1 Pilot
"This is a beautiful day. The clouds are out, it's a ball-biting 45 degrees outside," Said Bass Tabs, slightly giggling at his own joke. He is a a Pegasus pony who is a little bit smaller than average. Jet black coat, yet a light grey mane. The reason he had liked it being cold outside is because he had gotten an old navy p-coat from a thrift shop. It fits him perfectly. Bass also wears a base-ball cap, usually with a brand he likes labelled on it, and headphones. Music was a huge part of Bass' life because he was going to college for musical theory. Though not the most respected course, he got a full ride scholarship, which did earn him some respect. But not from most, not until they heard him play an instrument, at least.
He sometimes talked to himself because he was lonely, and he liked it. He was made fun of as a child for it, yet little did the antagonists know they made him feel better and more powerful. Bass had always loved the feeling of being in an argument, knowing he will win every one of them. None of the bullies knew what kind of logic he could throw at them, even though logic might not help in a fist fight, it can get you out of tight situations. Bass had also had an immense amount of stupid seep into his life before-hoof, he treasured that knowledge so he could deal with it when it came along again.
It feels colder than it actually is because it's just getting out of summer. The best part was, it is still dark. It is about 6:30 in the morning and Bass was walking to the local cafe on campus for some tea. Bass never liked coffee because he thought it was to strong to drink when you're tired. Breakfast Tea with honey, sugar, and sometimes milk was his favorite morning drink (I'd seriously recommend trying it) because it made you wake up, but you weren't all over the place like a spaz.
I was walking down the road when I saw someone he thought I had recognized, but quickly shoved the idea of having "friends" out of my head. I opened the doors to the cafe and there is a mare standing happily at the cash register. There are about 3 people in the cafe, not really wanting to count them because he needed his morning pick-me-up, yet needing to figure out his surroundings just in case something happened. (I guess you could say he's paranoid, or just needing to run through every single thought in his head at once)
"One large tea with honey and sugar, please," Bass had mumbled.
"O.K., that will be 5 bits please," The cashier said gloomily. Knowing what he gets because he's a regular, even though she couldn't hear him.
"Thank you," The pony had been wondering why she would look happy and sound so gloomy.
"Nice cap you got there"
"Thanks, you like their music?" Bass was wearing a hat that said, 'The Beatles' in white on the black hat.
"Yes, I really like 'Yellow Submarine' and 'Twist and Shout'!" Bass was really hoping for her to not be one of those hipsters who only listen to them because they're old or something like that, you can't fix stupid. (going to be using 'you can't fix stupid' as kind of like a sub-plot of this story)
"Do you like 'Yesterday'"
"What about yesterday? Did another pony commit a triple murder or something?"
"Just what I had thought. Do you like 'Eleanor Rigby' or 'Glass Onion'?" Honestly thinking of the most random song names that he could bring up in his mind.
"That one guy from that cartoony tv show?" I'm loosing faith in this world.
"Thanks for your time, keep the change," handing her 6 bits out of his coat pockets.
"Wait! You still didn't tell me what happened yesterday!" About to loose my mind from all the stupidity, I walk out the door to find out i was in there for 15 minutes, wasting my time with that mare who probably wanted to get together, bang me, and drop the relationship.
I Looked up at the clock tower to see a unicorn standing at the top, with an anticipation of coming down, and fast!
I sprinted over and started flapping my wings, hoping to get over the crowd without spilling my tea. Not because I didn't want it to fall, I just didn't want to burn many innocent people. Almost half-way up, I notice people yelling at me to not go any higher, I may cause him to jump. I start to fly away from the tower yet still gaining altitude.
I scream, "HEY! WANT SOME TEA?" waving it up in my hand, spilling some on my jacket. "Shit, i just got this cleaned!" smooth dude, real smooth. I took off my headphones (over ear, not because they're cooler, it's because they're the only kind that will fit on my head) with my free hoof and started to fly towards him slowly.
"Stop, or I'll jump!" His voice was unsteady, yet stern. "No thanks on the tea, I don't want you to waste it on me," slowly lowering the loudness of his voice, and also himself, he lay down on the rooftop, head in his hooves.
"Do you mind if I come over? My wings are getting tired," Bass said, panting.
"Go to the roof next to mine!" There was a bit of anger, sorrow, and hatred in that sentence, kind of like an angry birthday cake.
"O.K., Can we talk some? I....."
"NO!!! We aren't talking about this!" Also like an angry birthday cake.
"You didn't let me finish," Bass was having a grin come up on his face, he was becoming irritated, the more irritated he became, the more smarterer and high-functioning-sociopath he became. "I just want to talk, I haven't had a legitimate conversation with an intelligent pony yet today!" Bass said, giggling again after he landed on the rooftop.
"Don't talk to me like that!" a pony screamed from below, Bass looking down, noticed there were at least 100-150 ponies down there.
"ALL OF YOU GO AWAY!"
"ALL OF YOU GO AWAY!" Bass had yelled almost the same time, but just a moment before the unicorn stallion. "Why do you want to help me, and what's your name?" A little less angry cake like.
"I SAID GO AWAY!" This time, Bass' words echoed throughout the square. Not knowing he could be so powerful, most of the ponies went away but a few remained. They were all afraid of that voice.
~ Bass had heard his father use that voice once before, that was when Bass was little and his little brother had been swimming in the river with his friends (and not Bass) after they were told not to because of all the water from the rain that had come from the previous storms. Bass' little brother had drown with all but 3 out of 6 of his friends. It was never spoken of again.~
The unicorn stallion started walking over to Bass, jumping over rooftops to get to him. Not many ponies were still there to see this, but most of them were reporters that were left.
The sentence was repeated again, "Who are you, and why do you want to help me?" A bit of holy-shit-that-was-scary birthday cake in that sentence. Probably dazed from the shout.
Bass turned to his right to see the unicorn hobbling up the side of the roof. Bass had a piece of that, 'holy-shit-that-was-scary birthday cake' and almost fell off the roof. "I'm Bass, and because I've seen what happens to the people that are close to you when you are suddenly taken from them,"
"What happens?" Bass can make out what he looks like now. He is a pale-blue unicorn with triplet eighth notes on his flank.
"Their world falls apart slowly and more painfully than yours did, and just so you know, it's mostly the people who think they caused it and the people who were close to you,"
"I'm Triplet, and no, i am not triplets with anyone,"
"Want my tea?"
"No thanks,"
"It's full accept for the stuff i spilled all over my jacket, I didn't drink out of it, and I need to go get my jacket cleaned again,"
"Thank you, I really need something to warm me up!"
"Also, take my coat," He was wondering why he just changed his mind so easily.....
"No, I can't"
"I love the feeling of cold,"
"Why?"
"People love what they are most familiar with,"
"That explains a lot of things" he said, taking my jacket as I hand it to him. My headphones are still plugged in so my phone slides out of my pocket and onto the roof, quickly sliding down the dew-dampened roof. I caught it just before it fell. I was wearing a polo shirt and pants underneath so i put my phone in my pants pocket. "Nice bow tie,"
"Thanks,"
"Trying to impress some mare?" he asked winking.
"Why try to impress someone else when you can't even impress yourself?" (That is one of the deepest things I have ever came up with)
"Why can't you impress yourself?"
"Insert non sexual thing here" This comment made him laugh, and I have to admit it was a bit childish, but all in good fun.
"But seriously though, a bow tie?"
"I wear a bow tie, bow ties are cool, If you need anything from me, just tap me on the shoulder, do you want to listen, too?"
"No man, I appreciate the offer though," There was a person we both saw standing down there, trying to take a picture with a tablet.
"Do you see the person down there?" I said, taking off my headphones.
"Who?"
"The one with a tablet, using it as a camera,"
A small laugh and a slice of 'smiles-and-happy-ponies cake' Triplet said, "I always thought that was funny, why not just buy a camera?"
"Remember these words,"
"What words?"
"You can't fix stupid,"
"Amen," Treble let out a little sigh and he lie down next to me. "I'm out of tea,"
"If you wanna keep warm, we can go inside somewhere for some tea and possibly breakfast,"
"Can we stay here longer? I like the quiet. I know it isn't perfect quiet, but it's close,"
"Sure, I don't mind,"
I pull my headphones up to my ears and play my music.
The entire world goes silent as I turn up the music, it is as if I'm in my own sanctuary. I like music being my sanctuary because I can set it up wherever I need. I slowly close my eyes and start to imagine what it's like to have a friend, I didn't imagine they'd be this nice. I just hope it doesn't escalate from here. I fall asleep right next to him, both of us huddled together for warmth.
