Ever since Shining Armor married and was now protecting the Crystal Empire, Canterlot had needed a new captain of the royal guard. Soundwave, a grey mare with a powerful defensive spirit. She had a punkish red and black mane with a cutie mark that resembled a tire engulfed in flames had accepted the job offer hoping to get the position. Princess Celestia didn't want just another clone guard, she wanted variety this time around, so she hired the mare as the new captain.
"It's great to have you on the team miss Soundwave, and now I have a girl acquaintance to talk to whenever I can't sleep!" Celestia snickered now having someone besides her sister to talk to.
"You can count on me princess!" Soundwave answered cheerfully. Celestia then handed her the golden armor, and Soundwave had little to no trouble trouble slipping it onto her slim figure. Her wings started wiggling to find an opening. She eventually walked into the sleeping quarters of the royal guards, and got a wave of gasps as they all saw, that the new captain was a MARE. Even though the country was mostly females, it was still a concept that really was still new. Many months had went on, by the next autumn the whole squad gotten use to the idea of a female captain. During her position less and less incidents of destruction had happened, and so the elements of harmony weren't needed for much.
Today, Celestia had planned a visit the Everfree, in which the reason she would not tell why. She was probably visiting her old castle within the dark, dense forest, but the odd thing is that she wouldn't let Soundwave and her squad protect her throughout the danger filled area. The guards stood by the opening in which the Princess had walked in to. Celestia's mane swayed and flowed in the cool breeze, which was making a thick mist roll in. Her movements caught the attention of some creatures.
The creatures resembled were-wolves with golden eyes, reptilian tails, and long beaks with red upon the tip as if it was covered in blood. As soon as she saw more and more surround her she knew that there was trouble. She tried her best to run from them by flying away but the thicket was to close towards her to fully open her wings. After a few miles she had reached the end of the road. She was stuck between a rock and a hard place, it was either fall or be slaughtered, Eventually her pursuers had finally caught up with her and lunged towards her.
The guards heard her screams from the very edge of the forest, and rushed in to find the princess and hopefully save her from the terrors of the woods. Once they had got there, the damage had a already been done, and the monsters had already fled, hearing the pegasus guards racing towards her. Soundwave looked at the princesses magenta eyes, and only saw pain, and regret. " I NEED TO WAKE UP! I NEED TO WAKE UP!!!" Soundwave shouted. But this was not a dream. This was real, real pain, real regret. Even with the alicorns height and size, the small pegasus somehow managed to picked her up on her back, and fly as fast as she could to canterlot, and find some medical help quickly.
As soon as they landed, other guards within the hospital picked up and carried away the princess. Soundwave had strained herself, flying that fast with a full grown alicorn on her back. The last sight she saw was the princess thanking her, then her vision soon faded away into darkness.
She woke up later in her apartment in canterlot. The other guards must have carried her here. "CELESTIA!?!!" Soundwave gasped. "Was she ok?" soundwave thought to herself. She looked over to see a small note on her desk. An invitation to a funeral, but it was not an ordinary funeral invitation, it was for a royal funeral. The letter said 'We regret to inform you that our ruler princess Celestia has unfortunately has passed away, the service will be this evening.' Soundwave felt herself choke up from just reading that one sentence.
Around seven in the evening she entered the graveyard in which the princess was being buried. Many of her friends including Soundwaves team was invited to do the honor of burial. "It is an honor to meet you captain Soundwave." Luna said holding back her tears mourning her sister.
Soundwave nodded and saw Celestia's cold face. It showed nothing but peacefulness, Soundwave could see past it and saw heart break and despair."I failed to protect you your majesty, I'm so sorry." Soundwave said as she started to weep knowing she failed to perform her duties. A few minutes had passed before Luna started her eulogy.
"Everypony, we are here to mourn over the loss of princess Celestia. She was a beloved ruler, teacher, and sister. She was struck down by the dangerous creature known as the croctalon when visiting the old castle I and her used to rule. Our new guard captain Soundwave and her team tried their best to save her, but by the time they reached her it was to late. She will be missed, but not forgotten." Luna finished getting teary eyed.
"I'm sorry for your loss princess Luna." Soundwave said as she hugged the controller of the moon.
"Thank you captain, but I think I'll mange." Luna said as she wiped some tears from her eyes. From that day on Soundwave has resigned her role as a captain. She had went through years of depression until claiming her life but ramming herself into a mountain, so she could join Celestia in the Summerlands. She was buried next to Celestia showing how much she loved her job of defending her.
