Always Give Her a Smile
Ah Love is so Fickle and Plain
Load Full StoryI could see her plainly...
She was the love of my life, and was soon to be the end of it. A blinding light entered into my small room and I saw her, that wonderful pink mare that had loved me until another caught her eye. She walked towards me and reached out with her hoof as a sign of friendship..., no wait... what was that word? She lifted me up, and I stared into her blue eyes that had entangled me so many months ago. She laughed, and I felt like I was flying, "I'm sorry." I said as I stroked her mane and walked into the light. I woke up.
Rope bound my wrists, a cloth bag was draped over my head so I could see nothing was bouncing against the rough wooden bottom of a simple cart with a cover to hide my filth. Voices screamed seemingly everywhere, "Murderer!" they cried, "Monster!" called another. I had heard them all before, and they did not bother me. The cart stopped and the cover was ripped off exposing me to the warm sun. A stick stabbed at me and goaded me out of the safety of my cart. I landed on the cobblestone with my bare feet, and the sack was stripped off, making my eyes dilate to take in the painful light, as I adjusted, I could see the wooden gallows glowing golden in the sunlight, yet casting a shadow of pain and death behind itself. I was pushed up the steps to the wooden monolith by a pony dressed in a light purple armor with the scene of a horizon glowing with the setting sun was emblazed on the center.
Waiting for me at the top of the platform was yet another pony, yet he was simply clothed in a black executioners mask. On the crossbeam above me was a dark brown rope tied perfectly into the shape of a noose. I was positioned next to it so my face was inside the loop. A magical aura engulfed the rope and draped it around my neck. It was tightened painfully under my Adams apple.
"Andrew Logan Sanchez," said a familiar feminine voice, I turned my head slowly towards it, even though I knew who it belonged to. She glided down on lavender wings with two guards flanking either side. As she landed and tucked away her wings, she motioned a shooing motion to her guards with a solitary hoof.
"Sending off your guards again Princess? You sure you want to do that especially since what happened the last time?"
"Silence you monster," she growled, You are in no place to be making threats, since you are about to hang until your feet stop twitching and there is nothing you can do about it.
"Oh I wouldn't say that, I could still curse you with a mans last dying breath, but sadly that would do nothing but maybe hurt your little bitchy feeling for a couple of seconds, then you would pull the lever and leave me hanging for the crows.
"Enough with this babble, Andrew Logan Sanchez, you are accused with homicide of five ponies in the span of six months, and thus since there has been no law against this before, the Canterlot council has sentenced you to death by hanging. Do you understand this sentence?"
"I do" I said and stared back into her eyes with a grin and stare which caused her to falter and step back a hoofstep.
"Do you have any last words?" she continued.
"Actually I do. Yet I only want you to hear them. So come close and hear the last words of a condemned man."
One of her guards landed quickly and raised a hoof in salute, and before the Princess of the dawn could answer, he blurted, "My princess, the decision to get near the prisoner would be most unwise due to what damage he has caused already."
"Ah you guards are never fun, especially the ones that captured me!" I laughed out loud. "Bunch of brutes barged on me having a nice cup of coffee, almost spilled a damn drop as they caught me."
"THAT IS ENOUGH!" she cried out with her newly found Royal Canterlot Voice, Spell Bind, leave now, I will still talk to the prisoner." He grunted and flew away in a flash of yellow-orange. She walked towards me and craned her neck as close to me as she would dare.
I leaned over as far as the noose would let me and hissed with extreme malice "She loved me, not you. Also," I whispered releasing the malice sharply, "I think I left the stove on in the house you provided me, could you be a dear and turn it off?"
"No," she replied, "I will watch that evil place burn down to cinders along with the darkness inside of it."
"Fine then." I shot and returned to my upward facing position, shall we get this over with?"
"Gladly, she replied, "Executioner, send our prisoner to Tartarus!
"Yes, my Princess... he said slowly and reached for the lever,
and stopped as blood flooded his mouth and throat as a slim dagger punched through his entire neck. The metal made a shlick sound as it pulled out of the executioner's ruined throat and was replaced in the sheath of the new pony standing on the platform. The magic encasing the handle was a bright sun orange and the mare who was holding it was the same color as the magic with a yellow and blood red swirling mane. Twilight looked shocked, but quickly regained composure.
"Guards!" she called with a slight hint of fear in her voice, "Kill the prisoner and his associate. Now!"
