Nightmare's Normal Night

     "And you shall be defeated by the ELEMENTS OF HARMONY!" A white alicorn shouted. A black pony and white pony were currently circling each other in the air. Both shot spells, but the black alicorn named Nightmare Moon had the upper hoof. A missile spell accidently knocked the white pony to the ground, but she quickly regained her posture.The white pony Celestia was starting to get tired while Nightmare Moon still had the strength from the first day.

     For three days strait, Celestia was fighting her own sister. Now she had to go to her last resort; the Elements of Harmony. A giant rainbow streaked out of her horn transforming into a rainbow.The rainbow tornado circled around Nightmare Moon as she tried to claw her way out of it.

     "What? NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The tornado bit and stung all over Nightmare Moon's body as she shrank down into the ground. The spell dissipated when the black alicorn's body was completely gone. Celestia wiped her brow. "Phew... It's finally over..."

     The moon was very lovely that night. Ponies from all over Equestria watched a miraculous phenomenon. The moon was in the sky for about three days, just when they thought the night would last forever, the moon started sinking. Just before it was out of sight, a giant rainbow tornado appeared on the top of the moon. The ponies who watched the battle between Celestia and Nightmare Moon quickly rushed to their families to bring the good news.

     Every unicorn, pegasus, and earth pony everywhere were rejoicing that Nightmare's tyranny was over. Just as soon, they created two celebrations, the Summer Sun celebration for Celestia winning, and Nightmare Night to mock NMM.

     Unfortunately, the rainbow on the moon was Nightmare Moon. When NMM opened her eyes, she was met with a beautiful black sky. 'Yes! I won and the Elements didn't work! Now the night shall really last forever.' NMM thought to herself. She stood up to get a better view of her surroundings. Nightmare's eyes nearly bulged out of her head; in front of her, was Equestria. Not the map, but the actual planet.

     Suddenly the ground beneath her hooves started shuddering. She was on the moon! Was Celestia destroying it? NMM rushed to a tall rocky spiral and held on to it for dear life. When the shuddering stopped, Nightmare saw the sun high in space. 'It appears that the Elements of Harmony placed me on my moon. No problem, I should be able to teleport back to Equestria.'

     The starry maned alicorn flew into the air to prepare the teleportation spell. When she channeled the magic through her horn and waited for the bright flash of light that always took her to Canterlot, nothing happened. "Ugh, am I too weak for long distance travels?" NMM paused for a moment, "Am I actually talking to myself? A princess should never talk to herself."

     She floated right back to the ground. Right next to the rocky spiral was a note. And it was from Celestia! As NMM continued to read the note, her frown worsened. By the time she finished reading she sent a flame pillar to consume it. "HOW DARE CELESTIA SENDS ME TO THE MOON FOR 1000 YEARS! Oh," Nightmare pranced around the ground in a mocking tone. "Oh, she says she is sooooooooo sorry. SHE WAS THE ONE THAT TURNED ME INTO THIS MONSTER!"

DAY 5 YEAR 1

    Nightmare Moon was lonely. Not a 'oh no I'm left alone in the house for half a day' lonely. It was 'I'm living in a world alone without anyone to love me' lonely. A lot was going through her mind right now, such as 'Why am I still alive? Why can I breath? How am I not hungry?' and more importantly, 'How will I survive these 1000 years?'

Day 7 YEAR 1

     "ARRRRRG! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!" Nightmare Moon was running around on the moon aimesly for days. She would never forgive Celestia, never. Celestia would never even care if Nightmare killed herself. Maybe everypony would be happy.

Day 9 YEAR 1

     "AHA!" For the past two days, Nightmare Moon was sharpening a rock. Not any kind of rock, a dagger rock. Maybe if she died she would be free from the moon. "Goodbye cruel moon." The rock went in her heart quickly and silently. NMM crumpled to the floor, with a smile on her face.

Day 10 YEAR 1

     Nightmare Moon woke up groaning. Was it all a dream? After all, she slept little on the moon. Her blurred vision cleared to a barren wasteland. NMM held her head crying. Why must Celestia do this to her? Nightmare always hated being immortal. Not only did she never age, she couldn't be killed by a sharpened rock to the heart. Maybey exploring her prison would take her mind off some things.

Day 321 YEAR 7

     "Okay," Nightmare Moon panted. "I officially explored all of my moon." There were x's dug into the ground scattered all over the place. Right next to her was a giant stone slab marked with slashes. Just about 20 days ago she gave up marking the slab everyday because that's a lot of marks for 1000 years. So now it just had years.

     "He... He, I'm calling it a MOON CALENDER!" NMM broke down in hysterics. She looked around her land. "I want some friends."

Day 323 YEAR 7

     "You'll be my friend... Won't you? I know! I'll call you Skippy." The rock bear stood motionless. "Skippy, I love you! Your the bestest friend I ever had." Nightmare Moon held Skippy up as she put him up to her ear. "What's this you say?"

     "I love you too 'Oh heavenly Night Goddess.'" Skippy squeaked.

     "Oh Skippy, you are too kind. But please don't be so serious, after all, this is my domain, and I am queen."

     "If your queen, you need subjects. I'll be your royal advisor."

     NMM chuckled. "I knew I could count on you."

Day 148 YEAR 14

     "All hail Nightmare Moon!" Over 9000 stone bears squealed.

     "YES!!! I will rule you all, with my eternal night. You will worship my moon and shun the accursed sun... OR ELSE!" NMM bellowed.

     "Yes your majesty."

     "But first... we must build our kingdom. Out of the ashes of Celestia's kingdom comes ours. We will call it... the Lunar Empire."

Day 4 YEAR 112

     Since the dragon-eyed alicorn couldn't exactly speak to Celestia about her banishment, NMM would write to her. For 98 years, she wrote a message by dragging her dagger across the moon, big enough for Celestia to see.

     Celestia was doing her morning rounds around the Canterlot Garden. Since Luna turned into Nightmare Moon, Celestia had to take it upon herself to raise the moon as well as the sun. After checking that Discord was still stuck in stone, the white alicorn flew up into the sky to raise the moon.

     Gasping in surprise, Celestia nearly dropped the moon after seeing the message. This was a new low for Nightmare Moon. Written on the lower left hand side was, "Down with Celestia! Anarchy! When I am free, the night shall last forever! Ponies, keep your windows and doors locked. Ps, when am I free? I lost track." The rainbow maned pony sighed. She used her magic to wipe the message off the moon. Hopefully, the message didn't worry anypony. If anything went wrong, her little ponies would go into full blown panic.

Day 84 YEAR 329

     "Finally, my loyal subjects, our homeland is complete." Scattered across the rocky ground were tiny stone huts. Looming over the distance was a giant castle that looked like the same one in Canterlot. Nightmare Moon also spent a little more time shaping the stone bears into stone ponies. "All shall grow and prosper under my beautiful night."

Day 4 YEAR 354

     "AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" The armored princess was flying around her castle shooting missile spells at her village and subjects. "DIE DIE DIE ALL OF YOU!" The stone ponies that weren't broken or dying we're whimpering, "Why Nightmare Moon? Why?"

     She paused for a moment before continuing her rant. "WHY? I SAW YOU ALL STARING AT THE SUN SMILING, THAT'S WHY! I'm the only one you should love, not that snooty Celestia." She spoke that last word with pure venom. It just wasn't fair! NMM galloped to a stone structure resembling a poorly carved Celestia that NMM secretly built. "AHA! You have arrived to my land." Nightmare bent low ready to strike. "Now the death shall be doubled!" Stonelestia's head crumbled beneath her hoof as the insane alicorn cackled. "If I defeated Celestia...then why am I still here?" She grabbed a legless Skippy. "I want to go home..."

Day 10 YEAR 354

     All that was left of the fake village was smoldering remains and the recently created Lunar Empire in ruins. The only ones still alive on the moon were Nightmare Moon and Skippy. After watching the sun move daily across the sky, then hers, Skippy spoke up. "Uhhh... Nightmare? I know I'm supposed to be your friend and companion, but I can't do it anymore. Your scaring me way to much, and I think if I make one false move... you'll crush me into oblivion. I'm going to commit suicide right now." Skippy flew out of her grasp and into the air.

     "Nooooooooooooooo!" Nightmare moaned. At the same time Skippy was singing. "Wheeeeeeeee!" He tumbled for a couple of feet before resting quietly, half submerged in moon dust.

     "Skippy? Skippy! Are you okay? Please speak to me!" Nightmare ran to Skippy and shook his shoulders. His eyes opened up a bit before breathing a couple of words.

     "Your parents... are... dead... and nobody... loves... you." His eyes rolled a little in the back of his head before falling silent.

     "That... wa-was never tr-true!"

Day 10 YEAR 355

     Today was the one year anniversary of Skippy's death.To honor him, she carved an image into his gravestone, Nightmare Moon and Skippy. She really missed him, so she sang a ballad.

"I'm so sorry Skippy, so foolish of me...

To grow jealous and again and violence it out.

I killed you and many many others,

I just want to say... I'm so so SORRY!!!"

     She sang the song for many more hours before crying herself asleep. This time there was no one to comfort her. NMM's tears kept piling until forming a large puddle underneath her head.

Day 11 YEAR 355

     Nightmare Moon awoke to her face staring at her. Those eyes... oh those blue merciless eyes... NMM managed to choke a couple of gasps as the face continued to stare at her. The gasps slowly turned into screams as she punched the ground. "I... I..."

     "What? I am a baby? Am I a pitiful foal that is crying all the time?" Another face stared back. "You can't even face the fact that you have to be here? You can't even wait just another 645 more years? Oh yeah... you can't. Even as Princess Luna, you always wanted attention. What you wanted most turned you into me, and your mind is slowly crumbling, and you know it."

     "No... what I wanted to say was... I HATE YOU!!!!" With that, all the anger left her. The snarling face in the puddle also disappeared. "I'm still going to try to get home. I wont give up. For Skippy."

Day 299 YEAR 473

     Nightmare Moon paused for a break during her recent escape. About 473 years ago, she had heard of ponies called trollers. They were known for breaking physics and just being a nuisance. Just right after becoming a tyrant, she was thinking of getting rid of them. She hated their sneers, their lost cause to ponydom, and ESPECIALLY the "LOL U MAD BRO?" Now, their techniques were in hoof.

     Today she was going to slingshot to Equestria using gravity. Saying that a normal pony would fall at 18 m/s squared, and that she was already a alicorn, so she is twice the size of a normal pony, digging a tunnel through the entire moon would force her to rocket to Equestria. If the gravity wasn't strong enough, she would use her wings as well, but she would be less aero-dynamic. NMM was already 1/4 through, hopefully she could make it back at least 100 years before the end of her sentence.

Day 10 YEAR 553

     Oh boy. Again it was Skippy's deathversity, but this time it is the hundredth year of his death. Nightmare was currently still digging her escape tunnel, but another project she was working on was building a statue of Skippy. It was 40 times his original size; big enough for her to rest on comfortably. While Skippy was crudely carved, the new Skippy was perfect to every detail. While Nightmare Moon walked away for a little to take a dump, the statue spoke,"I have returned, my mistress."

     "SKIPPY!!!"

     NMM went into full blown gallop as she hugged the enormous rock. "My soul... It as well couldn't leave the moon... so it was transferred to this rock."

     "Thank you for coming back. But quick!" Nightmare yelled. "Help me dig this tunnel." She gestured towards a giant hole in the ground. Both rock and pony jumped into the hole and dug as fast as she could.

Day 181 YEAR 600

     "Huff... puff... We're almost there Skippy. Just a couple more hundred yards." NMM and Skippy were digging through the ground as fast as they could. (But NMM was doing most of the work.) The moon suddenly started rumbling again. "NO! Not right now Celestia! The tremors are going to cause-" As soon as she said those words, moon dust started raining down. "RUN!"

     Nightmare Moon was dragging Skippy (because he couldn't fly) as the entrance hole got smaller and smaller. She erupted from the hole as soon as the hole collapsed, ripping off half of her sparkling tail and trapping her arms. Skippy! He was still in her arms!

     She tried pulling him up, but it was no use, he was too heavy. It was either being trapped for 400 more years, or letting go.

Day 304 YEAR 603

     "Skippy, you're getting too heavy." With each passing day, it felt like she was holding another 20 pounds. "I don't think I can hold on much longer."

     "Please Nightmare Moon, just let go." As she did, his yells became further and further, before disappearing completely. She just didn't have the strength to create any more friend. Maybe a new escape plan will pop up.

Day 127 YEAR 734

     "Okay, just light up the rock candles...and perfect!" If NMM couldn't get to Equestria by herself, she would have someone to help her. Someone...powerful. The Satan's Star glowed a blood red, before immediately fading. "Wha? What did I do wrong? Did it work?"

     Celestia was sitting on her throne, sipping a cup of tea until a messenger rushed into the grand room. "Your Majesty! Something terrible has happened!"

     "What is it Sparkling Hooves? Did NMM try to come back?"

     "Umm... no... you better check for yourself." Celestia jumped from her position and looked out the window. "Hang on a sec. I have to deal with Cthulhu."

Day 233 YEAR 899

     "I'm coming Celestia!" Amazing how the black alicorn didn't think of this plan sooner. She could survive the vacuum of space, so obviously she could fly her way to Equestria, right? Each year, the green and blue planet grew bigger, and at some point gravity would take hold bring NMM home. She felt a pull at her sides. "YES! BWA HA HA!"

     NMM just couldn't give up. Sighing, Celestia walked outside the palace to see a giant black blob rocketing towards her. "What does it take for you to stay put?" Just as soon as NMM was about 2000 meters away from the white alicorn, a golden glow enveloped her and threw her into space. "ARRRRRRGGGG!"

     "NMM blasts off again!" Nightmare Moon's face now met with the moon. "What does it take for a mare to get home? Guess I have to wait it out...or...never mind that."

Day 365 YEAR 1000

     By 50 years prior. Nightmare Moon lost completely all hope and genius plans of escaping her prison. She laid on the ground; her hoof drawing circles in the ground. She groggily glanced to her beat up moon clock. Wait. Is this the 1000 year?! And the last day?! NMM prayed to the stars as fast as she could, many times over. A golden glow wrapped around her as she cheered. 'At least I'm coming home.'

     She landed softly on the ground. Smelling the flower field, she paused to glance at the rising sun. It was over. Her punishment was over. No more 1000 being alone on the moon. She was going to miss Skippy though. But first... she had to get revenge on Celestia.
