Chapter 20: Jeff the....Chicken?

"Come on, do it." Jeff whined to Ben.

"No."

"Come ooon!" Jeff was watching Ben play Pokemon, or he had been. It had turned into begging. For what, you might wonder. For wings.

"No matter how much you beg or plead, it's not happening." Ben said, trying to ignore Jeff.

"Come on, please, I'll do something for you."

"Nope."

Jeff began shaking Ben. "Please, I'll do anything, I've always wanted this, even before we came here, why are you so insensitive?"

Ben looked over at Jeff, annoyed. "It's not that I don't want to help you, it's just that the magic energy that it would take to give an earth pony wings is most likely far too much for my horn to handle."

"Come on, at least try."

Jeff had been begging for at least an hour now, and Ben knew it wasn't going to end anytime soon. "If I try giving you wings, will you leave me alone?"

Jeff nodded.

"Alright then, but when it fails, don't complain to me about it."

Jeff stood in front of Ben, his smile more disturbingly large than usual.

Ben rolled his eyes and fired up his horn, fully expecting the spell to fail. A green aura surrounding Jeff.

After about a minute the green glow faded and the spell was over. Jeff looked around expectantly, disappointed when he saw nothing. "Ben, it didn't work." He said, annoyed.

Ben, however, was staring at Jeff in awe. I can't believe that actually worked. He thought. If I can do that, imagine what else my magic can do. A large grin formed on his face.

"Uh, hello?" Jeff tapped Ben on the nose, snapping him out of his trance. "You did it wrong, there aren't any wings."

Ben looked at Jeff, unamused, then smirked, thinking of a way to make the wings reveal themselves. He didn't respond, but wrapped Jeff in a hug, causing the wings to pop out with a pomf sound.

"Oh, hey, it did work." Jeff said as Ben pulled away. He then tried putting his wings back to his sides, and failed miserably. "Ben, why won't they go down?" He had a worried look on his face, thinking that something was wrong with his new appendages.

Ben muffled a laugh with his hoof. "T-that's normal." He said, trying not to laugh out loud.

"When will they go down?" Jeff asked. "And why are they staying up like that in the first place?"

"D-don't worry, they're fine." Ben answered, keeping his laughter in becoming harder and harder. "T-they should go down soon, and i-if they don't I'm sure E.J could h-help you."

"Why are you laughing?" Jeff asked, tilting his head.

"N-no reason." Ben answered.

"Seriously, is something on my face?" Jeff raised a hoof to his face, which had a very confused look.

"No, it's not your face."

"What's going on down here?" E.J asked, floating down the stairs.

"E.J, what's wrong with my wings?" Jeff ran up to E.J, knocking him out of the air.

"Ben...What did you do?" E.J asked, staring at Jeff's erect wings.

"N-nothing." Ben answered, still trying not to laugh. "He wanted wings, so I used a spell to give them to him."

"And, why are they like...that?" E.J gestured to the appendages as he spoke.

"What do you mean?" Ben asked. "Isn't that normal?"

E.J just looked in between the two ponies, thinking about how he was surrounded by idiots.

Ben teleported next to E.J in a green flash of light. "I know what the erect wings means." He whispered. "But Jeff doesn't, and it's funny to watch him try to figure it out."

"So, I don't tell him what it means?" E.J asked, whispering as quietly as Ben.

"Exactly."

E.J nodded and turned to Jeff. "Nothing is wrong with your wings." He answered. "It should fix itself, and if it doesn't then I'm not helping you."

"Couldn't you just try pushing them down?" Jeff asked. "They're really uncomfortable like this."

"No, that would just make the problem worse."

"But they're starting to ache." Jeff whined. "Isn't there a way to make them go down?"

"Ice usually helps with me." E.J answered.

"How am I supposed to put ice on them, I don't have magic."

"Well.." E.J thought about what to tell Jeff without telling him what this was. "I can't help you, but I'm sure Ben would be more than happy to help." With that he floated back up the stairs, leaving Ben stunned.

"Can you help?" Jeff asked.

"No." Ben answered, walking past Jeff, into the living room.

"But-"

"Have Toby help you." Ben interrupted.

Jeff sighed and turned away. "Fine." He walked up the stairs the best he could, his wings getting in the way every few seconds. After climbing the stairs he made his way to the door at the farthest en of the hallway and knocked.

"Go away, I'm innocent!" The voice of Toby shouted from the other side of the door.

"Toby, it's me." Jeff said.

"I'm not coming out, it's a trap!" Toby shouted.

"No it's not, Toby." Jeff said.

"Go away!"

Jeff sighed, knowing that there was no way he'd be able to get Toby out of his room. He sat next to Ben, who had begun to play Minecraft on the laptop. He adjusted himself so his wings didn't touch Ben. It was uncomfortable, but it was better than having Ben break them. "Hey Ben."

"Hey." Ben greeted, not really paying attention

"Does this mean I'm never gonna fly?" Jeff asked, his heart sinking a bit.

Ben sighed. "No, they'll go down eventually." Ben answered, turning his head to face Jeff. Although, if they're up for more than 2 hours then you might wanna go to the hospital. He added silently.

"If you say so." Jeff glanced at the appendages once more before turning away. "Can I watch you play for a bit?"

"Sure, as long as you don't smack me with those things."

"I won't." Jeff said, getting into a position that let him watch, but was a lot less comfortable.

                                                                                  ~~~
It was about 2 hours later. Jeff had watched Ben play Minecraft for one of those hours, but he got bored after a while and decided to pace. His hooves ached a bit, since he'd been pacing a little bit over an hour, but he didn't want to sit down, that would make him have to be uncomfortable again.
"Hey, Jeff." Ben called to him, making him stop pacing.
"Yeah?"
"Check yourself."
Jeff tilted his head. confused as to what Ben meant. He looked at each of his hooves, at his tail and his, still blank, flank. After looking himself over for a good few minutes he sighed in defeat.
Ben sighed in annoyance and used his magic to lift Jeff's wings, which had returned to his side after only a few minutes of pacing.
"Oh, dear Zalgo." Jeff muttered, his smile widening. "They went down."
"Told ya." Ben said, releasing his magic grip.
Jeff lifted his wings, getting ready to fly. He flapped them wildly, then fell flat on his face. When he fell, he realized something that made him want to facehoof. "I still have to learn how to fly, don't I?" He asked Ben, not lifting his face off the ground.
"Yep."
