"Sargent Sprinkles, as much as it pains me to say this...you're fired." a tall, white pony-like figure, with tears on her face had just fired a long time friend and one of the best researchers she had. But this was not the time for tears. No, she had to keep calm and flutter on like a certain yellow filly once told her. She missed her dearly, but with the Elements of Harmony destroyed and Twilight and the others trying to survive in her once beautiful kingdom, there wasn't much time to reminisce about the good old days.
Gangs and some super-villians alike, lurked in the shadows, waiting for a chance to seize control and make this place worse than it already was. As much as it saddened the once great ruler of a once free nation, Celestia had a job to do: protect her little ponies. But with one of the best means of defense gone due to her sister, Nightmare Moon, she was slowly running out of options. Then, she got the idea to create a team of heroes to fight against this great evil that blanketed her country for awhile now.
Sargent Sprinkles, a very smart, a very small golden doodle pooch was the head of Celestia's research council and chief scientist. He was faithful, loyal and hard working, kinda like Rainbow. She missed that cryan pony's spirit of adventure and brashness. Her first thought was to in-list RD to one day lead this squad in the works, but she then thought how she and the rest of her friends were broken due to Discord's mind games. She was able to protect most of the ponies that lived in Ponyville and other area's with the help of her other sister, Cadance, through a very powerful anti-curse. This made these two powerful Alicorns revert to their unicorn forms. With terror ruling the streets and most of her powers gone due to the extreme conditions of the spell used, they still had done something right with what they were given. It was too bad that they weren't able to stop Discord from "changing" her most faithful and powerful guardians of her subjects' safety. But right now, Tia had to deal with the problem at hoof: Sargent Sprinkles.
"Wha-why your majesty? Do you not love me anymore?" those big, soulful puppy dog eyes she enjoyed so much, were now betraying her with the essence of mourning. Somewhat outplayed, the still rather regal unicorn crossed the lab and bent down to rub the head of a kind of parting gift from Applejack. Aj, honest with her dealings with everypony, now was a somewhat successful business pony. It made sense, because you kind of had to be a con-artist to deal with the types of ponies that came into town. With her kind heart, something Discord could not take away, she was able to use her gift/curse to help her family during some rough parts towards the end of the year.
"But, but...you're firing me. I was a bad dog, wasn't I?" his head was now on the ground, with those black, watery eyes gazing upon his master and best friend. Those eyes. His soft wining was what broke the ex-princess.
"Hey now, please don't cry young one. You're a good and faithful friend, something I haven't had in a long time." her cooing helped Sprinkles with the water works. With a teary look, he took a small breathe and then continued.
"But why Tia? Why are you cutting me off? Are you going to send me to the pound?" his eyes were on the verge of getting wet again.
"NO, NO, NO, mother of me, no! I couldn't do that to you, my son. It would break my heart to send you in harms way." she was now on the ground with the little fur ball, crying and cuddling with him at the same time. Sometimes it was good to cry, it somehow helped with how the world was becoming. She had been crying alot lately, something she rarely did while she had her wings. She so badly wanted to go to Twilight's and receive some comfort. It was a fools hope though.
Ever since the discorded wars and the time Twi forgot to send her letter on friendship and almost put the CMC in the hospital, her most faithful student/princess in training developed some...issues...issues that tissues just couldn't fix. She was doing well enough with the meds and therapy visits, but she pretty much barricaded herself in that library of hers. Her last letter she gave did feel the downgraded goddess hope. Hope that one day the gangs from Manehatten and crime lords from across the world would finally be cleansed with the burning flame of judgement day. What confused her though was the comment of reading "brony fanfiction". She knew that kind of stuff wasn't real, but she did decide to put a second lock on her computer back in the bedroom, just in case.
"Then why mommy, why you taking me off the study?" that word, mommy. Knowing that she was immortal, settling down with a stallion or mare, she really didn't care, was impossible. Watching love ones die was hard enough, being romantically involved with a pony and raising a family was even worse. But now that she was mortal once more, maybe she could finally find a special somepony. She had taken the little pup and raised him like one of her own. With time, he become rather intelligent, learning how to communicate and found a liking to the study of pony anatomy. Being still young did cause a few, problems though.
"My dear, dear Sparkle...uh, I mean Sprinkle, you do know what happened to my sister, yes?" the sad little puppy just sat there next to her, eyes down with a few droplets coming down.
"Please, please don't cry. I don't blame you for what happened, or any of the mane six for that matter. It's just, afterwards we haven't made much progress and our enemies are growing in size and strength. It's becoming more and more dangerous for you to work here. Those who want me dead might find out who you are and what we are doing. With that type of knowledge, there might be no hope in stopping the corrupt."
"I understand mother, it is hard to do good when so many ponies could get hurt." he looked up and saw a puffy eyed but proud mother. He made her happy, that is what counts. Still, he did want to show her his "final" project.
"Mommy, can I still show you what I made for you?" those eye's that were on her, could easily break a Fluttershy stare.
"Of course sugercube." filled with a new drive to make her mom even happier, the curly haired young-ling jumped out of Celestia's grasp and moved toward some machinery that was stationed near the back of the room. Feeling at bit of curiosity, the sun goddess followed her bouncing baby boy to whatever made him so thrilled in the first place. That was another thing that bothered her: her sun. She wasn't able to raise it anymore due to her grounding. Now it was in the hoofs of her sister. It was like she lost custody to her step child or something.
"Here it is, the dimensional displacement gizmo whatcha-ma-call-it." seeing where he was pointing with his tiny paw, Celestia couldn't help but giggle." ah, laughter. Another thing she seemed to lack. The one called Pinkie Pie knew how to make her smile. She came to enjoy being around that random pony more, sharing with her the love of sweets. Even the pink party pony couldn't escape fate. That cotton candy mare left Ponyville awhile ago, no pony has seen a hair of her since. Please be alright, my dear Pinkie Pie.
"That didn't sound very smart." seeing S.S. blush almost made her heart explode. Almost.
"Ya, I know, but wait until I turn it on!"
"What does it do exactly?"
"Well, after...uhm, you know what...I thought to myself: that was just a freak accident, stuff like granting ponies power didn't really ever happen. So, as I was reading some comics and watching t.v., I got the idea to enlist some help from "other places" that did.
"So, this contraption is suppose to "rip a hole in the very fabric of reality"? he blushed again.
"Well, kind of..." the look he gave was like saying: "please, PLEASE, don't leave me." He buried his face in his paws, fearing the worse. Instead of harsh words, the gentle nuzzle of her cheek brought his eye's towards the heavens. They were met with a soft face that had nobility of gods and the humility of lambs. They both knew risks were involved in even talking about this.
"Do it."
"Really mom?"
"Really, really." saluting with a flare of a pegisi warrior, Sprinkle flipped the switch and the big, honking thing roared into life.
"So, do you have a test subject in mind?" the hum of the machine was almost defining, but the conversation continued.
"Not really, no. But this device is suppose to hone in on a target and grant the deserving the abilities to concur their enemies."
"Hmm, seems legit. Alright, let's have faith this will work. I mean, what is the worst thing that could happen?" If only she knew.
Author's Note
alright, so I had to break this up into parts to fit it all in, like most origin stories. And this is a multi-universe crossover, so any hero or villain is free game. hope that this wasn't too cheesy but had to add that in for the more, mature stuff later. like a good pony always says: stay pony my friend.
