Ye Cruel Gods
Ye Cruel Gods: Chapter One
Load Full StoryNext ChapterCelestia walked among the pillars that composed the astral plane, her graceful hooves gliding over the cloudy surface that composed the floor of this strange place. She was making her way to her favored spot, the place the gods called the mirror pool, which allowed them to stare into the lives of the mortals who they guided through signs and visions.
She moved over to the pool, the scenery changing from the pillars and clouds to a moss covered cavern, sitting down in the grass next to the pool and dipping her wing into it, giving it a stir and then waiting for the images to appear.
Many of the images that appeared bored her, so she quickly waved them away, but soon one appeared that caused her to smile. She focused on the image, calling it closer and watching as the one who adored her went about her daily life. The images were of her high priestess Twilight Sparkle, a mare who had sworn herself to the goddess of the sun when she was but a little filly, sacrificing everything including her promised marriage to a wealthy lord’s son to devote herself utterly to the sun goddess.
There was of course reason for the young mare’s devotion, and thus it was Celestia’s duty to remember it. When the mare had been young, she had been brought before the priests of the goddess Faust, so that she could be tested on her magic. Everything had been going pretty well, until one of her acolytes, a young pegasus mare named Rainbow Dash, had triggered a harmonic discharge which had caused the young unicorn to overload with magical potential.
Her magic had started to spiral out of control, tearing the temple apart and wreaking havoc to the ponies inside. Her magic had also been causing herself harm, but through that pain, she had offered up a simple prayer to Celestia, asking her to help her stop this madness and get her control back, and Celestia had answered her call.
It had been the first time in thousands of years that the sun goddess had appeared before her people, and the moment she appeared, all bowed in awe; all save for the mare who had called to her. She had walked up to Twilight, placing a reassuring hoof onto the young fillies shoulder and smiling down at her, before using her magic to end the magical surge.
For Celestia it had been a simple task, one not even noteworthy in the eyes of the old goddess, but for Twilight it had been turning point in her life. From that moment on, she had devoted her entire life to the worship of the sun goddess, abandoning all other prospects in order to become a priestess, including her arranged marriage.
As she rose amongst the ranks, Celestia had presented her with many challenges along her road, and she had rose to each one with a religious fever that made many a pony tremble. Under Celestia’s guiding she had launched a quest to recover the artifacts known as the Elements of Harmony, as well as freeing her sister from the clutches of the dark goddess Nightmare. She had also gone on to defeat many other dark gods, like Discord the god of chaos and Chrysalis the goddess of change.
Finally, after he latest exploit, Celestia had sought fit to bestow the unicorn with a pair of wings, much to the displeasure of Faust, for she thought Celestia was becoming quite infatuated with the mortal. And she was right, Celestia was infatuated with her, much more than a god should be with a mortal, especially one such as her. Oh sure, for goddesses like Cadenza and Luna, they could get away with flirting and messing around with the mortals, Cadenza had even turned Twilight’s brother Shining into her personal Valkyrie, but she of course could not do such things. She was the virgin goddess of the sun, untouchable, pure, and perfect, and as such such wants and desires were forbidden to her.
But Celestia did have wants, she did have desires, and they were all focused on that one mare who devoted every waking moment to her goddess. And she knew it was every moment, for once while she had been board, she had decided to take a peek at her most dedicated worshiper during the long hours of the night, and had found to her surprise the mare in her bed, tending to her flower while she whispered sweet prayers to her solar goddess.
“Celestia,” said a stern voice, causing the solar goddess to jump up and end her connection to the mirror pool, the image of Twilight teaching some younger disciples her prayers vanishing as she turned to look upon who had spoken. She quickly bowed low, showing her fealty to the Goddess of Creation as she glared at her with her ice blue eyes, the cold stare showing no evidence that the being she was staring at was family.
“What have I told you about looking in on the life of that mortal,” said Faust, walking back over and calling the images again as Twilight’s face re-appeared in the pool, Faust glaring at it as she spoke again. “I remember telling you that such obsession is not for the likes of you, you are the virgin goddess, your role is to remain pure.”
“Pure of what Mother, I already have impure thoughts like all the others, why must I to be denied such pleasures, I don’t see you doing the same.”
Faust didn’t even move as one of her six wings shot out, stretching to an impossible size as it caught Celestia by the throat and pinned her to the adjacent wall, Faust not even looking at her as she spoke. “That is why you must restrain yourself most of all Celestia, you are still of pure body and spirit. As to these impure thoughts, let them linger, as gods we must all suffer such things, but as for indulgence, I am afraid you will simply have to do without that.”
Faust then let go of her, letting her drop to the floor as she rose to her hooves. “Come along then, we have to go and speak with some of the dark gods and address the matter of their temples being burned down, and while we are doing that, I expect your thoughts not to drift to that priestess of yours.”
Celestia simply nodded, getting up and following her mother back into the main hub of the Astral plain, not noticing the eyes watching them as they headed off toward their next destination.

Cadenza giggled to herself as she flew back to Luna’s lunar glade, grinning like a newborn foal as her wings beat with an ever increasing pace. While she had been shocked to say the least that Luna had been correct about their sister’s infatuation with high priestess Twilight, she still revealed in the thought of new love brewing, especially if Cadenza had any say in the matter.
She landed in the moon lit glade, smiling at her lunar sibling as she spotted her lying next to a fallen tree, gazing up at the stars before looking up as Cadenza giggled during her approach.
“Well hello Cadenza, I see what I told you has wrung truth.”
“Oh yes,” said Cadenza, lying down next to Luna and turning so that she could look up at the stars, noticing that Luna was working on a new constellation but deciding to stick with her current topic. “I didn’t even need to get that close before I hit that practical field of love that is radiating off of her.”
She giggled some more, her face taking on a maniac glee as she continued to speak. “And it’s not just her, the young high priestess is the same way, and before you ask yes I know the difference between the love one holds for their goddess and the love one hold for somepony special and believe me, she sees her as somepony special as well as her goddess.”
Luna nodded, “I had figured as much, it only took one look into her dreams to know that. Now the thing we have to worry about is mother, you know how she views our dear Celestia.”
“aw yes, putting her on that pedestal of perfection and purity…god it makes me sick, virginity is so overrated!”
“I would have to agree dear sister, but we still need a plan as to how we can get those two together, I mean she can’t just visit Twilight out of the blue, everypony would be swarming her asking for favors and good weather, and by the time she could pry herself away to be with the high priestess mother would descend from on high and take her back home.”
Cadenza thought about it for a moment, and then a smile graced her face as she looked around at the area around them. “Well why don’t we bring them to our realms?”
Luna raised a skeptical eyebrow, causing Cadenza to go speak again before she voiced any concerns. “look, mother knows us, she knows what we like to do, so she never looks into our realms little gardens anymore because she does not approve, so the perfect place for them to meet is a place that she does not have her eyes on.”
Luna thought about it for a moment, and then nodded her head as a smile graced her face. “Yes, that would be a good idea, but I suggest it be you that bring her here first, I know for a fact mother particularly despise what I allow to go on in the openness of my nighttime glade.”
Cadenza nodded, “I will go get her now then, you just make sure to get Celestia here and all will be good.”
Luna nodded, and then got up as Cadenza vanished with a burst of magic, the lunar goddess heading out of her glade and towards the place where she knew Faust had taken her, her plan in motion and a smile on her lips. If all went well, the once pure goddess would be a virgin no more.
