Near the northern kingdom was a small, simple village. It was the early morning and a Pegasus started to wake from his restful night. He stretched his icy blue coated body and as well his wings. He opened his brown eyes and rubbed them both while yawning.
He got off the bed and stretched a little more. "Good morning, dear." he looked at his doorway and saw an older mare looking at him with a smile.
She was an earth pony with a tanned coat and brown mane and tail. Her cutie mark, a wooden plank and a hammer in a cross.
"Morning, mom." he greeted back, smiling at her.
He turned to his small mirror on the wall and chuckled as he noticed his bed head. He shook his head for a moment and fixed his white and cyan mane by pulling it back. He looked at his hanging leather hat his mother gave him beside the mirror and wore it.
He was then tackled by his side and fell on the floor. He looked at the giggling filly on his side, "Good morning!" she said and hugged him.
The filly was an earth pony as well. Her coat yellow and mane and tail were orange.
He rolled onto his side and hugged her back, "Good morning, sis." he greeted and hugged her tightly, covering her with his wings as well.
He released her and both got onto their hooves and started going out his room. They went down the stairs and into the kitchen to see his mother cooking at the stove.
"Good morning, kiddo." a colt greeted him, took off his hat and rubbed his head with affection.
The colt was an earth pony too. His coat yellow and his mane and tail were tan. His cutie mark was a yellow hard helmet.
His father put his son’s hat back on him and went over to the counter to make coffee. He looked behind him and saw his little sister playing with her toy train, making little cute sound effects.
His ears then perked up. He looked at the entrance door and slowly started moving towards it. As he got closer, he started hearing ponies screaming outside. He opened the door to see ponies running around, looking up in terror and horror.
He then heard a loud roar over his head and flapping wings. He looked up to a see a large green dragon, spitting out yellow hot fire balls at the houses. He swore he could see ponies still in them, screaming for help.
He looked inside his home and shouted, "Dragon!"
He looked back out and saw the dragon flying towards his home. As it spat out a ball of fire and banked up, he jumped out of the way.
Right after, all he heard was the crashing down of the house behind him. He quickly got back up and turned to his once intact home. It was all gone, his home, sister, mother, father... his family was all gone in the flaming rubble.
His body jerked to life and quickly opened his eyes to see his charred home. It was raining out and his body was soaked and cold, but all he could think about was what he could've done to save them.
He looked at the three graves ahead of him; its crosses were burnt pieces of wood. The smallest cross had a slightly burnt, brown teddy bear propped against it.
He looked at the swaying, damaged curtain behind him, catching the slight cool breeze. He got himself up and started going towards it slowly. He pulled it off with a bit of struggle and covered himself with it.
He went over to the graves and rested down on the muddy ground. He then noticed a small glimmer of light and looked in the rubble to see a framed old photo of him, his mother, father and sister with her pink binky. The glass cracked, spider webbing from the bottom right corner.
He smiled at the photo and got himself up again to go and grab it. He pushed and pulled aside the charred wood and sat as he found the photo. He grabbed it with both hooves.
He went back over to the three graves and rested down. He fixed the frame to stand it up and looked at the graves. "Remember when you found me in the forest when I was young? Yeah... thank you so much for taking me with you. Not long after I had a sister too." He chuckled, turned the photo to show them, "She looked so adorable too. Very energetic and fun loving. I took care of her like you told me to. In the school, around the town and when you two weren't here too."
He wiped his teary eyes and sniffled, "It's too bad she didn't get to find her special talent. Maybe she was going to be a singer. She always loved to sing. 'sniffle" He looked at the graves again, "You did a great job taking care of me and sis." he rested down onto his fore hooves, "Good night you three." his tears started to flow down freely.
He fell asleep on the muddy ground, rain still pouring down onto his body and curtain.
The next morning, he heard a soothing, calm voice, “Excuse me.”
He opened his eyes and yawned. He breathed in the cool morning air. The moment he opened his eyes, he saw the three graves in front of him, reminding him it wasn’t his mother to wake him.
His body was wet and muddy from last night’s pouring rain. He first took off the curtain he used as a blanket. He then sneezed and instantly knew he was coming down with cold.
He looked up with a gloomy expression and saw the Princess of Equestria, Princess Celestia. He didn’t know why exactly or what caused him, but he started to back away from her, maybe it was her size. Then it dawned on him, a flash back at the first moments of the dragon going towards him with its large wings sprawled out.
He started to hyperventilate, looking around his surrounds to see royal guards looking through broken down homes, finding a few bodies. The bodies just made it worse as he remember when he found his family, dead.
“Calm down. We’re not here to hurt you.” the Princess folded her wings back to her sides, trying to calm the Pegasus down. “You’re safe now.”
His breathing started to slow and collapsed on the muddy ground, covering his head with his hooves, shaking, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,” he continued saying.
Celestia looked at him, feeling a little responsible for his loss. She slowly went up to him and rested down beside him, covering him with her wing. “Calm down. It’s okay.” She hushed him like if she was trying to calm a crying child.
