Twilight Sparkle: Will She Ever Be Good Enough?
Buildings stood against the darkening skies of Equestria, the wind whistling as it weaved it's way through them.
A dark figure ran past on top of a roof.
It jumped gracefully enough over to the next house, and the one after that. Soon enough, it came to the end of the line of houses, but it didn't stop. It disappeared behind a hay roof and brick house as it jumped down.
But it nevered stopped running; it's cloak flapping around behind it.
Finally, it came to a stop outside of the Everfree forest.
"Did we lose him?" A female voice asked.
"Yeah...didn't you already notice it while you were running over those houses in town?" A male's voice said back.
The female retorted. "No, actually I couldn't! It's to freak'in dark to see!"
"Now, now! No need to get snobby on me! All I did was ask you a question!" The male voice retorted back.
The female grunted.
"And besides! Can't you use your Magic Sense to 'see' them, anyway?" The male's voice asked.
The female grunted before replying. "....hm, perhaps you're right, Spike...I could have used that, but I guessed I was too focused on our mission.."
Spike sighed. "I thought you could use that all the time?"
The female also sighed and said, "No, Spike, not yet.."
The scythe the female's carrying began to shine and tranform to something.
"Isn't Princess Celestia helping you work on that?" Spike, who had just tranformed from his scythe form, asked the
female.
"Yes, she is..but it's harder than it looks." She replied.
"But Twilight-" Spike began.
"No buts, Spike. Celestia's trying to get my to get it right..all it is is a minor set back..that's all." Twilight interrupted him, sounding as if she was trying to convince Spike just as much as she was trying to reassure herself.
The pair began to walk back towards their home.
Spike paused for a moment before replying.
"You know this means we failed the mission, right?"
Twilight stopped dead in her tracks.
Twilight breathed in deeply before saying anything.
"Yes, I know Spike." She sighed.
The two walked in silence for a while, the wind and their footsteps the only sounds to disturb the still night air.
When they reached back home, Twilight went to her room so she could read, while Spike went bed immediatly.
Twilight flipped through the well worn pages of her favorite story, StarSwirl the Bearded, as she sat comfortably on her bed.
When she came to a part she read often, she didn't even to read it. She had memorized it word for word and could even tell you which picture was illustrated.
Twilight sighed deeply as she turned her neck to stare out her window at the stars in the sky.
"I hope the Princess will be able to forgive me for failing...she is a very nice and gentle pony..." Twilight said aloud to herself.
"Maybe she'll forgive me..."
The next day, Twilight sighed as she dressed for school and gathered all of her material for the school day.
"She noticed her Magic Book was missing from it's spot atop her desk.
"Spiiike! Have you seen my Magic Book anywhere?" Twilight called out loudly.
A groan and mumbled response came from Spike's room a moment later.
"Sorry, but no Twilight. I haven't seen it since yesterday.."
"Damn..." Twilight muttered under her breath.
Oh well...guess I'll be doing notes on loose parchment today...
Twilight hurriedly ate her breakfast after gathering her stuff and woke Spike before heading out for school.
"I'll meet you there, Spike." She said over her shoulder as she closed their heavy wooden door.
Twilight sighed again when she heard the door latch, and began to walk to school briskly, setting her own pace so she's wouldn't be worn out when she reached the school.
She looked up and gazed at the blue sky.
Wow...Celestia did a good job on the sun today...it looks like it'll be a beautiful day... Twilight breathed in amazment.
Suddenly, something caught her attention.
Twilight blinked and went over to examine what she found.
A peice of paper with something...shiny.
Twilight curiously picked it up and unfolded it.
What she found was a mysterious looking necklace in the shape of a Cresent Moon.
A necklace...?
Twilight looked at the peice of paper, but didn't find anything written on it.
Not one single word.
On a picture. A drawing of the necklace shape.
"Hmm.." Twilight wondered.
"Interesting, isn't it?" A sudden voice said behind her.
Twilight jumped and whirled around.
Behind her, stood a small girl. She was dressed in a small, dark blue dress with black spots scattered across it. Her coat was almost the same colour as her dress, and her mane was short and light blue, and she almost glowed, like all the stars in the sky and come and rested upon the little one.
Twilight stayed silent, for she didn't know what to say to a little girl.
The girl giggled.
Suddenly a breeze picked up, petals of flowers surfing on the wind.
The girl smiled gently and seemed to disappear with the wind.
Twilight stared in astonishment as the mysterious young girl disappeared completely, the wind also calming down.
"W-wait!" Twilight cried out.
"Who are you?" She said.
"Twilight?" Spike's voice said behind her.
Twilight looked over her shoulder and found Spike standing there.
"Who were you calling out for? And what's that in your hands?" Spike asked his partner.
Twilight opened her mouth to reply, but then closed it.
She sighed.
"It's nothing, Spike.."
