Starbloom’s First Nightmare Night
Starbloom made her way home from school, smiling happily and looking around as the town was being decorated for Nightmare Night. It would be her first one since coming to this place and she was excited.
She trotted up to the library and opened the door, the small crystal on her headband shimmered a faint purple as a soft blue aura wrapped around the door handle. She went inside and pushed the door closed. “Mom, I’m home.” She called out lifting the saddlebags off her back and placing them by the front door.
“Welcome home dear.” Twilight called back from the kitchen, “I’m in the kitchen. Did you have a good day at school?”
“Yes mama,” Starbloom answered as she walked into the kitchen. Twilight was working on dinner. “Where is Spike?” She asked looking around, normally Spike cooked since Twilight wasn’t that good at it.
“He’s at the market getting candy for tonight.” She answered chuckling softly, “After he finally admitted to eating the candy we already got.” She added, setting a sandwich on the table for Starbloom along with some fresh berries and a cup of hot tea.
Starbloom giggled softly and smiled. “Sounds like Spike,” she said looking at the sandwich before taking a bite from it.
“Do you have plans for tonight Starbloom?” Twilight asked taking a seat across from her sipping from her own cup of tea.
Starbloom thought about the question for a moment. “Well, the Crusaders offered to take me with them gathering candy. But this is our first Nightmare Night together…” She pondered unsure what she wanted to do. She wanted to spend time with her friends, but she also wanted to spend time with her mother as well.
Twilight could see Starbloom was struggling with the choice between going out with her friends and staying with her. She smiled at Starbloom, “Starbloom, Nightmare Night is more for fillies and colts to have fun so you should spend it with your friends. Beside there will be time for you to spend with me as well. Besides you know us older ponies have our own fun planned as well,” Twilight assured.
Starbloom smiled, “Thank you mom, you’re right I’ll go out with my friends tonight.” She agreed, “Then I’ll meet up with you before the mayor's speech.” She added they heard the door open and Twilight went to go see who it was.
“Welcome back Spike, how did it go?” Twilight asked as she meets Spike in the library’s main hall.
“It was crazy; I had to go to three different confectionaries.” Spike grumbled as he sat down the bag full of candies. “But I did get enough I hope.”
“Well, maybe next year you won’t be tempted to eat all the candy we save up.” Twilight chuckled softly rubbing Spike’s head as she levitates the bag of candies off the ground and carries it into the kitchen.
“Not if I have to do that again.” Spike agreed following after her, he sees Starbloom at the table and smiles. “Hey Starbloom.”
“Hello Spike, welcome back.” Starbloom greeted smiling back at him. “Have fun shopping?”
Spike groaned softly climbing onto a chair to sit at the table. “Never shop for candy on Nightmare Night.” Spike mumbled resting his head on the table.
Starbloom giggled softly watching Spike, “That bad?” She asked finishing the berries before sending her plate to sink.
“There was barely any left.” Spike said looking up at Starbloom. “I was lucky to escape with my scales from the ponies doing last minute shopping.”
Twilight shook her head, chuckling softly as she looked over what he got before putting it into a large bowl. “I’m sure it wasn’t that bad Spike.”
“You ever try to get caramel drops from Mr. Waddle? That old pony can be pretty spry when he wants to be.” Spike remarked looking over at Twilight.
Starbloom giggled against softly getting off her chair, “I’m going to go get ready to meet up with the Crusaders.” She said smiling as she left the kitchen to go to her room, stopping by the front door to get her saddlebags first.
“Alright Starbloom dear, have fun.” Twilight called before looking over at Spike. “So, Mr. Waddle got the better of you?” Twilight asked tilting her head. Spike groaned and covered his head as Twilight chuckled again shaking her head cleaning up the dinner dishes.
Starbloom got to her room and put her saddlebags by her desk. She opened her wardrobe and got her costume for Nightmare Night. She had a hard time deciding what she wanted to go as but ended up decided on going as a detective from a book she was reading.
Her mother’s friends helped her get the stuff for it. Rarity made her saddlebags to use that had a bunch of small pouches and Pinkie Pie had a fedora and bubble pipe she could use. When she first tried the hat on it was too big but Rarity resized it for her with Pinkie’s permission.
She checked herself in the mirror after she got the costume on turning herself this way and that pondering. “Hmmm something is missing.” She mused out loud, before going to her desk and looked it over.
She picked up her magnifying glass and tucked it pouch. She then stuck a couple of scrolls into a pouch along with a quill, a capped ink well and other items she remembered detectives carried from the book and placed them into various pouches, smiling. “Perfect.”
“Starbloom, your friends are here.” Twilight called up to her from downstairs.
“Coming mom,” Starbloom called as she came downstairs. She saw her friends smiling at them as waving. “Hey girls you look great.”
“Thanks Starbloom, ya look great to.” Apple Bloom said smiling; she was dressed up as rodeo pony wearing a hat like Applejack’s, boots and a rope hanging from a belt.
Scootaloo nodded in agreement smiling; she was dressed up like a Wonderbolt though the uniform hood was pulled back. “Rainbow Dash got me a great costume this year.”
Starbloom smiled at Scootaloo nodding, “Yeah she did,” Starbloom agreed looking over at Sweetie Belle. Sweetie Belle was grinning dressed up in the outfit she wore during the talent show she, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo performed together.
“You like it, I thought it would be a good Nightmare Night costume this year, I’m going as a Rock Star” Sweetie Belle said grinning more.
Starbloom smiled and nodded, “Yeah it looks great, are Diamond Tiara and Noi going to join us as well?”
“They’ll meet us at the town square before we head out to the rest of the houses.” Scootaloo stated flexing her wings.
“Alright, let’s go meet up with them then.” Starbloom smiled looking over at her mom. “See you later mom, I’ll catch up with you before the mayor’s speech.”
“Alright dear, have fun.” Twilight smiled.
The four Crusaders left the library and headed to the town square to meet up with Diamond Tiara and Noi. It wasn’t hard to find the two, Diamond Tiara was dressed up as a farmer and Noi was dressed up as a zombie.
“Looks like Noi got her wish to be a zombie this year.” Scootaloo said spotting the two looking over at her friends.
“Ya, she looks really happy about it.” Apple Bloom smiled watching Diamond Tiara and Noi talk as they walked closer.
“Hey Tiara, Hey Noi.” Scootaloo greeted when they got close enough for the two to hear her. “Hope you haven’t been waiting to long.”
“Not that long, greetings Scootaloo, Apple Bloom, Starbloom, Sweetie Belle. It’s nice to see you again.” Diamond Tiara smiled as she greeted them. “Your costumes look wonderful.
“Thank you Diamond Tiara, you and Noi look very nice as well.” Sweetie Belle smiled, “I see you got to be a zombie this time Noi.”
Noi smiled and nodded. “Yea, I managed to talk my sister into it. She wanted me to be a princess again but in the end she let me be a zombie.”
“Yer are a farmer this year Tiara?” Apple Bloom asked looking Diamond Tiara over smiling.
“Yea, I’m normally stuck doing team costumes with Silver Spoon and she always wants to do high class or Canterlot style costumes. This is actually comfortable and easy to wear compared to some of the stuff I use to wear.” Diamond Tiara stated smiling at Apple Bloom. “Though, I do feel odd without my tiara.”
Apple Bloom nodded at her and smiled. “Yea you do look different without it.” Apple Bloom agreed before looking at the rest of the group. “Y’all ready to go?” She asked them smiling.
“Ready!” They all stated grinning before starting off into the night in search of candy and fun.
The six fillies spent a couple of hours collecting candy from the ponies of Ponyville before making their way back to the town center to meet up with their families for the mayor’s speech. Twilight was dressed up as Clover the Clever this time, and Spike dressed up as a Diamond Dog, which spooked Rarity at first until she figured out it was Spike.
“Did you have fun Starbloom?” Twilight asked smiling at her, when Starbloom came up next to her.
“Yes mom I did, it was a lot of fun.” Starbloom smiled looking up at her then up at stage hearing as the mayor clears her throat to get the crowd’s attention.
The mayor was dressed as a clown again. “Citizen of Ponyville, welcome to another wonderful Nightmare Night. This year we have been graced with a special guest, the princess of the night herself, Princess Luna!”
The ground gasped, before bowing out of respect as Princess Luna came out from behind the curtain and taking the mayor’s place. “You may rise,” Princess Luna started before continuing. “I made a promise to return, and a princess always keeps her promises. Please return to your festivities your princess wishes to mingle.”
The crowd looked at each other for a moment before it slowly started to disperse, each pony going off to have fun. Twilight and Starbloom went to greet Princess Luna as she made her way off the stage. “Greetings Princess Luna.” Twilight greeted smiling up at her.
“Greetings Twilight Sparkle, it is a pleasure to see you again.” Princess Luna said before looking down at Starbloom. “It’s nice to see you again as well Starbloom, I’m glad to see you are healthy.”
“It is good to see you again as well Princess Luna, thank you again for taking care of me in Canterlot.” Starbloom said bowing faintly.
“It was no trouble at all Starbloom, I am just glad you are well.” Princess Luna smiled turning her head searching the crowd of ponies. “If you will pardon me, I have a promise to keep.”
"Not at all Princess, have fun.” Twilight smiled at Princess Luna, looking over at Starbloom.
“Have a good night Princess Luna.” Starbloom smiled as well waving a hoof.
Princess Luna smiled back before going to find Pip, the small Colt she promised to visit again. Starbloom and Twilight smiled at each other. “Would you like to go play some games Starbloom?” Starbloom nodded up at Twilight and they went to the area setup with games to enjoy the rest of the night.
