Load Full StoryNext Chapter"Elements for being late to my entrance exam: 1, Deck, check. 2, disk, check. 3, 2 minutes to get there, checkeroonie!" Drake said as he ran through the crowds. He dodged all the ponies that came in his way, but most ponies just avoided him, since he was a dragon. He was on his way to Duel Academy, a school for teaching ponies "Duel Ponies", the most popular card game in Equestria. Last year, Drake finished Duel High School, and now, he was falling onto the ground, his card falling with him. Wait... what? Drake looked up at the mare he bumped into. She was a unicorn with a lavender coat and a purple/pink mane. Her cutie mark was a 6-point star, with other little stars surrounding it. "Are you OK?" Drake said, offering a hand (claw?).
The mare looked up at Drake. "I'm fine, thank you very much sir" she said, Drake helping her up. She put his deck back together with her magic. "Here you go".
"Thanks!" Drake replied. He was about dash off, when the mare stopped him. "Hold on!" she levitated a card out of her saddlebag. "I have a feeling this card belongs to you". Drake took the card.
"Luster Dragon? Thanks!" Drake exclaimed.
"Glad to help!" the unicorn replied. She walked away. 'She looked like... nah, no way the Queen of Games would give me a card!' Drake thought. He checked his watch. "No! I'm late!" he exclaimed as he ran off towards the center where the entrance exams were being held.
"I am here!" Drake shouted out, causing all the ponies there to stare at him. He smiled awkwardly, and took a seat next to a brown earth pony. "Hi! My name's Drake!" Spike said to the earth pony next to him.
"Time Turner" the earth pony replied in a Trotish (British) accent, Time Turner's name was called over the loudspeaker. "Well, I better get dueling. Nice meeting you!". Drake watched Time Turner duel against one of the testers, who was using an exam deck.
"I play Time Vortex!" Time Turner exclaimed as he place the spell card into the spell slot on his duel disk. "This card skips 5 turns, which means my Shortened Final Countdown reaches 0, which means..." the tester's life points dropped to zero. "I win!". Time Turner walked back up to the stands and sat down next to Drake.
"You managed to beat that guy in only five turns!" Drake praised Time Turner. "And you didn't even use any monsters!".
"My deck is focused on winning within a short period of time, and defending my life points while at it" Time Turner replied. Another stallion sat down next to Time Turner.
"Hi! My name's Drake, and he's Time Turner" Drake said, extending a claw to the stallion. The stallion had a dark green-brown coat, and was wearing a helicopter hat.
"My name's Button Mash" the stallion said. He shaked Drake's claw then turned back to the duels.
"Aren't you D-Pad Mash's brother?" Time Turner asked. Button Mash nodded.
"You must be just as good as him! He's the second best duelist here!" Drake exclaimed. Button sighed.
"I wish. I only just passed the exam with 100 life- hey, did you say second best?" he asked. "Who's the first?".
"Why that would be your's truly!" Drake said happily, pointing at himself. "What kind of deck do you use, Mash?".
"I use a video game-based deck" he replied. "You know, Press Start, Portal Gun, Headcrab Zombie, cards like that. What do you use, Drake?".
"Dragons, of course!" Drake exclaimed. Then Drake's name came over the loudspeaker. "Well, time to get my game on!" he said as he ran down the stairs. He approached the arena, the tester waiting for him. Drake turned on his duel disk, as his opponent did.
"DUEL!" they both exclaimed, drawing five cards each.
Drake vs. Tester
Drake: 4000
Tester: 4000
Drake's turn
"I'll start!" Drake exclaimed. "Draw!" he drew a card. "I summon Magna Drago (ATK:1400/DEF:600) in attack mode!" the monster appeared on the field, ready to attack. "And I throw down a face down" Drake said as he placed a face down card in the spell/trap zone. "Your move!"
Tester's turn
The tester drew a card. "I summon Burning Knuckler - Glassjaw (ATK:2000/DEF:0) in attack mode!" he exclaimed as the boxer monster appeared on the field.
"I play a trap!" Drake exclaimed. "Threatening Roar! Now you can't declare an attack this turn!". The tester frowned angrily.
"I end my turn" he said.
Drake's turn
Drake drew a card. "I summon Lord of D. (ATK:1200/DEF:1100) in attack mode!" he exclaimed as he summoned the monster. "Then I use Ancient Rules! It allows me to Special Summon a level 5 monster or higher" Drake took a card out of his hand. "And with it I summon Cyber Dragon!" the robotic dragon flew down onto the field. "Now Cyber Dragon, destroy his boxer!" the dragon took a hard bite at the monster, and completely destroyed it.
Tester: 3900
"Wait, can't you only summon Cyber Dragon if I have no monsters on the field-"
"Screw the rules! And now, Lord of D. and Magna Drago, direct attack!" the monsters attacked the tester.
Tester: 1300
"Argh!" the tester cried in (minimal) pain.
"I throw down a face down and end my turn!" Drake exclaimed.
Tester's turn
"I place a face down card and end my turn" the tester said with no emotion.
"That's it?" Drake asked, confused.
"You got a problem with short turns?" the test said with a raised eyebrow.
"Nope! It just makes my turn come faster!" Drake replied excitedly.
Drake's turn
Drake drew a card and smirked. "I use Ponymerization to fuse together Lord of D. and the Divine Dragon Ragnarok in my hand to summon... King Dragun (ATK:2400/DEF:1100)!" the giant dragon king came down and let out a ferocious roar. "Now King Dragun, destroy his life points!" the dragon went for a full blown attack, but the tester had other plans.
"I play my face down, Final Destiny! I discard my hand so I can destroy you monster!" he said, grinning.
"But due to my monster's effect, it doesn't effect it!" Drake exclaimed.
"WHAT!?!" the tester said, surprised. The dragon clawed at him, knocking him to the ground.
Tester: 0
"That game!" Drake said. He walked back up to where he was sitting before.
"That was impressive, Drake" Time Turner praised.
"Yeah! A flawless victory!" Button Mash added. Drake grinned.
"All in a day's work" he said. As the 3 continued to celebrate, another watched from above. She was standing next to D-Pad Mash, Button Mash's brother.
"A flawless victory, that I haven't seen in a long time" the mare said.
"He's only going to get into Slifer" D-Pad replied.
"Why?" the mare asked.
"Because he said 'screw the rules'" D-Pad answered.
