Chapter 1
Daring struggled against the ropes binding her hooves and wings. She was hanging upside down and blood was rushing to her head. Below her was a deep pit full of dozens of writhing poisonous snakes. The rope around her hooves ran up to a hook on the ceiling and down again to the other side of the room where the rope was slowly being burned away by the flickering flame of a candle.
Next to the rope, Ahuizotl was grinning gleefully, rubbing his paws together gleefully.
Daring glared at him, “You won’t get away with this Ahuizotl.”
He laughed deeply, “I already have Daring Do. Soon you shall fall to your doom, I shall have the relic and there is no one who can save you!”
“Wrong dog face!”
A blue blur flew out of the shadows, a streak of rainbow coloured light trailed behind it. Ahuizotl didn’t have chance to blink before the shape tackled him with an impact like a runaway boulder. He was thrown off his paws and into the wall.
Rainbow Dash flew hovered and pumped the air triumphantly, “Aww yeah! Didn’t count on Daring Do’s number one assistant, did’ya Ahuizotl?”
Ahuizotl shook his head, trying to clear the stars that were dancing in front of his eyes. “Curse you Rainbow Dash!” His eyes focussed on something else and his grin widened, “At least I have the satisfaction of ridding myself of one nuisance.”
Rainbow’s eyes darted to where Ahuizotl was looking. The candle’s flame was burning through the last blackened strands of rope. They suddenly snapped. Daring cried out as she fell into the pit.
Dash flared her wings and shot at her at maximum speed. Daring fell past her, Dash gasped, tucked in her wings and dove down into the pit after her. Below the snakes opened their mouths, hissing loudly. Rainbow stretched out her hooves, wrapping her legs tightly around the flapping rope that was trailing behind Daring Do. Her jaws snapped shut gripping the rope tightly between her teeth. Holding Daring by her hooves and her teeth Rainbow Dash flared her wings open wide. Daring’s dead weight almost yanked her out of the air. Dash flapped harder, fighting against the pull of gravity. They slowed, then stopped and finally started to rise. Up and up they flew, the wide mouth of the pit drew closer and, finally, Rainbow flew out of the pit and to the safety of the solid stone floor of the chamber. The chamber was empty, the open door was the only sign Ahuizotl had left.
She lowered Daring down gently to the floor before landing at her side. “Sorry Daring, Ahuizotl got away.”
Daring nodded her head, “We’ll get him next time Dash,” the golden yellow pegasus smiled up at her, “thanks for saving my life. I can always rely on you.”
Dash smiled proudly, “Every time.” she put her hooves on Daring’s bonds, “now, c’mon, let’s get you untied.”
Daring jerked her hooves away from Dash’s grip, “not yet,” she said slyly, her grin widening, “at least, not until I’ve thanked you for saving me.”
Rainbow’s eyes widened, a nervous grin appeared on her face. “Well, if you insist.”
Rainbow leaned in, Daring rose her bound fore hooves, resting them on the back of Dash’s neck before pulling her close. Their lips connected, heat flowed between them. “Good morning dear sister.” Luna nodded her head.
Celestia sat down to her breakfast of poached eggs, toast and strong tea. “Good morning Luna. How was the night?”
Luna glanced out of the window, a mischievous smile on her face. “Stimulating, as always, dear sister. It makes us so proud to guard the dreams of our subjects.” she hid her grin behind her tea cup. In her mind she added, taking part in some of them is even better.

Chapter 2 - Getting wet in the bathtub *wink*
Celestia and Luna stood side by side upon the raised stage while the royal guard blew their loud fanfare.
The siblings spread their wings and the trumpets died down. Celestia began to speak, “Citizens of Equestria, it is no longer with a heavy heart, but with great joy that I raise the summer sun. For this celebration now represents not the defeat of Nightmare Moon, but the return of my sister, Princess Luna.”
To cheers and whistles Luna hovered up into the air, taking a place above the great silver metal moon; the symbol of her night. Focussing her magic her horn glowed and she felt the great body of the moon move to her will, sinking toward the horizon.
At the same time, Celestia hovered up into place in front of a golden sun. Her own magic already working to raise the sun. At the spilt second the two celestial bodies were level with each other in the sky, Twilight Sparkle flapped her wings, launching herself off the ground. As she crossed their paths she fired a great burst of magic from her horn, causing an explosion of pink light in the shape of her star cutie mark.
Luna had her eyes closed to help with her focus, so she didn’t see the event, however she did sense the enormous burst of magic and hear the astonished gasps of the ponies in the crowd. She could imagine the great sight of the sun and the moon hanging in the sky, framed with the bright glowing light in the shape of a star. It made the smile on her face widen.
As she landed, her sister and Twilight Sparkle at her side she truly felt, for the first time in a thousand years, the love of her subjects. She felt that the ponies of Equestria were finally accepting her en masse. She had gained small victories over the last year, aiding ponies with their nightmares and even gaining the trust of those ponies of Ponyville after Nightmare Night. However a few individual and one small town -as good as they had felt- were small hay-fries compared to the acceptance and love of the nation.
Luna, Celestia and Twilight descended from the stage. Around them their subjects bowed as they passed, all but five. The ponies who were Twilight Sparkles friends, her friends too. The -now former- bearers of the elements of harmony; Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. Her eyes lingers on the cyan pegasus for just a second longer than the others.
Dash didn’t notice the extra attention, her eyes were still sparkling after the royal display, “That was so awesome princesses!” her wings flared in her excitement.
Luna’s smile wasn’t going to fade any time soon, “Thank you, Rainbow Dash.”
Dash’s attention, however, was focussed on Twilight, “That magical burst you did was so COOL! Almost as good as a Sonic Rainboom.”
Twilight smiled nervously, “Thanks Rainbow.” her other friends crowded around Twilight, passing on their praises.
Celestia draped a wing over her sibling, pulling Luna’s attention away from the six. “You did well for your first Summer Celebration, Luna. I told you, your nerves were unfounded. You didn’t miss your cue and no pony distracted you, or called Nightmare Moon. Your timing was perfect.”
Luna nodded along in agreement. “You were right sister. As usual, you are annoying with your constant correctness.”
Celestia laughed lightly. She was glad to have seen this old, playful, side of Luna re-emerging over the last year. Perhaps she would start introducing a few pranks to the palace, like their castle in days of old. If memory served, Luna had always been fond of the throne slide. Amusing as a joke but it had also served its uses when the occasional boring diplomat needed to be avoided. “I meant what I said, sister. This day has only brought joy into my heart now that you have returned to share it with me.”
Luna draped a wing over Celestia, pulling her close in their own special version of a hug.
“Thank you, Celly.” anything else she had in mind to say was interrupted by a long yawn. “Oh, my.” her face flushed with embarrassment, “Sorry, sister. It would appear recent events have taken more of a toll upon me than I had realised.” She looked out at the crowd of ponies gathered for the celebration. A band was beginning to play, light music to add to the festivity but not be distracting. Her eyes lingered over the group of six mares who were laughing and talking with each other. “The night is over, the day has arrived. I tire sister. If you will excuse me, I would like to bathe and rest to prepare for the night.”
Luna usually slept during the day, this was not her natural time and they had both experienced some unusual events over the last 48 hours. It would be trying on anypony and princesses were not immune to stresses of trials. Celestia bowed her head slightly to show her understanding. “Of course, go and rest.”
Slipping away from the party was easy for Luna. When a princess wanted to leave from anywhere, she left. She didn’t have to stop to say goodbye to anypony if she didn’t want to, or worry about offending the host with an early departure; she was the host.
Palace guards saluted her as she walked by through the maze of corridors toward her quarters. The room was a comforting royal blue and silver with a star scape scene painted upon the ceiling. The dominant feature was the great round bed, large enough for two alicorns to lay down with room to spare. However, Luna usually slept alone. The bed had never looked more inviting but Luna turned toward her private bathroom. She wanted unwind in the hot water before she lay upon the sheets.
With a spark from her horn the hot water started to flow in the bathroom. Within seconds steam escaped through the door while Luna stood over by a vanity mirror and stripped of her royal regalia. Less and less of the pomp and ceremony of being a royal lifted away and just leaving behind just the pony.
She looked at herself in the mirror, but all too quickly she glanced behind her wing to the bed. So large and so empty. It had been for so long, even before her banishment. She had no equal and no one could love her equally. Maybe she would have a companion, even a consort. Perhaps she could love, but could that pony ever love her the same? She would always be a princess, an alicorn and the shepherdess of the moon. Who could ever feel that they were worthy of loving that? Her subjects placed her on a high pedestal. Perhaps too high.
In her imagination there was one. A pegasus with blue feathers, such a pretty shade of blue. A smile played on her face. Never intimidated, never afraid, never worried and -in her own words- awesome. Would she think herself worthy of royalty? Perhaps not. At least, not at first.
Luna felt a heat rising across her flank. Then noticed the copious amounts of steam coming from the bath room and remembered the still running water. Her horn glowed to stop the flow before she flooded her chambers.
Distracted for too long, Luna left her reflection behind and trotted into the bathroom. To her large alicorn body it was a bath, to anypony else it might be considered a wading pool.
