Gourd Gorged
It was Nightmare Night, and all of the small fillies were running about, going door to door to collect candy from each house's inhabitants. With each house they visited, each pony received a small amount of candy, adding to their collection. Many ponies had a bag or sack to place their candy in, however some chose to eat it on the spot. Either way, the children were having a blast on this clear night.
With the town of Ponyville decorated for such occasion, there were many pumpkins carved out and fake spiders hanging by their webs. However the town wasn't the only one dressed up. All the inhabitants were dressed up in either funny, cool, or scary costumes. Even the mayor of Ponyville was sporting a rainbow wig and a red nose, claiming to be a clown. Unfortunately, the princess of the night herself couldn't be here, as she had to attend to other cities upon this night, but they knew she was going to have fun wherever she went.
Applejack was dressed as, well, an apple. It was her usual costume, as it promoted business as well as family heritage. She was running the bobbing for apples stand while many ponies young and old were taking their chances at the floating delicacies. At first there were plenty of apples within the bucket, but now the supply was getting low. As a pretty filly dressed as a Wonderbolt clenched the last apple with her teeth, Applejack shut her station down at about 8 o'clock. She wanted to see the rest of the fair as well.
The orange pony thought about the spider tossing table, as she was runner-up in the competition last year, but decided against it. Instead, she turned her attention to the large table that said "CONTEST" above it. With her competitive spirit and intense curiosity, she went and checked it out.
When Applejack arrived at the contest booth, she spotted the sign-up sheet. There were two other ponies signed up as well. Unfortunately she didn't recognize the names, but she signed up anyways. No matter what it was, she was going to win, and she knew that. The contest didn't start until 8:30, so she decided to visit and observe other booths while she waited. With nothing better to do, she went over to Pinkie Pie's comedy stand.
It seems Twilight Sparkle had the same idea as Applejack, as she was already observing the show with great interest. Pinkie was mid-presentation when AJ showed up. "...so I said 'OATMEAL, ARE YOU CRAZY?'" This joke made all of the little fillies laugh and smile. "Heya Twilight! Why don't you come and tell some jokes?"
She was obviously put on the spot, as she replied with. "U-u-u-uh... Okay." She trotted up to the stage and walked up to the mic. "Hi everypony! You want to hear some jokes?" She got a fairly good amount of "yeahs" from her audience, including Pinkie. "Okay, okay. Here's one: Two scientist ponies enter a restaurant and ask their waiter for a drink, and he replies with their options. The first pony doesn't like the choices, so he says "Hey, I'll just have some H2O." The second pony tells the waiter "I'll have some H2O too." Long story short, the second pony dies." Twilight looked onward at the crowd, hoping for a good response, but with no luck. Some of the fillies were crying and others were just bored.
"Tell a good science joke!" Was heard from the back of the audience.
"I would tell a science joke, but all the good ones argon!" Again, Twilight was struck by a quiet audience. "Ugh, forget it!" She stormed off stage and let Pinkie back into the spotlight. "Let's give a round of applause for my good friend Twilight! Although her sense of humour isn't the best, she definitely tried for you guys! Now, who wants to hear some REAL jokes?" The crowd erupted in a cheer, ready to be laughing and giggling into the night.
"Uh oh, I better go to the contest now if I want to make it on time." Spoke an upset earth pony who wanted to hear some real jokes. She left the stand and made her way to the table where they were finishing setting up.
It was clear what kind of contest it was; pies were piled high, waiting to be devoured by the contestants. All of them were the same kind and same size; twelve inch pumpkin pies. Applejack greedily licked her lips. Besides apple, pumpkin was her favourite pie.
The contestants took their seats in front of the pies. There were a total of four ponies in the competition. A small, pegasus stallion named Blue Feather, a large unicorn stallion named Boulder Smash, Applejack and everypony's favourite pegasus: Rainbow Dash. "Thought you could win without any competition hey Applejack? Well I'm about to prove you wrong, because that trophy is as good as mine!" Rainbow told Applejack, clearly confident that she was going to win.
"Have you forgotten what kind of competition this is Rainbow? It's an eatin' contest, so are ya willin' to risk your figure for some silly little trophy?" The earth pony replied, shedding some light on the situation for Rainbow Dash.
"For once, maybe you're right AJ... Wait a minute! You're just trying to make me quit so you can win! Not on my watch you don't! I'm going to win that trophy no matter what!"
Because AJ and RD were bickering, they didn't hear the countdown to the contest. Out of the blue, all they heard was "GO!" and they dove into their pies. As the pies were not pre-sliced, they had to dig out every bit of pie before they could move onto the next. However, for little Blue Feather, he couldn't finish his first pie and placed fourth.
Boulder, Applejack, and Rainbow were going strong, each one on their seventh pie now, and each one starting to get full. For Boulder, that was enough as he tapped out of the contest and placed third. With Rainbow and Applejack both neck and neck, their competitive spirits would drive them both to push forward.
Pie thirteen, and it was really starting to show now. Their physique had gotten much larger and their movements lethargic. They had grown a sizable belly each and had the start if several back rolls. Their plots had grown much larger, as the assistants had moved two chairs under each mare. The pair were both struggling, but pushed on.
Pie twenty-two. Both of them were getting close to the record of twenty-seven, which has been set for nearly twenty years by a pony named Hungry Growl, an earth pony whose special talent was eating food. However, that record could be beaten by two Elements of Harmony.
Their plots easily covering the two chairs, they provided extra cushioning for their tush when they sit. Their bellies have now fallen into their laps, and were starting to cover their newly endowed thighs. Both had a double chin but Applejack had the start of a third. The two were giving it all they had, and it was definitely showing on their waistlines.
Pie twenty-seven and the contest had come to a screeching halt. Rainbow Dash was barely eating anything while Applejack still looked determined to catch Rainbow while she was down. With newfound vigor, the orange pony took the twenty-seventh pie as a challenge, and finished it with gusto. Rainbow wanted to catch up, but it looked like the end for her. Until she gave it one last shot. There was no way she could win now, but she could try and tie it up. Reaching for the last bit of her pie, she grabbed it and stuffed it into her mouth, then fell backwards in her chair.
Technically, it was a tie because they both ate the same amount. That was only the case if they both stopped eating. Applejack grabbed her twenty-eighth pie and fought every instinct in her body. Already full to the brim with pie, she grabbed the whole pie and stuffed it down her throat all at one. She chewed for about a minute, then opened her mouth to say she swallowed.
The contest had attracted quite the crowd, as there was plenty of cheering for the new record holder. Not only had she won against Rainbow, but she had won against all the odds too. To beat a ponies record at their special talent requires skill, and Applejack definitely had that.
The MC had asked for AJ to go up to the mic and accept her award. So she leaned forward in her chair when *SNAP*! Both chairs fell victim to her new girth and collapsed underneath her huge plot. Fortunately, the extra padding made for a comfortable fall. She managed to get to her hooves, and waddle over to the mic, belly dragging along the way. "Let's hear it for our winner and record holder, Applejack!"
The crowd erupted into cheer as she received her trophy. "Thank y'all very much," Applejack started. "I wanted to make this short and sweet, so I'd like to thank my competitors and my good friend Rainbow Dash for puttin' up a good fight, but y'all fell just a bit short. Y'all can bet you will be seein' me here next year, and I hope to see y'all here too!" The crowd cheered as Applejack slowly made her way off stage.
"I guess it's time for me to go home..." Reasoned Applejack, quite full. Her whole body was jiggling with each move she made. It was rather difficult to maneuver now with her new weight. She started down the path to Sweet Apple Acres when she realized something...
"How in tarnation am I gonna buck apples tomorrow?"
