"Ugh, why does it have to be Monday?" Nile mumbled in a daze.
Nile grumbled and groaned and got out of bed, really not wanting to, but she has a job to do and can't afford to miss a pay day.
Nile went to the kitchen to get a pot of her morning brew started. Upon opening her pantry cupboard she found that she had no coffee left. In a huff she went to go take her morning shower instead. She hit the taps on to make the water nice and warm, and hopped into her tub for her shower. Feeling the warm water dampen her mane and coat, her wings fluttered as she let out a sigh of relief. She scrubbed hard to get the dirt out of her coat and rejuvenate her mane's luscious shine.
Stepping out of the shower and out of the bathroom, her mane reflected a beautiful shine that would catch any stallion's attention for miles. Before leaving for work she threw on her work outfit, consisting of an orange industrial work vest overtop her signature green hoodie, with a matching orange hard hat.
"I guess one day without coffee won't hurt." she thought out loud.
After putting on her work outfit, she hopped off of her couch and made her way out the door, taking her saddlebag along with her. She had promised to meet Raindrops outside of the building today. Only a week ago, Nile had quit her job at the weather factory and took an empty spot at another job, which was the same moving company that Raindrops works for. After a while of flying, she arrived at the Cloudsdale Mover Depot, the company Nile now worked for. Raindrops was waiting outside, contempt with a smile on her face.
"Nile! There you are." Raindrops shouted, planting a hug on the purple mare as she landed.
"Oof, hey Raindrops!" Nile responded, being squeezed by Raindrops' tight hug.
"How was your weekend? Do anything interesting?" Raindrops asked.
"It was good, I read Atlas Neighed by Ayn Brand!" Nile replied, smiling while making a squeak noise. "I can always lend it to you if you'd like to read it."
"I'm good, but thanks. I think we should head in now, don't wanna be late!" Raindrops nudged, pointing at the clock.
Nile and Raindrops made their way into the building, leaving 5 minutes to spare. The building is what you'd expect of a modern office building in Cloudsdale with white brick walls, dimly lit ceiling lights, and plush cloud floors. Nile and Raindrops made their way to the break room, where all the ponies sat around when work was not available. Today however was different. An important order had been placed to the moving company, and both Nile and Raindrops were to help out.
The foreman of the company made his way into the break room. He was a tall, older pony with a muscular build, a mane going grey and a work vest draped across his body. He shut the door and pulled out a clipboard. After getting attendance of everyone who was there, he removed his glasses and placed them in his vest pocket.
"Alright, we've got an order for a sofa to be delivered to Ponyville. Nile and Raindrops, you two will be delivering a sofa to Carousel Boutique." the foreman announced, his commanding voice causing an echo.
Raindrops beamed up with excitement. Carousel Boutique was one of the best fashion places in Equestria to go to, as it's run by the glamorous unicorn Rarity, a fashion prodigy. Nile however wasn't so excited, seeing as she was sitting at the same table they were both at, except she was asleep. Raindrops gave a nudge to Nile to wake her up.
"Nile wake up, we've got a call." the yellow pegasus whispered.
Nile opened her eyes and stretched her hooves in front of her. The lack of coffee was noticeable to her, as she fell asleep on the job, something she never does. She got off of her seat and followed Raindrops to the back, where all the moving trucks were parked. They hopped into the back to secure their order and alerted the driver to go.
A few minutes later, the truck landed down in front of Carousel Boutique. Nile and Raindrops hopped out of the back, and with the help of the truck's passenger, began unloading the sofa from the back. Raindrops left Nile and the other pony to unload and bring it to the door, while Raindrops was the one to knock.
"Coming!" a female voice called out, in a sing-songy manner.
The door swung open to reveal Rarity. Her purple mane and tail were especially gorgeous from a morning shower, and was donning a pink bathrobe.
"Hello ma'am, your brand-new sofa has arrived." Raindrops greeted, handing the unicorn a clipboard to sign for.
The sofa was lugged into the extravagant shop. Clothes and outfits from many styles and colors could be seen and made Nile smile at the sight of them. Rarity recognized Nile from a trip to Canterlot that Nile was also at.
"Nile is that you?" Rarity asked the purple pegasus.
"Oh, uh hey Rarity!" Nile responded, in a daze.
While lugging the sofa into the building, Nile started feeling more fatigued. Her side of the sofa was left down as she stumbled onto the floor, landing on her rump. Raindrops took notice of this.
"Nile you don't look so good today." Raindrops commented, standing her friend up on her hooves.
"I'm fine Rain, just..." Nile replied, before drifting into sleep again.
"Nile!" Raindrops shouted.
"Muffin tops...what?" Nile mumbled in a daze.
"I think you should take the day off, you're not looking so good." Raindrops suggested, rubbing her friend's mane.
Nile stumbled to the back of the moving truck and retrieved her saddlebag. Letting out a big yawn, she threw the bag over top her back and flew back next to Raindrops.
"What will you tell Foreman Joe?" Nile asked from curiosity.
"I'll tell him you're not feeling so hot," Raindrops added, stroking her friend's back, "now go get yourself some rest."
"Thanks, you're a pal." Nile mumbled.
After their little chat, Nile spread her wings and took off in a slow, but easy flight home. Nile didn't live too far away distance-wise from Ponyville, in fact she lived relatively close to Rarity's boutique, but she had never put the thought to moving to the ground. Her first stop was to the Cloudsdale Coffee House. The coffee house was a relatively small building full of interesting characters, like an old cowpony who came from Appleloosa a year before, an old Wonderbolts cadet, and even on occasion Spitfire would come in, to have a cup or to even meet fans.
"One please." Nile ordered.
A minute later, one of the cashiers brought out a tin of her favorite brew and handed it to Nile. She put down the five bits and made her way home, stuffing the tin into her saddlebag. A solid five minutes went by and Nile was back at her apartment complex. Nile exchanged hellos and a brief conversation with one of the tenants, Blossomforth, and then headed straight up to her room.
Nile rested her saddlebag down on the kitchen's counter and hopped down onto the couch. Thunderlane was at work so he wouldn't be there to wake Nile up every two minutes for something he'd need help with. She laid her head down onto the couch's soft arm rest and began drifting off to sleep.
Nile awoke a couple hours later, and it was exactly noon. Thoughts went through the mare's head as for what to do for the rest of the day, as sleeping in all day is not an option. She raised herself off of the couch and went to the kitchen to wake herself up.
Spotting her saddlebag on the counter, she found the coffee grinds and gently placed them down onto the counter. Nile worked fast and even if she did she made the coffee just how she liked it. Pouring some into her favorite mug, labelled "World's Best Daughter" as a gift from her father, she took a few minutes to breathe in the aroma and finish her brew. She finished up her coffee and put it in the sink to wash.
After her coffee, Nile sat back down in the sofa and slouched for a few minutes out of boredom. After a while of tapping her hoof on the couch armrest and whistling, she figured she should do something for the rest of the day.
"Ugh I'm so bored." she growled, continuously tapping her hoof on the armrest.
She took a look at her coffee table in front of her, and noticed her library card for Golden Oak Library down in Ponyville. She took a look at the card for a few seconds scratching her mane, currently in a state of bed head, when an idea popped into her head.
"There we go, I should go rent a book," Nile thought, "I also have to return the other book anyway."
Getting up off the sofa, she picked up the library card and the book she had rented earlier, retrieving her saddlebag and heading out the door. She flapped her wings a few times to prepare for the flight, and took off faster than a pony during cider season. She reached Ponyville, and the library, within a few minutes of smooth, but quick flight.
Stepping into the large tree library, she was greeted to a whole array of books, of which Nile was purely ecstatic for. While searching for a book turned out to be a bit of a challenge, she thought she would return a book before taking one out. Ringing a nearby bell to signal for help, she was greeted by the library owner, Twilight Sparkle, donning a pair of reading glasses. Despite being a princess, her loyalty to her library was present.
"Welcome to Golden Oak Library," Twilight greeted, with a smile, "how may I help you?"
"Uh, hi Princess Twilight.." Nile stuttered, "I was coming to return a book, and maybe check one out.."
"No need to be nervous," Twilight giggled, "Now what is it you'd like to return?"
Nile reached into her saddlebag and handed the book to the purple alicorn. She took notice of the book.
"Interesting choice madam, I've read this one a few times over and it's great." Twilight remarked, using her magic to place the book on the shelf where it used to be.
"Now what would you like to take out, miss...?" Twilight asked, curious of her name.
"Oh uh, it's Nile your highness," she squeaked, "I'd like to take out this one."
The book in question Nile pointed to turned out being a Daring Do book, more specifically the first in the series. Nile admittedly had never read the series since action books never intrigued her, but she thought she'd give it a shot.
"Ah yes, the Daring Do novel," Twilight gushed, "I love the series, great author and stories!"
Nile took notice of her gleeful nature mentioning the books. If the princess liked it, it had to have been good.
"I'll take the first two books, if that's okay." Nile asked.
"That's great, another reader," Twilight beamed, "I'll need to see your library card."
Nile pulled out the card and handed it to Twilight. With a few brief quill strokes, she signed the card as to what book it was and the owner, and slipped it in the first book. She levitated the second one to her and placed it on top of the first.
"Alright miss Nile, everything is in order," Twilight said happily, "have a great day!"
"Thanks, you too princess!" she gleefully shouted, exiting the door.
Now out of the library, Nile decided to go to the park and read for a while to kill some time. She looked around the park, with school children playing with eachother and their mothers watching from the bench, a large jungle gym that they were playing on, and a large oak tree. She felt it had the perfect shade, but a thought crossed her head.
"How will I be able to focus with the screaming kids?" Nile grunted, walking past the oak tree.
Nile continued trekking on until she came across an isolated part of plain grass over a hill from the park. There was a large tree sitting by it's lonesome, accompanied by a small rock that she could lay herself onto to read.
"Perfect!" she squeaked, looking at the nice isolated area.
Making her way over to the tree, she laid down and pulled out one of the Daring Do novels. She became rather enthralled in the story, not putting the book down besides to have a bite to eat or to relieve herself. She sat under this tree reading as much as she could, finding the character of Daring Do to be very interesting and brave; something Nile wished she was.
She kept reading her book until she noticed the time, she had been under the tree reading for a whole two hours. Nile was known for getting heavy into a book and not wanting to stop reading, so this was no surprise.
"I better get home, Thunderlane will be wondering where I am." Nile concluded.
She put the book back into her saddlebag and sat up, slinging the saddlebag over top of her. She flapped her wings to get ready for the trip home, but the flapping got her mind thinking. Nile had not done any kind of racing competitions since she was still in school, and her mind came to an idea.
"Hmm, I haven't raced in a while," Nile thought out loud, "perhaps I should see if I've still got it."
Nile set down her saddlebag by the tree, flapped her wings once again, and took off into the sky as fast as she could. The wind rushing through her mane made her feel alive, like how she used to be back in her track and field days at Cloudsdale High School. She did a few laps from the tree to an adjacent tree a few yards away before starting to feel sluggish. While she did become easily exhausted, Nile still knew she had it.
"Let\s try one more trick..." she thought out loud.
Soaring rather high into the sky, Nile positioned herself for a feat of intense precision and timing. The trick was called The Phoenix. The trick's name came from the technique, which was to fly down to the ground diagonally as fast as possible, and just before hitting the ground make a sudden ascend while doing a barrel roll. It implies the fall, but spectacular re-birth of the phoenix. It was Nile's favorite trick.
She saw her target; the large tree.
Her eyes shrunk with intensity as she started speeding down to Earth. Her speed was a personal best, on a scale measurable of 7.8 wingpower. The breeze passing through her body made her feel completely alive, like she had nothing to lose as her descent continued.
Suddenly she regained focus on her situation and saw she was coming down fast. Her precise intensity turned into a panicked shriek as she noticed how close she was. She tried pulling up as quickly as she could, but the sheer speed of her descent rendered any attempt of escape futile.
A loud thud could be heard, as she hit the tree.
Nile awoke a full ten minutes later, feeling throbbing pain in her head, wings and groin areas. She grunted and groaned, and raised herself off the grass. It turns out that she had hit groin-first into the tree, the sudden stop tensing her back stiffening her wings, and falling to the ground bounced her head off the hard dirt below.
Slinging her saddlebag over herself, she let out a cough which had some blood in it but wasn't severe, and then made her way home. She took to a slow glide home as she didn't want to risk another crash. Her wings ached with each flutter they made, her head throbbed, and her marehood area was also in pain. She just wanted to get home quickly and lie down.
Arriving at the apartment sometime later, Nile knocked on the door of the apartment. The door swung open to reveal Thunderlane standing in the doorway. It only took a second for him to notice Nile in a state of disrepair.
"Nile are you okay?" Thunderlane asked in concern, "what happened to you?"
"Just had a bit of a crash, it's no big deal." Nile replied, rubbing her temples.
"I think you should get some rest, you look like you're hurt." Thunderlane said, allowing Nile to come inside.
Nile stepped into their apartment and went into her bedroom, Thunderlane following close by. She opened the door and made her way under the covers into bed. She let out an exasperated sigh and pulled the bedsheet over top of her. She tapped Thunderlane on the shoulder to get his attention.
"Laney?" Nile rung.
"Yes Nile?" he answered.
"Do you think you could get me some tomato soup?" she suggested, giving him an innocent little smile.
"Sure thing!" he beamed, stepping out of the room.
After her door clicked shut, Nile put her hooves behind her head and relaxed. Her ever-so-aching body started to relax and not feel as tense as she was on the flight home. She was also exhausted and just needed some time to herself. That last part popped into her head as she looked into her closet.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt for tonight," Nile thought out loud, "just for today."
Nile groaned and got out of bed. Stretching her limbs so they wouldn't ache, she made her way to the closet adjacent to the bed. Ever since her reveal she did some re-arranging in her closet, a lot of her more colorful outfits in display, but still hiding her foalish items in the dark chest in the back of the closet.
Reaching into the trunk, she pulled out a bottle of foal powder, and a diaper. She closed the trunk, the closet, and hurried her way onto the bed. Properly applying powder, she taped up the diaper and got back underneath the covers, in perfect time as Thunderlane came back into the room almost instantly.
"Alright Nile," Thunderlane greeted with a dinner tray, "tomato soup just how you like it."
"With the crackers crunched into it?" she asked.
"You bet." Thunderlane answered.
Thunderlane handed the tray to Nile, who put the tray on the side of her as she sat up. Only when Nile put down the tray did she notice that there was a drink on the tray as well. It appeared to be in a bottle. She picked the bottle up and looked at it.
"Also just the way you liked it." he smiled, stepping out of the room.
Nile took another look at the bottle, and then at her bedroom door to see if it was shut. Once it was secure, she began suckling onto the bottle for the cold milk, soothing her stomach and rejuvenating her senses. She kept drinking until it was gone, which lead her to the soup. It smelt so good to her, smelling like one of mother Dawnheart's old soups.
After sipping the last of the delicious tomato soup, she set the tray down on the floor along with the bottle and laid her head down onto the pillow. The soft cloud material of the pillow gave her head a nice soft relief from her pain, and the bed soothed her aching wings and back. She pulled the covers back up and nodded off to sleep for the rest of the day.
Nile awoke the next morning. The long sleep she had gotten had really done wonders for her nagging pains and her sleeplessness. She let out a loud yawn as she sat up and stretched her limbs, but something felt different. She noticed her rump felt colder and wetter than before, remembering she had the diaper on all night.
"Oh, right." Nile mumbled, pulling off the covers.
Getting out of bed, she discarded of her used garment and hopped into the bathroom for her morning shower. The hot water was just the trick to wake her up and felt equally nice on her coat. She made sure to clean off all the excess dirt and blood from her crash the previous afternoon. She took a little longer than normal, as the water was too good for her to resist.
Hopping out of the shower, she gave herself a quick shake-dry and threw on her favorite hoodie. She stepped out of the bathroom, made herself some coffee and drank it as fast as she could since she was in a hurry. She threw on her work vest and hat, took her saddlebag and quickly flew out of the door, as to not be late.
Cloudsdale in the morning was rather beautiful. The sun had started rising not too long ago, leaving a nice shade of orange mixed with blue to be rising into the sky. Mothers were taking their children to school, and their detest for having to go was easily noticed, by the mixture of groaning, pouting and overall attentiveness.
Making it to work with minutes to spare, she trotted happily into the main break room where everypony was waiting. She sat down at a table where Raindrops was sitting, taking a sip from a small silver thermos. She pulled up a chair and sat down next to her.
"Hey Raindrops." Nile greeted, wiping away sweat from her face.
"Hey yourself," Raindrops commented, "are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I was just in a rush to get here." Nile answered.
Nile and Raindrops spent the next two minutes sitting patiently, Nile tapped her hoof on the table over and over to Raindrop's annoyance, before the foreman finally stepped into the break room.
"Alright, Nile and Raindrops," Foreman Joe called out, "you two will be assisting a family for a big move across town. Go get ready."
Both ponies got up off their seats and hopped into one of the moving trucks. The trip was not too long as the office was not too far from their destination, though the same could not be said about their moving location. The house they arrived at was rather run-down, but the owners looked to have been in good standing. Perhaps it was just a case of "old house" as they preferred to call it.
Stepping out of the truck, the crew proceeded to the front of the house to greet the family and file the paperwork. Raindrops was in charge of paperwork, while Nile and her male colleague Otto began moving box after box into the truck. The packages were all relatively light, but the furniture was quite the job as antique armoires and seating were being moved into the big truck.
The last thing to be moved was a large living room sofa. It had to at least sit three or four ponies. Using her strong hind legs, and Otto's upper body strength, lifting it was no problem. They made their way to the truck lugging the heavy sofa, when Nile came to a stop, giving Otto a strain on lifting. A strange sound could be heard, almost like running water.
"Woah Nile," Otto exclaimed, looking at the purple mare, "what're you trying to do, break my back?"
Nile stood there in silence, as Otto realized what was going on. As it turns out, Nile had not known until it happened, but she had started to urinate with no discernible reason as to why. She lowered her end of the couch as she looked down and saw her puddle, and looked at it in silent horror.
Raindrops raced over to the two ponies, since she saw both of them had not lifted the couch into the truck. She turned to Otto who was looking rather dumbfounded.
"Otto what's the deal?" Raindrops asked, holding her clipboard.
"We were just lifting this couch here, and Nile just started peein' for no reason." Otto explained, with a furrowed brow the whole time.
Raindrops looked down beneath Nile and saw that Otto's remark was indeed correct.
"Nile?" Raindrops whispered, "are you okay?"
Nile stood there in silence and looked over at Raindrops, with tears in her eyes.
"It just..." Nile whispered, choking up, "I didn't feel it coming.."
"Nile you better get that checked out," Raindrops suggested, petting her friend's mane, "it doesn't look good."
Then suddenly, Nile took off without a word. Quiet but audible sobs were heard coming from the purple pegasus as she took off down to Ponyville. She made her way down to Ponyville General Hospital to see if she could figure what was going on. Opening the doors, she walked up to the front desk and rung the bell. The mare behind the desk turned around to answer her.
"Ma'am do you think I could get the doctor to look at me today?" Nile asked, to the receptionist.
"Sorry, she's booked through to today, I can get you an appointment tomorrow if you'd like?" the receptionist suggested.
"That'll do, thanks." Nile shrugged, hanging her head low.
"And what is your name, miss?" the receptionist asked.
"Nile," she replied, "last name Dawnheart."
"Alright, miss Dawnheart," the receptionist repeated, "I can book an appointment for 12 tomorrow, if you can make that?"
"I can." Nile sighed.
After that, Nile made her way out of the hospital, crestfallen. She had to wait a whole day just to figure out what is wrong with her. She wanted to scream but she couldn't.
Back at home, she went into her room for the rest of the day, only leaving to get a snack or something to drink. She was not happy.
Nile awoke the next morning to the same feeling she did on Tuesday. She had put on another diaper for extra assurance.
Following her routine of a morning shower and coffee, Nile sat on her sofa waiting for the appointment to come closer. She watched as the clock ticked closer to 12 PM, so she got up off her couch taking her saddlebag with her, and heading out the door. Raindrops was alerted of Nile's appointment, so she was to explain Nile's absence.
Making her way to the hospital, she went inside and sat down in the waiting room. She picked up a magazine and began reading it to pass the time. She had read for a solid ten minutes before seeing her view become darkened by a large shadow. She looked up to see the receptionist looking down at her.
"Miss Dawnheart," the receptionist alerted, "the doctor will see you now."
Nile put down the magazine and stood up.
"Second door on the right." the receptionist instructed.
She made her way down the hallway and found the door. The doctor was actually a nurse, as the door read the name "Nurse Redheart", much to Nile's relief. She was never comfortable telling doctors about her personal problems, so a nurse just made her feel relieved.
She stepped into Nurse Redheart's room and was greeted with the sweet, recognizable scent of lavender, and the medical degrees on the wall accompanying portraits of sunsets and lovely mountain landscapes. She took notice to the medical equipment, including stethoscopes, thermometers, and a jar full of Popsicle sticks. Nile took a seat and waited for Nurse Redheart to enter.
After a few minutes, in came Nurse Redheart. She was a beautiful mare with a shiny white coat, pink mane in a rather large bun, and pale blue eyes. She also had a big red medical cross right on her flank, perfect nurse eh? She came walking in with a clipboard.
"Hello miss Dawnheart, I'm Nurse Redheart," she greeted, "how can I help you today?"
Nile didn't say anything at first, but her face turned red in embarrassment.
"It's a personal problem, nurse." Nile sighed.
"I see, what kind of problem is it miss Dawnheart?" Nurse Redheart asked.
"I've...been having accidents." Nile explained, her face still bright red.
"Oh dear, how long has this been going on for?" Nurse Redheart wondered, writing on her clipboard.
"Since Monday, ma'am." Nile answered, burying her face in her hooves.
Nile just watched as Redheart scribbled on her clipboard.
"How did these accidents start happening, what was the cause? Redheart inquired.
Nile gulped and started to explain.
"I was just outside of the Ponyville Park reading a book. But after a while I got bored and wanted to fly and do some tricks I used to do in school. I ended up crashing into a tree after messing up some neat trick I tried to imitate, and my head, wings and groin have been sore since."
Listening to her story had Redheart intrigued. With each detail that Nile told her, she wrote each down with rather perfect penmanship. After she finished, she put the quill behind her ear and turned her attention back to Nile.
"I would like to take you to get an X-ray, just to see if anything happened to your region." Redheart suggested.
"Okay." Nile replied meekly.
Nile got up off her seat and followed Nurse Redheart down the hall, to be X-rayed. At this point she was feeling nervous about what Redheart might find out. She already knew something was going on, but she was not sure of the extent of the damage. Nervously steeping behind the X-ray machine, she stood still as a statue and awaited her diagnosis. After a minute of taking pictures, she stepped out from behind the X-ray.
"Okay miss Dawnheart," Nurse Redheart said, "go back into my office and I'll be back with the X-ray shortly"
Nile opened the door, and reluctantly stepped outside and headed back into Nurse Redheart's office. Every step she took felt like another step to the gallows, as she felt that her diagnosis was not good. Sitting back down in Redheart's office, she was a mess. Her thoughts were driving her crazy, and butterflies were in her stomach the whole time. Five minutes roll by, and in comes Redheart with a familiar clipboard, a quill behind her ear, and now some X-rays on top of the clipboard's charts.
"Would you like the good news, or the bad news first?" Redheart requested, looking at Nile with a poker face.
"The good news, please." Nile answered, her heart racing.
"The good news is that your head and wings are fine, just a bit bruised." Redheart explained, checking information off her clipboard.
"Oh, that's a relief." Nile sighed.
"But what's the bad news?"
A faint knocking was heard by Thunderlane.
"Coming!" the stallion called out.
He rose himself off of his seat and threw down the book he was reading. He slowly opened the door, which revealed a familiar mare in a green hoodie. Her head was hung low and she looked upset.
"Nile, what's the matter?" Thunderlane asked.
Nile said nothing, and just walked into their apartment. She sat down on the sofa and said nothing. Thunderlane made his way over to her in an attempt to find out what was wrong with her. His heart ached whenever he saw her upset, considering she was one of his best friends. He put a hoof around her to show he was there for her, no matter the issue. Tears streamed down her face as she buried her face into Thunderlane's chest. He gave Nile a kiss on the forehead and rubbed his other hoof through her mane.
"Nile you know you can tell me anything." Thunderlane remarked, still stroking his friend's mane gently.
Nile removed her face from Thunderlane's chest and looked at him with wide eyes, which quickly shrunk. She wiped away tears from her face and sniffled, looking back down.
"I got bad news from the doctor." Nile replied, her voice cracking up.
Thunderlane grabbed Nile tight for a hug, her weeping simmered down a bit, but tears still fell. The news was even upsetting for her to think about, let alone tell her roommate.
"She said that-" in between sniffles, "I'm incontinent."
"Does that mean what I think it does? Thunderlane asked.
Nile nodded her head in agreement.
"I need to wear diapers, or else I'll be going to the bathroom anywhere." Nile answered, trying to regain her composure.
Thunderlane released his hug and got up off of the sofa. Nile was confused as to what he was doing. He tapped her on the shoulder and signaled her to follow him, into Nile's bedroom. Following behind the tall stallion, they both made their way into Nile's room. Thunderlane flicked on the lights and lit up the room, a lovely shade of green had coated the walls apart from the trim and the soft white cloud floor. He walked over to the bed and patted the edge of it.
"Lie down, Niley." Thunderlane requested, a smile present on his face.
Following his instructions, Nile walked over to the bed and laid down. Curiosity got the best of her, she started trying to peek as to see what Thunderlane was doing in her closet. She had a general idea, and she was sure of it.
When Thunderlane turned his attention back to the purple pegasus, he had retrieved a couple of diapers and a bottle of foal powder. He took the bottle and sprinkled some powder onto Nile's nether regions. The powder added both a pleasant aroma, and a tickle when it was applied. He then unfolded one of the diapers and instructed Nile to rise up. She was well aware of what he was doing, so she raised up and allowed the soft garment to be slipped underneath. Thunderlane finished his job by properly taping it together, as to be rather tight but comfortable on her rump.
"Wow, I don't know what to say Thunderlane." Nile wondered, with a smile on her face.
"Anything for a friend, plus it's good training if I ever have a kid." Thunderlane laughed.
Nile got up off the bed and gave her hind legs a stretch, as to let her new padding feel right. Afterwards, a thought came into her head.
"Say, Thunderlane?" Nile inquired.
"Yes Nile?" he answered, glancing over at Nile.
"How come you got two diapers?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"For support." Thunderlane responded, himself lying down on the bed now.
Nile watched as Thunderlane did the same procedure he did to Nile, but to himself. Thunderlane was actually putting on a diaper to support Nile through her troubled time. After he was finished with his job, he took to notice the new feeling his rump had come to feel, but he figured he'd get used to it. Seeing Thunderlane in the same situation (albeit for only tonight) put a big smile on Nile's face, and her confidence was high.
Later in the evening, Nile and Thunderlane were on the sofa watching some TV together. On TV was a drama show involving an older earth pony teacher diagnosed with a terminal illness, who goes into an illegal candy operation with a former student. It was quite a riveting show, and they had been watching it for weeks now.
"That was quite an episode, eh?" Nile asked, poking Thunderlane.
"It was alright." Thunderlane remarked.
"Alright?" Nile questioned, "Even the part where he finally got that deal with the crazy candy guy?"
"Okay that was kinda cool." he laughed, resting a pillow on his lap.
Shifting positions to get comfortable, she heard a faint sound. And then a feeling overcame her that she was familiar with.
"Uh, Thunderlane?" Nile whispered.
"Yes Nile?" he responded, looking at the mare.
"I just..." Nile said, trailing off the end of her sentence.
"You did?" Thunderlane asked, taking a glance and noticing that she was right.
Nile got up off the couch and stretched her limbs, as they had been aching for a good half hour. She then turned her attention to Thunderlane and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Do you think you could help me?" Nile requested, with a blush on her face.
"I can't." Thunderlane said, adjusting his seating position.
"You can't, or you won't?" she replied, staring at Thunderlane.
"Can't." he retorted.
Nile just went behind the stallion into the kitchen area. She took notice that Thunderlane had been fidgeting quite a bit with his seating position, and his answers seemed to be a little nervously spoken. So, she snuck up to Thunderlane, and when she was close enough, she slammed on the back of the sofa with a loud "boo". This caused him to fly up off his seat and flop back down on the floor. Nile fell on the floor in laughter as she turned to look at Thunderlane, who looked like he had seen a ghost. Nile took notice that she even caused Thunderlane to wet himself.
"I'm sorry Laney, I couldn't resist." she chuckled.
"That wasn't funny." Thunderlane groaned
"You're right, I'm sorry Laney." she apologized, "now let's go get changed."
"You mean you." Thunderlane replied, tearing off the used garment and throwing it away.
After an awkward change, Nile reached up and gave Thunderlane a large hug.
"Again, I'm sorry for earlier." Nile said, with a sheepish grin on her face.
"It's okay Niley," he answered hugging her back, "now get some rest, you've got a big day tomorrow."
Nile nodded in agreement and got into bed. Looking to the side of her bed, she found her stuffed bunny and hugged it tight, pulling the sheets over herself. Snuggling her bunny, she started to drift off to sleep. Thunderlane stroked Nile's mane once and then made his way out of Nile's bedroom, shutting off the light on his way out.
The sun began to beam through the curtains of Nile's room as the day rose. Nile awoke, her bunny still in her arms and her mind cleared. Sitting up, she stretched her limbs and her wings with a pop, and getting out of bed. Only when she got out of bed was she aware she was wet, so she stripped off her diaper and her hoodie and headed to the bathroom for a shower.
After her shower was finished and she was all dry, she went back into her room to get dressed. When she returned, she saw Thunderlane sitting on her bed, waiting for her. She put on her hoodie and then laid down on the bed, where Thunderlane proceeded to help her the rest of the way. After which, Nile began to pack with Thunderlane.
"Alright, I packed you two spares in case you-"
"I know, I know." Nile interrupted, a blush coming across her face.
Thunderlane grabbed a bottle of foal powder and placed it into her saddlebag, covering it and the spare diapers with some of her work papers and an array of other things. He then packed her a lunch of a sandwich and a fresh apple, and handed Nile a thermos which had some coffee in it, noticeable by the aroma.
"Thanks, I could really use this on a day like today." Nile smiled.
Looking into her closet, Thunderlane was thinking of anything else Nile might need. Drawing a blank, he took a look over at her and looked at her padded rump.
"Surely you don't want to go outside with your diaper exposed?" Thunderlane remarked, a playful grin on his face.
"You're right Laney, but what am I going to use to cover this thing?" Nile asked, smacking the side of her padding.
Thunderlane looked at her closet again and pulled a few bottoms from her clothes hangers. They included some small skirts, sweat pants, and a few pairs of baggy work pants. Nile pointed to a bright blue skirt that he had picked out for her, so she took it from him and inspected it. It was a longer flowing skirt with a simple design on the bottom of the fabric, resembling that of a tidal wave. Taking the shirt, she put it on over her rump and looked at herself in the bedroom's mirror.
"This will do nicely." Nile said, looking at herself in the mirror.
Thunderlane zipped up Nile's saddlebag and handed it to her. Slumping it over herself, she picked up her hard hat and put it upon her head. Nile left her bedroom and proceeded to the door, with Thunderlane close behind.
"Hey. Nile?" Thunderlane whispered, catching Nile's attention, "you're very brave."
Thunderlane then reached over and gave her a big hug. In his embrace she felt a mixture of happiness, and confidence, though her mind still shared an ounce of worry and fear.
"Thank you." Nile responded, with a genuine smile.
Nile opened the door out of the apartment and left shortly after. The morning sun glistened off of her smooth, wet mane as she flew to her destination, the wetness causing a bit of a chilly sensation on her head. Her mind started to wander as her casual flight picked up speed, until reality came crashing back to her quickly.
She remembered her crash the other day, so her speed quickly decreased. She also worried of going too fast as to not allow her skirt to fly up and reveal what was underneath, or she would never hear the end of it. Landing infront of the complex, Nile was greeted to the less-than-chipper voice of Raindrops, who wore an expression of pure apathy.
"Oh uh, hi Nile." Raindrops muttered, yawning loudly and stretching.
"Hello Raindrops!" Nile greeted, waving a hoof to her grumpy-looking friend.
"Wh-What's with the skirt?" Raindrops asked, rubbing one of her eyes softly, "Special occasion?"
Nile was hoping that she would not ask about the skirt. But she did. Crap.
"I just want to feel pretty today." Nile replied, stuttering a bit trying to feign an answer that Raindrops wouldn't think was a lie.
Raindrops simply nodded and both made their way into the complex. They entered the main break room and sat down at a table next to each other. Raindrops watched as Nile sat at the table and looked around, while she laid her head on the table and slowly drifted off to sleep. No one would have known had Raindrops not been the type to snore. It became clear to Nile that Raindrops wasn't grumpy, just really tired.
A couple hours went by, Raindrops was still napping and Nile was reading the newspaper while she waited. Today was a really slow day for the company, leaving most of the crew to sit around to talk among each other, or sleep. Nile was still reading her newspaper until she heard a familiar sound emitting from her, and a warmth forming. Nile squeaked softly and looked around as she finished, a deep blush coming across her face as she felt herself leaking slightly.
Oh no, why now?!, Nile thought to herself, and it's leaking...
Nile got up off the table slowly, trying to not disturb anyone and keep Raindrops asleep. While getting up, Nile accidentally bumped the table, shaking Raindrops back into consciousness as she yawned.
"Muffins.." Raindrops mumbled, shaking her head as she yawned.
"Oh uh, hi Raindrops!" Nile smiled, looking visibly nervous.
"Hi yourself, you look awful." Raindrops yawned, "what're you doing?"
"N-Nothing, I was just stretching." Nile replied, feigning stretching and sitting back down in her seat.
As Nile sat down, an audible squish was heard by Raindrops, who raised an eyebrow. Inspecting Nile, she noticed her nervous look, the skirt, and the sound she just made. She knew what was going on but she didn't say anything.
"Can I talk to you outside, Nile?" Raindrops asked.
Raindrops got out of her chair, Nile following close behind with her bag in hand. They made their way out to the back of the building, where no one usually was. Apart from two ponies having a conversation a few feet away, no one was outside to hear them. They went to a corner over by the side of the building, where Raindrops stuck her hoof in front of Nile's chest, signaling her to stop.
"Okay Nile, what's going on with the skirt? You look very nervous with it on." Raindrops asked, looking at Nile with motherly concern.
"Okay I'll tell you," Nile whispered, letting out a sigh, "truth is, I have a diaper under my skirt."
"Wait, why? Is something wrong?" Raindrops quizzed, wrapping a wing around Nile.
"I s-sorta crashed on Monday, and d-damaged something badly, the doctor said it's..." Nile said, before tears started to form in her eyes, "permanent." she let out with a whimper.
Raindrops wiped Nile's eyes and gave her a gentle hug, using one of her hooves to gently stroke the purple mare's mane.
"It's okay Nile, everything's going to be okay," Raindrops whispered to Nile, "let's just get you changed quickly and no one will know about it."
Raindrops opened the door to the break room, and Nile entered alongside her. Raindrops moved her wing away from Nile's back as to not draw unneeded attention to themselves. The break room had since filled up with more ponies than normal, making the walk into it a bit more uncomfortable for both mares.
While on their way to the bathroom, Nile seemed to have stopped a bit in her tracks. It caught her attention that her skirt had caught onto a rough edge on the break room's coffee counter. With a twitch of effort, she started to tug gently on the skirt to get it free from it's captor. Nile got a bit frustrated and gave a hard pull on the skirt, which had gotten it free, or so she thought.
As soon as she had tugged hard on her skirt, the soft fabric item was stripped from her waist as she fell flat on her face. When Nile rolled over onto her back, her expression changed from mildly anxious, to a look of utter horror as she noticed her skirt was off, revealing her sodden diaper to everyone in the room. Some snickering started from the back, while some laughter also was forming. Nile's ears flopped down as she eyes began to tear up, listening to the utter ridicule she was getting.
"Is that a diaper?" a stallion called out, covering his muzzle to stifle his laughter
"Ew, she peed in it!" a mare giggled, looking at Nile with disgust.
Nile just sat there, tears rolling down her face as the torment roared on, being called all sorts of demeaning names. It reminded her of her school days when she had a bed-wetting problem that got around her school, the kids would torment her just like her co-workers were doing now. Nile then got up, took her skirt and headed for the bathroom with Raindrops, but she turned around and shot everyone a death glare.
"Fuck you all! You're all cruel!" Nile shouted, heading back to the bathroom with Raindrops and slamming the door shut.
Raindrops, and everyone else especially, were caught off-guard from that last remark. One one hand Nile was never one to use such language, and her tone of voice was one of pure hatred and bitterness that no one had ever heard before. She sat up against a wall and sobbed loudly, Raindrops stroking her mane softly and hugging her tight.
"I j-just want to die!" Nile shouted, her voice choking up as she buried her face into Raindrops' chest.
"Nile, don't say such things." Raindrops gasped, pulling Nile's head back and kissing her forehead lightly.
Raindrops laid Nile on her back, and pulled her bag over to change her. As she was being changed, she was trying to regain her calm composure, wiping her tears away and breathing slower. It seemed to be working, as when Raindrops finished her job, Nile sat back up and hugged Raindrops, and kissed her cheek lightly. Still visibly upset, she leaned against Raindrops as the yellow mare held her tight for a few moments, sitting in complete silence.
After a good five minutes together, Nile felt ready to face the ponies outside again with Raindrops. She got up from the floor and pulled Raindrops with her outside, slinging her skirt over her back instead of putting it on. The ponies looked back to Nile and Raindrops, both looked upset as some of the ponies continued to snicker at Nile.
"It's okay, snicker if you want," Nile uttered, calmly as her ears went down, "but is it really so funny to laugh at a mare for her disability?"
The ponies looked at each other as their ears fell, looking back at Nile with expressions of regret. They had no idea that Nile had a serious problem, they had just assumed she was some kind of freak. While she still did like to play foal, she was a lot more sensitive about it at this point.
"Uh, we didn't know." a blue mare said weakly, covering her muzzle.
"It's okay, and I understand why you laughed," Nile said, turning a bit to the side, "a grown mare in a diaper is weird, but it's what I have to live with."
Nile sighed and sat down at a table with Raindrops. The room was silent until a few ponies got up and sat with Nile and Raindrops.
"We're awful sorry Nile, we just thought you were being weird." a stallion spoke up, putting a hoof on Nile's shoulder softly.
Nile simply nodded her head, acknowledging that she understood what he meant. She'd never reveal her little side.
"I would have thought the same if it were you, Razor." Nile giggled, resting her hoof on his, causing the stallion to smirk.
Nile started to feel relaxed, after a tense situation less than ten minutes before, since Nile was rather quick to forgive those who wronged her. She gave a few of her coworkers a hug that they had requested, as sort of an apology gesture for their mean-spirited comments. The conversations went on for a while, some went to do their jobs but some stayed behind to talk, especially with Nile. She enjoyed the attention, it made her feel important, though she didn't really prefer the questions about her diaper, or especially when they poked at it.
After the work day ended, Nile said her goodbye and made way for home. What had went from a day turned sour, turned into a day she had dreamed of since her diagnosis, as her coworkers accepted her for her condition despite a bit of a sour introduction. With the wind blazing through her mane and against her skirt, she felt as beautiful as she dreamed to be as she flew through the bright blue sky.
Making her way back to her apartment complex, she made her way through to her apartment and opened the door. She entered the apartment with a gleaming smile as she noticed Thunderlane, who had turned his attention from a milkshake to her. He took notice of her ecstatic appearance, which put a small smile on his face.
"Hey Nile, how was work?" Thunderlane asked, taking a sip of his milkshake.
"Oh, I can't wait to tell you." Nile responded, removing her skirt and sitting on the couch.
Nile sat on the couch and wrapped a wing around Thunderlane, and gave him a hug as they sat in silence...
A month after her diagnosis, her life had changed for the better and she was happy. She had gotten comfortable with being open about her condition, preferring to not wear any kind of skirt or anything to cover her diaper anymore. She expected the occasional odd look or stare, but it was easier for her socially, and aerodynamically, to be without it.
Her appearance had also changed, as she decided to change up her mane, and even dying her coat a new color. She had experimented with different mane styles in the past, and had thought of changing her coat color for a year. She removed the red in her mane from her rebellious days, and had made her mane into a pretty ponytail with long bangs in the front, to give her a more youthful appearance to match her young age.
Her coat was dyed to a soft grey, which went well with her new hair as she thought. She was always fond of lighter coat colors, and also having a dark coat color made her diaper a blatant target for attention. She thought grey would be a good color to make her mane stand out more instead of what she didn't want to get attention.
She also began wearing green contact lenses, as she felt it was a far nicer eye color than her natural color, which was a bright sky blue color. It was also her favorite color.
Apart from those changes, and some of her diaper changes, she is still the lovable mare that her coworkers, her friends, and her family know her as. And she is okay with that.
But in her pictures, she likes to keep the diaper off. She has her reasons.
