The Dragon Tamer

With thundering wingbeats, a massive figure streaked its way through the night sky. Looming in the distance was a shining city on the side of a mountain; Canterlot. The enormous dragon shifted its trajectory slightly, adjusting to fall directly in line with the Equestrian metropolis, the denizens of the quiet city entirely unaware of the looming danger.

Upon the head of the massive winged lizard perched a much smaller figure. The pony stood firm, a fire in his eyes and a smirk on his lips. He wore a dark robe, the only thing about him revealed to the night being his muzzle and the horn protruding from under the hood. Seeing his target in sight, he chuckled, the laugh slowly morphing into a malevolent cackle.

“Finally, after all these years…” The stallion muttered to himself. “Finally, I will have my revenge on that cruel goddess for casting me out. I will make her pay for ever banishing…” He paused for effect, then threw up his head, revealing a face badly burned and scarred, one eye so damaged that it was covered by a (very cliché) eyepatch.

“The Dragon-Tamer!!!” the scarred pony shouted into the night, the dragon below him bellowing in an equal fury. Continuing their journey through the night, streaking towards the Equestrian city, the dragon and the Tamer both managed to miss the flap of wings behind them, slowly gaining speed.

Suddenly, the air before the dragon lit itself aflame; causing the dragon such a shock that he was forced to the ground below. Landing with an earth-shaking crash, the Tamer was thrown off of his pet’s head, and sent cartwheeling through the air. Landing rather ungracefully, the Tamer stood up, roaring in fury at whatever force had dared to oppose him in his plan for revenge.

Lit by the fading flames, a group of five ponies approached the Tamer. The first stood with massive brown wings unfurled, a jagged scar cutting his forehead in twain. His eyes were calm, but had just enough of a hint of anger in them to make him terrifying. Adorning his flanks was a symbol of a sword ringed by a crown. To his right was an incredibly disfigured earth pony, his head and body covered in the armor of a Royal Guard. His right foreleg had been replaced by a machine, as had his left hind leg, making him look like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. He held a sword on his teeth, the steel glinting in the firelight.

To the right of the cyborg-pony stood a stark white pony with a wild black and white mane. He wore a gray hoodie and flames danced off of his horn, the magic power fading from his spell. His back was adorned by two bright blue wings composed of pure magic energy, likely another spell. In the left of the trio stood another unicorn, dull gray in coat color, and with a jet black mane. He wore a suit, strangely, and behind black sunglasses he stared down disapprovingly at the villain before him. Furthest to the left, a pegaus hovered a few inches above the ground, the air around her stirring as if it were alive. Her long white mane flicked about in an intangible wind, and her eyes showed nothing but cold anger.

The stallion in the center stepped forward, and folded his wings. He opened his mouth and began in a booming voice:

“Dragon Tamer; This is your only warning, turn back now or we will be forced to turn you around ourselves.” The Tamer looked at the colt in front of him and laughed hysterically.

“And who, pray tell, are you to command he who can control a mighty dragon?!” The Dragon Tamer shouted back, gesturing to the rising mass of scales behind him. The pegasus looked to where the Tamer’s hoof pointed, then back to the pony it was attached to.

“I repeat myself; I am King of Equestria’s Enforcers, the ponies behind me are:

“Bright Blade, or the Knight,” King said, gesturing to the cyborg-pony. The eyes behind the helmet narrowed and his jaw clenched around the hilt of the sword between his teeth as his legs’ servos hummed with energy. King’s hoof moved to the unicorn beyond Bright Blade

“Joystick, better known as White Magyk,” The unicorn looked over at the Tamer dismissively, and expelled a burst of lightning from his horn, sending it crackling into the night sky. King turned to face the other two ponies.

“Ragnarok, or Lord Death,” King gestured at the other unicorn of the group, who grunted and allowed a lick of black flame from his horn to catch on his coat, burning away to reveal the bones beneath, then shook his head and returned to his normal state. King pointed his hoof at the final pony in the group.

“And Silver Wind, but you may know her as WhirlWind.” The wind that the mare was apparently summoning using her inherent magics picked up, and sent her mane whipping about as she rose slightly into the air, forming a small tornado of dust around her hooves. King placed his hoof back on the ground, and turned back to face the villain before him, ending his monologue with: “We are the Equestrian Enforcers, and we highly advise you to turn tail and flee, now.”

The Dragon Tamer looked at the team, and considered their leader’s words for a moment. Then, he turned around, laughing at the thought of surrendering to some group of random “superheroes”.

“My pet!!” the Tamer bellowed, “Teach these fools a lesson in obedience!!” The villain then leapt up onto the dragon’s lowered head, and the dragon rose up to its full size. It stood on its hind legs, outstretched its wings, and roared in fury into the night. Smashing down back onto all fours, the dragon turned its head to breathe fire on the Enforcers. Springing into action, the team each immediately began their assault on the gargantuan beast. WhirlWind took off, creating a dust storm and shielding the others from the dragon’s sight. She rocketed off into the sky, and then abruptly switched trajectories to put her in a tight rotation around the dragon. Firing gusts of air at the dragon’s scales, she drew the creature’s attention to herself.

At the same time, King had unfurled his wings and caught the wind of the dust storm, sending him soaring into the air, far above the dragon. Hundreds of feet above the raging dragon he hovered, silently emitting a pulsing green light.

Far below, White Magyk had activated his Ethereal Wings again, allowing him to fly free of the wind. Moving at an unimaginable speed, he zipped under the dragon, stalling directly under the dragon’s soft underbelly. There he activated his magic, horn glowing, and a massive bolt of lightning fired into the beast’s belly. Roaring in agony, the dragon moved to swipe at the pony beneath him. However, he only hit air, as the unicorn had zipped off again; casting a barrage of fire spells at the dragon’s back.

The dragon then attempted to take off, wings beating as the gigantic lizard rose from the ground. Suddenly, Ragnarok was directly in front of him, a black flame consuming his flesh, leaving him as bones covered in the same fire, wearing a tattered suit. The nightmarish figure’s eyes turned to black as the flame shot from his horn, splitting into many individual spells as it flew. Each ball of flame hit a flap of skin on the dragon’s wings, quickly devouring the flesh they touched and sending the dragon hurtling towards the earth in incredible pain.

Before the dragon could hit the ground, its jaw was met by the Knight’s bionic fore hoof, crushing the bone with the sheer force of the punch. The dragon went careening off into the air again, the Tamer falling off of his head. The Knight launched himself into the air with a mighty leap, then sent a burst of energy from his hind hoof to send him flying at the dragon’s neck. The steel of his blade glinted in the moonlight as it struck true, cutting a deep gash in the dragon’s soft underside. Wounded and very, very angry, the dragon landed with a crash.

Preparing for one, final attack, the dragon reared back onto its hind legs again, mangled wings lying dead at its sides. Suddenly the air vibrated with an incredible energy. Up in the air, forgotten by the dragon, King’s glow had reached a blinding level. With a roar of pain, the glow condensed into a solid form, and King was suddenly surrounded by broken fragments of… something. The bits swirled around the pegasus for a moment, and then one by one attached themselves to the epicenter of his forehead scar.

The fragments formed into a jagged and broken horn, glowing ever brighter. Suddenly, King’s eyes snapped open and he streaked toward the missive dragon below him. Creating a streak of light behind him, splitting the night sky, the Fallen King flew to his target. The dragon looked up and prepared to attack the approaching pony, but it was too late. King’s trajectory carried him directly through the dragon’s chest, cutting a bloody hole in the dragon’s underside.

The Fallen King burst from the dragon’s back, and suddenly the glow stopped with a snapping noise, a bolt of green lightning striking the pony’s horn and shattering it into a million pieces again. Falling in silent agony, King landed on the ground, unconscious and coated in blood. Behind him, the dragon fell to earth, slain.

The remaining Enforcers grouped around the prone form of the Dragon Tamer, and picked him up. He looked on at his pet, lying dead on the cold ground. There, he broke, crying out in agony to the night at the failure of his plan, and the loss of his only friend.

King approached the sobbing villain, frowning at the scene. The Tamer looked up at the bloodsoaked pegasus before him. King looked at him, then back at the dragon. His frown deepened.

“We told you to flee.” The leader of the Enforcers said grimly. He then turned around and took off, flying silently away into the night. The Tamer watched him go, then fell to the earth himself, bawling like a foal.
