Next stop was the barn of what appeared to be an apple orchard. There, we saw, well, Applejack. She looked at us welcomeingly. “Well, howdy there, sugarcube. Who’s your friend there?” “My name’s Evergreen. I’m new here.” “Nice to meet ya, Evergreen. My name’s Applejack. I reckon Pinkie here wants to throw y’all a party, bein’ new and all” “Yeah. You coming?” “You dog gone betcha.” “Alright, see ya there.” After that, we moved off close to the forest. There was a cottage there, with Fluttershy feeding her animals as usual. “Hi, Fluttershy.” she became startled. “Oh, sorry, Pinkie, you startled me.” her delicate voice nearly made my heart explode. “It’s alright, Fluttershy, this is Evergreen, he’s new here, so I’m gonna throw him a super mondo party. You wanna come?” “Of course I’ll come. It’s nice to meet you, by the way.” “Same, uh...Fluttershy, is it?” She nodded in response. “Alright, I’ll see you at the party, whatever that is.” After that, we stopped at Carousel Boutique. At first, my thoughts were ‘okay, either she wants to get me something nice to wear, or it’s pony #4.’ Luckily, it was the ladder. We walked inside as the most beautiful mare in the world, I mean, Rarity walked up to us. I had a blush warm on my face as she approached. “Why, hello there, Pinkie Pie. Who is this friend of yours? Is he your stalfriend?” “No, silly, this is Evergreen. He’s new here. Evergreen, this is Rarity.” And with that, my brain melted. “Nice to m-meet you, Rarity. You heard of me?” “Yeah, actually. I’m new in town, and Pinkie Pie wanted to invite you to my welcoming party she’s throwing. I’m Evergreen.” “Nice to meet ya. And of course. In my defense, she’s extremely fast and I had no clue where we were going. Chapter 4: Friendship IS MagicIt had been a year since that day. We'd become closer friends than I ever thought imaginable. Then again, being raised in such darkness can blind you to the light. Unfortunately as time went on, I knew it was a matter of time until they found out the truth. Who...and what...I really am... As much as I wished that day would never come, I knew it would, eventually... I just knew deep down they wouldn't trust me. I had taken up a job as a mail pony alongside a pegasus named Derpy Hooves. She always seemed down herself about what people thought about her, so we ended up becoming good friends as well. Aunt Twi was nice enough to let me stay with her until I saved up enough to buy my own house. I remember being there when she became a princess. Other than that, it's been mostly us hanging out, chatting, you know friend stuff. Anyways, one day, exactly one year after, we were having a picnic. We were all just relaxing. Suddenly a startling noise was heard across town. "What was that?" I asked. "I don't know, but we'd better go investigate." Twi replied. With that, they went off towards the noise. All but Fluttershy that is. I looked to her nervously and asked, "You got a bad feeling about this?" she nodded. I responded, "Me too....but we better go with them just be on the safe side." and with that, we flew off after the others. When we got there, I saw something all too familiar. "Ponyville, where is our prince!" said the voice of guess-who, my mother. It looks like she's been looking for me. The other five just glared at her. Fluttershy and I however, hid behind the buildings. It was then I realised she had a changeling army behind her. "Ah, Twilight Sparkle. Perhaps you might know the location of my missing son. If he is not brought to me in ten minutes, my army shall tear apart Ponyville." "I don't know who you're talking about!" "You better figure it out, Princess! The clock is ticking!" I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to reveal myself to the others, but I couldn't just sit there and let my mother destroy the town. This war went on in my head almost the entire minute. That's when I heard, "Time's almost up, now I'll ask one more time, where is my son!?" It was then I mustered up all my courage, flew over the others and landed in front of them, becoming my changeling form and glaring at her. "Right here! You want me? come get me!" then my eyes glared even harder, "I can't let you destroy the town!" I didn't turn around, because I didn't want to see the look of utter betrayal I just knew they had on their faces. I also knew I'd do anything not to lose them, if that means having to go back to that darkness that surrounded my youth, so be it. "Very well. Changelings, bring me your prince, and destroy anypony who gets in your way." With that the army behind her launched themselves at me. It was at that moment I had no idea how to fight. I turned my head with my eyes closed as I readied for impact. Then I realised there wasn't one. I didn't feel anything. I opened my eyes to see what was going on. There was a magical force field surrounding me, and a hoof-full of changelings knocked out in front of me. I was confused. I turned around as the force field dropped and saw Twilight's horn glowing and slowly fading with the force field. Chapter 5: Time to Finish ThisI stood there for a few seconds shocked. Why, after what I'd just done, after knowing what I am, why would she defend me? I had tears running from my eyes as I smiled at her. She smiled back, as did the rest of them. Then I realised what they had realised. It doesn't matter what you are, or where you came from. What matters is we were all friends. While Evergreen may not have been my real name, the friendships I made were real. Then I turned to Chrysalis smirking. "You think you can take me that easily? I have a more powerful magic on my side than you can even begin to fathom! No matter how many changelings you throw at me, no matter how much hate you shrowded me in, you can never win, because while an army may be strong, I've found something here in Ponyville that's even stronger! Friendship!" "Very well, in that case I issue a challenge to you my son-" "I am NOT your son. And I never will be!" "As I was saying! I challenge you to a one-on-one battle! If you can defeat me solo with this friendship, then I'll go back to the hive and leave you here, forever. If I win, then you'll come back with me and live out your whole miserable life following my orders until your destiny calls you to the throne. Oh, and if you don't accept, your so-called friends will be burned to the ground, along with this forsaken town." "Very well, I accept." "No!" I heard from behind me. I turned around to the others. "If I don't she'll kill you. I have to. Even if I do become a slave to my mother, it's a better fate than knowing I just sat idly by and let you all die. You made me see the light in this world that was hidden from me my entire life. And for that I will always be grateful." I looked at them all teary eyed, as they all had tears in their eyes as well. Twilight hugged me with her tears. "Just don't get yourself killed." as she then whispered in my ear, "nephew." I smiled and hugged her back, beginning to tear up myself. My mind just figured she had put the pieces together. "I know she won't kill me. Don't worry. If this is goodbye. I hope you all remember this past year as I will. It was the best year of my life." I let go and turned back to Chrysalis, "As I said I accept your challenge. It's time to finish this." "Then let's!" she replied. With that, we both flew up in the air. Our horns were glowing readying for our attacks. We stopped after getting high enough nopony else would interfere. We charged up our magic as much as we could then fired beams of magic at each other. They collided on their way to their targets. I focused all my energy into it. but I noticed it getting dangerously close. Then I remembered the past year. The fun we all had, how close we all had grown. And I watched the beam collision travel farther and farther from me as it almost reached mother. "No, it can't be! How-" "It's amazing how much good can come from the light, isn't it?" at that moment the beam hit her horn, singing it. Sh began to fall from the impact, but I levitated her so she did not become injured as I flew down and layed her on the ground. I landed and glared at her. "Now, as per our agreement, you are to leave and never return!" She glared at me angrily, then let out a sigh, still angered, she said, "Very well, but first, how was it you were able to overpower me?" "I already told you. I have the magic of friendship on my side. The most powerful magic Equestria has to offer." She slowly stood up and commanded the other changelings to follow her as she returned to the hive.I suddenly felt 6 hugs all reach me at once. I smiled as they cheered for me. I don’t suppose you heard any of that, did ya?...Of course you did….Anyways, I’m Pesticide, though I much prefer the name Evergreen. And as you can see, I am a changeling. Not only that, but the changeling prince. Wait, don’t go, I’m not trying anything. I swear, I’m not like the others. What do I mean? Well, you’ll learn soon enough. In the meantime, would you like some tea? Or maybe a coke? How about some popcorn? No? Well, then. Just take a seat, and relax. For this is my story. It all started many years back, around the time of my birth. Mother was at that wedding in Canterlot, posing as the bride, making the groom none the wiser. Then Twilight & friends showed up, yadda yadda yadda, you should know all this already. Little did they know when she was blasted off, Mother was pregnant with Shining Armor’s foal. That was me. It wasn’t that long ago, but as a changeling, I was born practically the age of 15. Perhaps it was my bloodline that makes me think differently. I could never go through with the missions she sent us on. The others followed their orders out of blind obedience. I, on the other hand, never had the conscience for such a thing.If you’ve seen the show Supernatural I was pretty much Sam, whereas the others were all Dean I eventually became Castiel. How do I know about a show in the human world? Well, let’s just say one of our missions was in the human world. “Earth” I believe you call it. Someone was watching the show, and I decided to sit around for it. It was an interesting show. Anyways, back to the story. One day, about a year afterwards, I couldn’t take it anymore. Chapter 1: The ArrivalThe Changeling Chapter 1 The Arrival Well, since you asked, here’s what happens next. I had flown in to a rather small town. Well then, at the time I had no idea. I knew very little about anything, really. All I knew was how to be a changeling, how to feed off a pony’s love without any effect to it (This was due to the fact that I can’t control it and was looking for an alternative), and who my father is and my family on his side, such as Aunt Twilight and Cadence, my mother-in-law. All I knew were their names because of how ticked mother was at them, she talked about the event that caused my birth all the time. Anyways, I had no clue where they were from, what they looked like, or anything like that, so I went into the town called Ponyville. I was surrounded by ponies who had a smile on their face, and it made me smile. Next thing I knew, I saw a pink earth pony, who we all know as Pinkie Pie. I didn’t know her at the time, so I simply saw her walked up to me looking excited, and said “Hello” “Hi there!” she replied. “Are you new to Ponyville? I know everypony in Ponyville and I’ve never seen you before, so you must be” I almost didn’t comprehend it, she spoke so fast. “Yeah, I am. My name’s Evergreen. I felt an overwhelming amount of joy looking around.at the decorations and all the ponies that were there smiling at me. Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Aunt Twilight. “Well, what do you think?” “It’s amazing. Who knew these party things were so joyful?” “The party hasn’t even started yet.” She lightly kicked a strange object with a flat round object on it, which started spinning as it had something laying on it. Music came out of it. Amazing music. I just felt the urge to dance, as did everypony else. There was a bowl with strange liquid in it. I poured some of it into a glass and took a sip. It was delicious. PrologueThe Changeling Prologue Why is it we must be forced to be what we are? I never wanted to be this. Why couldn’t I have just been normal? Or at least different in a way that everypony else is, just personalities, appendages, cutie marks, and talents. Instead, I have to be one of these...things, these...monsters! Oh, you’re here. I don’t suppose you heard any of that, did ya?...Of course you did….Anyways, I’m Pesticide, though I much prefer the name Evergreen. And as you can see, I am a changeling. Not only that, but the changeling prince. Wait, don’t go, I’m not trying anything. I swear, I’m not like the others. What do I mean? Well, you’ll learn soon enough. In the meantime, would you like some tea? Or maybe a coke? How about some popcorn? No? Well, then. Just take a seat, and relax. For this is my story. It all started many years back, around the time of my birth. Mother was at that wedding in Canterlot, posing as the bride, making the groom none the wiser. Then Twilight & friends showed up, yadda yadda yadda, you should know all this already. Little did they know when she was blasted off, Mother was pregnant with Shining Armor’s foal. That was me. It wasn’t that long ago, but as a changeling, I was born practically the age of 15. Perhaps it was my bloodline that makes me think differently. I could never go through with the missions she sent us on. The others followed their orders out of blind obedience. I, on the other hand, never had the conscience for such a thing.If you’ve seen the show Supernatural I was pretty much Sam, whereas the others were all Dean I eventually became Castiel. How do I know about a show in the human world? Well, let’s just say one of our missions was in the human world. “Earth” I believe you call it. Someone was watching the show, and I decided to sit around for it. It was an interesting show. Anyways, back to the story. One day, about a year afterwards, I couldn’t take it anymore. That night, I flew off. I didn’t care where as long as I got away from there. It was...horrible...to say the least. The worst of it was that I knew my father could never meet me. I mean if your son was a monster, would you love him? Or want him dead? I’m really getting off topic aren’t I? Yeah, I do that a lot. Anyways, I just flew. On the way there, I came up with a…”ponysona” if you will. That’s where Evergreen came from. I was a green pegasus with dark green hair and blue eyes. I hadn’t known what a cutie mark was, so that was out of the question. Best decision I ever made. Why, you ask? Well, now, and here I thought you didn’t trust me.
Chapter 1: The ArrivalThe Changeling Chapter 1 The Arrival Well, since you asked, here’s what happens next. I had flown in to a rather small town. I saw a sign landing. “Welcome to Ponyville” is what it said. Now then, you, as a…”brony” I believe you call yourselves, know about this town and its inhabitants, is that right? Well then, at the time I had no idea. I knew very little about anything, really. All I knew was how to be a changeling, how to feed off a pony’s love without any effect to it (This was due to the fact that I can’t control it and was looking for an alternative), and who my father is and my family on his side, such as Aunt Twilight and Cadence, my mother-in-law. All I knew were their names because of how ticked mother was at them, she talked about the event that caused my birth all the time. Anyways, I had no clue where they were from, what they looked like, or anything like that, so I went into the town called Ponyville. I was surrounded by ponies who had a smile on their face, and it made me smile. Next thing I knew, I saw a pink earth pony, who we all know as Pinkie Pie. I didn’t know her at the time, so I simply saw her walked up to me looking excited, and said “Hello” “Hi there!” she replied. “Are you new to Ponyville? I know everypony in Ponyville and I’ve never seen you before, so you must be” I almost didn’t comprehend it, she spoke so fast. “Yeah, I am. My name’s Evergreen. What’s yours?” “My name’s Pinkamena Diane Pie, but everypony calls me Pinkie Pie” “Nice to meet you, Pinkie.” “I just realized you’ve been here for a whole...2 minutes and I haven’t even thrown you a single party yet.” “A party? What’s that?” “You don’t know? In that case, you have to have one immediately! C’mon, I gotta introduce you to my friends!” and with that, she bounced off with me following. She led me to a giant tree near the center of town. As we got closer, I noticed the tree was a building. Pinkie knocked on the door of said tree building and a purple unicorn answered. Her name was Twilight Sparkle. That’s right, my aunt. “Hey, Twilight. I have somepony for you to meet. Evergreen, this is Twilight Sparkle.” “Nice to meet you Twi-...did you say Twilight Sparkle?” “Why yes, she did. You’re Evergreen, right?” “Y-yeah.” At that moment, I had no clue whether to be happy I had run into family or scared she might find out the truth.
Chapter 3: The PartyThe Changeling Chapter 3 The Party We got there, of course RD won. “Well, looks like I won. As usual.” “Yep. Nice racing, there, Rainbow Dash.” “Thanks, you weren’t too bad, yourself. Well, we’re here.” “I guess so. So what is a party anyway?” “You’ll see.” We walked inside and there were balloons streamers and confetti as far as the eye can see. I felt an overwhelming amount of joy looking around.at the decorations and all the ponies that were there smiling at me. Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Aunt Twilight. “Well, what do you think?” “It’s amazing. Who knew these party things were so joyful?” “The party hasn’t even started yet.” She lightly kicked a strange object with a flat round object on it, which started spinning as it had something laying on it. Music came out of it. Amazing music. I just felt the urge to dance, as did everypony else. There was a bowl with strange liquid in it. I poured some of it into a glass and took a sip. It was delicious. It was the happiest I had ever been. “NOW what do you think?” Pinkie asked me. “This is amazing, Pinkie.” “Thanks, Greeny” “You’re welcome.” Then she bounced off and Twi came up. “Glad you’re enjoying the party, Evergreen.” “Thanks” “So where are you from?” “I...I don’t wanna talk about it. I came here because I couldn’t stand it where I was. Just too much hatred.” “Wow, that sounds really bad.” “It was. I never had any friends. Never had anypony, really.” “Well, you’ll be happy to hear that there isn’t any hatred here.” “That’s good to know.” “Take it from me, the ponies here make great friends.”
