Chapter One: Ace Escape

Ace was a Unicorn, with a red coat, and red and white mane and tail. He spent most of his time after meeting those two ponies locked in a cage, fed nothing but out of date Bacon scraps.

Ace’s life was very straight forward, he’d wake up, check the perimeter of the cage for any openings, and then lay back down until he either fell asleep, or one of the ponies in the house came over to his cage.

He always took great pride in his cage, it was after all, the only thing he had to his name. Before meeting The Gang, Ace lived a relatively simple life as a shopkeeper in Amareica, but those days of his fairly dull youth were long over.

One day, he had met an average sized yellow Pegasus mare, with her bright green and purple mane and tail. The mare had forcefully “requested” that he help out her and her friend, a black pegasus known as Phoenix, with his charcoal and red mane and tail, along with some pretty cool brown goggles.

Through events he had all but purged from his memory, Ace had ended up in the damp, pitch black cage his life had revolved around ever since, but one day, one… different day, there was something different, something wrong with his cage.

The door, the door that was always locked, had been left open, and for once, she heard no noise from beyond the door, not the twerkin’ pegasus referred to as Irken, nor the very loud sounds usually made via Midnight’s hourly romps.

Ace, for the longest time in his life, was stumped. He simply could not comprehend the chance of freedom. His broken mind was overwhelmed. And slowly, painfully slowly, he made his way towards the door.

Outside of the dark cage, Ace’s eyes immediately burned from the sudden exposure to sunlight. His senses were overwhelmed by things he hadn’t experienced in a very long time. He smelled the rotting colt meat, courtesy of the dead colt on the kitchen table, the stench of sex in the air, felt the cool air against his coat, saw all kinds of blurred colours, the feel of the soft carpet beneath his hooves, his tail swishing, finally having the room to do so.

The walls were an indigo colour, with pictures of various ponies hanging from them, the ceiling and carpet were a soft blonde, and the fan above his head generated a pleasant, cool air over his body. There were three armchairs dotted around the large space, one orange, another purple and one brown. A small sepia tone Television was perched atop a small cupboard, flanked by two large, black leather couches, each of which was thoroughly cleaned and tidy.

His thoughts raced, this was his chance. The chance for a better life, freedom, maybe even friendship. Before he had even fully thought about what he planned to do, his swishing tail had disappeared beyond the door, and he was simply trotting away, enjoying the natural feelings all around him, the birds chirped, the Pegasi sorted out the weather, and the grass blew in the pleasant, summer breeze. He breathed in, and then exhaled, letting his lungs get used to the fresh air, the likes of which he never expected to experience again.

Snow Globe was the best psychiatrist in Ponyville, the only one, really. So when ponies had a problem, he was there to listen. Recently, however, he had gotten his entire schedule filled, with a bunch ponies that needed some… very special help.

He sat in his office, letting the wind from the open window blow his magenta striped teal mane in the breeze, his wings lifting slightly at the updraft. Being stuck in a cramped space such as his office was not exactly comfortable to the pegasus, and he’d much prefer to be outside, flying and lazing around.

His life, however, was never that easy. The patient he was expecting for example; Brickius Flashicus, a lime green unicorn with a shamrock green mane, had been described as mentally unstable, and exceedingly dangerous. All of his current patients had this description in fact, apparently they had all been involved in some kind of crime spree.

Brickius Flashicus, or just Brick Flash, had injured, maimed, and killed around 60 ponies in Hoofington before the Guards had been able to sedate him. The fact that he had not been executed was just a testament to the Princess’ mercy, although his punishment was not light, there was no doubt about that.

Snow Globe had never worked with an insane patient before, usually only dealing with ponies that needed some kind of personal help, those with depression or rehabilitation problems, but never anypony quite like Brick.

For his own safety, there’d be two unicorn guards in the room, two outside the door, and Brick’s horn would have a magic disruption ring attached to stop him using any of his sadistic magic. As Snow Globe mulled over the approach he wished to take with this patient, he heard a faint clopping noise in the distance.

“That must be him right now” he thought solemnly, having yet to decide on a specific approach. The door opened, and in stepped the unicorn in question, flanked by two Royal Guards, grinning gleefully despite his situation. “Almost like he knows something we don’t” Snow Globe mulled this over in his head, before calming and letting his wings rest against his side.

“Hello there, Brick Flash” Snow Globe said, grabbing the still grinning unicorn’s attention, “My name is Snow Globe, and I’ll be here to talk to you, and hopefully, attempt to show you exactly what you have done” He finished, allowing this to sink into the green unicorn’s mind.

“Good morning Snowy, great weather, isn’t it?” Brick Flash asked, never dropping his cheerful attitude, “Almost makes me wish I could go outside, and enjoy the sunlight” he paused, “almost…” he frowned, if only for a second.

“You and your, ‘friends’…” he started, putting emphasis on the word “friends”, “There’s no way anypony could be friends with him, is there?” he thought, deciding not to voice his opinion too openly, “...Killed, maimed and seriously injured many ponies recently, why did you do that?”

“I was bored, and they all kept looking at me, like I was the strangest thing they have ever seen, but I’m sure I rectified that when I let them see their own entrails” he replied, still grinning mischievously.

“And do you feel no guilt for the pain you caused?”, “I suppose he is crazy, I should just wrap this up now, get to the more sane patients”, he decided, taking a sip of his coffee, as the unicorn simply tipped his head to the side, seemingly not able to understand the question. “Alright” Snow Globe began, “I seem to have run out of time, could you please take him back to his current housing, and bring the next patient in?” He requested, looking towards the two stoic guards, as they began to move Brick Flash towards the door.

“Damn... This, is going to be a long day...”
