I hate trains. I've just decided that. This is the first train I've been on and I already hate it.
Bevel sits staring out the window with a bored expression on his face as the train rolls out of the small town of Ponyville. He had been on the train since it had departed from Manehatten the day before and was ready to be off it.
"Now leaving Ponyville station. Next stop is Canterlot station." The conductor announced over the intercom.
Finally! I'm already late as it is. Hopefully it doesn't take long to get there.
"The estimated arrival time is 3 and a half hours." The conductor states.
Well. So much for meeting my advisor today. I guess I'll have to talk to him tomorrow.
Bevel turns and gets his bag. He pulls out a notebook and opens it. The pages are filled with sketches and various scribbles. He flips through and takes a printed sheet out. The top has the words 'Canterlot University' printed on it above the school logo, a shield with the cutie marks of Luna and Celestia on it. Underneath is printed 'Bevel, Art Major, Advisor: Split Narcius, Dorm 303'. Bevel sighs deeply and puts the paper back.
Split Narcius... Isn't that the stallion who donated for the new wing for the Canterlot Museum of Art? Neat.
Bevel stares out the window and watches the train enter a tunnel. The train goes dark and he hears an 'Oops!' and a thud. When the train exits the tunnel he sees a tall light blue mare with dark blue hair and a black beret sprawled out on the floor surrounded by painting supplies. Bevel stands and helps her up.
"Are you okay?" Bevel asks.
"Y-yea. I got startled when the train went dark." She answers as she quickly gathers the supplies and shoves them into a bag. Bevel reaches for a paintbrush but she quickly snatches it. "I-I've got it! Thank you. Goodbye!" She quickly shoves everything in her bag and runs out of the train car.
Well then. A bit rude.
Bevel sits back down in his seat and looks back out the window. He stares at the mountains passing and feels himself dozing off. After a couple of minutes he falls asleep. He is woken up later by the conductor speaking on the intercom.
"Now approaching Canterlot station. Please stay seated until the train comes to a complete stop." The conductor states.
Bevel stretches and yawns as he waits for the train to stop. When it does he gets his bags and gets off the train. He looks around and sees the mare from earlier hurrying off the train. She runs off and drops a box from her saddlebags without noticing. Bevel walks over and picks it up. He looks around for the mare but doesn't see her.
Maybe I'll run into her on the way to the campus.
He puts the box in his bag and sets off. He walks for a while and ends up at the city gates. He looks around and sighs in defeat.
I'm lost. Nice. This is going to be one hell of a semester...
He sits on a nearby bench and looks around. The streets are completely deserted. Bevel reaches into his bag for a sandwich but realizes he is out. He groans and closes his bag. As he sits and wonders what he's going to do he hears the sound of a pony walking down the street. He looks up and sees two pegasus stallions walking down the street. One is green with a red and blue mane and the other is blue with a white mane. The green stallion has his wing around the blue stallion and they are talking as they walk. They see Bevel and quiet as they pass.
I wonder if they're... Together.
"Ummmm... Excuse me. Can I get directions to Canterlot University?" Bevel asks.
"Oh, are you a student at the university?" The green stallion asks.
"Yes. I got in late on the train and was trying to find my way to the campus but I got completely lost. I've never been in Canterlot before." Bevel answers.
"Ahh! Well we're both professors at the University. I'm Split and this is Chambers." The green stallion says.
"Oh! You're my advisor! I'm Bevel."
"Are you now. I was wondering where you were. Well we were just going to watch the moon, but we'll take you to the dorms." Split says.
Bevel stands. "Thank you so so much!"
"Our pleasure." Split says.
The two lead Bevel to a large gate with the school emblem on it. There are lights on in the main building and voices float across the grounds.
"Isn't it a bit late for classes?" Bevel asks.
"Some ponies prefer to go to night classes, so Princess Luna oversees them. We have teachers who teach the classes and our night classes are just as good as our day classes." Chambers answers.
The two lead Bevel through the grounds and several ponies greet the two. Eventually the three arrive at a tall building. Some lights are on and in the lobby there are several ponies milling around.
"Here you go! I assume you'll be coming by tomorrow to talk to me?" Split asks.
"I will. Thank you again sirs!" Bevel responds.
"It's no problem." Chambers says and the two leave.
Well at least I didn't get chewed out for being late.
Bevel walks into the lobby and walks up the stairs to the third floor. He finds room 303 and opens the door. Sheets of paper blow out the door and one smacks him in the face. He pulls it off and looks at it. There are some unitelligable words scribbled on it. Bevel steps into the room and sees a brown stallion with yellow hair climbing in the window. They stop and look at each other.
Am I seriously being robbed already?
"Uhhhh... Hi." Bevel says.
"'Sup." The stallion answers as he lands inside.
"I'm Bevel. I think this is my dorm."
"Yup! I'm Tensen, your roommate!" Tensen says as he shuts the window and gathers the papers.
Bevel steps inside the room and shuts the door. "Nice to meet you."
Tensen piles his papers on his bed and walks over to shake Bevels hoof. "Are you a day or night student?"
"Well until a few minutes ago I didn't know there were night classes." Bevel answers.
"I'm a night student myself. I was just coming back for my notebook. There's a beautiful full moon out tonight and I feel inspired!" Tensen grabs a notebook, quill, and inkpot and shoves them into his bag.
"It is pretty nice out." Bevel answers.
"Well I'm headed out. There's stuff to be written!" Tensen says with a grin.
Ten bits says he peeks in windows.
"I guess I'll see you around then." Bevel says with a half hearted smile.
"Well you don't have much of a choice!" Tensen says with a laugh as he opens the window and soars out. The papers are again scattered through the room. Bevel sighs and clears them off his bed. He turns off the lights and climbs into bed.
I think this is going to be an interesting semester. But at least it's something new!
Bevel smiles to himself and turns over. He quickly falls asleep.
