Music's 'Tail'
Chapter 2: The Party Cannon
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThat first day in Ponyville is definitely a day I will never forget. Especially when I was introduced to this illogical invention called “The Party Cannon.”
This intricate invention is owned by an equally illogical, reality defying pony who goes by the name of Pinkie Pie. And man, I have never met a pony as random and spontaneous as this one, I can say that for a fact.
Chapter 2: The Party Cannon
It took us five days to get to Ponyville. The adventure was exhausting, I will admit. But I don’t think I have ever had as much fun in my life as I did in those few short days.
Considering John ‘didn’t get out of his lab much’, he actually knew a lot about how to survive in the wild. In turn, he taught me a lot.
If I were to have been alone on this adventure, I probably would have eaten stuff that would have potentially killed me. I had no idea how many of the plants and bugs out here had been poisonous. And I continued to repeatedly thank him for making me food so commonly. It was either he made me food, or walked me through every single step of preparing it.
He treated me with such care, it was so bizarre to me. I had grown up being beaten for every thing I did, and I surely had a severe lack of knowledge as to how to take care of myself. And it was embarrassing that every time I did something wrong, I would flinch and quickly whimper a quiet “I’m sorry, please don’t hurt me.” But he would only respond with a sigh and rub the top of my head to comfort me while I slowly came back to reality. I couldn’t help it, with each mistake I would curl into a ball and start shaking, memories of the past haunting me to the point I couldn’t see.
I could admit I was very slowly recovering. But I honestly think it was because of how he treated me when I shut down. I would have expected normal ponies to beg me to come out of it, or get frustrated it happened so frequently. But he just waited, comforting me until I came out of it. I know he said he was socially inexperienced, but I didn’t believe him. Not with how he treated me.
We were walking close to each other as we approached Ponyville. When the gate into the town came into view, John stopped walking, looking to me when I stopped as well.
“I’m going to give you an early warning.” I tilted my head, confused. “There is this certain... Pony, who I kid you not sits by the gate and waits for new ponies. And she’s rather... Hyper, though I believe that is a huge understatement. When we walk through this gate, she will pounce. And she will be practically shaking in excitement. After she gets off from practically hugging you to death, I suggest backing up. Unless, that is, you want to be barraged with dozens of balloons.”
My facial expression must have been rather amusing, because he laughed at whatever expression it was that I had. When I spoke, it was shaky with shock. “I.. But.. Dozens of balloons? Dare I even ask how?”
He smiled, trying not to laugh. “Well... It is this incredibly illogical invention called her Party Cannon. Needless to say, this certain cannon defies all laws of reality, considering it is relatively small but seems to contain an endless amount of balloons, streamers, and glitter. A lot of ponies fear this cannon, actually. It always seems to come out of nowhere, and it’s her way of declaring either a party then and there, or an upcoming party for whatever reason is at hand.”
My eyes were wide, and I barely believed him. “Is this... Even... Possible?”
He laughed at me again. “Apparently so. No one asks about it; probably because no one wants to know where it came from or how it works. I know I surely don’t, and I usually go nuts over inventions like that.” I shook my head in disbelief, but knew it was a matter of figuring it out on my own. He turned towards the gate again, nodding his head in a silent way of asking ‘are you ready?’ I exhaled with a smirk and nodded.
We walked towards the gate together, and I could feel my body tensing slightly at the thought of this odd pony confronting us. When we came to the gate, he opened it and held it open for me with a gentle smile. I returned the smile and passed him, waiting for him on the other side of the gate. Before he could even get through the gate, I was suddenly on the ground.
“OMEEGOSH WHOISTHIS?!”
I groaned from the impact and opened my eyes, seeing a bright pink blur laying across my stomach as my eyes slowly refocused. I heard John’s laughing voice in the background. “This is my new friend, Music. She’s new to Ponyville, but she’s hoping to get a fresh start here.”
I oof’ed loudly as- I swear- she jumped on my stomach. “OMEEGOSH! Do you know what this calls for?!” I heard John laugh louder as this hyper pony continued to use my stomach as a trampoline. “A PARTY!”
Next thing I know I am standing, hardly, and hear a loud Pop! as I get pushed over by what feels like hundreds of helium filled balloons, knocking me onto my side with another loud oof. I groan as I stand up again, and exhale when I see that I am glittering. I looked to John with a oh dear Celestia please help me look, but he just laughs and shakes his head. I see the pink pony jumping around in circles around me, singing something about cupcakes and glitter and parties.
I tried to back away, but I was on the ground again with the giggling ball of reality defying pony on my stomach again. She kept hitting my stomach with her hooves in excitement, much like a baby hitting a table when they laugh. “Omeegosh, Music! I can’t believe this! We haven’t had a new pony in.. In three days! I’m so excited! I must go plan! This is gonna be the party of FOREVER! I have to make sure it’s the best! Omeegosh omeegosh omeegosh!” She started drumming on my stomach, “I must go plan! This party has to be PERFECT!” She pushed off my stomach to get up and, just like she arrived, she was gone in an instant.
This entire scene left me on the ground dizzy and confused. John, still laughing like it’s no big deal, finally walked up to help me up. When I finally stood, it took me a second to gather my balance. I looked to him with an exhausted look. “What.. Was... Should I even ask?”
He smirked. “Probably best not to. That was Pinkie, by the way. And I estimate that in the next three hours we’ll be seeing her again.”
I groaned with a sigh. “Very excitable little thing, isn’t she?”
He smiled and nodded. “That wasn’t even the half of it.”
I hung my head. “Wonderful...”
We had been walking around the town for awhile now. He had excitedly showed me around everywhere. He showed me the town hall, this adorable little deli that I believe was called Sugarcube Corner, to a lot of little places that he said were owned by friends of his, and that I would get a better tour of them later.
He decided to give me a break and not introduce me to anyone, adding that Pinkie would do that instead. I honestly wasn’t looking forward to this little ‘party’ of Pinkie’s, but at the same time I absolutely hated being the center of attention to more than just a few ponies.
We ended up sitting in the park, the quiet a wonderful change from this day of excitement. He mentioned the same thing once we got settled.
“Sorry it was very... Exciting and most likely terrifying for you.”
I smiled to him, tilting my head. “Oh, don’t worry about it... I expected it, but it didn’t make it any less exhausting.”
He laughed softly. “Oh, I’m sure. That reminds me, though... What do you plan on doing as far as a place to stay?”
My smile faded and my eyes fell to the ground. “I haven’t really thought about it... Now that I do, I have no clue in the slightest.”
He looked up, blushing softly as his eyes showed he was nervous. “Well...” He looked down to avert eye contact and pushed up his glasses. “I do have this spare room... But it’s really small... And I don’t know if it’d be.. uhm.. big enough for you. I mean-”
“Kinky.”
His eyes widened and he looked dead at me, blushing even more. “What?!”
I busted out laughing, even falling over onto my side. He just gave me this wide-eyed, mortified look, which only caused me to laugh even harder. He just stared at me, even up until I calmed down, wiped the tears from my eyes, and sat up.
He was practically speechless, and it took everything I had not to bust out laughing again. “It’s... You can.. Ahahahaha! You can sp-speak, y’know. Ahh.. Ahahh..” I looked down, trying to breathe so I can stop. I met his eyes again. “I’m s-sorry... You left yourself open for that one.”
He sighed, laughing softly as he pushed his glasses down. He gulped, still blushing. After meeting my eyes again, he shrugged, obviously attempting to blow off his utter shock. “I guess I did... That was still rather... Unexpected.”
I grinned. “It’s supposed to be, that’s what makes it funny. Anyway, as long as you’re alright with it, I would really appreciate taking you up on your offer.”
He looked up, his eyes wide again. But this time in excitement. “Really?!” He gasped softly when he realized how excited he sounded, and looked down again to hide his blush. “I mean... Uhm... Sure, that’s fine... I just want you to be happy.”
With a soft laugh I shook my head. “You’re so goofy. You don’t need to be so nervous, y’know.”
He looked to the side, pushing up his glasses. “Sor-”
“No.”
He hung his head and facehoofed. “Ugh... That’s a habit.”
I smiled softly, smirking quietly to myself. “I see that.” I tilted my head as I suddenly remembered the pony, Pinkie I believe, from earlier. “When is that party she was talking about supposed to happen?”
John looked up at the sky, noting that the sun was only half visible over the horizon, tilting his head in thought. “My guess, would probably be in abou-”
“SURPRIIIIISSSSEEEE!!!!!!”
I screamed in surprise, falling to the ground and covering my eyes and ears with my hooves. I expected to be blasted with balloons and glitter again, but all I heard was mumbling. I uncovered my ears first.
“Did I scare her...?”
“She’s a tad jumpy.”
“Aw... But I just finished planning for her party. I didn’t mean to scare her.”
“She’s fine, just give her a minute.”
To this, I uncovered my eyes, my ears hanging low on the sides of my head as I looked up at them with big eyes. To them, I probably had a puppy-dog-eye look doing on, especially when I laid my front legs out in front of me. “U-Uhm... Sorry...” I looked down and pushed myself to sit. When I met eyes with John, he gave me a gentle smile, which caused me to blush in embarrassment as I looked to the side.
I heard Pinkie jump, because for some reason, she makes a boing sound when she jumps. I looked to her, and she was all hyper again. “Yay! Music’s okay!” She saw me looking at her and she landed in front of me, grabbing me by my shoulders and twirling me in a circle. “I’m done planning for your party! Come on, it’s getting late! We have to go now before we’re late! Les’go Les’go Les’go!” She grabbed my hoof and practically dragged me rather quickly down the park path. John, laughing quietly, followed behind us.
Little did I know exactly how exciting this party would be. Nor did I expect meeting so many ponies.
Celestia help me, all this excitement is going to be the death of me.
