Naming

~Three days later~

“Where the hay is that pony” Applejack said, standing in the entrance of ponyville with the other elements, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity and Rainbow Dash.

“Oh, I hope they’re alright” Fluttershy said, worried about Twilight and Spike.

“Don’t worry, Fluttershy. Twilight’s strong. She’ll be able to handle this task” Rarity tries to cheer her friend up.

“Besides, she’s a princess. What task can’t she complete” Rainbow bragged about Twilight, to which the others agreed.

“I wonder what it was that Celestia tasked her to do. Was it something about a rock, leaf, or chocolate cake?” Pinkie pie smiled in her usual cheerful, hyperactive attitude.

“So random…” Rainbow Dash facehooved.

“Wasn’t it somethin’ ‘bout a flower?” Applejack thought.

They all shrugged at the thought, not remembering what it was about.

“Look!” Pinkie shouted and pointed while hopping on Rainbow Dash.

They all look straight to see a small shadow dash at them, then the form of Spike comes running up to them, holding a cylinder container.

“It’s Spike!” Pinkie shouted.

“But what’s he carrying?” Rainbow asked and knocks Pinkie off her “Get off!”

Spike comes up and stops in front of the five mares, panting up a storm whiling carrying the container.

“Spikey! You’re all right” Rarity squeed.

Spike takes deep breaths before saying, “Yeah, I’m fine. You won’t believe what we found” he puts the container down gently.

“What’s in the container, sugarcube?”

Spike looks at the containers, “The lunar flower. Was a pain to find, but that’s the least of it. You will not believe what Twilight and I found”

The five elements have questioned looks, wondering what he’s talking about.

“Ok, here’s how it went” he tells them the beginning of the story, then…

“No way” Spikes jaw dropped when he and Twilight saw bones of a 30 foot monster lying on the rubble Twilight blasted with her magic.

Its skull seemed to measure 4 feet in length. U-shaped jaws. The forelegs hung over the boulder, and at the end of them were hoof-like. But the rest of the body was hidden away under the rubble.

“This is incredible” Twilight couldn’t believe what she’s seeing. Judging by the bone features… “These… these are the bones of the creature in that painting!”

“What!” Spike shouted in shock. His shout echoing across the cave.

“Yes, we found the monster that attacked Equestria”

“Whoa, whoa, time out, Spike. What monster? I’ve never heard of whatever you’re describing. A four legged creature attacking old age Ponyville. Where was Celestia through all this?” Rainbow Dash asked Spike and interrupting him.

“I don’t know, Rainbow Dash. The paintings were destroyed when the creature arrived.” Spike explained.

“Was it like some king of dragon?” Applejack asked.

“It didn’t seem like a dragon at all, but…”

“this is… this is that monster?” Spike backs away a bit.

“Yes Spike, this is the bones of that creature that was in the paintings”

Spike calms down and walks back to her side. “Wow, it’s enormous”

“And probably the last of its kind, or was”

“Thoughts on any names, Twilight?” he looks at her.

“Say what?” She gives Spike a surprised look.

“You discovered it. You should name it” Spike suggested.

“Good point, Spike.” Twilight smiles, and then thinks.

Twilight looks at the skeleton, examining its features around its head. Age has gotten to these bones, so it’s too delicate by touch, but by magic it’s on a different level. Getting this thing out of the cave is one thing, but coming up with a name is another. The painting displayed a creature with reptile features, yet, it somehow resembles a pony. What does it mean? How was this creature made? So many questions in her head, Twilight shut her eyes and shake her head. She wanted to know more about this creature, but bones are just one piece of the puzzle. She sits down and thinks of ways to find more pieces to this unsolved puzzle.

Spike looks at Twilight, confused. Twilight had that deep thought look on her face. Spike knew this look all too well. He come up to her and tries to snap her out of it, much to his success. Twilight snaps back into reality and looks at Spike, smiling sheepishly.

“Sorry”

“You had me worried there, Twilight”

“I know, Spike. It won’t happen again, I promise”

“Alright. So, got any names for our giant skeleton friend, Twilight?”

“I do, actually. Its body is like a pony, and it has reptile features, so, Spike I’d like to officially call this creature…”

“Ponysaurus Rex!” each element gave him shocked expression.

“It was quite a discovery. Twilight used her magic to do all sorts things, like dig this, dig that. She had everything under control while I went to go find that flower. When I got back she got the upper jaw safely removed, and what she found was unbelievable”

“Ooo, what was it? Was it diamonds in the skull? Was it old cupcakes in old Ponyville? Or was it just a rock that looks like a face?” Pinkie chattered until Rainbow Dash snapped her out of it by bonking her on the head.

Spike laughed at this before going back to the story, “Anyway, what she found was…”

“Spike, that’s enough!” a voice shouted, but not in an angry tone. It was more of a gentle tone, like ‘you can stop now’.

The elements look behind Spike and straight ahead to see a shadow in the form Twilight approach them, with her horn glow. Spike turns around and smiles at Twilight as she stops beside him.

“I’ll tell them the rest. You need to catch your breath.”

“Alright, Twilight” Spike backs away and sits down, with the flower in the capsule.

Twilight’s friends have sparks in their curiosity. They were very eager to know what was going on, and what she knows about this Ponysaurus Rex.

Twilight looks at her curious friends and explains, “Well, to sum it up, while Spike went to go find Luna’s present, I managed to extract the upper jaw of the creature from it rumble left by the cave. When I placed the skull down, I noticed something right on the edge of the eye. I took a closer look, and then to my surprise, it was blood”

“Blood!” all of them shouted.

“Yes. Getting it was a hassle. I’m a lot stronger as an Alicorn, but lifting that skull was quite a workout” Twilight joked and giggles.

“Twilight darling, where is that skull?” Rarity asked.

“Oh yeah, I put it on a roller. It should be coming in no time”, and she was right, the roller with the skull in it arrives, being pulled by her magic. It stopped when it rolled beside Twilight on the dirt path.

Rarity widens her eyes and jaw dropped at the sight of the monstrous skull. The other element copied her expression; even Pinkie was blasted into silence.

Twilight chuckled, “That’s right. Friends, meet Ponysaurus Rex. The first ever Ponysaur to be found”

Fluttershy bellowed a soft shriek before rushing to the skull to take a better look. Excitement now rushed through her mind. Seeing the skull of an animal she’s never heard of baffled her a lot.

Applejack whistled, “That’s quite a catch there, Twilight. I bet all them lab ponies are goin’ to be jealous of y’ur find” she complimented Twilight, impressed to see something like this.

“So what now?” Rainbow asked.

“You should know me by now, Rainbow Dash”

“Oh right. Egghead stuff”, she facehooved.

“Study it, yes.”

“I think I can see the blood stain” Spike announced, pointing at the spot on the eye socket.

The five ponies walk around the skull, and pinpoint their eyes on the dry blood on the skull. They all let out a ‘whoa’, amazed that Twilight was being true to her story.

“Twilight, what exactly are you going to do with that blood?” Rarity asked.

“Well, I hope to bring the creature back”
