//-------------------------------------------------------// Ponysaur -by Dashzilla93- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Research //-------------------------------------------------------// Naming ~Three days later~ “Where the hay is that pony” Applejack said, standing in the entrance of ponyville with the other elements, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity and Rainbow Dash. “Oh, I hope they’re alright” Fluttershy said, worried about Twilight and Spike. “Don’t worry, Fluttershy. Twilight’s strong. She’ll be able to handle this task” Rarity tries to cheer her friend up. “Besides, she’s a princess. What task can’t she complete” Rainbow bragged about Twilight, to which the others agreed. “I wonder what it was that Celestia tasked her to do. Was it something about a rock, leaf, or chocolate cake?” Pinkie pie smiled in her usual cheerful, hyperactive attitude. “So random…” Rainbow Dash facehooved. “Wasn’t it somethin’ ‘bout a flower?” Applejack thought. They all shrugged at the thought, not remembering what it was about. “Look!” Pinkie shouted and pointed while hopping on Rainbow Dash. They all look straight to see a small shadow dash at them, then the form of Spike comes running up to them, holding a cylinder container. “It’s Spike!” Pinkie shouted. “But what’s he carrying?” Rainbow asked and knocks Pinkie off her “Get off!” Spike comes up and stops in front of the five mares, panting up a storm whiling carrying the container. “Spikey! You’re all right” Rarity squeed. Spike takes deep breaths before saying, “Yeah, I’m fine. You won’t believe what we found” he puts the container down gently. “What’s in the container, sugarcube?” Spike looks at the containers, “The lunar flower. Was a pain to find, but that’s the least of it. You will not believe what Twilight and I found” The five elements have questioned looks, wondering what he’s talking about. “Ok, here’s how it went” he tells them the beginning of the story, then… ~ “No way” Spikes jaw dropped when he and Twilight saw bones of a 30 foot monster lying on the rubble Twilight blasted with her magic. Its skull seemed to measure 4 feet in length. U-shaped jaws. The forelegs hung over the boulder, and at the end of them were hoof-like. But the rest of the body was hidden away under the rubble. “This is incredible” Twilight couldn’t believe what she’s seeing. Judging by the bone features… “These… these are the bones of the creature in that painting!” “What!” Spike shouted in shock. His shout echoing across the cave. “Yes, we found the monster that attacked Equestria” ~ “Whoa, whoa, time out, Spike. What monster? I’ve never heard of whatever you’re describing. A four legged creature attacking old age Ponyville. Where was Celestia through all this?” Rainbow Dash asked Spike and interrupting him. “I don’t know, Rainbow Dash. The paintings were destroyed when the creature arrived.” Spike explained. “Was it like some king of dragon?” Applejack asked. “It didn’t seem like a dragon at all, but…” ~ “this is… this is that monster?” Spike backs away a bit. “Yes Spike, this is the bones of that creature that was in the paintings” Spike calms down and walks back to her side. “Wow, it’s enormous” “And probably the last of its kind, or was” “Thoughts on any names, Twilight?” he looks at her. “Say what?” She gives Spike a surprised look. “You discovered it. You should name it” Spike suggested. “Good point, Spike.” Twilight smiles, and then thinks. Twilight looks at the skeleton, examining its features around its head. Age has gotten to these bones, so it’s too delicate by touch, but by magic it’s on a different level. Getting this thing out of the cave is one thing, but coming up with a name is another. The painting displayed a creature with reptile features, yet, it somehow resembles a pony. What does it mean? How was this creature made? So many questions in her head, Twilight shut her eyes and shake her head. She wanted to know more about this creature, but bones are just one piece of the puzzle. She sits down and thinks of ways to find more pieces to this unsolved puzzle. Spike looks at Twilight, confused. Twilight had that deep thought look on her face. Spike knew this look all too well. He come up to her and tries to snap her out of it, much to his success. Twilight snaps back into reality and looks at Spike, smiling sheepishly. “Sorry” “You had me worried there, Twilight” “I know, Spike. It won’t happen again, I promise” “Alright. So, got any names for our giant skeleton friend, Twilight?” “I do, actually. Its body is like a pony, and it has reptile features, so, Spike I’d like to officially call this creature…” ~ “Ponysaurus Rex!” each element gave him shocked expression. “It was quite a discovery. Twilight used her magic to do all sorts things, like dig this, dig that. She had everything under control while I went to go find that flower. When I got back she got the upper jaw safely removed, and what she found was unbelievable” “Ooo, what was it? Was it diamonds in the skull? Was it old cupcakes in old Ponyville? Or was it just a rock that looks like a face?” Pinkie chattered until Rainbow Dash snapped her out of it by bonking her on the head. Spike laughed at this before going back to the story, “Anyway, what she found was…” “Spike, that’s enough!” a voice shouted, but not in an angry tone. It was more of a gentle tone, like ‘you can stop now’. The elements look behind Spike and straight ahead to see a shadow in the form Twilight approach them, with her horn glow. Spike turns around and smiles at Twilight as she stops beside him. “I’ll tell them the rest. You need to catch your breath.” “Alright, Twilight” Spike backs away and sits down, with the flower in the capsule. Twilight’s friends have sparks in their curiosity. They were very eager to know what was going on, and what she knows about this Ponysaurus Rex. Twilight looks at her curious friends and explains, “Well, to sum it up, while Spike went to go find Luna’s present, I managed to extract the upper jaw of the creature from it rumble left by the cave. When I placed the skull down, I noticed something right on the edge of the eye. I took a closer look, and then to my surprise, it was blood” “Blood!” all of them shouted. “Yes. Getting it was a hassle. I’m a lot stronger as an Alicorn, but lifting that skull was quite a workout” Twilight joked and giggles. “Twilight darling, where is that skull?” Rarity asked. “Oh yeah, I put it on a roller. It should be coming in no time”, and she was right, the roller with the skull in it arrives, being pulled by her magic. It stopped when it rolled beside Twilight on the dirt path. Rarity widens her eyes and jaw dropped at the sight of the monstrous skull. The other element copied her expression; even Pinkie was blasted into silence. Twilight chuckled, “That’s right. Friends, meet Ponysaurus Rex. The first ever Ponysaur to be found” Fluttershy bellowed a soft shriek before rushing to the skull to take a better look. Excitement now rushed through her mind. Seeing the skull of an animal she’s never heard of baffled her a lot. Applejack whistled, “That’s quite a catch there, Twilight. I bet all them lab ponies are goin’ to be jealous of y’ur find” she complimented Twilight, impressed to see something like this. “So what now?” Rainbow asked. “You should know me by now, Rainbow Dash” “Oh right. Egghead stuff”, she facehooved. “Study it, yes.” “I think I can see the blood stain” Spike announced, pointing at the spot on the eye socket. The five ponies walk around the skull, and pinpoint their eyes on the dry blood on the skull. They all let out a ‘whoa’, amazed that Twilight was being true to her story. “Twilight, what exactly are you going to do with that blood?” Rarity asked. “Well, I hope to bring the creature back” Author's Note Chapter two everyone. That’s why I need to study it more.” “I don’t know, Twilight. Don’t you think you’d be at risk here?” Applejack informed, trying to knock some sense into her. “I understand the risk, Applejack. But I can be careful with this. If I do bring it back, I will train it to be harmless. Besides how hard can it be to train an animal” Twilight shrugged. Everypony looks to Fluttershy, who raised a brow at Twilight words, not liking what the lavender alicorn was thinking. Twilight took note of Fluttershy’s look, and regrets saying what she just said, making an ‘opps’ face. “Ok, you have a point, Fluttershy. If it goes out of hoof, can you help me?” She asked the shy Pegasi. Fluttershy smiles and nods, saying, “Of course, Twilight, I’d be happy to. Also, I’d love to see this new animal come back to this world” “Hold up, time out here,” Rainbow Dash interrupts them, “Fluttershy, I know you’re good with animals, but what if this creature isn’t like the animals you know. This isn’t a cute bunny; it’s a monster much bigger than an elephant” Fluttershy thinks for a moment, “You have a point Rainbow, but it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try. Even though I’ve never met and seen this animal before, that doesn’t mean I still can’t train it to make it harmless” “Um, girls, I haven’t gotten to research it yet. I doubt I’ll be able to bring it back, unless I get started” “Oh right, sorry” Both Shy and RD said. “Shouldn’t we get this skull to the library?” Spike suggested. “Right, times wasted” Twilight uses her magic to pull the roller. “Later girls, I’ll inform you if I’ve made progress” They rolled their eyes and smiled, knowing Twilight won’t ever change. Twilight took a slower pace, “Wow, is it just me or did this skull get heavier” Twilight looks back. “Wee, this is fun” Pinkie Pie squeed, sitting on the skull. “Pinkie, what are you doing? Get off that” Twilight frowned, not really wanting to deal with Pinkies shenanigans. “But I can see my house from here” Pinkie takes a step, causing a crack on the skull, much to Twilight notice. Twilight, in brief paranoia, using her magic to levitate Pinkie off the skull and place her on the ground. “Oof!” “Sorry Pinkie”, she calms down, “But I can’t let you touch this skull. It’s very delicate” “Sorry” Pinkie frowns. “It’s fine”, Twilight uses her magic to pull the roller to her home. Spike follows her, leaving the other elements with questioned looks. “Just what in tarnation is Twilight thinkin’?” Applejack thought. “A Ponysaurus Rex? How come we never learned this in school?” “Maybe it was left out of history for a reason” Rarity said, putting her hoof on her mouth, thinking. “In all honesty, even though I’m not the element of honesty, I kinda want to see this Pony monster thing Twilight wants to bring back. Who knows, maybe this one won’t attack Ponyville. I hope it’ll like parties once Twilight brings it back” Pinkie rambled on, jumping up and down. “I agree with Pinkie. I’d love to learn more about this creature. An animal not cataloged in any books. Ooo, I’m getting excited as well” Fluttershy smiled, on Pinkie pies side. “Well I’m not buying it. Twilight wants to bring a monster back from the dead. We have to stop her” Rainbow objected to this whole thing. Applejack nods to Rainbow Dash, “I agree, Twilight mentioned the first one attackin’ old age Ponyville. I don’t know about ya’ll, but I don’t want that to happen.” “Then why are we talking about it? Let’s stop her” Rainbow Dash flew after Twilight. The other ponies galloped after her, all but Rarity. “I wonder if the princesses know about this creature.” Rarity thought. “It would hurt to ask” She galloped away from the other four to go to Celestias castle. Meanwhile, Twilight and Spike make it to their tree home where Spike opens the door as Twilight walks in with the skull, but is suddenly stopped when the skull got caught halfway through the entrance. Twilight Turns around and frown, “Oh man, how am I… oh, duh!” Twilight lowers her horn and uses her magic to shrink the ponysaur skull so it can fit through. To her success, Twilight smiled and pulls the smaller skull inside. Spike closes the door. Twilight walks around the statue in the middle of the tree, and stops, removing her harness, and turns around, gluing her eyes to the skull. “Wow” she smiles in aww at her find. “A creature long forgotten by time has dried blood still intact. Ooo, I can’t wait to get started. Spike, can you open the door to the lab, please” “Can do, princess” Spike walks up and opens the door. “Thank you, and don’t call me that” Twilight informs the little dragon before putting her lab coat on and walks down the stairs. “Sorry” “It’s fine, don’t worry about it” As she reaches the bottom of the basement, Twilight used her magic to conjure a teleport spell to teleport the skull into the basement, and levitate it over a med-sized lab table, and then gently places it down. “Perfect” she smiled, and looks around, seeing tons of lab equipment, even some used for experiments. “Hmm, ah ha, these will do” she levitates a scoop and hammer and nail. Twilight places the nail on the dry blood and gently hammers it, cracking the blood. With one more tap, Twilight noticed a good chunk of the blood was loose. She used the scoop to place it under the blood as she placed the hammer down and used the nail to break the piece of blood away from its spot. It drops on the scoop. Twilight smiles with success and carefully levitates the blood clot towards another research table with a microscope and a beaker. She places the chuck of blood on the beaker, slides it under the microscope, and adjusts the vision lens. With the lens clearing her vision, Twilight looks through the scope, looking for any strands of DNA through the blood; it didn’t take long, though. Twilight smiled again, she found what she was looking for. “Yes!” she shouted. Strands of DNA are still intact within the dried blood. With it, she can bring the ponysaur back to life. “Everything ok down there?” Spike asked. “Yes. I found DNA still intact, Spike” “That’s great, Twilight. What happens next?” “All I got to do is extract it and… and… what!?!” Twilight’s voice went from excited to worry. “What’s wrong?” Spike asked, worried himself. Twilight’s eyes widen, she found DNA, but there are some strands missing to complete the genetic code. “There are strands missing. I can’t bring the creature to life” Spike widens his eyes until he heard shouting outside; it was their friend. “What in the world?” Spike walks to the door and opens it to find AJ, RD, Pinkie pie and Fluttershy argue over the whole ponysaur resurrection. “I told you two, I’m going to stop her from doing it” Rainbow shouted. “No! Aren’t you at least curious to even see what it will look like?” Pinkie objected. “No, and I’m not wanting to find out either” “I agree with Rainbow. I don’t want a giant reptile pony wreckin’ Ponyville and stompin’, or eatin’, any of our citizens” Applejack enforced, being with Rainbow on this debate. “Well, I just want to see this creature” Fluttershy said in a shy tone. The ponies went on and on, until Spike flings the door open, shouting, “SHUT UP!” the sudden shouts caused the ponies to jump and back off a bit. “There is no debate on whether to stop Twilight or not. Twilight is going through with this, whether you guys like it or not. In fact, this whole argument is a waste of time anyway, she’s already started.” “What! Why didn’t you stop her?” Rainbow dash asked. “Because I support Twilight for what she’s doing; which is something you should be doing” Spike lectured her to improve her friendship. Rainbow widens her eyes before giving Spike a glare, “Listen, I am not supporting this at all. What Twilight is doing is not right at all” she crosses her arms. “Where’s your support, Rainbow Dash” Spike asked in a disappointed tone. “With Ponyville!” she shouts, and then flies off. “What about you three?” Spike asks. “Fluttershy and I are with you, infinity percent” Pinkie Pie grinned, wrapping an arm around Fluttershy. “Y-yes. I’m in, too” “Applejack?” Spike looks at AJ, curious to know her answer. Applejack raises a brow before sighing in defeat. “I support this, but if somethin’ goes wrong, don’t be surprised if Rainbow and I say I told ya so” With that, she turns and walks away, walking back to Sweet Apple Acres. “Um, Spike, can we come in?” Fluttershy asked the baby dragon. “Of course” he opens it all the way, letting the two mares in. Pinkie hops inside, and Fluttershy just walks in while Spike closes the door. “I don’t understand. What’s missing?” Twilight thought. Her friends arrive and saw what she’s been doing. Lab equipment everywhere! “Ooo, flashy” Pinkie said. She hopped around while Fluttershy walked up to Twilight, tilting her head. “Um, Twilight, did you find anything” She asked very shyly. “Yes and no. I found strands of DNA in this dried blood sample, but it’s incomplete. I can’t bring the Ponysaur back without full strands” she looks at Fluttershy with doubt. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Twilight” she frowns, and thought if Rainbow Dash was here, she’d be gloating. “It’s alright, it was a long… wait” a sudden idea come into the alicorns mind. It’s a ponysaur, pony-saur. “That’s it!” Twilight looks through the microscope. She found DNA in the blood, but she never figured out what type of DNA it was. Twilight smiled as she searched high and low to find out what it is. “What’s it?” Fluttershy asked. “If I can look through it more, I can see what DNA I can put in the strands to complete it, and maybe, just maybe, I can bring the creature back to life” Twilight said, happy that the idea came to her so quickly. “Alright if I can…” she looked at one strand to fine a piece a different color: light green. Could it be? Has she found her answer? “Yes! I found it” “What’d you find, what’d you find?” Pinkie asked, the suspense killing her. “Alright from what I can tell, this creature is definitely reptilian, but other pieces of strands indicate it had pony DNA as well.” Twilight looks at her friends, “Which means I need pony DNA to complete the strands and genetic codes. So, I need a bit of blood to do this” Both Hyper and Timid pony look at each other, then at Twilight, breaking a sweat and laughed, hoping Twilight was joking. “Y-you’re kidding, right, Twilight” Pinkies’ heart pounded hard as Twilight uses her magic to levitate a small, empty shot with a thin needle out of a drawer, and floats it right next to her head. “Nope” She smiled manically at her friend. “Needle!” Pinkie shouted. “Oh my look at the time, I think I hear Pound and Pumpkin cake crying. I’d love to help but I gotta go. Bye!” With that, Pinkie took no time and bolted out the tree like grease lightning: she’s terrified of needles. Fluttershy went wide eyed and ran to find a spot to hide in the tree. She bolted out the basement door and vanished without a trace. Twilight laughed at her friends’ reaction. Who knew they were that terrified of needles? “Spike, do me a favor and find Fluttershy, please” Spike obeyed her order and walked away, but stops and turns around to ask, “Why can’t you use your own blood, Twilight?” Twilights ears perked up and leaned her head back, “Are you serious? I’m not using myself as a test subject. It’s my place to research, not do both” Twilight answered him as he shrugged and went to go look for Fluttershy. Fluttershy hid under Twilight bed, too scared to even go outside. True she would jump out the window, and fly off, but she wondered if Twilight casted a forcefield spell like what she used when the Gabby Gums event happened some time ago. Fluttershy shivered in fear, also wondering if Twilight has gone crazy. Maybe this was a bad idea to come. If Twilight has gone crazy, then she’d be more unstable than a hungry Manticore. There’s got to be another way out. The roof, other windows the back door, Fluttershy whimpered, until a purple claw touched the side of her flank, causing her to jump out and wail in terror and dash all across the inside of the tree. Fluttershy dashed back inside the basement, not paying any attention to her surroundings, and crashes flat against the wall, hard. Twilight looks back and smiles, watching Fluttershy plop on her back. “Found her” Spike said, walking down the stairs and going to Fluttershy to check and see if she’s alright; she’s out cold. “Oh man, she’s out like a light” Spike informed Twilight before looking at her. “It’s fine. Out cold or not, I still need blood to complete the strand” She explained. “Do you really need that much blood, Twilight? I mean, this is Fluttershy’s blood you’re taking.” Spike reminded her. Fluttershy was known to faint at everything from the gigantic hydra, to just her own shadow. Glad she’s unconscious to miss this. “I’m aware of it, Spike. Besides, all I need it an ounce of blood. I’m not going to take a pint of blood. I’m not a mad scientist you know” Twilight chuckled at her own joke before walking up to Fluttershy with the empty shot. “Yeah, I guess your right” Spike moves away as Twilight approaches the fainted Pegasus. “Alright, just need to concentrates” Twilight looks at Fluttershy and moves the clean needle close to her skin. Spike watches Twilight move the needle closer, slowly inserting it into Fluttershys’ right arm, piercing through the blood vein and stopping in place. Twilight breaths lightly before pulling the knob on the shot: sucking up 0.5 ounces of blood out of Fluttershy. Twilight stops and slowly pulls the needle out of her friend. Spike runs and comes back with a band-aid. And right as Twilight successful removed the needle, Spike place the band-aid on the spot where Twilight pricked the poor pegasi. No blood escaped from Fluttershys’ wound. Twilight sighed, “Nice work, Spike” she smiled with relief. This was her first time using a shot on another pony: in fact, that was the first time she even used a medical tool like that. She was more relieved that it was a successful blood extraction. One slip and Fluttershy would’ve needed to see a real doctor. “Thanks, Twilight” Spike smiled. “Tend to Fluttershy. Make sure she’s not pale, or anything. Once she wakes up tend to her” Twilight commanded her assistant. She turns and walks back to the microscope to look through the lens. Spike looks at Fluttershy, and gently lifts her up. Surprising though, the yellow pegasi was somewhat light as a feather, making it easy for Spike to carry her and place her on a soft mattress near the basement on the right, sliding a pillow under her head. Carefully, Twilight levitates the needle over the incomplete ponysaur blood. Once the needle is at the right spot, she used her magic to slowly push the knob down a bit. Fluttershy’s blood oozed through the needle and clotted at its exit point, forming a ball before dropping as a single droplet. The blood drop merged with the other blood, disappearing as if it’s already part of its other half. Good thing Fluttershy’s blood type matched the ponysaurs’ blood; otherwise, the cloning would be under siege. Twilight looks through the microscope to find that, miraculously, the DNA strands in Fluttershys’ blood merged with the Ponysaur strands like magnets. With the DNA strands complete, Twilight smiles with glee, “I did it! Yes, it works, it actually worked” she wanted to bounced about like how Pinkie usually does, but she quickly regains her ego and focuses. “Ok, a few more steps to go” she levitated the beaker out from under the microscope, levitates a test tube in front of her, and pours the wet clump of blood in the test tube. She puts away the beaker, laying it on the table, and walks toward a small device on another table, next to some chemical tubes. “Um Twilight, what’s that” Spike asked, never noticing it before. The machine was as big as him, there was a slot on there that seems to hold only test tube, and on the left was a hole equipped with a roller. It must’ve been used to move the test tubes out. Its color is a shade of purple with a few colorful buttons. A screen that’s smaller than the machine can be seen. It’s like looking at an experimental TV. “This is a machine that scans and mixes hard and liquid substance, mixing them into one. Now that the genetic code is complete, this machine will turn this blood into a ponysaur embryo” “An embryo?” Spike tilts his head in confusion. “A baby ponysaur, Spike” Twilight looks at him. Spike still has a confused look on his face, scratching his head. Being a baby dragon, he still has a lot of learning to do, and explaining the birds and the bees would probably wait until he’s older. The thought got to Twilight. “I’ll tell you when you’re older, Spike” Twilight said, looking back at the small machine. “Ok, now for the moment of truth” Twilight raise her hoof and presses a green button on the left side of a small, clear window. The window slides up, revealing a white small tube-like room with a round holder/grip, fit to hold a test tube. Twilight slowly moves the test tube, with the blood inside, and carefully places it on the grip. Once that’s done, Twilight pressed the green button again, having the window slide down and closes. The test tube rests on the grip. Spike watches as Twilight raises her other hoof and, not before thinking about some flaws about this, but shakes it off, presses a magenta colored button next to the green one. Once pressed, the machine starts to shake a bit as two robotic hands slide down from inside the machine, peel open and grab the middle of the test tube. The arms slide up, pulling the test tube into the machine itself. Spike approaches as Twilight and him look at the machine, only to have the screen pop on, revealing a digital version of the test tube. Inside, thin green lights appear from the ceiling on the right side and starts moving, touching the tube and the blood until it reaches the top, then repeats the act again. Outside, Twilight and Spike watch the screen as the machine scans the blood, removing the test tube off screen. There, they saw Fluttershys’ DNA with the ponysaurs’. Even though they are connected, the genetic code wasn’t finish. The scanner informed them that it needed to be fused all the way through. With that, the scan was complete, and then the machine started to spin the test tube inside. As that happened, the alicorn and baby dragon continued to watch as the scanner picked up the genetic codes being modified to match with each other. A few minutes flew by and the machine stopped spinning. The genetic code is complete. Now the machine starts the roller and pushes the test tube out as it appears outside in front of Twilight and Spike. Twilight uses her magic to levitate the test tube in front of her, plug facing up. “It’s complete” Twilight said. “So, what now? And when did it get a bit chilly all of a sudden?” Spike shivered before looking around to find a small freezing container on another table near the side of the stairs. “What’s that?” he asked “That’s a container to hold the embryo” Twilight answer him. “It’s at a cooling temperature of subzero levels, to keep the embryo alive” She levitates the test tube close to the container then opens the lid with her magic and places it inside before closing it back up. “Now for a third step” she announced. “And that is?” Spike raises a brow. Twilight looks at him, “I need a gamete for the third step” she gets a sudden beat of sweat from her forehead: she’s nervous about something. “A what?” Spike said, confused. “Two question: one, what’s a gamete, gamete, or whatever you just said? Two, what’s got you so nervous?” Spike said before noticing Twilight eyeing at Fluttershy. He looks at the same direction then looks back at her with a shocked look, “Twilight, what are you thinking now!?” he worries, thinking poor Fluttershy won’t catch a break. Twilight sighs and looks at the baby dragon, “A gamete is cell only females have, and I was thinking that Fluttershy might’ve produced one already, since she’s at that age now” “Wait, are you thinking abou…” Spike instantly gets the message and looks at Twilight with a realization look. “Oh” “Yes” Twilight nods. “Even as an alicorn, you’re crazy…” Spike admits it to her, pointing a claw at her. Twilight looks at Spike, annoyed, before fake laughing, “Hahaha, just make sure she’s ready” she commanded, and walked away, leaving Spike to goes see Fluttershy, and get her in position. Twilight walks up to her tools and uses her magic to levitate another shot in front of her: this one having a thick needle and larger space. Twilight looks back, “Is she ready, Spike?” she asked as Spike grabbed and held both of Fluttershy’s legs together, then moves them back a little, exposing her underbelly. “Yeah, she’s ready. You will be gentle, right Twilight. I mean, this isn’t an armadillo your about to stab” Twilight walks up to the baby dragon and unconscious pegasi, “I’m fully aware of it, Spike. Fluttershy is more delicate then all of us. If I ended up hurting her, I wouldn’t forgive myself. But I have to do this.” Twilight said, levitating the needle close to Fluttershy, lowering it close to her stomach and shifting its position to where her ovaries are. Twilight takes deep breaths and concentrates, slowly piercing the thick needle into Fluttershys’ skin, slicing through her muscles. Fluttershy squints her eyes before calming down. Spike closes his eyes, but kept a firm grip on Fluttershys’ legs, letting Twilight poke the poor pegasi. When Twilight stuck the needle in her, Spike could’ve sworn he felt Fluttershy twitch her body once she was stabbed. Spike tilts his head, but ignores the thought and held onto fluttershys’ back legs, keeping them still. The needle hits its mark, stopping inside of Fluttershys’ ovaries. Having reached its destination, Twilight slowly pulls the injection knob, sucking out more of her blood, then the egg cell sled itself in the needle and popped out the other side, inside the injection. Twilight noticed and stops putting the knob, “Perfect” she slowly pulls the needle out of Fluttershy, hopefully to not cause a single injury inside her friend. Twilight successfully removes the injection needle, at the cost of blood oozing out of Fluttershy “Oh no!” panicking, Twilight looks around for the first aid kit, then finds it, takes a bandage out, with a cloth, and quickly stops the bleeding in time. She sighs and uses the cloth to wrap around the yellow pegasi’ waist. “You can let go of her now, Spike” Spike carefully releases Fluttershys’ legs as she shifts her positions, laying on her right side. Twilight turns and heads to the microscope, “Glad that’s over with” she said as she levitates the injection close to the microscope. “Won’t Fluttershy be angry when she finds out you did this to her?” Spike asked. “I don’t know, Fluttershy rarely gets mad at anything. If she does, I’ll try to calm her down” Twilight said as she squeezes the egg cell out of the injection, and onto the beaker. “Alright, then” Spike says, walking over to Fluttershy, to cover her in a blanket. Twilight focuses her magic, placing the injection down and levitating a tiny glass pipette towards the egg cell. Through the lens, Twilight slowly pushes the pipette close to the egg cell wall and pokes through it, and then sucking out a tiny portion of the egg cell. She pulls the tiny needle out, placing it down next to the injection. With that out of the way, Twilight pops the lid to the freezing container open and levitates the test tube out, then floats it near the microscope. Twilight unscrews the plug to the test tube, with a ‘pomp’ as it opened. She levitates another tiny glass pipette of the same kind and places it in the test tube, sucking out the embryo. Once inside the pipette, Twilight plugs the test tube, places it in a test tube holder, and levitates the pipette near the microscope. Twilight looks through the lens again, concentrating the pipette to get close and pokes through the egg cell wall again. Once connected, Twilight injects the embryo inside the egg cell, letting it multiply once inside. She smiles successfully and pulls the pipette out. “It’s done!” She said excitedly. Spike looks at Twilight and smiles with her, “Great. What now?” Twilight puts a lid over the beaker, and levitates it over the freezing container, putting it inside and closing the lid. Twilight turns and walks over to Spike saying, “Well, all we need to do is….” Before she had time to finishes her sentence, she collapses to the ground and succumbs to unconsciousness: she was exhausted from doing all that research and extraction. “Twilight, Twilight!” Spike rushed over to Twilight to try and help her, but she was out like a light. Having no other options, Spike grabbed and held Twilight over his shoulders, dragging her to her rooms, leaving Fluttershy behind. Spike places Twilight on her bed, with her lab coat still on, and covers her with her bed sheets, then yawns, getting tired himself. He looks outside the window to see the sun disappear in time for the night to take over. With that, Spike grabs extra bed sheets and pillows and heads down to the basement to check on Fluttershy, who was sleeping soundly. Spike approaches the sleeping Fluttershy and swings the covers over her, covering her from neck to tail. Spike thought for a moment if he should walk up to his bed, or keep Fluttershy company. He thinks for a sec but thought, “Oh screw this!” he hops in bed with Fluttershy and covers himself with the bed covers. He lies on his left side and falls asleep, but a yellow hoof slithers over him and wraps around him. He wakes up to see Fluttershy, still asleep, come up and snuggle him close. Spike widens his eyes a bit, thinking this was very awkward, but seeing that this is Fluttershy, not Rainbow Dash or Applejack, he figured this was ok. He smiled and snuggled close to the soft, timid pegasi; it’s not Rarity, but this is still nice. Next morning came, Spike sleep soundly in the basement next to Fluttershy, or so he thought. He opened his eyes, not feeling Fluttershys’ soft hoof, and get up to see the yellow Pegasus gone. A sudden yelp filled his ears: it sounded like it came from the living room. An angry grunt was heard afterwards, then Twilights’ voice. Spike immediately got up and dashed upstairs. He opens the door to find Twilight trying to calm Fluttershy down. He figured Twilight must’ve told her about what happened, and Fluttershy was not too happy about it. He noticed the bandages around the angry pegasi legs and waist, with a bit of blood as she walked towards Twilight. Twilight leans back, crouched down and backs away slowly, with a frightful look. “Fluttershy, calm down, please. Just give me a chance to explain” Fluttershy hung her head a bit, her eyes burning with anger, teeth gritting, she walked slowly towards Twilight, not because she wanted to scare her, but because of the pain in her lower body. Blood oozed its way out of the bandages and slid down Fluttershys’ right leg, landing and dripping on the floor. “Explain! You said you needed only blood. You didn’t say anything about needing an egg! Did it ever occur to you to ask, Twilight?” The timid pegasi’s anger boiled. If it wasn’t for the bandages and the pain, she would’ve beaten Twilight senseless, princess or not. “Fluttershy, if you continue to move around like this, the bleeding won’t stop” she pleaded her to relax and calm down. “Not until you feel the pain I’m feeling right now!” Fluttershy raises her right arm, getting close to Twilight as she closes her eyes and braces the impacted, but nothing happened. Instead, Twilight slightly opens one eye to find Fluttershy lying on the floor, balling. “Fluttershy?” the lavender alicorn opens both eyes and leans forward to try and comfort her friend, but is rejected with push and a tearful glare. Twilight looks down, ears lowered, she looks back at her friend and walks away. “I’m sorry, Fluttershy” she says as she passes Spike and down the basement. Spike looks at Twilight, then at Fluttershy who was still crying. He’d figure Fluttershy would be mad, but not like this. The young dragon walks over to the crying pegasi and stands by her side, rubbing her back, which got her attention. She looks up and stares at him. “Don’t be mad, Fluttershy. Twilight just got impatient. That’s all. She didn’t want to hurt you at all.” The timid Pegasus looks down and turns her head. “All she wants is your forgiveness. I know you have every right to be angry at her, but, she did it for you and every other pony to see. It wasn’t just for her” Fluttershy sniffles before looking at Spike and giving him a gentle hug, smiling. Spike hugs back and smiles as well. “Oh Spike, thanks for telling me. I’m still mad at her, but she has my forgiveness” The timid pegasi releases the baby dragon. “That’s good, Fluttershy. I’m glad to hear that” Spike says with a happy tone. “Um, Spike. Can you do me a favor?” Fluttershy asks, shyly. “Sure, what is it?” He asked. Fluttershy narrows her eyes down, letting Spike know about her situation. Spike follows Fluttershy’s eye movements down to her blood stained bandages. He widens his eyes and looks at her face to face with a “oh” In the basement, Twilight hangs her head, sad that she made her friend so angry at her. She was wrong about what she said the other day. She couldn’t calm Fluttershy down, and she admitted to herself that Spike was right about Fluttershy. She tries not to cry about it, but the pressure proved too strong. Twilight sat down, thinking that she ruined hers and Fluttershy’s friendship, all because she wanted to bring a creature back to life. “Is this really worth it? To hurt a friend for something that fate took away. Oh Fluttershy, I’m so sorry. Can you ever forgive me?” She talked to herself for a while, until…. “Yes. I forgive you, Twilight” Twilight turns to find Fluttershy carefully walk down the stairs, with new bandages. “Fluttershy, thank you. But why? I thought you were still mad at me?” Twilight wipes the tears from her eyes as Fluttershy approached her. “Spike explained everything when he was helping me replace these bandages. I forgive you, Twilight. Next time, do be patient, please.” Fluttershy requested “Oh, um, yes, I will” Twilight blushed, shuffling a hoof on the basement floor. “How is the embryo anyway?” Fluttershy asked, raising a brow. “Doing will, it’s in a freezing container at sub-zero level.” She points her hoof to the container. “It’s already complete. Now the final step is….um, well” Fluttershy tilts her head, “what?” Spike enters the basement, walking down the stairs as the two were having their conversation. “Everything ok down here” Fluttershy looks back, “Oh yes, Twilight was about to say the final step” Fluttershy answered, looking back at Twilight. “Well, the last step is… incubation” Twilight exclaimed. Both dragon and pony tilt their heads, having no idea what Twilights talking about. “Um, what’s incubation?” Fluttershy asked. “It sounds like it has to do with cubes” Spike said, confused. “Incubation means that the fertilized egg with the embryo has to have a host carrying it” She explained, with an awkward tone. Spike and Fluttershy widen their eyes, surprised to hear this. “W-wait, you mean as in pregnancy?” Fluttershy asked. “Well, yes and no. The host will be pregnant, but the embryo itself will not have the hosts’ gene once it’s developing. So, there won’t be any relation at all” Twilight explained to them without grossing them out. “Ok? Then who will you get to host that embryo?” Spike asked, crossing his arms. “I’m not sure. I can’t do, because I’m not ready to be a surrogate mother. I’m still too young. Besides, I really don’t want to be one at all. It’s too much responsibility. Being a princess is responsibility enough” She exclaimed, rubbing the back of her head. “Ok, then who else, Twilight?” Spike asked, but got no answer from Twilight. She couldn’t ask her other friends to do it. Twilight couldn’t think of anyone else to help. She thinks about it, but no other mares come to mind. Spike tilts his head, thinking that Twilight has reached a limit. Twilight closes her eyes, crushing her eyelids, until a soft voice breaks the silence … “I’ll do it” Fluttershy offered. After what I put you through, I don’t want you to go through more pain like this.” Twilight said, with a guilt look. “I’m aware of the awful pain and… needles” she shivers “But that doesn’t mean I want to do this. And… to be honest…” Shy shuffles a hoof on the floor, a crimson red blush on her face, with her mane covering half of her right eye. Tail covering her back legs. Spike tilts his head and Twilight raises a brow, confused about Fluttershys’ behavior. It went silent before Spike breaks it and asks, “Honest about what, Fluttershy?” Fluttershy worked up her nerve. She slowly looked at her friends, shyly with a slight puppy dog look. A face like that would out adorable anything in Equestria. Twilight and Spike have seen this look before, and of all the things they’ve seen that’s cute, even parasprites, Fluttershy’s shy puppy dog eyes is the most adorable thing they’ve seen. Twilight cringed and spoke out, saying “Please, not the puppy look, just tell us before I actually have a heart attack” Spike nods in agreement, not wanting any more cuteness attacks. Fluttershy sits up straight. The blush deceases and her mane moves away from her eye. “Sorry” She apologized and continued to talk “Anyway, I… um… I kind of” she blushes again, but inhales, and, “I kind of always wanted to be a mother” she said, looking at the ground with a small smile, much to Twilight and Spikes shock. Twilight widens her eyes to the size of beach balls, and Spike drops his jaw in disbelief. Fluttershy eyes her friends, her expression changes from happy to somewhat scared. “Oh, I’m sorry, did I say something wrong” she asked them, in her trademark shy tone. “Um no, but, I do have questions in my head, though. First: what the tartarus! Why didn’t you say anything, Fluttershy? Second: What got you thinking you wanting to be a mother? And third: Do you know the risk in all this? It’s not a foal, it’s a Ponysaur. A creature that, I presume, would be harder to take care of” Twilight lectures her friend, only to receive an annoyed look on her face. Twilight noticed the look and quickly tries to figure out what she said wrong, but it was too late, the timid pegasi approached the lavender alicorn and ‘happily’ answered her questions. “I’m shy around others, Twilight. Even when it’s the time of the month, I hide from stallions. Every day when I walk through Ponyville, I would see mares and stallions with their foals, having a good time. Even though the six of us don’t have foals, it would still be beautiful to have one. I know I call some of my animal friends, and angel bunny, my babies, but that still doesn’t mean much. I’d like to have a foal, and call it my baby. And as for your last question, I’m completely aware of it, Twilight. I did take classes, you know. And have you not seen what I do around my home?” Fluttershy lashed a bit, making sure Twilight got it crystal clear. “Ok, Ok, you win, Fluttershy. We’ll do it. We’ll make your wish come true” Twilight held her hooves up to try and calm Fluttershy down. She succeeded. Fluttershy smiled and wanted to hug Twilight, but the wound on her underbelly only made her cringe in pain. Twilight lowered her hooves and walked up to hug Fluttershy. She smiled as she wrapped her forelegs around her friend, gently hugging her. Fluttershy returned the favor. Spike smiled and wanted to join, but a knock on the door caught his attention. “Huh? Who could that be?” Spike walks upstairs and heads to the door. He opens the door to find Rarity standing behind it, smiling. Hearts appear around the baby dragons head and replaced his pupils. He smiled lovingly at the white unicorn. “Hello, Rarity” he said in a love-stricken voice. The beautiful unicorn smiles at the baby dragon, “Hi, Spikey Wikey” she leans down and gives him a gentle nuzzle on his cheek. “How are you today?” “Oh, just fine, now that you’re here” he sighs before snapping out of his love trance, asking “Wait, what are doing here? Is there something you need?” Rarity lifts her head and nods, “Actually, yes, there is something I need to discuss with Twilight” “Like what?” Spike raises a brow before coming out and closing the door behind him. “It has to do with the creature Twilight wants to bring back” “Oh yeah, I didn’t see you with the others yesterday. Rainbow really doesn’t like what Twilight is doing. AJ is mixed between sides. And Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are on our side for this” “I see. How is that coming along, anyway?” Rarity asked, tilting her head a bit. Spike smiles, “Twilight is finished. She succeeded in making the… um... embryo. I think that’s what it’s called” Spike scratches his head. “That’s great. But… how will she proceed even further? I heard, one time, from scientists that you need to incubate the embryo in order to get the actual creature” Rarity exclaimed. “That’s just it, Twilight was aware of what you said, but-“ “But what?” “Twilight considered using live incubation for the process” Rarity went silent for a full minute before widening her eyes a bit, “Live incubation. As in a host, not a container?” Spike nod, “Yup, a pony will carry that embryo inside her, till it’s ready to be born” he explained. “Spike, pray tell, who is going to be pregnant with that embryo?” she asked. “Is it Twilight?” “Nope” Spike replied. “Roseluck?” “No, it’s not her. Good guess, though” “Then who, Spikey?” Spike motions her to come close. Rarity moves her ear close to Spike as he whispers the answer to her, “Fluttershy” Rarity sprang up and yelps, “What!” but Spike covers her mouth in time, putting his finger on his mouth, telling her to keep it down. Rarity nods, but excitement is building up fast. Spike releases Rarity’s muzzle, and tells her, “It’s true. Fluttershy wants to have the ponysaur. She even told Twilight and I that she wants to be a mother, and-“ “Mother!?! Her? Why didn’t she say any…?” Spike cuts her off again, “Don’t shout, the process hasn’t started, yet. And I don’t think Twilight wants me to tell any other pony. So this is between us, ok?” the baby dragon lets go of Rarity’s muzzle as she smiled at him” “Of course, darling. You know, most of us do see Fluttershy as being a great mother, but her shyness just gets in the way. Twilight must be doing a huge favor for her.” “So, are you supporting this?” Rarity giggles, “Absolutely, Spike. Even though it’s not an actual foal, it’s still lovely to see her wish come true. Oh, the dress I’ll make for her and the young one. So exhilarating” she tried to hold in her excitement but couldn’t withstand it any longer. She bounced up and down, giggling with excitement. “What should I make for the mother to be? Oh, something soft. Cotton? No. Silk? Maybe. Oh, this is difficult!” Rarity puffs her cheeks before Spike intervenes her train of thought. “The baby isn’t here, yet. And I don’t think Fluttershy wants anything right now. She’s been through a lot since Twilight started researching” “Oh right. Silly me. I’m getting ahead of myself” Rarity chuckled at her own silliness. A sudden jolt struck Rarity’s mind. She remembers a task she had to do before she started chatting with Spike. “I almost forgot, I have a request from somepony I need to do. I’ll see you later, Spike” she turns and waves as Spike waves back, watching her depart. “*sigh* she’s so beautiful” Spike says as he walks back inside the library. Twilight walks out of the basement and sees Spike, “Who was that, Spike?” “Rarity” He lets out a love strucked sigh. “Snap out of it! What did she want?” Twilight yells to get the baby dragons attention. “Huh? Oh, she wanted to let me tell you that she was on our side in this ponysaur project” Twilight smiles, “That’s good to hear” “How’s Fluttershy? Did ya’ll get started already?” Spike asked. “She’ll be fine. And no, we haven’t started. She’s still recovering from the extractions I did. But, once she’s healed up and read, we will get started” “Where is she now?” Twilight points her horn upstairs, “She in my room, resting. She’s still weak from blood drainage. But I fixed it. So, no more bleeding” “Good, seeing that blood made me cringe something fierce” Twilight nods, “Tell me about it” The night slowly arrived. Twilight yawns, “I think I should get some sleep. Bringing a monster back is hard work.” She says, kind of teasingly. Spike starts to get bags under his eyes, “I agree. Time seemed to roll by fast” he lets out a short yawn. “I know. Come on, Spike. Let’s get some sleep” “You don’t have to tell me twice” Both dragon and Alicorn walk upstairs to join their friend in the amazing world of dreamland. Twilight opens the door to find Fluttershy sleeping soundly on her bed, snuggling her head against a pillow. Twilight smiles, yawns again, and then walks up to another bed she had for her guests. Twilight would inform Fluttershy to sleep on the guest bed, but this a big exception. Spike and Twilight climb on their beds and slowly drift to sleep for the event that will come to them in moment’s notice. Two days have passed and Fluttershy’s wound heals successfully. With the bandages removed, the timid pegasi approaches Twilight for a well-cooked breakfast from Spike. Both ponies sat on different sides of the table and wait for their food. Spike walked up and gave his friends pancakes and glasses of milk. They smile and thanked the baby dragon before eating. Spike walks away from the girls and heads to the basement to check on the equipment. Once he reached the bottom, he browsed his eyes on the equipment… and the ponysaur skull. “hmm…” Spike walks up to the skull and looks at it more, scanning it fully. “A monster that attacked old age Ponyville. What exactly are you? Are you a dragon like me, or something completely different?” Spikes mind rushed with questions. He crosses his arms before looking at the container with the embryo inside. ~ Twilight looks at Fluttershy, “how are you feeling, Fluttershy?” she asked. “I’m feeling better. Thanks, Twilight” she smiles at her lavender friend. “That’s good to hear.” She smiles, and drinks her glass of milk. “Twilight… I’m ready” Fluttershy said, out of the blue, causing Twilight to spit take out of shock. “Y-you are!” her voice quivered, “a-are you sure?” Fluttershy nods, “Yes”. ~ Spike examines the equipment one more time before leave, until… “Spike” Twilight shouted. “Get the tools ready” she commanded the baby dragon. Spike raises a brow, “What for? Is Fluttershy ready, or something?” he asks. “Yes, she is” With that, Spike grabs the tools needed for the incubation: A very this injector, a wash cloth, and soothing goo, to make the injector go in easier. Fluttershy and Twilight walk downstairs and spotted spike with a silver sliding table, with the tools on it. Once at the bottom, Fluttershy takes deep breaths, and talks to herself, “~Ok, you can do this Fluttershy. You’re going to be a mother for the first time. But, then again, I should have a second thought on this. Oh, now I’m confused~” she shakes her head and looks at Twilight, nervously. Twilight looks at Fluttershy with a nervous look. She walk over to her timid friend and comforts her, “I can see you’re nervous, Fluttershy. Do you need more time to think about this?” the lavender alicorn offered. Fluttershy shakes her head, and says “No, I’m ready. This is what I’ve always wanted, and I don’t want to back down” she had a confident look in her eyes. Twilight smiles, “Alright, then we’ll get started right away. But you must know, this is an animal you’re about to carry. It’s not an actual foal” As much as Fluttershy wanted to ignore that statement, Twilight was right. She is going to be a mother, but not to a foal of her own. So, by carrying the ponysaur embryo, will she really be a mother, or just a walking egg? Fluttershy ignores her thoughts and tells Twilight, “I know. But now that I think of it, my dream will only come half true.” She frowns. “Let’s just get this over with” Twilights’ smile faded from her face. Reality can hurt, but Fluttershy needed to know the truth. Twilight sighs, “The mattress is over there” she points her right to the same mattress Fluttershy and Spike slept before. Fluttershy nods and walks towards the mattress, climbs on it and lies down on her left side. Twilight approaches the resting pegasi and conjures a spell from her horn that covers Fluttershy for about a minute, and then fades away. Fluttershy blinks a few times, and asks, “What did you do?” “I cast a numbing spell on you. You can’t feel anything from your stomach down to your legs” Fluttershy looks at her back legs and tries moving them to no avail. “Wow, so I won’t feel any needles?” she asked. “Not at all. You’ll be fine. But well make this quick, I promise” She smiled softly, receiving a nod from Fluttershy. “Spike, roll her on her back and I’ll get the embryo” Spike nods and walks over to Fluttershy and looks at her face to face. He gives her an encouraging smile before rolling her on her back. “You know, of all the ponies out there, you are pretty brave, Fluttershy” Spike complimented. “Thanks Spike. And, um, thank you for staying with me that one night when I had some of my blood removed” “No problem, Flutters” He backs away a bit as Twilight approaches Fluttershy with the injector holding the embryo and egg inside. “Ready?” she asked. Fluttershys’ heart raced a mile a minute when she saw the needle. She closed her eyes as Twilight carefully moves the needle over her friend, and shifts it in a thirty degree angle. Spike walks up to Fluttershy to try and comfort her. Instead, he gets pulled in to a monster bear hug, having the life squeezed out of him. Twilight carefully thrusts the needle, poking through Fluttershys’ stomach and into her womb. She uses her magic to push the injectors handle, making it push the fertilized egg back into Fluttershy, with the embryo inside. The egg comes out and swims back into place where it was originally created. Now, in sits there and waits, letting the ponysaur embryo does the same thing: it swims to the middle of the egg and rests, waiting for time to let it grow. Even though she was numb, Fluttershy felt a strange sensation flow in her body. She felt light headed at first, then felt her stomach queasy. She eyes sort of dilated, until Twilight finished the incubation. She released Spike once the embryo was inside her. The baby dragon inhaled and exhaled, happy to be out of the grip. Twilight magically levitates the wash cloth next to her, and as she levitates the needle out of her friend, she quickly places it on the hole that the needle left. “Ok, the embryo is placed.” Twilight announces, looking at Fluttershy. “Really?” she asked, her voice seemed kind of slow. “Yes, congratulations, Fluttershy” “Yay!” she collapses on the mattress, out cold from the feelings she received in her body. Spike and Twilight gasped in shock. Twilight looks down at Fluttershy, saying her name and telling her, “Are you alright? Fluttershy!” she asked. Fluttershy slowly closed her eyes. Twilights’ voice became mumbles, then silence; her hearing has shut down on her. Her eyes fully closed; she is now unconscious. Enjoy! //-------------------------------------------------------// Discovery //-------------------------------------------------------// Discovery “How much farther is it, Twilight?” Spike complained. “My feet are killing me” “Hurry up, Spike. It’s not much further,” Twilight looked back at Spike, “Princess Celestia gave us a task to find rare flowers for Luna for her birthday. We must not waste any time!” the young princess barks, commanding her assistant to speed up. Spike rolls his eyes, “And I thought you weren’t this bossy before” he whispers to himself, walking behind Twilight as they approach the halfway mark of Alicorn Mountain. Twilight shifted her eyes in different areas of the mountain, seeing bushes, gopher holes, the mountain's side to their left, and the dirt path they were walking on. She looked down then straight ahead and sighed, thinking that it’s that kind of trip where that certain item is at the top of a mountain. Maybe Spike was right. She looked back to see the young dragon panting his lungs out and hoping to take a break from all this walking; his wish came true when Twilight turned around to stop him. Spike looked up at Twilight, “Let’s take a break, Spike,” she smiled warmly before finding a spot to rest. Spike smiled, relieved to hear Twilight say that. “Thank you, Twilight”, he walks to the wall side of Alicorn Mountain with Twilight and sat down, rubbing his aching feet. “You’re welcome”, Twilight sits next to him and gave him a motherly nuzzle on his cheek. “Sorry for pushing you to walk up the hill. I keep forgetting you’re a baby dragon” she looked at Spike with an apologetic smile. “It’s ok, Twilight,” he blushed from her nuzzle, “Do you have any water with you?” “Yes I do, Spike” She looked at her bag she brought for the trip and used her magic to open the bag as she levitated a bottle of water out and gave it to Spike. He smiled with glee and grabbed it before opening it and drinking it. Twilight smiled at Spike and giggled before scanning the surrounding area; as she did, she was thinking about that task Celestia gave her: find and retrieve the lunar flower from Alicorn Mountain. "What is a lunar flower? Why wasn’t it cataloged in any of the books?" Twilight asked herself before snapping back into reality. She’ll ask Celestia these questions once the task is done. In the meantime, she'll just enjoy the scenery once Spike has his energy back. Spike drinks all his water and takes a few deep breaths, “That was refreshing” he said, putting a smile on Twilights face. “You ready to go?” she asked. “Yeah,” he got up and stretched his legs and arms, “Once this task is over with, I’m going to take a long nap” he says as he walk ahead of Twilight. “Or go to the spa with Rarity” Twilight giggled teasing him. Spike stopped and looks at her with a bright red blush, “Rarity… spa… us!” those words were the only three that escaped his jaw. He got excited before Twilight calmed him down with a gentle rub on his head. “Easy there, loverboy. It won’t be just you and Rarity. Fluttershy, Applejack and I are coming along, too,” She smiled, “Besides, it would be great to take a break from all the studying and magic practice” “Twilight on a break? Wow, never thought I’d see the day” Spike chuckled at his own joke. “Ha ha, Spike. Let’s get going” Twilight chuckled, use to Spike's teasing by now. “Right!” He gave a salute and dashed to Twilight's side. They walked further up the mountain, feeling the air rush through them. Twilight turned her head and walked over to look over the edge of the mountain. The view was beautiful. She saw Ponyville, Canterlot and Cloudsdale clear as day. Spike approached and looked at the view, too. He shifted his eyes from side to side, baffled by how high they were. “Wow. Everypony looks like ants from up here” Spike said as he chuckled "I'm king of the world!" he shouted as an echo of his voice can be heard. “Yes they do,” Twilight chuckles with him. She turned around and walked on up the mountain's path, “Come on, King of the Mountain. We’re not-- wha!” the ground suddenly collapsed under Twilight. “You say something, Twilight,” Spike looks back to see Twilight gone, and a pony sized hole replacing her position, “Twilight?” Twilight rolled and tumbled down a tunnel. She let out grunts and oofs with each hit she made. The saddle on her back, with all their equipment inside, snapped off and fell off her back as she tumbled further down the tunnel. Rolling was the last thing Twilight did before finally reaching the end of the tunnel and crashing to the ground with a thud. “Oof” the saddle followed shortly after, hitting the ground and scattering the equipment around Twilight. Spike quickly rushed to the hole and looked down, seeing nothing but blankness. “You ok, Twilight?” he shouted as loud as possible. Twilight got up and sat on her flank, shaking her head before looking around to see nothing but pure darkness. Thankfully, she heard Spike, “I’m fine. Just can’t see high-hoof of anything down here” She got back up on her hooves, fixed her wings and folded them back into place. She looked back to have a beam of light shine down behind her. She walked under the light to see a small shadow in the form of Spike barely covering Twilight's head. She turned her body and looked straight ahead. “Where am I?” she said, "It's so dark in here, I can't see a thing." she quickly got idea and closed her eyes, concentrating her magic to glow a bright purple. Using her magic, she lit her horn like a lantern, revealing what was in front of her and where she was at. “What the hay!” she widened her eyes, surprised to see she stumbled upon a cave large enough to fit a adult dragon. “See anything?” Spike shouted. “So far I see nothing but rocks and the cave wa… wait, what’s this?” Twilight walked straight through the cave, escaping Spikes view. “What is it?” Spike asked but got no response. Twilight walked up to the cave wall on the right and beamed her magic on it, then widens her eyes and dropped her jaw a bit. “No way...” she gazed at the wall for a little bit before scrolling her eyes-- as if she was reading something. “What do you see in there, Twilight?” Spike asked again, finally getting a response. “Drawings, engravings and paintings” Twilight exclaimed, describing her view while reading the wall. “What? I don't understand what you're-- ” A purple aura surrounded Spike's body and transported inside the cave, next to Twilight, landing on his butt next to her. “Warn me next time when you do that,” he rubbed her thigh before getting up, “Now, what are you talking about?” Twilight pointed her hoof at the cave's wall. Spike looked at Twilight's direction before widening his eyes in shock and amazement “Whoa”. The wall in front of them displayed drawings of what seemed to be like doodles of pegasi, unicorn and earth ponies joining together in peace and happiness. Twilight moved her horn and scanned the rest of the wall before see more drawings; this time, it displayed the trees, the sun and more ponies playing together. “What does this all mean?” Spike asked Twilight as he followed her while she walked beside the engraved wall, flaring her magic on it. “I don’t know, but it seems like these drawings look ancient, and from looking at it, I think this might be Equestria from a thousand years ago." she theorized "It looks so peaceful” she advanced further to see more until something caught her eyes, something she and Spike had never seen before. The painted drawings led to the ponies turning their faces at the trees, with frightened, horrified faces. “What’s got them spooked?” Spike asked as he and Twilight scrolled further down the wall, seeing more trees. “I’m curious to know myse…” Twilight lets out a gasp as the next scene she saw was beyond terrifying. It revealed a massive creature barreling out of the trees and charging straight for the ponies. Spike saw this and had an even more questioned, yet surprised, look. “What is that thing?” He asked with a surprised tone. “I don’t know. I’ve never seen a creature like this before in any of the books I've read” she glanced at the creature to get a clearer description. The creature appeared quadruped in appearance. It had a long thick tail. Its head was large and had a bulky feature to it, meaning it would have had a habit to ramming into things. And the teeth were shaped like bananas. “Scary...” Spike said, slight frightened “I know, Spike,” Twilight reached the end of the wall to see the rest of it was destroyed by the rocks, “Bummer. I was hoping there’d be more to this” “What do you think this means?” Spike asked. “It means that an unknown monster attacked Equestria long ago” Twilight replied before looking ahead of the cave. “Maybe we’ll see more if we go further down” she suggested. “Alright, but I got a bad feeling about this” Spike said, staying behind Twilight. Spike and Twilight walked further down the unknown cave in search for more answers on what they witnessed. Twilight flashed her magic on the walls, but found nothing. Spike walked behind Twilight, looking around as well. Twilight thought that maybe that was it and there weren't any more clues to find. She figured the mystery as to what happened to the ponies or what that mysterious monster will remain unsolved. “Twilight, about that monster, do you think it could be some kind of dragon?” He asked as they walked. “I don’t think so, Spike. I’ve never seen a dragon with teeth quite like that. And, its body was four legged and narrow much like… my own and other ponies” she thought about that for a sec. Spike raised a brow, “Do you think it’s some kind of pony reptile, or something?” “No, don’t be silly Spike. A reptile pony in Equestria?” She laughed and thought that wasn't possible at the least. “That would be the silliest thing I’ve ever heard” “Yeah, you’re probably right” Spike laughed in agreement. Twilight stopped and sighed, reaching nowhere near the end of the cave. “Well, I think we've reached the point to nowhere” she grew tired of walking any further; she didn't know how deep the cave was, and frankly, she didn't want to find out anymore. Spike agrees before hearing an ominous noise around them, “What the...?” “Come on, Spike. Let’s head back” She turned around but was stopped by the baby dragon. “Spike, What ware are you…” he grabbed and closed her muzzle. “Shh, you hear that Twilight?” he listens closely, much to Twilight's confusion. “Mmm... Mmm?” Twilight muffled in Spike's hand. “Wind, Straight ahead.” He pointed straight ahead of them. Twilight looked back before looking at Spike and telling him, with the very end of her jaw, “Can you let go of my muzzle, please?” “Oh...” He released her muzzle “...Sorry” “It’s fine. Now, where are you hearing wind?” She asked, confused. “Over there. Follow me” He dashed to the source of the wind. Twilight followed in hot pursuit. Spike dashed until he stopped and felt a cool breeze around his ankles. Twilight stopped behind him. “Why did you stop?” Twilight asked. “It’s here.” “The wind?” she raised a brow. “Yes, don’t you feel it?” Twilight looked around before she could feel the same breeze that Spike felt. “I do. I do feel it. But where is it coming from?” “There” Spike pointed to a tiny crack on the left side of the cave a few feet away from them; at the very end of the cave. The breeze, somehow, grew stronger when they walked deeper in the cave. Both Spike and Twilight walked to the crack in the wall to examine it. Once they approached the crack, Twilight listened closely; it didn’t sound like wind from outside, but more like a room was on the other side. “Well?” Spike glanced at Twilight. Twilight lifted her head, saying, “There’s something behind this wall” She steps back as Spike watched her. “What could it be?” “I don’t know, but I’m going to find out” her horn started to glow brighter. Spike quickly got out of the way and stood a few feet away from Twilight. “What are you doing, Twilight?!” Spike shouted “I’m going to blast the wall apart” she prepared to fire. "I have to see what is behind them in order to get the answers we're looking for" “Twilight, stop! That'll bring the--” It was too late. Twilight fired a powerful magic blast at the cave's wall, causing it to explode and collapse. Twilight quickly congered a force field around her and Spike and huddled together as the walls shook violently and caused the crack grow with more gravel falling from the ceiling. Spike looked at the collapsing wall in time to something white fall to the ground. The wall cracks began to spread and connect to other cracks in the walls that were connected to the ceiling, while the shaking intensified. This caused the cave to collapse above and around them. Spike retreated his head back to Twilight as gravel and dirt hit the force field surrounding them. The ceiling collapses, dropping rocks to the floor along with more of whatever Spike saw when he peeked out. Twilight remained focus throughout the collapsing cave. The roaring walls started to calm. Twilight slowly opened her eyes while Spike separated himself from her as they found themselves surrounded by a cloud gravel and dirt. Everything went silent, a few pebbles rolled down much larger rocks, but that was it. Twilight looked at the damage but only saw more dirt cloud. Spike did the same thing; he looked back, then in front of him to see that the cloud engulfed them all around. He looked up at Twilight with a stern look, “Nice job” He said in a sarcastic tone. “Sorry” She sheepishly smiled. “And I thought Rainbow Dash was destructive” “Hey, I said I was sorry. I didn’t know the whole cave would… would…” she looked ahead with a shocked look in her eye. Spike noticed and looked at the same direction as Twilight did, and then got the same look she did. As the dirt cloud vaporized around them, a giant shadow appeared before them in the form of a massive skeletal figure lying on the rubble. “Spike” “Yeah?” “Get the equipment” Author's Note I saw stories with Dinosaur and pony crossovers, but not of mixed. So, I'm making a story featuring that idea. Sorry if it seems fast paced.
