Chasing Pride

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

In the van, Pride and his gangsters were laughing and celebrating with the money they had stolen.  "I told you my plan was foolproof! He shouted.

"Sorry we doubted you boss!" A gangster laughed.

"Did you see the looks the cops gave when they shot me and nothing happened?" he asked.  The others stopped laughing and looked at him oddly.

"Why is that?" A gangster asked.

"Because I have tough skin" he lied.  "Deal with it."  A gangster looked out the back window and saw a Mercedes Benz following them.

"Uh boss, kick-ass, Mercedes Benz following us."  Pride looked through his rear-view mirror and smiled.

"Come on, let's steal it and transfer the money there." He pulled over to the side and watched the Mercedes pull over behind them.

In the Mercedes

"Cale, are you sure this will work?" He asked.

"I don't know Jack" I said, worriedly.

"Well let's pray that it does" he said.  I patted his shoulder to comfort him.

"Come on.  Let's get this shit over with." We unbuckled our seatbelt and stepped out of the car.  Jack stayed by his side of the door while I sat on the hood.  Pride and his remaining gangsters stepped out of their van and approached.

"Hello gents" Pride said with a smile.  "That's a kickass ride." We could tell that he's planning to steal the car.

"Thank you" Jack said nervously.  He cleared his throat and toughened up.  "A gift from a friend" he said.

"You're friend must be rich then" Pride said as he examined the car.  "Say um... Can one of my friends check out the interior of the car?"

"Sure" Jack said, stepping out of the way.  Pride and his gangs smiled and giggled.

"We got it boys" Pride laughed.  One of his gangsters got into the driver's seat and smiled.

"Boss, the seat feels nice! I feel like I'm a rich man already!" He laughed.

"These two guys are stupid for buying this shit we're pulling" Pride laughed.

"Actually" I said with a grin.  "You're the ones that are buying our shit." Jack slammed his door shut.  Pride and the gangsters watched through the windshield that their comrade was starting to burn up. Pride and the others drew their guns and aimed them at us.

"Let him out!" He ordered.  The gangster in the car struggled to open the door but his skin started to burn.

"Help me!" He shouted as he continued to burn to a crisp.

"Legend says" I began.  "That someone who isn't worthy tries to steal a horse belonging to one of the Four Horsemen, pays the price of death."  Pride and the other gangsters watched their comrade as he is now a burned corpse.  Jack opened the car door, grabbed the roasted gangster and threw him out of the car.

"Another legend says... The Four Horsemen carries remarkable abilities."  One of the gangsters began to choke and struggled at his neck.  On the wall, Jack's shadow was choking the gangster's shadow.  Pride and the others gasped and backed away.

"What bullshit are you guys playing at?" Pride asked as he aimed his gun at our heads.  "Kill them!" He screamed.  He and his gangsters open fired at us, but we just remained standing, or in my case, sitting.

"You were saying about killing?" Jack asked.

"Get the fuck back in the van!" Pride screamed.  Jack and I watched the gangsters scramble to their van.

"Let's ride" I said.  I put two fingers in my mouth and whistled loudly.  Pride and his gangsters turned around and saw a red portal appear.  Coming out of it was my red Chevy Camaro.  I got into my car, and buckled my seatbelt.  The second the van drove off, Jack and I followed suit.

"Did you fucking see that?!" A gangster asked.

"Yeah I fucking saw! The Horsemen are fucking real! That fucking fairy tale was no bullshit!" Pride shouted, shaking up.  "I gotta tell the boss!" He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

Somewhere

Lucifer, Envy and Greed were walking down a supermarket.   Lucifer's cell phone rang (Saw theme).  He sighed, reached into his pocket.  He pulled out his phone and answered it.  "Hello?" He asked calmly.

"Sir, the Horsemen are real!" Pride shouted.

"Of course they're real.  I kept warning you but you're too fucking stubborn to believe it."

"Hey man, there are kids here" a man said.  Lucifer put his phone against his chest so Pride wouldn't hear what he's saying.

"Get over it.  Kids will start cursing as they get older.  That's how maturity works, idiot." He pressed the phone against his ear.  "You were saying?" He asked.  The man shook his head and walked away.

"Sir! The Horsemen are chasing us down the street with cars faster than this shit van! Help us!"

"Um... No.  You refused to believe my warning."

"Sir, I'm sorry! I believe you now!"

"The answer is 'no', Pride.  You got yourself in that situation, you can get yourself out."

"I can't! They're fucking immortal!"

"Oh... Then I don't know what to say" he said, faking a scared tone.

"Boss please! I followed your orders for a long time!"

"Fine.  Here's some advice."

"What is it?"

"You're fucked.  Goodbye Pride." He hung up and pocketed his phone.

"But sir, doesn't that mean your immortality drops a little?" Envy asked.

"Yeah, so?"

"You'll be more vulnerable after each Deadly Sin dies."

"But they don't know where the rest of you are do they?"

"Good point."

"Besides.  Pride was too proud of his plan, he didn't even think about the five-star hotel near the bank."

"What about the hotel?"

"That's the Horsemen base.  And they also have to lovely ladies in there who are not part of this world."

"How do you know that?"

"I'm a devil.  I fucking know everything.  I'm just too stubborn and lazy to share them with you."

Back on the Streets

I was on the phone with Jack trying to dodge traffic.  "Jack, do you see him?" I asked.

"Yeah!" He shouted.

"We kill Pride together! Eliminate his goons!"

"You got it!"

In the van, Pride was seething with anger.  "Damn it, Lucifer! You fucking betrayed me!" He screamed.

"It's ok boss, we're here for..." Before a gangster could finish comforting him, one of Jack's shadows popped out of his own, screeched loudly, and stabbed him in the throat.  Other shadows of Jack popped out of every gangster's shadow and attacked.  One stabbed a gangster in the chest and slit his throat, another pierced bladed finger through his head, and another gnawed at the last gangster's neck.  One of Jack's shadows slithered behind Pride.

"Shepherds the Horsemen shall be!" He hissed and clapped one hand over Pride's eyes with one hand and veered the steering wheel sharply to the right with the other.  After a sinister laugh, the shadows vanished.  Pride's van rolled down an exit and crashed into an empty gas station, causing an explosion.  Being an immortal, he struggled to get out of his van.  Looking past the fire, he saw a red Camaro and a black Mercedes approaching him.

Pride finally fought his out of the van and walked through the fire.  Most of his clothes were burnt, he was scractched, bloodied, bruised, and half burnt.  He tried calling for help, but his voice was raspy and he could barely be heard over the roar of the fire.  We watched as Jack and I step out of our cars and approached him.  My Camaro vanished like smoke while Jack's car remained parked.  I reached into my jacket pocket and shot him several times in the legs.  Pride screamed hoarsely in pain and fell on his knees, groaning in pain.

"One left?" I asked.  Jack coked his handgun and grinned.

"Yep."

"I got two bullets to spare before I have one left" I said.

"Let's do this then" Jack said. The two of us approached the writhing creature that was once human.  I raised my gun up and shot Pride in the arms, pinning them to the ground.  His cries of pain were as inhuman as before when I shot his legs.  We both aimed our guns at his head and recited the prayer together.

"A shepherd I shall be

For Thee my Lord for Thee

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand

That my feet may swiftly carry out Thy command

So I shall flow a river forth onto Thee

And teeming with souls shall it ever be

In Nomine Patri

Et Fili

Spiritus Sancti."

"NO!" Pride screamed as loud as he could.  Jack and I planted our last bullets into his skull, nonchalantly walked back to Jack's car, and drove off, leaving the burned lifeless body, and blown up gas station behind.
