The Animal Cannon
“But Twilight...” Pinkie Pie pleaded before letting out a sneeze followed by a cough.
“No buts Pinkie!” Twilight said, stomping. “The doctor said you have to rest for the day and let the medicine do its job. I’m sorry for the magical bindings but I just want you to get well as soon as possible.”
“But...” Pinkie repeated before sneezing again as she struggled against the lavender binds that held her to her bed.
“Now I gotta go check up on Spike at the library. I’ll be back later to check up on you. Bye Pinkie.”
With that Twilight left the pink party mare alone. The door closed behind her and a look of fear was clear on Pinkie’s face.
“If it can’t use me… It will find another.” She said to the empty room before letting out a series of sneezes and coughs.
“Please move Mr. Badger, the chickens need to come out of their coop for the day.” Fluttershy pleaded.
Mr. Badger looked up at Fluttershy, let out a yawn, then laid his head back down to sleep. Mr. Badger had taken a liking to taking naps in front of the chicken coop door. Fluttershy had learned to stop asking the badger why he did what he did as he only responded with “I don’t care” when Fluttershy would ask. Normally she would have just shaken her head and continued on but the chickens were still stuck in their coop, and with no water would surely perish in the coop during the heat of the day.
“Don’t fall asleep Mr. Badger, the chickens will-” Fluttershy said continuing her pleading before suddenly stopping and closing her eyes.
She felt something hit her, like a shock of electricity jolted through her as her body started to become all tingly and her fur started to stand. The feeling left as soon as it came, and when she opened her eyes they were blue.
“Alright Mr. Badger, I guess I’ll just have to make you move.” She said as she grabbed the badger by his tail and threw him into the air. Surprisingly the badger kept his same carefree attitude, he truly didn’t care about anything. As the badger fell, Fluttershy, with a crazed smile across her face, pulled out what looked like a brown cannon out of thin air and used it to catch Mr. Badger. Once the badger was in the cannon Fluttershy aimed it over the sky above the Everfree.
“GO SLEEP IN NEW JERSEY!” She yelled and pulled the trigger.
Mr. Badger went flying out of the cannon and disappeared over the horizon, oddly enough still asleep. After the cannon fired Fluttershy felt that weird snape of energy hit her again causing her to blink. She opened her eyes and they were green again.
“What… did i just...” said looking out into the sky in confusion and horror, “why would I-”
She stopped in mid sentence and looked like she was staring into the sky. All there was was blue skies with a few clouds here and there. Yet she saw something else, something that made her pupils shrink as she let out a scared gasp.
“No… no… TWILIGHT!!!” She yelled as she ran off in the direction of the Ponyville library.
“Alright Spike, just two more books to go,” Twilight said as she started levitating books up to be put onto the shelves.
“Sorry I didn’t get it done before you got back,” Spike said looking down at the ground sadly.
“Don’t beat yourself over it Spike, You're not tall enough to reach the top shelves anyway,” Twilight said.
“I guess you're right, it’s just that-”
“No… no… TWILIGHT!!!” Fluttershy yelled as she ran passed the two in the library before running into a bookshelf, causing all the books to fall on top of her.
“Was that Fluttershy?” Spike asked pointing at the pile of books.
“I think so, but how did she get in?” Twilight said as she approached the pile of which Fluttershy was buried under, “The door never opened and the windows are closed.”
As they got closer to the pile Fluttershy popped her head out and spat out a book that was in her mouth.
“Twilight! Thank goodness I found you,” Fluttershy said excitedly as she continued to dig herself out of the pile of books, ”Something weird is going on with me. First Mr. Badger was sleeping in front of the coop, you know how he can be. Anyway I was trying to convince him to move when I got a weird feeling, like shock, then it was like I lost control of myself and loaded him into a cannon and fired him over the Everfree. Then -”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down a little Fluttershy. You sound like Pinkie speaking that fast,” Twilight said.
“Did you say you loaded a badger in a cannon and fired him?” Spike asked.
“Oh It was just awful. I didn’t mean to but it was like I had no control over my actions, but it was what happened afterwards. I saw them! Well I think it was them.”
“Who?” Twilight asked.
“Well you know how Pinkie Pie goes on about an audience that is constantly watching us… I think… I think I saw them. Twilight something weird is happening to me and-” Fluttershy was interrupted by the strange energy as it hit her again.
Twilight and Spike let out a startled gasp as they saw Fluttershy’s hair quickly stand and fall along with the changing of Fluttershy's eyes as they turned blue once more. Fluttershy’s mood changed from scared to crazed as a wicked smile crossed her face.
“And Ponyville is dangerously low on cute critters running around!” She said as she ran out of the library with a cannon on her back that had just appeared out of thin air.
Twilight and Spike could only watch in shock, mouths agape, as they watched their friend leave after Fluttershy’s sudden transformation. A minute later Spike broke the silence that was left after Fluttershy’s leave.
“... I’ll get a letter written.”
“More birds for the sky!” Fluttershy shouted as she pointed the cannon skywards and fired. Out came a flock of cardinals and blue jays soaring through the air.
“Cheerilee needs a cat for the school!” Fluttershy said before letting out a cackling laugh.
A cat came out of the mouth of the cannon that flew over the heads of the town ponies before passing through the open window of the school house and landing perfectly on Ms. Cheerilee’s desk. The chorus of cheers belonging to young colts and fillies could be heard coming from the schoolhouse.
“More squirrels for the park!”
“A dog for Bon-Bon!”
“A wallaby because Ponyville doesn’t have one!”
The ponies watched as Fluttershy continued to fire animals out of the cannon she carried, and wondered if they should ask her why or how she was shooting animals all over town.
“And lastly a -” Fluttershy stopped as she was about to pull the trigger to the cannon and looked behind her. Her tail was moving up and down in a smooth motion making it look like a flag caught in the wind.
“Flappy tail? What does that-”
Fluttershy was stopped as she felt the energy shock coarse through her and she became herself again.
“O my, what, what am I doing?” She said as she looked around. Animals of all kinds littered the roads of Ponyville, some she had never seen before, “did I do all this?”
“Fluttershy!” Spike yelled running up to her, panting.
“Spike!”
“Twilight thinks she knows what’s happening with you. Follow me.”
“O...ok.” Fluttershy said as she followed Spike to Sugarcube Corner.
Twilight was next to Pinkie who was still bound to the bed. Pinkie was still sneezing and coughing from her illness.
“Pinkie, This doesn’t make sense!” Twilight said giving Pinkie an aggravated look.
“Just watch.” Pinkie pie said between coughs.
“I don’t get it, what makes you think that?”
“Think what?” Fluttershy said.
“That you will appear here the moment you agree to follow Spike.” Twilight said.
Pinkie Pie started grinning knowing she was right and stared at Twilight. Twilight and Fluttershy gave Pinkie confused looks trying to figure out what had her so happy. A few moments passed before realization hit Twilight.
“Fluttershy!” Twilight shouted as she jumped and turned to face the yellow pegasus.
“Yes?”
“But, you, how, Spike?” Twilight said, her mind on the verge of breaking.
“Fluttershy did you figure it out?” Pinkie asked.
“Yes, it was just after Spike found me and I showed up here. Um… if you don’t mind, can you take it back? It scares me a little.”
“Of course silly, but I can’t till you or Twilight remove these bindings.”
“Pinkie they are for your own-” Twilight stopped stunned at the sight that had just happened before her. Fluttershy walked up to Pinkies bed and tapped the lavender binds with her hoof. As she did the binds disappeared, one of Twilights strongest spells had just been dispelled at the touch of a hoof. Pinkie then jumped out of her bed, as soon as she was on the ground Pinkie’s fur started to rise then fall like Fluttershy’s did earlier at the library.
“There, back where you belong,” Pinkie Pie said happily.
“Oh thank goodness,” Fluttershy said with a sigh of relief.
“But… How did… WHAT!!!” Twilight shouted on the verge of going nuts.
“Silly, it’s the source of my Pinkie sense. Also, I’m not sick anymore.” Pinkie said with a bounce.
“SOURCE! Are you saying that your Pinkie sense has a source that isn’t you?” Twilight asked.
“Yes,” Pinkie and Fluttershy said in unison.
Her eye twitched at the answer, not only did both of them answer at the same time but it also sounded like they both had the same voice. Twilight looked like she was about to boil over as she started to fill with anger at not understanding what was going on. It was short lived however as she quickly regained herself after a few deep breaths.
“No, not worth getting worked up over. You two seem to have things figured out. I’m just going to go find Spike, go back home, and read a book.” Twilight said then left Pinkie’s room.
After Twilight had left the room, Pinkie faced Fluttershy
“Did you tell anypony?”
“No, But does it really have to be a secret? Where the Pinkie sense comes from that is?”
“Only from pony and other Equestrian residents.”
“So the audience is allowed to know that your Pinkie sense is nothing more than what the writer wants to happen?”
“They should already know that.”
Pinkie then stares at you with her blue eyes.
“You did know that? Right?”
