What could Lyra possibly be up to today? Could she be causing mischief in Ponyville? Or sitting in that awkward position she always sit in? Nope, she was simply enjoying a beautiful day in Ponyville. The birds were chirping happily in their nests. Celestia's sun was shining high in the bright blue sky. It was a perfect day... Well, almost a perfect day.

You see, Lyra was in a bit of trouble... She was incredibly hungry. The poor mare just wanted a bite to eat, but old, stubborn Bon-Bon wouldn't prepare a meal for her. Which brings to the heart of Ponyville, where Lyra was trotting around. "What's a mare gotta do to get something to eat around here?" Lyra grumbled.

Her stomach rumbled and bubbled as she trotted to Sugarcube Corner. Hopefully, she could fill up on a snack before going home to Bon-Bon. She had read one of Twilight Sparkle's books about wildlife plants. She couldn't be so desperate to eat that she would have to resort to plants, would she?

Lyra thought about eating a plant, but couldn't remember every single plant the book had talked about. The only thing she could remember was that blue dotted mushroom. It had looked tasty in the book, but she hadn't come across one since she read about it.

Twilight knew a lot about plants, surprisingly. She told Lyra an old myth that whoever ate the mushroom would transform into an unknown being. But that was just a myth... Wasn't it? Lyra could trust Twilight with anything.

That didn't matter right now. The only thing Lyra could really think about was the delicious cupcake she was about to eat.

Sugarcube Corner was only a few steps away. As she approached the door, she could see a sign on the door. The lights inside were off, and nopony was inside the building. Lyra noticed a sign right in front of her.

Sorry, we're closed. We'll be back soon!

"What?! Sugarcube Corner is never closed!" Lyra snarled. How could this be?! Not only did Bon-Bon refuse her, Sugarcube Corner was, too! A building refused Lyra! Well, let's not get that dramatic, Lyra.

Man, what a day this is for Lyra... She could only wish that Sugarcube Corner would open. However, today it was closed. Mr. and Mrs. Cake were with Pinkie Pie to make a large cake delivery.

Lyra's stomach growled ferociously. She had to find something to eat, and quick. She decided the best place to go would be back to her and Bon-Bon's house. Lyra began trotting to the house, her stomach not letting up on the growling.

"Stupid Sugarcube Corner... What could be so important that they had to close it? Ponies are starving out here! I mean, why in the heck would-" Lyra paused. She stopped dead in her tracks. Something caught her eye. Not a bug, or an animal, but something on the ground.

She looked curiously to the left...

There it was, growing right beside a beautiful oak tree. A blue spotted mushroom with a white body... She couldn't believe it. After never seeing it before, she finally got a good look at it. It was weird seeing one in reality, and not on paper. It even looked like the picture, as far as she could remember.

Lyra was hungry, and remembered that book she read... The mushroom was safe, and not deadly. Desperate measures call for desperate things... Was that how that saying went? Lyra didn't know. She trotted over to the mushroom, eyeing it carefully. It had blue spots, just like the picture.

It had no distinct smell. In fact, it had no scent at all. The mushroom was just like any other mushroom, only not deadly and it had blue dots. So it wasn't really like any other mushroom...

Lyra though hard about it. She was starving, and a plump mushroom was right in front of her.

"Oh what the heck..."

Using a hoof, Lyra scooped up the mushroom. She took a quick glance at it, just to make sure. She slowly brought her hoof up to her mouth... and suddenly pulled her hoof back. Just one more look at it, to make sure it was the right one. Once she assured herself that it was the correct mushroom, she plopped it into her mouth, chewing with her cheeks puffed out like a marshmellow.

Lyra made a funny face as she chewed it. It tasted terrible. But she was hungry, and didn't feel like wasting a perfectly good mushroom. It was hard and rubbery, with the texture of a rubber ball. After a few moments of chewing, she swallowed it whole. She looked disgusted afterwards. It left a terrible aftertaste. She would make sure to never ever eat a mushroom again.

But hey, at least she wasn't hungry anymore. She turned around and noticed a pony looking strangely at her.

"What? Never seen a mare eat a mushroom before?" She asked.

The pony just kept trotting, not looking back. What a weird mare, she thought.

Lyra began trotting towards her house, where Bon-Bon was staying. The aftertaste from the icky mushroom was still present in her mouth. She tried spitting a few times, but that didn't work. Now she needed a drink of water to get rid of the taste. Looks like eating a mushroom isn't as rewarding as she thought it would be.

As Lyra was trotting, something didn't feel quite right. Her hind left leg was tingling just the slightest. It wasn't much, but it was enough to feel. She stopped trotting, the tingling in her leg starting to get annoying. That mushroom was safe wasn't it? Lyra didn't know it, but the mushroom she ate wasn't the right one. The one she saw in the book was yellow with blue spots. She had digested a white mushroom with blue spots. Maybe she should have thought harder...

The tingling was becoming unbearable and too intense. She tried to take a step, but couldn't.

"A-Ah, what the hay?!"

And then...

*whop!*

Lyra's left hind leg was now bigger than before. It was a light tan color and had five pointy things at the base. Lyra felt her leg change drastically. She looked behind her to take a look at is.

"AH!!" Lyra screamed.

*whop!*

Now her other leg had wound up looking like her left one! Lyra looked like she was doing a push up, her front hooves being shorter than her back... hooves? What were these things called?

"What's happening to me?!" She screeched. Right now, Lyra needed help. Bad. Who else to go to but Twilight Sparkle? She knows everything, as far as Lyra knows.

Now, she was trotting to Twilight's house... Well, trying to trot.

Lyra tried balancing herself on her new back hooves. She was quite tall on her back legs. Taller than she normally would be. Putting one foot in front of the other, Lyra wobbled as she began walking slowly, getting used to her new form. She walked faster and faster, getting a feel for this new style of trotting.

After what seemed like forever, she reached her destination, Twilight's House. Lyra leaned down, and knocked on the door, waiting for somepony, or anypony to answer.

"Spike, can you answer the door, please?" Twilight asked Spike. She was busy reading a book about ancient spells.

"Yes, Twilight." Spike replied, walking to the door, and reaching up to the door handle. He turned it, and opened the door, his eyes falling to the long legs in front of him.

"Hello? Please, I need Twilight right now!" Lyra said, worried.

Spike had never seen anything like this. He decided to just play it cool, and let Twilight handle this. After all, she was the best at helping with problems...

"Twilight, it's for you." Spike called to her, turning around and walking to Twilight, who was facing away from the door.

Using her magic, Twilight set the book down on the shelf next to her. "I'll be right there." She replied, stretching her legs and turning around. Twilight saw those long, long legs. What were they? She had never encountered something like this. However, she could see Lyra's green-ish coat color.

"Lyra? Is that you?" Twilight asked, trotting to the door.

"Yes, I need help!" Lyra replied.

"Well... I can see the problem, no doubt about that." Twi chuckled.

"This isn't funny. I ate some weird mushroom and now I have... These!" Lyra looked down at her weird, new hooves.

"Come inside, and i'll take a closer look." Twilight stepped back to let her in. Lyra bent down, and walked inside the house, standing back up.

"So you say you ate a mushroom prior to getting these... Things?" Twilight asked.

"Yeah, I was hungry, and I remember you giving me that book about what plants to eat and stuff like that." Lyra said.

"Hmmm... Let me look at a few books, and I can give you a diagnosis." Twilight trotted over to her enormous bookshelf. Using her magic, she took out a few books, one by one. "No... No... No... No... Ah, this one looks promising." She opened the book, and took a look inside. "What color was this supposed mushroom?" She asked.

"Um... White... With blue spots." Lyra replied.

"White with blue spots..." Twilight said to herself. She flipped through the pages of the book, her eyes falling on each sentence, looking for information about the mushroom.

"Here we go. That mushroom you ate is called a Humashroom. The books says that it's only known effect is that it turns the one who digests it into an unknown creature." Twilight said. "The effect only lasts for a few hours, though." She added.

"So, what kind of-"

*whop!*

Lyra's left front hoof extended without warning. It too had five weird pointy things on the end. But they were much longer than the ones on her hind legs. Upon moving her hoof, she noticed that she could move each individual pointy thing.

"What the heck?! Now my front hooves?!" Lyra said, getting extremely worried. "Does it say anything else about that stupid mushroom?!" She asked.

"Well... All it says it that the effect wears off in a few hours, like I said. Although, the 'creature' your turning into is quite odd." Twilight intrigued.

"What kind of creature am I, though?" Lyra asked.

"I don't know yet. Nopony knows about this kind of creature, really." Twilight replied.

*whop!*

Now, all of Lyra's hooves were longer, and had those weird pointy things. As with her left arm, she could move the pointy things individually.

"So is that all? Just these weird hooves?..." Lyra said. "Or is there more?" She added.
