"Twilight! There's a package at the door!" Spike yelled, his maturing voice much deeper than when he first hatched from his little egg all those years ago. I trotted lightly through the library and down the stairs. There was Spike, his awkward teenage body trying to look normal while he sat on the couch. I pranced over to the window and peeked outside. Spike had been right. Sitting on my doorstep was a medium sized brown box. On the top of the box there was a tag that read "Twilight Sparkle, I trust you with this."
I had never received anything so odd. Effortlessly I opened the door and brought the package inside. Magic had become extremely easy for me a couple years ago. I took a couple deep breaths before opening the curious package. I untied the dainty string and lifted the flaps at the top of the box. Inside this odd package was something truly odd.
"No. She can't..." I stuttered out at the sight of Celestia's crown. That was not the only thing in the package. No, there was more. A pair of wings and Celestia's necklace.
"What is it, Twi?" Spike asked completely unaware of the current situation.
"Celestia is stepping down. . . and giving her power to me!" I cried.
"Didn't Luna finally get Celestia to share her power with Luna?" Spike asked confused.
"Yes, but that doesn't change any of this. She is stepping down, giving her position to me." I fell to the ground. Tears blinded me. "Come on, Spike. We have to go to Canterlot."
I stood up, slowly. The Wings fixated themselves to my back, completely out of my control. A slight cry in pain escaped my lips. I flapped my new wings a couple times, getting used to the feel of the wings. I trotted off, carrying the package without any effort and flapping my wings, finally lifting off the ground. Spike followed.
My wings flapped unsteadily. The clouds moved out of my way. Flying was a sensation unlike any other. No wonder Rainbow Dash loves it so much.
"How could this be happening?" I whispered under my breath, "It seems so unreal. Like it's not really happening. How can Celestia step down now?"
Spike flew in closer. He looked at me, his green eyes looked deeper, more understanding than they ever have.
"It's going to be OK, Twi. It will all work out. You'll be a great princess." Spike reassured me, and I found myself crying again.
"How can you be sure?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"Because I've known you my whole life. You are Twilight Sparkle, the new princess of Equestria. You are no longer that young filly who couldn't conjure up magic. Nor are you that beautiful young mare that moved to Ponyville without any friends. You aren't Celestia's best student. You are the next Alicorn. You will be fine, Twilight. You are more than qualified for this, and Luna will be there with you. And don't even dare think I'll leave."
"Thank you, Spike," the tears fell harder, but this time because of how much Spike cares and believes in me.
In the distance I saw the elegant beauty of Canterlot. The ivory, violet, and gold at every turn amazed me for the thousandth time. There was something about the way it looked from the air, through the thin clouds, that made it far more magnificent. Perhaps it was the way I could see the city "float" off the cliff. Or maybe the intricate design everything seemed to have that was noticeable even up in the clouds.
I was so amazed by Canterlot's beauty that I didn't even think about the reason I was there. And as I neared the city I realized landing was something that wasn't thought about either. I managed to slow slightly as i neared the castle gardens. That's about the only thing in my "landing" that went smoothly. I crashed, hard, right in front of Discord's stone prison.
