Muffins

The bell had rung, and Ditzy dashed to her backpack. She fumbled through the stuff inside, looking for her muffin. She couldn't find it, so she dug her head into her bag and looked around.

"Where are you?" she muttered to herself. "I've found you!"

She eyed the muffin, double checking that it was indeed a muffin. She pulled out the plastic bag and trotted to her desk before sitting. As she pried open the plastic bag, she was made aware of somepony laughing at her. She had once acted with disdain at the sound, but she learned to just block it out after being teased so much.

She pulled out the muffin, and chewed it hungrily. She didn't get lunch, and she didn't want to eat it early in the day. When she finally finished, her stomach growled, asking for more. Ready to lick her crumbs, she realized the entire class was staring at her.

"Oh no," she whispered. "Not this again." She closed her eyes and covered her ears with her hooves. They were going to start the teasing. The teacher wasn't in the room, so nopony could defend Ditzy from the bullies.

She could block out the laughter, but these taunts were more cruel because they were said to her face, and her best friend was the one who came up with them. One year, her best friend had suddenly changed classes, and by the next year she acted like a total jerk. Just like every other pony in her class.

"Derpy Hooves, Derpy Hooves, Derpy, Derpy, Derpy Hooves," They sang their tune over and over, with the occasional nasty comment dropped in.

"I bet you're so derpy because all you eat is muffins."

"You're so stupid."

"Only people who rot their brains have eyes like that."

The final nail in the coffin was her best friend- No, let's not call her that. When her so-called friend spoke. "Get over it. After all, we're just making harmless jokes, no need to cry. Besides, 'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,' so stop it, Derpy."

She hated that name, and everypony who called her that. It wasn't her name. Her name was Ditzy Doo, not Derpy Hooves. So why were people calling her that? It was probably because her eyes flipped out frequently. Ponies might have thought she looked silly, and the teasing began.

Words would always hurt just as much as the sticks and stones, sometimes even more so. Ponies would tease and tease, and never ever stop. She always thought that the whole world and everypony in it was cruel, venomous and uncaring. Why else would they all tease her for something she couldn't control? It felt like the whole world was against her sometimes, with a few exceptions.

That was it. She galloped out of the room, her tear stained face, red with embarrassment and tears.

Her teacher passed by her in the hallway.

"No, Dinky, wait!" She raised a hoof in protest, and gave chase but stopped when she realized that Dinky was ignoring her. "That's the fifth time this week," she muttered to herself.
