When the Circus Came to Town
New toys
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI soon found myself walking along the town with her toward my house. I wanted to pay a visit to those who made my life a nightmare for so very long. The feeling of power, of being able to hold my own fate was amazing. We passed by other ponies from her group, walking dead, hooded mares with maces, the pegasi with bloodied wings. All of them looked so happy, smiling from ear to ear, giggling every once in a while. I wondered why they were so happy, but that was a question saved for later, right now I wanted to destroy the nightmares that I lived in for so long.
"So where are we going?" asked Lily
"My old house"
"Oh"
We walked up to the steps at the door. I ascended them and knocked.
Nothing. No sound came from inside, save a whimper from one of my sisters. Those mares rididculed me, talked to their friends about me behind my back, tattled about every little thing I did, and I could've swore they did it just to see my father punish me, since I did catch them watching a lot of times. I looked back at Lily.
"So how do we get in there?"
"Like this." She whistled and drew the attention of a few of the ponies with maces, 2 stallions and a mare came up to her.
"Could you fine gentlecolts get the door for a lady?" She said it jokingly, like what I always imagined a friend would sound like when they were having fun.
"Why yes, but only if you say you'll go to the party with us!" They covered their mouths with their hooves and snickered.
"But I already have a date." Lily replied with a sad puppy face.
"Awwww, but we wanted to go with you."
"Maybe I will if you open the door for me" She looked at me and winked. I smiled, trying to supress laughter caused by this conversation.
"Yes ma'am!" They all said in unison and giggled a little more, just before charging the door and smashing it down with the combined weight of 3 ponies. I heard the screams of my mother and sisters.
"Thank you kindly fine gentlecolts." She said with a kirtsy.
"Anything for a mare as fi-i-ine as yourself." They walked off laughing hysterically. I couldn't help it, I found myself laughing too, and I continued to laugh as I entered the door and saw my mother in the corner, pushing one of her daughters toward us and begging for her own life.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing, a mother offering up her own phillies for her life. I quickly stopped laughing. Lily looked at me, and I could see the question in her eyes: "What do you want to do with them?" She didn't have to say it, I saw it.
"Go, into you rooms while we talk." I said to the group in the corner.
None of them moved.
"NOW!"
They quickly got up and went to their mother's room, sobbing.
"Would you object to letting them go?" I asked Lily.
"Do you want them to live?"
"I don't want to kill them. I couldn't, I..."
I remembered the look on their faces, the ties they had to me. But I also remembered everything they did to me, all the ridicule.
Lily put a hoof on my shoulder.
"If you want them to be let go they can go, but I can't guarantee that you won't see them again."
I wanted them to be gone forever deep down in my soul, but my conscience wouldn't let me do it. I was about to tell Lily that I wanted them to be let go when my mother came out of her room, two sisters in tow.
Sobbing, she said: "How could you do this to us, to your family!"
I didn't turn around while I thought. "Family", the meaning of that word was so hazy to me at that moment. What was a family? A group of ponies that ridiculed you, that tortured you every chance they got?
"NO!" I shouted, turning around.
"YOU ARE NOT MY FAMILY! HOW COULD A FAMILY TREAT ONE OF THEIR OWN SO HORRIBLY! I SAW YOU AT THE CIRCUS ALL THAT TIME AGO! YOU LEFT ME TO LIE IN A POOL OF MY OWN BLOOD, SNOT AND TEARS WHILE YOU WENT AND ENJOYED YOURSELVES!"
I had to stop to draw in an enormous breath before I continued.
"YOU NEVER CARED ABOUT ME LIKE A FAMILY SHOULD CARE ABOUT ONE ANOTHER! YOU ARE -NOT- MY FAMILY!"
I stood there, breathing heavily and angrily with a face of rage as Lily walked up to me and rested a hoof on my shoulder. I looked over to her. Her touch, so soft, it soothed me like a mother's touch soothes a child. My face relaxed as I took a deep breath and looked at where my mother once stood. She had retreated to her room.
I turned to look out the door, and some of the hooded ponies apparently heard my shouts, because they were now at the steps, looking at me inquisitively.
"There's some new toys to play with in that room over there." I told them and moved to the side so that they could pass by. They were giggling as they got to the door of her room.
I walked out the door with Lily in tow. I heard their screams and I didn't care. My nightmare was over.
