Runaway Pony memories

Kodi still lay on the ground, his face in his arms and a few raindrops dripping on his head, and wept even more, until finally falling asleep a few minutes later.

In his dreams, the recollections just drew even stronger and more realistic, and Kodi couldn't control them.

It was a few weeks ago. The sun was shining in Ponyville, and besides a few clouds, the sky was mostly clear. The same brown pegasus from earlier is seen leaving his house in Ponyville, Kodi has not had a convivial and often unhappy life, this day not being any exclusion. With his mother dead at child birth and his father constantly beating him, Kodi had acquired several scars over the years; the most easy to notice was above his eyebrows, a scar from some sharp object, probably a knife.

As the pegasus left his house, he sighed and goes out to the market to buy some groceries. In the market, there are multiple stands set up, selling items from cupcakes and apples, to jewelry. Some shops are handled by apprentices, and others being operated by master hagglers. Kodi goes to a muffin stand and begins to browse through the muffins. Suddenly, he notices a certain mare that made his heart skip a beat. She was a gray mare, with a yellow-ish mane and a few bubbles as her cutie mark. She was also a pegasus pony, carrying a saddlebag with a chocolate muffin as the button. Sure, he had crushes before, but that was earlier in his life when he was behind the ridiculous misinterpretation that life was good. This, he knew, was love at first sight.

Suddenly, she turned around and noticed him, making his heart skip yet another beat. "Well, hello there! I haven't seen you around here before."

Kodi shuffled his hooves anxiously, nearly mumbling his words, "Yeah, well... I erm... Just moved in about a month ago. I've been busy setting up my house, and either way, I don't like to hang out much. The few people i have talked to, however, call me 'Dr.' or 'Mr. Whooves', but I honestly don't know why." Kodi's cheeks had began to blush, as he scratched his mane with a forehoof. He stole a quick look at the gray pegasus mare, who simply gave him a warm smile.

"I think they might be referring to Dr. Whooves." She said. A cute, quiet giggle escaped her, which made him feel even more embarrassed.

"Who?" asked Kodi. He could feel his cheeks begin to simmer down as he took a few breaths.

"Dr. Whooves is a quiet earth pony, who looks a lot like you. He often goes around testing his crazy inventions, and usually doesn't destroy anything in the process. You should hang out with him... He and I have went on some CRAZY adventures,” She chuckled.

Kodi shrugged. He thought about the idea for a moment. Hanging out with Dr. Whooves could be fun as he didn't have any friends yet, and maybe she would be there too.

"So what's your name?" The pegasus asked abruptly, cutting through his thoughts.

The brown stallion managed a weak smile. "Kodi, yours?"

"Derpy, Derpy Hooves. Some people call me Ditzy though.” She smiled again, matching his own.

Derpy... It was such a strange name, and yet it seemed to fit her perfectly. Just like her, perfect...

"Have you ever met pink-"Derpy suddenly stopped and started grasping her eye. "Oh no...not again."

"What?" He asked, suddenly becoming alarmed. Was she hurt? Was something wrong?

"It's my eyes... I have a lazy eye, and it has a tendency to go around at random times." She still kept up her smile, trying to reassure him.

"Oh, how long do they stay like that?" He asked, suddenly becoming curious.

"Usually about half an hour, sometimes more.” Her one good eye darted around, looking for a clock. “Hey, I gotta go, I'll be late for work if I don't get home and drop off these groceries.” Derpy shrugged, looking at her saddlebags. “We should hang out sometime!”

Kodi could scarcely believe what he was hearing, a dream come true.

“I live north of the post office. It's a yellow house, you can't miss it!” Her good eye darted back to the clock. “Bye!" Said Derpy, waving a hoof as she shakily flew off.

Kodi shook a hoof goodbye back. He had met that mare for barely two minutes, and he knew that he would try to do whatever he could to make her his.
