A Day in the Snow

I wish I could enjoy the weather like everypony else is, but NOOOOO, I have somewhere to be. Everypony around me gets to have fun in the snow.
“But Doctor, it’s not even Hearths Warming yet,” a purplish-grey unicorn filly says off to my side as she receives a small box from a brown earth pony stallion.
“Dinky,” ‘Doctor’ replies, “why does it have to be a special day for me to give a gift to a friend or be nice to my fellow pony?”
A rainbow blur flies past ‘Doctor’ and Dinky, followed closely by an orangish-blonde blur that appears to be running, both continuing up the path. The rainbow blur flies beneath a tree branch that is sagging heavily with snow, the blonde blur close behind. The flier appears to have kicked the branch with a hindleg, as the blonde blur is now covered in a mountain of snow. The rainbow blur turns around, obviously assuming what it did worked, and begins to laugh.
“Hehe. Gotcha, AJ,” the rainbow-maned pegasus mare laughs as she hovers above the mound. Suddenly, the mound comes to life and AJ wraps it’s hooves around the pegasus, dragging her to the snow-covered ground.
“An’ now Ah got you, Rainbow,” AJ laughs. Her and Rainbow wrestle on the ground for a moment, before Rainbow slips free and begins to fly away. AJ throws a snowball and charges after the pegasus, both mares laughing the whole time. She easily bounds over a group of fillies that were in her path.
“Why’dja stop, Scoots?” the yellow earth pony asks as she extract herself from the pile and helps pull the brownish-orange earth pony to it’s hooves.
“Yeah, did ya think you were gonna get a ‘stop-on-a-dime’ cutie-mark, or somethin’?” the brownish filly asks as she blows her short, dark pink mane to the side of her face. Her voice reminds me of mobster movies.
“No!” Scoots shouts as she flaps her wings. She lifts her cape and checks to make sure before turning back to her friends. “I was gonna tell Sweetie she should just take off some of them scarves. It’s just slowing her down.”
“But Rarity said I need to wear them so I don’t get sick and she will be cross with me if I take them off,” Sweetie squeeks, having caught up due to the others impromptu gymnastics.
“Come on, Sweetie,” mobster-filly says, approaching the mound. “I don’t think she wil-”
“Hold on, Babs,” the yellow filly says as she also walks up to Sweetie Belle. “I don’ think she would mind if you took one off to give to a friend because she was cold, do you?”
“Me either,” Scoots says as she approaches. “I think she would be more upset if one of us got sick because we didn’t have a enough keeping us warm than if you shared one of yours with us. She is the Element of Generosity, right?”
“Thanks girls,” Sweetie squeeks happily as she unwinds three of her scarves and passes them to her friends.
“It’s what friends are for.” Babs- actually, I’mma keep calling her ‘mobster-filly’. Mobster-filly wraps her scarf around her neck and quickly turns around. “Let’s go find Pip and the others and see if they wanna have a snowball fight.”
The others quickly agree and all four shout “CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS SNOWBALL FIGHTERS!” before turning and continuing their path.
As I pass the fillies, a light yellow pegasus turns to her white unicorn companion and says softly, “How sweet of them. They are always helping eachother out. Oh, I hope you aren’t going to be mad at Sweetie for taking off her scarves.”
The white unicorn, who I am going to assume is the ‘Rarity’ Sweetie was talking about, turns her head away as a blush lines her cheeks. “No. I guess I did make her over-dress, so it would be wrong of me. I am glad her friends were willing to help her out, though. It warms my heart t- AH!” She was cut off by a snowball to the face. BLAM!! Ha! That was great. Priceless.
The snow suddenly melts off her face, revealing a very angry pony. On the other side of the path, Rainbow and AJ both stand unmoving, eyes wide. AJ takes off running as she screams, “IT WAS RAINBOW DASH!!”
Rainbow Dash gives a sheepish smile before turning around and flying away from the unicorn. “AJ, you rat!”
Rarity charges after them with a primal scream, leaving the yellow pegasus by herself.
“Oh my,” she says as she turns around. “Oh, hello Nurse Redheart. Beautiful day.”
“Yes it is, Fluttershy,” Nurse Redheart says. “Glad I was able to get the day off. Oh, I was wanting to ask you a few questions about Dipper. If you have the time, of course.”
“Oh, yes! How is he? I hope he is doing good as a therapeutic dog.”
I continued on as they talked. Don’t know why, but I hope Dipper is doing well. Hu- WOAH! Almost smacked right into that pink pony’s hot cocoa stand. That would not have been good. “Hey! Watch it, you!” I hear her scream as I continue down the path.
I come to a halt next to a group of ponies sitting on a blanket. The adults all seem to be in pairs: a white unicorn mare with a two-toned blue mane was sitting with a grey earth pony mare with a black mane, a blue unicorn mare with a red mane was sitting next to a copper earth pony stallion with a dark red mane, and a white unicorn mare with a cherry blossom pink mane was with a white unicorn stallion with a blue mane. He was also wearing a tux. And a monocle. Too bad he doesn’t have a fez. Fezzes are cool.
In front of the pair of mares were two fillies. One, a grey earth pony with a silver mane, seems to be early double digits, while the other, a green unicorn with a purple mane, seems about two. ‘Course, I’m not too good with guessing ages, so… eh.
“Hey, Stormy,” the blue-maned unicorn mare says as her horn lights up with blue magic. The unicorn filly looks up at the older mare as snow suddenly falls all around her. She flails her hooves around at the snow and laughs. After the snow stops, she looks down, then around herself as though she lost something. The older unicorn’s horn is still lit up with magic and she seems to be trying to hold back a smile.
“Vinyl, stop being mean to you sister. Give her the toy back,” the grey mare next to her says, giving Vinyl a nudge on the shoulder.
“You accuse me of being mean to my little sister, Octavia Philharmonica!? You, the mare who just smoked her little sister in the face with a tightly packed snowball, dares accuse me of such atrocities? I am accosted!”
Octavia blushes as she looks away. “I didn’t mean to. I was aiming at you. I just… missed.”
“Suuuuuuure,” Vinyl says as she dramatically nods her head and gives Stormy her toy back, much to the filly’s delight. “Keep telling yourself that. Whatever helps you sleep at night. It’s not like you were trying to tell her to keep her mouth shut about the other night.”
“That was a fluke.”
“Yeah,” the older filly, who I’ll assumie is Octavia’s sister, says with a smirk. “A fluke. Well, six flukes straight with another seven mixed around. Thirteen flukes out of sixteen.”
“Silence, Silver. It was a fluke. I was… tired.”
“Yeah, Silver. Give her a break.” Octavia gives Vinyl an appreciative smile. “It was noon and she had a very uneventful day the day before and the four-or-so hours she had been up were also very relaxing. ANYPONY would be tired from all that.”
Everypony but Octavia laughed, even Stormy joined in. Peer-pressure and all that. Horrible thing, that. Some ponies just HAVE to fit in. Hope that urge doesn’t cause her to do horrible things as she gets older.
Octavia shoots Vinyl a glare that causes the unicorn to stop laughing. “I think she is going to kill me. STORMAGEDDON, ATTACK!!!” She lifts the unicorn filly with her magic and floats her to the angered earth pony as she yells. The filly latches onto Octavia’s neck and starts to chew, causing everypony to laugh.
“Fluer, Fancy, get Vinyl!” Octavia shouts as Vinyl takes off, laughing.
The pair of unicorns quickly get to their hooves to chase the fleeing unicorn, but are stopped by the other pair of ponies. Due to how they were sitting, Fluer was standing across from the earth pony and Fancy was across from the unicorn. All were in fighting stances, eyes locked in a battle of wills.
Fluer stands up from her pose and says, “Might we please pass, mon bon monsieur?” while offering a soft smile.
“But of course, my good lady,” the earth pony says as he steps aside. His unicorn companion turns to him and smacks him upside the head.
“COPPER! They were going to chase after our daughter and you let them by just because she asks you politely?!”
“Well, Ruby, I have manners. Unlike a certain red-maned unicorn I happen to know.” She slaps him again. Does he like getting slapped or something?
“Smooth, Dad.” Vinyl had walked back to the rest of the group when she noticed she wasn’t getting chased.
“I got her, Tavi!” Silver Moon shouts as she jumps atop Vinyl’s back. The grey earth pony quickly jumps up with Stormy on her head an-
And we’re off! Odd timing. Huh. Whatever. Now, where could he be?
“Glad you could make it, Crackle!” I hear a voice shout from ahead. I see a large… something land by where the voice seemed to be.
“Cracklecrackle!”
I slowed down as I neared Crackle and the Voice. Crackle is a fairly large dragon with gems encrusted in it’s scales. The Voice is a small, purple and green dragon.
“Yep. This is the famous Sweet Apple Acres,” the smaller dragon was saying as they walked. “My good friend Applejack and her family own the place. It was nice of them to let all these ponies come by. Of course, it was originally just gonna be her friends, but they all kept asking if they could bring other friends, so AJ ended up saying we could invite whoever we want as long as they are willing to help clean up any mess they make.”
They continued to talk, but I rounded a corner and stopped listening. Stupid corner. Ooh, he’s close. I can feel it.
“Oh, come ON, Trixie. It’s really not that bad. Trust me.”
“Oh, so you are an expert on the subject now, Twilight Sparkle? Yesterday, you didn’t know diddly-squat.”
Ahead of me walked a purple unicorn and a blue unicorn, the latter of which had a cape and wizard hat that had stars on them. I wonder how SPACEY they feel! Ha! Get it? Cuz, the. Stars… yeah.
“Well,” Twilight says as she looks away, “I read up on it a bit last night.”
“Of co- OW!” Both mares had walked face first into the pink pony’s hot cocoa stand. It was hysterical. Just WHAP! HA!
“Hi Twilight. Hi Trixie. You girls want some cocoa?” The pink pony smiles down at the dazed unicorns.
“Pinkie, I thought your stand was farther back?”
“So, why is it here now?” Trixie said after she stood up.
“It’s not.” More staring. This ‘Pinkie’ is starting to creep me out. What, with all the staring and smiling.
“But, it’s right in front of us.” Twilight was seeming to get confused. I feel ya, sister.
“Oh, this is a different one. I have a few of them set up with thermoses of hot chocolate around the trails. I am going around checking to make sure they are full enough.”
“Oh, that’s a great idea, Pinkie! But, how do you get around to them so fast?” Twilight seemed to freeze for a moment. “You didn’t get into the cloning pool again, did you?”
“Ach, Twilight. Hmph. Ach. I. ACH! Why would you accuse me of such a thing? I am hurt.” The pink pony seemed to get sad at that. Poor pink pony placed in a phase of perpetual physcological pandemonium by her purple pony pal presuming she purposefully broke her Pinkie Promise, prancing into the paranormal pool to produce plenty pink ponies to play with pony pals and provide pleasant hot chocolate to pacify pony thirst and protect playing ponies from piercing polar puffs. ALLITERATION!
“Pinkie, I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant if you have them all around Sweet Apple Acres, and you are the ONLY one checking the thermoses, how are you making time for friends?”
“Oh, that’s easy. I see plenty of friends while I go between stands,” Pinkie says nonchalantly as she pours two cups of steaming hot cocoa. “I say hi and talk or play for a few before continuing on my quest to keep ponies from getting cold and not having a warm, chocolatey beverage to help keep them comfortable.” As she finished, she thrust her chest forward and looked to the sky. These ponies are awesome. I should come back more often.
“How thoughtful of you.” With that, Trixie picks up her cup of cocoa and begins to walk away.
“Ah, ah, ah,” Pinkie says as she bars the unicorn’s path.
“What? Was Trixie suppose to pay?”
“Uh-uh.” Pinkie pointed above Twilight and Trixie. As I pass them, I catch a glance of some plant hanging above them and a blush forming on both unicorns faces. The pink pony looks at me with a scowl and mouths, “I’m watching you, Bub.” Creep.
I knew he was close. There he is, hiding. They always hide. Don’t they know that won’t save them? Eh, makes my job funner.
You people who are reading my after-action report are probably all “Who is this? What is he doing? Why should I even care?”. Why are you even reading this if you can’t answer all those questions already? Oh, wait. Yep. Nobody’s reading this. THIS doesn’t even exist. THIS is just thoughts in my head. I don’t even have a head. I’m a snowball for Luna’s sake. Enchanted to help find my target and being controlled with magic. How am I even able to think with no brain? Or see with no eyes? Or hear with no nose? Hehe. No nose. Kinda like no-nos… I forgot. I’m the only one here. Oh well. I’m about to die anyways… can I die if I was never a living being? Even if I were alive, I am not I, I am we. Much like a Man-o’-War. If I were a living thing, I would be a colony of snowflakes. So, I wouldn’t be one, I would be many. I would be LEGION. But then would each flake have it’s own thoughts, or would there be a master controller? MY LIFE DOESN’T MAKE SENSE ANYMORE!

“AUUUUNTIIIIIEEEEE!!!”
“Yes, Prince Blueblood?” Celestia said, materializing next to the whining prince with a flash, a motherly smile on her face.
“Someone hit me with a snowball! I want to know who and I want them to get in trouble.”
Celestia sighed as the smile faded from her face. “Blueblood. I wanted you to come out here because you rarely go around other ponies. I wanted you to be able to experience life outside the walls of the castle with ponies who won’t treat you differently because of your status. And you said you wanted it, too.”
“Well, yes, but-”
“But, but, but. Do you like butts, dear nephew?”
“Luna, stop,” Celestia said. The younger princess stepped out of the shadows created by the barren apple trees.
“Butt, butt, butt,” Luna said, then blew a raspberry at her older sister.
“I-” Celestia began, but was cut off by Pinkie Pie’s voice shouting through a mega-phone.
“So, I have decided that we need to have a HUGE snowball fight. Well, I didn’t. The CMC did. But I thought it was a great idea so I decided to make sure their dream became a reality. Anypony interested come up to the Apple’s house. We will begin in five minutes. I repeat. Apple’s house. Five minutes. Pinkie out!”
“I am SO game for that. Howsabout you, Sis? And you, Butt-boy.” Celestia scowled at Luna, but the Princess of the Night either didn’t notice or didn’t care. Celestia figured the latter.
“Well, I will. How-” Before she could ask Blueblood if he wanted to join, she saw him throw a snowball at Luna, much to both alicorn’s surprise.
“I will see you there in five minutes, Auntie Luna.” With that, the blonde maned prince walked off in a huff.
“I may not approve of the method, but the result is fairly satisfying.” Celestia turned to her younger sister. “Thank you.”
“You’re the one who threw the snowball at him in the first place, yet you complain about my methods, however unintentional they were?
“Semantics.” With that, Celestia teleported to the house, while Luna opted to fly.
More ponies, and other races, than either princess had thought was there were at the house, waiting for the fight to begin. Celestia saw the minotaur Iron Will, Crackle the dragon, a manticore, who was cuddling up against Fluttershy, and Gilda the griffon.
I see her and Rainbow Dash must have made up. That is good. Celestia remembered the letter about Gilda. She must have really changed if everypony is accepting her again.
“So,” Pinkie began, standing on the steps of the porch, “I hope you are all ready to have a great time.” The yard exploded with noise. “Great. We just want good, clean fun.” At that, she glanced a Gilda. “Oh, and if you haven’t noticed, we have three very esteemed guests here with us. Princess Luna, Princess, Celestia, and Prince Blueblood. Well, and Discord,” --the draconequis was talking to a blue earth pony with a screw for a cutie mark-- “but I don’t know if he would count as ‘esteemed’. Huh. But no Prince Shining Armor or Princess Cadence? Oh we-”
“Not so fast!” A flash of pink stunned everyone in attendance. When they could see again, Shining Armor and Cadence stood in front of Pinkie. “We’re here.”
“You were waiting for me to say that, weren’t you?” Pinkie narrowed her eyes at Cadence.
“Maybe,” Cadence said, not looking away from the party pony.
“Shiny! You made it!” Twilight came running out of the crowd to embrace her older brother.
“Well, I couldn’t skip out on an invitation from my little sister, could I?”
“Nope,” Big Macintosh said from the side.
“If I could finish?” Pinkie said. When the ponies settled back down, she took a breath and began talking again. “So, we have with us three princesses, two princes, and the Avatar of Chaos. But not on the battlefield. On the field, we are all equals in status. We are all WARRIORS!” At this, the yard erupted again. When focus was on Pinkie again, she had a black stripe under each eye.
“Alright. Get ready!”
“Hey, Blueblood,” Luna shouted before the chaos could begin. When he looked at her, she smiled. “Celestia was the one who threw the snowball at you.”
Blueblood’s face dropped, then shifted to scowl, then a smile. He scooped up snow with his magic-
“GO!”
-and threw it at Celestia.
“Snitch.” Using her magic to wipe the snow from her face, Celestia smiled back at Blueblood. It caused his blood to run cold. A massive wave of snow rose up behind the Solar Princess, casting a shadow over the prince, who, along with all other ponies in the area, ran.
Luna laughed as she watched Celestia chase ponies around with her wave of snow, only for it to be turned to a wave of water, which Discord proceeded to surf upon, before being blasted by the Wonderbolts. She saw Blueblood being pelted with snowballs from Rarity and the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Deciding to finally join in, she prepared to take to the sky-
-but was hit in the back of the head with a snowball. Turning around, she saw Vinyl Scratch standing next to her sister, Stormy Breeze, trying to look innocent. When Vinyl noticed Luna looking at her, she acted surprised that she would think it was her. Looking around for someone to blame, Vinyl began pointing at the filly beside her. Luna looked at her incredulously.
“Run, Stormy! Luna’s gonna get us!” With that, she scooped the filly up in her magic and began running, but was stopped when Luna teleported in front of her. Thinking quickly, Vinyl floated the filly to Luna and shouted “STORMAGEDDON, ATTACK!!”
“Ah, she’s gumming me! It feels so weird!”
