“Sorry, I only got the one bed for now Twilight. I hope you are alright with sharing for now. I mean, sharing is what friends do, right?” Trixie said, as she got on the bed with the lavender mare.
It has been more than a year since they met. She still talked in third person back then. A show mare, going from town to town.
“…Right?”
Life on the road was the only way she found of surviving. Her mother died giving birth to her, so her father cared for her. Her father Presto Azure, was a librarian working at Fillydelphia Central Library. She never went to school, but her father taught her to read and write. Living her childhood in the middle of books made her smart and spiked her interest for magic, her dream was to enter Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns.
Until he died.
She took her father's death hard. He was an old stallion when he met her mother, but she didn’t think his time would come so fast. One heart attack later and the most important pony she ever had in her life was dead before he hit the ground. She was only 8 at the time, and was put in an orphanage. It was a horrid place; she was bullied and almost raped. She thanked Celestia for the fact she knew that fire spell ,or that colt would have violated her, and Discord knows what more.
She ran away almost right after. The orphanage didn’t even try to look for her.It was January, she was starving and cold, the winter raged through her small body. She tried to ask for tips and help, but she soon learned that ponies weren’t nice.
Trixie decided to use her magic to win some money. A cardboard box in an alley exit was her first stage, her first attire: the blanket she took from her bed before the social service took her to the orphanage. She earned her cutie mark that same day. She learned that shouting drove attention to her, and talking into third pony caused ponies to be puzzled.
“…Right Twilight?”
Soon after she had enough money to not starve, and got job in a bar as magician and waiter for almost a year. That was when she bought the wagon and started traveling.
She made a story about defeating an Ursa Major. She had been smart enough to make it so that no one could say she was lying or telling the truth, there was no evidence of either. The Great and Powerful Trixie was born. A mare that had power, fans and money.
“T-Twilight?”
But not friends.
The life on the streets took its price off her spirit. She was cold, harsh and brutal. She didn’t really need friends; she had fans that would do anything for her. Her life was good and her funds were high.
But she had no real happiness.
She went to Ponyville after learning that there lived the prized student pupil of Celestia, Twilight. She expected to be challenged to a magic duel as soon as she got into town. But she wasn’t.
Instead, other random ponies tried to defeat her, she took care of them. Then she heard:
Well, Twilight, guess it's up to you. Come on; show her what you're made of.
What do you mean? I'm nothing special.
Yes, you are! You're better than her!
I'm not better than anyone.
It caught her attention; she knew this was Celestia’s student and the she might be the only unicorn in Equestria to be able to defeat her, and she wasn’t ‘better than anyone’? She challenged her, and only got a frightened response saying the same thing. Maybe this will be easier than most towns. She just overlooked one detail:
Her fans were stupider here than anywhere.
Two morons brought an actual Ursa Minor to the town just to see her defeat it. Even if she could, they had completely overlooked the fact that the battle could cost entire buildings, and even innocent lives.
She tried everything she knew; it was not enough. That is when Twilight came. She fixed the problem with was perhaps the most amazing magic display she had ever seen. The song that she made, the milk to put the beast to sleep. But not before her wagon had been destroyed.
She prized everything inside that wagon, her life was there. She had a cabin on the Whitetail Woods that she used to store her money and as a vacation home, but that wagon was special to her. She fled in shame. A Pegasus was about to follow her, probably to humiliate the poor mare even more.
Just let her go. Maybe someday she'll learn her lesson.
“*snif*T-T-Twilight??”
She let her go, without any more humiliation. That made Trixie think. And caused her to break down.
As soon as she got to her cabin in the woods she broke down crying. She hadn’t cried this hard since her father died. She cried for what could have been hours, minutes or days. She didn’t know. Once she stopped crying Trixie looked back. The lavender mare had every opportunity to humiliate her, be loved by fans and have fame. But she didn’t use any of them.
She knew that it would ruin the show-mare’s life, and gave up on her fame and adoration to save Trixie’s.
I am going to find that mare. I need her…
Twilight had been more kind to Trixie by not dueling her than anyone else had ever been to her since her father’s death.
“*sob*P-Please, answer me…”
Twilight couldn’t answer Trixie. She never would.
Plushes don’t talk.
All Trixie wanted was a friend, and Twilight seemed like the only option left for her. She had met the mare only for a few minutes and never had a conversation with her. But she knew that the lavender unicorn was the only one capable of saving her from herself.
“*sob*G-Goodnight…”
The blue mare brought the sharp knife from the table beside the bed and looked to her hoof. It had been the only way she found of sleeping from a few months to now: she would cut herself, and the physical pain would make her forget the loneliness of her own mind.
A single cut, short and not very deep. But the pain was enough to make her forget.
She turned around and warped herself around the fake pony, careful not to stain her coat with blood.
“I will find you. And we will become friends, ok?” Trixie said, her voice cracking from the earlier crying. Feeling safe with the pony under her embrace, she started to drift to sleep.
“I promise, tomorrow I will take the first step and we will meet. I will find you, my love…”
