Chapters I walked down the abandoned street, surveying all the empty houses around me. How I ended up on this street, or what the purpose of my arrival at the street was unknown to me, only that I was just there. I was wondering aimlessly down an abandoned street in the middle of god forsaken nowhere, yet I didn’t seem to be bothered in any way.
After about fifteen minutes of silently walking, something finally came into sight. I stared at the unknown object for a few seconds, then identified it to be a weird box about the size of a briefcase. I cautiously approached the box, soon getting close enough to determine it to be made out of a wooden material. I finally reached the box, then crouched down next to it. Running my hand along the top of it, I took note of the smooth quality of the wood, my curiosity slowly building until I gave in. I lifted the cover off the box and peeked inside.
Inside the box, was a pair of simple flight goggles and a scroll. I glanced at the goggles, then grabbed the scroll and opened it. Something was written in a strange language, and was also written in extremely elaborate cursive. Looking closely, I could finally at least decipher the fancy cursive.

I stared at the writing on the paper for a few moments, unable to process what was written on the paper.To me, it looked like someone had used random scrawlings to write a message, only leaving one legible phrase at the end: Celestia. My mind kept drifting to the goggles in the box, and soon I had the goggles in the palm of my hand. They felt cool, and made of a soft, brown rubber material. I carefully observed the goggles for a few seconds, the strange urge to put them on starting to creep into my mind.
I held them up hesitantly for a few moments, then exhaled deeply before placing the goggles on my head and over my eyes. Surprisingly, the goggles fit perfectly fine on my head, and looking through them helped vastly to improve my vision. I looked around the street in awe at the enhanced details for a few moments, until the shape of a strange creature appeared in one of the house windows.
The thing seemed to be equine in nature, with very light blue fur, brilliant green eyes, and a black mane. It stared at few moments, giving me a look of what looked to be neutrality on it’s face before suddenly vanishing. Before I could react, a strange sense of drowsiness fell over me. Seconds later, the world went black, and I passed out.
~~~
The sounds of birds chirping pierced the shroud of darkness that was unconsciousness. I clenched that darkness for a few moments, trying hard to keep it, but the annoying sound of the chirping birds continued to break through my consciousness. Finally giving up, I cracked my eyes open, and looked around.
I was located in the middle of a rather large, grassy field on the edge of a rather dark forest. Looking up, I saw a blue sky with a few puffs of occasional cloud. I took a few moments to collect myself, then breathed out a sigh of relief. “Jesus Christ, that was an incredibly realistic dream!” I said quietly to myself, as I felt myself start to regain wakefulness.
Once I had regained full control over my body, I slowly rose to my feet to stretch my body. However, my legs were quick to give way underneath me, and I fell flat on my face. “Fuck!” I shouted, startled at the sudden give of my legs. I lay there in a crumpled heap for a few moments, then started to get back up when I noticed something rather shocking.
A soft blue muzzle was sticking from my face, almost giving me a heart attack as my eyes locked onto it. I quickly swapped at it with my hand, only to realize something even scarier. My hand was no longer a hand, but a hoof.
I opened my mouth to release a string of curse words, but quickly closed it again. While waking up as a horse was shocking, I knew the stupidest thing to do was to panic. Taking deep breaths, I let myself cool down before getting on all fours. It took a few moments to figure out how to walk with my new horse body, but when I did, I looked at the forest, and spotted a small puddle on the edge of it.
I started sprinting towards it, reaching it a few moments later. Peeking into the pond, I noticed that the equine I had become looked exactly like the one from my dream. I had the same black mane, green eyes, and light blue fur. Looking at my body, I noticed two wings on my back. I extended them experimentally for a few seconds, trying to get a feel for them, then folded them back to my sides.
Adding two and two together, I figured that I had somehow become the horse thing from my dream, and I had been sent to someplace I had no knowledge of. So many questions ran through my head, yet I had so little answers to those questions. I determined that the first thing I should do was move along the forest edge until I came across a landmark of some sort. With my goal set in mind, I breathed out deeply, then started trotting along the forest.
My bare feet were uncomfortably cold on the uneven cobblestone. I was vaguely aware that I was in pajamas, but I was too curious and confused to even think about that. I walked slowly forward, the distance hazy and unclear. I squinted into the distance, though nothing much became sharper.
I resigned myself to walking, taking careful steps forward on the narrow, bumpy road. Not too much time had passed before I spotted an odd little shape laying in the center of the street. I ran to it, hoping that it would lead me to something that could help. I adjusted my glasses, peeking down at the square shape before me. It was a small, simple little box wrapped in brown paper and tied up with twine.
I knelt before the package, hastily pulling the knot on the box apart and tearing away the paper. Inside were two items: the first was a chunky, antique compass. It had amazing weight and what seemed to be perfect accuracy. The back was inscribed with an intricate compass rose that looked almost the same as the one on the front.
The second item was a small piece of parchment rolled up and tied with the same twine as the box was. I pulled that out, setting the goggles back in the cardboard box. I delicately unrolled the letter, smoothing it on my thigh before beginning to read:
I stared at the odd marks on the page, not making heads or tails of them. None of the symbols looked the least bit familiar, and they almost seemed to swirl around in front of. I blinked hard, looking away and sticking the paper back in the box. It had given me a small headache, and I rubbed my temple with two fingers to defuse the pain.
My focus drifted back to the compass. I wrapped my hand around it, the cool metal pressing into my palm. I looked right into the glass, trying to figure out at least which direction I was facing.
With no warning, the compass needle began to spin wildly. I jumped back, tossing the compass in the air and it landed with a light clang a few feet away.
I approached it carefully, watching as the needle searched for something to point at. Eventually, it settled on a point just a touch to the left of the road. I gingerly lifted the compass, feeling a tiny heat on the back instead of the cold of the metal.
After a bit of thought, I resolved to follow the compass and set off to a point in the distance.
The dewy grass seeped between my toes, and I found myself wishing that I was wearing some real clothes. I could just make out the blurry skyline of a small town. The sight filled me with hope and I started to run toward it at full speed.
I skidded to a halt when I realized that the town was completely empty. The houses were no more than empty husks that had once held people. Some of them were boarded up, some weren’t, but all were in a state of horrible disrepair.
My heart sank at the sight. I vaguely remembered a story I had read many years ago about the last girl in the world.
I was starting to get scared when I heard a rustle behind me. I whirled about, turning to face a very strange creature.
It seemed, on the surface, a bit like a horse. At a second glance, however, its proportions were completely out of whack and it seemed to have quite a lot of fluffy fur and an unnaturally shaped mane and tail. Its coat was a deep blue, having brown hair sprouting from her head in a fountain-like design. She smiled for a moment, then vanished completely into thin air.
I was confused and worried that she would jump out somewhere else, but before I could worry long an overwhelming fatigue filled me. I sat down hard on the ground and put my head between my knees, thinking I was going to pass out. I was pretty much right, as a few minutes later I had fallen into a deep sleep.
~~~~~
The first thing I knew was an intense, pounding pain in my head. I barely had the energy to move my hand to my temple and rub it, but I managed. My eyes were still closed, but I felt an oddly hard surface scrape against my head.
I attempted to open my eyes, but harsh sunlight wanted me to keep them closed. I rolled onto my side, burying my face in the grass before pushing myself up off the ground with my arms. I breathed out hard, feeling powerful aches in almost all of my joints. I opened my eyes a tiny crack, allowing only a small sliver of light to reach my eyes. I groaned a bit, trying to get a good footing in the slippery grass and stand up.
I managed to get some sort of balance very briefly, but tumbled over backwards before I could take a single step.
An odd little face was staring down at me. “Are you okay?” it asked, but the face was so fuzzy I couldn’t make anything out except an unnatural green color.
“Huh?” I murmured, seeing a small flash of dark blue at the bottom of my field of vision.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you around before. Are you new?” the voice asked again.
“Uh…”
“Here, let me help you up.” I felt two more of the strange, hard surfaces grasp my sides and pull me to my feet. “Wow. You’ve been here awhile, it looks like. I bet somepony’s looking for you by now.”
“Some...pony?” A few things clicked in my head. Suddenly, the idea of being a pony came to me, but it didn’t seem all that strange. Maybe it was because I was dazed and confused, maybe it was all the picture books about unicorns I’d read when I was five, but I was oddly accepting of my new form.
“Can you walk?” the pony asked, very concerned.
“Erm… what is it, front left, back right, front right, back left?” I guessed, wondering how I was going to walk anywhere on four legs.
“I suppose… I mean, you’re at least fifteen, don’t you know how to walk?”
“Yeah… fifteen… that’s probably right,” I muttered.
“What’s the matter with you?” the pony gasped. “Do you have amnesia?”
I held up a hoof to try to make the ‘little bit’ symbol, but some things are hard to do without fingers. Instead, I rasped, “Maybe.”
“Oh, gosh. I-I don’t know what to do. We should get you a doctor! I’ll take you to Ponyville hospital.”
I chuckled a bit. The face of the pony was now in perfect clarity, and all I could understand at the moment was that a little green horse with pink hair was talking to me.
A hoof was hooked around my shoulders, and the kind pony started to lead me away.
Quite honestly, all I could do was laugh.

Waking up was a real pain, I felt a bruise pounding at the back of my head. I must have bumped it last night, though at the moment I didn’t remember anything from last night except for bad decisions about abandoned houses. My aching head wasn’t the only new thing when I noticed how comfortable and big my bed was, Is this even my bed? . My answer produced more questions when I lazily opened my eyes.
To simply say, this is not my room would have been a huge understatement, as the room I found myself in was was massive. It looked like it was the atrium of a mansion, yet it was surprisingly homely. I moved my head around to study more of the room, that is until I found yet another pleasant surprise. Lying next to me was probably what I would classify to be a horse, though this one had a horn and looked more animated than any horse I’ve ever seen. I jumped at the sight, but I stopped myself from waking it only by covering my mouth with… a hoof?.
I noticed my body had completely changed into a horse much like the one next to me. I slowly got off the bed while I involuntarily made panicked whimpers, the last thing I wanted was to wake up the unicorn. The cold, hard floor met my face when I attempted to jump off the bed, I realized that I had four legs and probably had to start using them better instead of falling at every attempt. I decided to cheat, and crawl on the floor, searching for an en suite, rich people definitely had en suites. The closest door I found turned out to be the correct one and I was relieved to see that it wasn’t as big as I had thought.
Being alone and trapped inside a horse’s body, the first thing I did was carefully grab nearest folded towel with my new hooves. Pressing the towel against my face, I screamed, letting out all my confusion and panic into a muffled shout. I knew I had to see what I really looked like, so went over to the sink mirror and slowly peaked at the bottom corner, almost scared of my own reflection. When I got a good look at himself, I was surprised to see how… human this horse looked. I was a unicorn, that I knew, but the mustache and my expressionate facial features I found surprisingly enjoyable. As I was admiring my looks, I almost failed to notice a necklace around me that held a locket. My hooves couldn’t grasp the locket as easily as they could the towel since it was too small.
I started getting frustrated with this thing to the point where I shouted, “Just get in my hoof ya stupi—”
A golden aura covered itself around the locket, which seemed to be lifting it in air. As it stayed in place, I slowly moved my head in random directions to which the locket started to follow.
“...thank you?” I said awkwardly.
I didn't bother to question the magic that I apparently had control over, as it actually became easier to learn than using hooves and walking on four equine limbs. I opened the locket and found a photo of some ponies I didn't recognize along with an inscription that said, Razoff . Thinking nothing of it, I realized the locket from the magic grip but kept it around my neck, I thought I keep just in case. Something else caught my attention when I started to wash up: a scroll was placed just on the toilet seat. It looked like the scroll I had back home before I dozed off. When I unrolled it with my magic, it was the same scroll, but the language on it suddenly started to translate well to me, like it was my primary language.
Hello, to whomever it may concern, the locket that you now possess is very important to you for the time you spend in this world, so no matter what happens don’t lose it. I have put five hundred thousand bits in your possession. You are to use these bits for one thing and one thing only: to make a difference. Change this world for the better. If you are found to be using this money for your own personal gain, it will be taken away and you will be sent home, your memory wiped. If you succeed in making a difference, you will be rewarded handsomely.
Best of luck,
Princess Celestia
I didn't know what this Celestia was trying to accomplish by doing this, but I didn't have a plan of my own, so I decided to play along for now. A knock at the door made me jump in fright at the sudden interruption, but a calming voice called out afterwards, “Darling, is everything alright?, you were shouting a while ago”.
Now I was likely in big trouble, I had a feeling that the unicorn whom I had possessed was probably this mare’s husband. Despite not knowing who exactly I was suppose to be, I had to answer quickly and convincingly as possible. Taking a shot in the dark, I responded, while putting on a posh english accent, “Oh just fine ‘n dandy my dear, I was just talking to myself”.
“What were you talking to yourself for?”
“Oh, well you see… I was just, um, mad at myself for forgetting what we were supposed to be doing today”, I half lied
“Ooh, got so excited that you forgot what you were supposed to be excited for, hm?”
“Um, yes that’s right.”
“Well once you’re finished in there, get yourself something nice to wear. Ee’re going to stay in Ponyville for a week.”
“Ponyville?” I realized I probably should have just accept that information with a compliment about how lovely that idea was.
“Why yes, didn’t you say you wanted to pay visit to that lovely unicorn, Rarity?”
“Oh um, yes of course I said that, sounds wonderful, dear”
Oh I think I’m going to do just fine in this world.
It was the hurricane. It had turned such a placid place into… this. Just ruins. The massive swirling formation of clouds could be seen not far from the town, still blowing fiercely on everything around me, pieces of houses and other random shards of the town flying everywhere. I didn’t know why or how, but the hurricane winds weren’t affecting me. It only felt like a strong springtime current to me, even though my trench coat was blowing furiously as if it was in a hurricane. When I had woken earlier today to the howling winds and seen entire chunks of earth and building flying in every direction, I had immediately been drawn outside for some reason, as if some sort of salvation could be found out there aside from living.
Why?
It was one word, but trying to solve it felt like trying to figure out the last digit in pi. In other words, it was impossible.
Calmly walking along a small street I glanced around, my left arm occasionally brushing over the FN Five-Seven hidden beneath the trench coat under my armpit. I had taken it due to force of habit, being a retired U.S.A.F. pilot. Pulling the gaiter I was wearing further over my face and fixing the winter cap on my head, I proceeded around the corner of an intersection. Carefully scanning my new surroundings, I could see multiple cars flipped or damaged on the streets. Sighing at the depressing sight, I moved at a slow jog down the road.
After a few minutes of jogging down the long street which I had now assumed was close to the main street due to it’s length, I heard a nearby window shatter loudly as if a large thing—or person —had smashed into it. Instantly training my Five-Seven on the window frame, I took a deep breath and slowly walked towards it. When I was about five meters from the house, another very large chunk of rock impacted the ground near me. Jumping back in surprise I looked in the direction of where I thought it had come from.
“Fuck me…” I grumbled.
There was a large cluster of pieces from structures and earth heading right towards me. Letting my gut take over, I beelined it to the shattered window and dove through it into the house. I was pretty scared now. There were pieces of scenery the size of briefcases flying at me at 200 miles per hour, and I wasn’t sure a wood wall would protect me.
After a painfully long half minute of listening to the pieces impact into the ground and some to the building I was in, I heard silence. Mentally crossing my fingers, I peeked over the window and saw a small house across the street has now half gone. After a quick area check I slowly climbed out of the window. I seemed to feel that the object I was searching for was almost within my grasp. I wasn’t far from whatever it was. I looked around before setting off on a slow run down the street again. Glancing behind me one more time, my eyes widened in shock. I threw myself down to the ground and covered my head as a large metal case the size of my head rammed into the ground where I was once standing. Quickly standing up I was about to book it out of there, but the feeling once again increased ten-fold. Whatever I was looking for was probably in the case that almost decapitated me. Walking over to it I saw it was stuck in the road on an angle, but the top was facing up and a latch was visible. I kneeled down to open it but saw an empty key hole.
“I don’t have time for this. ”
I stood up and aimed my Five-Seven at the latch. Pulling a trigger, a 5.7x28mm armor-piercing bullet traveling at almost 2,000 feet per second blew the lock to pieces, leaving a decently sized hole in it. Smiling in satisfaction I kneeled down and flipped open the lid. What I saw inside was a bullet hole, a squished bullet half impaled in the stone beneath the case, a rolled up dark red and striped scarf, a silver-ish piece of metal with tribal designs engraved on it, and a scroll with a gold band keeping it rolled neatly. Putting down my gun I took out the scarf first. It was made of fine cloth and expertly weaved. Shrugging, I stuffed it in my coat pocket. Next I took out the piece of metal and found it to be very heavy, like lead or iron, or both. I examined it, looking at every finely engraved detail before putting it in my pocket too. I looked at the scroll. Something about it felt more vital than the other two things. I carefully picked it up and turned it in my palm before removing the metal band and unrolling the parchment. On it was… another language.

I blinked a few times. If this was what I was looking for then why couldn’t I freaking read it? Looking over it again, I was able to recognize only two different words: 500,000 and “Celestia”. By the way the latter was put at the end of the letter, I guessed she—I hoped it was a she—was the person who wrote it. I stood up and picked up my Five-Seven, holstering it with the scroll still in my hand. I rolled it up neatly and put the band back on it to secure it, but didn’t put it in my pocket. I looked around before stopping at the hurricane, the swirling mass of cloud and water battering itself across the land. I was about to look away and continue my trek when something caught my eye.
There was something far down the street standing at the corner of an intersection, it was tall and lengthy with bright orange marks on parts of its body, but I couldn’t see it’s body due to the grey color which was blended into the background. Tucking the scroll in my right coat pocket, I cupped my hands to my mouth and yelled at the top of my lungs.
“HEY!”
The thing didn’t even move. I was about to yell again but it bolted around the corner, disappearing around the nearest house.
“Damnit.” I muttered to myself.
I set off in a full sprint in the direction of the intersection, hoping there was someone else out here who could help me. With my mind set, I failed to notice the winds around me pick up dramatically. By the time I noticed it was too late. I was whisked off the ground and hurled at breakneck speeds towards the hurricane. Shielding my eyes with my arm, I squinted behind me where entire houses in pieces was traveling in the same avenue as me, but these were going faster. As the storm of stone approached me, I curled myself into the fetal position to maybe reduce damage done to me by the impact of shards. Peaking between my knees, I spotted the last thing I would’ve expected. The same figure I had seen before was flying about fifty yards away from me, parallel in trajectory. But it was actually flying . I could see massive wings sprouting from the back of the figure, which (to make it more weird) were equine . Like a pegasus. But those things are myths!
As soon as my mind finished its statement, I felt a sudden weakening in consciousness. I fought the urge to fall asleep and my body went limp in the air. As I squinted in the direction of the hurricane, I saw I was about to go actually into it. I was going to die inside a cone of clouds. I would be a hundred meters in the air with no parachute free falling inside a hurricane. I closed my eyes lightly and waited for the end to come. Feeling consciousness completely leave my body, I closed my eyes. Kind of a shocking way to go, inside of a typhoon, but I guess it’s just nature, I thought. Right…?
~~~~~~~~~~
Every part of my body was sore. I felt myself waking up, regaining my senses. First my vision: Dirt, dirt filled my vision. Next was hearing: I heard birds chirping. Next was smell: I smelt fertile soil and scorched… fur? Next was touch: I was laying in a lot of moist soil. Finally came taste: My mouth tasted like dry rubber; I needed water. I rolled onto my side and looked down in the direction I had supposedly came from. A few odd things got my attention. One was there was a large rut in the dirt that ended where I was laying, as though I had impacted the ground and slid through it.
Ouch , I thought bitterly.
It was the next odd thing though that really caught my attention. Looking down at my lower body there were no longer any layered pants with hefty hiking boots bottoming them off on my legs. Instead there was a thick coat of bright stone grey fur covering my legs, which had two joints like a horse’s back legs, and had...hooves. I rolled over onto my back and brought my hands up to rub my eyes, and almost had a heart attack. Looking at my hands they were no longer hands, but hooves just like the one’s that took my feet’s place. My fingers… I thought.
Making an attempt to stand up, I fell flat onto my face with a thump. “Fuck!” Shakily getting back up, I put my front… legs… before me as well and slowly balancing myself on all fours.
Taking a deep breath, I looked over my shoulder at the rest of my body. I let out a small whimper at the sight. I was a horse. With large, silver wings on my sides, and a brilliant orange tail with a black stripe stuck out from the top of my ass.
“I’m a horse.” I said flatly as I looked forward blankly. “Is this really just nature?”
