mentioned them swaying across the heavens like this. The unicorns suddenly widened as the star soared in a great arc and then began to rocket downwards, straight towards where he sat . With a panicked yell, he dived and covered his head with his hooves as the star soared past, inches above his head. There was a tremendous crashing noise and the ground shook as the object smashed into the ground a short distance away from where he cowered. Tentatively he slowly lowered his hooves from shielding his face and began to cautiously make his way towards the crash site. He stopped and gasped as he reached the edge of a large crater, the ground below had been scorched by the impact. He squinted down and in the centre of the crater he spotted something large and gold that was letting out a faint glow. Cautiously, he began to slowly trot down into the crater and approached the object as slowly as he dared. As he got closer he realised that the object was moving, slowly stirring. "What the..." he muttered and began to trot more quickly until he gasped in amazement. At the centre of the crater laid a Pegasus pony, his coat a deep orange and a long black mane partially covered his young face, his tail was black with a long yellow streak. However what fascinated the young unicorn the most was the fact that the pony's coat was glowing a bright gold which was slowly beginning to fade. The pony moaned and shifted again, his eyes twitching slightly. Instinctively, Djose sat and began to look over the pony for injuries, his hooves moving gently over the pony's coat. After a few moments he determined that the pony had no serious injuries. "H..Hello?" he muttered, gently shaking the pony. The pony stirred and slowly opened an eye. "W..W...Where am I?" he asked quietly. Djose brushed the pony's mane out of his face and smiled, "Your just outside Ponyville" he replied merrily, "I'm Djose, who are you?" The pony winced and shuddered, "H..Help me" he gasped before with a flump he fell into unconsciousness. Djose's eyes narrowed seriously and he reached into his mind for his magic, his horn glowed as the orange pony gently rose into the air. As gently as he could, Djose guided the pony through the air until he rested him gently over his back. "Don't worry I'll take care of you" After making sure the pony was secure over his back, he began to gallop out of the crater and then back towards the glittering lights of Ponyville.
