Haunted Dreamsby SprinklekittyChaptersCelestiaStar DustLunaCelestiaCelestia walked slowly down the long hallway. When she was a filly, and before Nightmare Moon, she had felt fearless next to her sister. Like she could face anything. But now, well... days were grim. Darkness threatened to flood over them all. All it would take was one little pony... "Her royal highness, Princess Celestia!" Celestia tried to smile at her subjects, hoping it looked convincing. There was no need for them to know that in just a short time, the world could end. "Greetings, my subjects. Today, we have gathered here to witness the sun to be highered for the 5,000th time." she begin, smiling. Cheers erupted around her. Satisfied, she eyed each pony carefully. Then, all of a sudden, she rose the sun. Beautiful light seeped through her shadow. "Oooh!Aaah!" the crowd seemed to whisper. Celestia groaned as she got up from bed. So many papers to sign! So many ponies to greet! It was all too much. Her horn still ached from using her magic for so long. She heard a giggle. Whipping around, she found Luna snickering. "Oh, hahaha. This is sooo amusing!" Celestia snapped, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "My apologies, dear sister. It just seems the Philomena had a big one... on your head!" Luna erupted into another fit of laughter. "Wha?!" Celestia fumed, puzzled as she trotted over to her mirror. She gasped as she saw gooey bird waste plastered all over her forehead. She trotted over to the bathroom, shooting looks that could melt steel at Luna. She took a long, hot, cozy bubble bath. The aching melted away from her horn and joints. "Aaah," she sighed, relaxing. After what had seemed like hours, Celestia trudged to the breakfast table, grumbling. She was positive that Luna had pranked her! How dare she!? Calming down, she smiled at herself. She had looked funny. But... No. She wasn't going to admit that to her little sister. No, she wouldn't give Luna that satisfaction just yet. "Good Morning, dear sister," Luna's eyes showed nothing;she was sneaky that way. "Good Morning" Celestia replied with a brusque nod as she took her seat. "Luna... I... I have to talk to you privately..." Celestia whispered. The time had come for the truth to be revealed. And Celestia was the ideal one to reveal it. As Celestia closed the door to the dark room, she spoke quietly. "The end is coming." "No!" "Yes. It is time we excepted it." "You PROMISED me!" "I promised you I would warn you and help you stop it. You always had a different opinion than I. I excepted it. You ignored it, and were blinded by your foolish arrogance! You must except it!" Celestia fumed, outraged by her sister's stubborn personality. Luna panted, panic-striken. "No..." she croaked. Celestia rested a comforting wing on her sister's back. "I pray we are wrong, but the signs are too vivid. We must find her." "Which pony shall it be? A unicorn? Pegasus? Earth pony? Bat pony?" Luna asked as she listed off the names of different types of ponies. "This time it will be a pegasus in Ponyville." Celestia decided as she looked at an ancient map. "What is this Pegasus's name?" Luna inquired, curious. "Star Dust." Celestia answered, her face grim and dark with worry. Star DustStar Dust woke up, panting. "No!" she shrieked, her mind haunted by nightmares. Hisss She whipped around to see a pony with eyes like red pools of blood disappear into the shadows. She began to sob. Why? Why had she been having nightmares like no others? Even Princess Luna appeared in her dreams, whispering. "Help me!" Star Dust looked up, hoping to find some other Pegasus who had heard her shrieks and flew up to help her. She sighed ,as she had only seen a vision of Princess Celestia crying and wailing and whispering for help. "Help? What kind of help can I give?" she muttered to herself as she got up, stretched her wings, and flew down to her job as a mail mare. Her boss, Derpy Hooves wouldn't pay her if she came late again. She couldn't take that risk. "Good morning, Star Dust. Seems you didn't get any sleep tonight." Derpy inquired, squinting. "Uh...Bad nightmares," Star dust murmured as she put the pile of envelopes into her bag. Derpy Hooves nodded with sympathy as she turned to another Pegasus carrying a bag. Star Dust loved to fly. She loved feeling the rush of wind in her mane, her eyes looking down. It felt so, so normal. After what had seemed like hours of delivering mail, Star Dust flew home, her worries forgotten. Little did she know, her worries had only begun. The moment she closed her eyes, she regretted it. Again, images of bloodshed, wails, tears, and murders filled her mind. Blood... oh so much Blood! When she opened her eyes, she wasn't on her bed, in her cloud home. She was in Canterlot, with Luna and Celestia looking down at her. "Wha,Wha?" she sputtered, still groggy. "Hello, little one," Luna greeted, smiling. "Hello, obtuse one," Star Dust retorted, fuming. Celestia cleared her throat. Luna was not smiling any more. "Have you had any unusual dreams lately?" Celestia inquired, eyeing Star Dust carefully. "Yeah..." Star Dust admitted, looking up with fear in her eyes. Celestia looked at Luna with a raised eyebrow, and Luna nodded. "What have you seen in theses dreams?" Luna asked. Star dust shivered. "Ponies, Blood.... Bloodshed and murder. You two asking for help, whispering..." again she shivered, pushing the thought away. Suddenly her stomach growled, and she blushed. "Errr... could I get some breakfast?' she asked, embarrassed. "Why, of course." Celestia beckoned her with a wave of her tail. Getting up to follow, Luna walked up to Star Dust. "We can take more of this over breakfast." Luna told her, sympathy in he eyes. She understood how it felt to be hopeless, forgotten, misunderstood.... Star Dust began to chew her bagel; she had forgotten to eat last night when she came back from work. She was so tired, Derpy had worked her to the bone. Derpy was kind, but she demanded a great amount of work. "So, Star Dust..." Luna began awkwardly, then quickly sipped her tea, blushing. Celestia cleared her throat. "We have been sending dreams and visions and we believe you are the pony who can save us all." Celestia finished. "Save you? From what?" Star Dust inquired, puzzled. "From the darkness that threatens to overcome us all," Celestia answered darkly, her face grim. Luna"Dark Wing has returned." I explained, hoping this not so feeble mortal would understand. "Dark what now?" Star Dust asked, baffled. "Dark Wing. He... he used to be our brother..." Celestia stopped, embarrassed, ashamed. "Your brother!? But... but that's impossible!" Star dust said. "Oh, but you are wrong, young filly. It is more than possible. It is true. However, the truth can be more harmful than you could ever imagine." I answered, hoping to cover up for my sister. Star Dust shifted her gaze uncomfortably. "So, I'm the only one who knows this next to you and Celestia?" she asked, looking me in the eye, challenging me to object. My breathing became shallow. "Yes," I croaked. She smiled with sympathy. "Why have you never mentioned that you have a brother? Why is he evil? What happened to him? How could you cover up such a thing?" A flurry of questions came out of Star Dust's mouth. Celestia raised her wing for silence. "We have never mentioned him because he wasn't ever supposed to be born. Our mother, Sun Flare, created this world along side our father, Moon Beam. They taught us everything they knew, knowing that one day they would have to merge their power with the world so it could keep balance. they were willing to make such a sacrifice for us. One day, they announced they were going to have another foal, a colt, but it would not make it alive. Luna and I were horrified at the thought of dying. how could this wonderful time one day all...end? out mother saw this, and reassured us that, since we were alicorns, we would never die. A day after they had... merged, a young colt appeared in a clearing. We knew this was our new brother, and decided we should name him Dark Wing. We did, and watched him grow." Celestia's voice cracked, and a tear rolled down her cheek. I comforted my sister with my muzzle, willing my self not to cry as well. I continued for my sister. "One day, we were playing in a temple. We pretended it was a castle. Dark Wing disappeared into a room, and got possessed. When we came looking for him, he attacked. We defended ourselves, and banished him. He vowed in 5,000 years he would destroy Equestria, and disappeared. Now the 5,000 years is up. You are the only one who can save us. You must help us save Equestria!" I ordered, hoping the 'Canterlot Voice' would be persuasive. Star Dust munched un her bagel thoughtfully. "You know, I've read a bunch of books, and in some of them the hero says 'no' when asked to save something." she looked at me, and turned to look at Celestia as well. "Ok," Star Dust said, almost cheerfully. A flicker of hope lighted up in my heart. "You'll do it?" I asked, hoping I was right. Star Dust nodded, and got up from her seat. "May I rest a bit? I came home late after work yesterday." she inquired. "Of course! We'll start tomorrow. I'll send a sandwich to your room at 12:00." Celestia announced, relieved. I got up to show Star Dust to her room. Once she knew were it was, I trotted back to my own room. Everything was going great!
