Prologue: Written by The Loveless
Fancy Pants pressed his hoof against the bulletin board, explaining how it would be better to get ahead of the game, and crush most of the competition. “You see.” He pointed to a graph with the companies name on a higher line than most. “Our company will do significantly better if we begin now and act early on.” Underneath his plain face, and serious words to his employers, he was hurt at heart. Knowing the one you love is alone someplace you aren’t isn’t the best way to live life.
“Well Mr. Pant’s, I believe you are right.” On the far side of the room the industries owner emerged with a kind grin and a very accurate assumption. “Altho you are correct, you’ve messed up.” Everyone was shocked, Fancy pants never messed up when it came to work. “If I could have a word with you outside.” As asked Fancy Pants left the chat up for everyone to view, and headed out to encounter his manager.
“Yes, Mr. Ignis?” Worried of what he had messed up on, and how he’d recover, and what would come of it.
“Do you know why I brought you out here?” A stern voice hammered away at the stallions nerves.
“No. May I ask why?”
“Yes. well, something isn’t right with you,” Fancy Pants took the words with gentle glances, “Might I ask what’s wrong?”
Once again Fancy Pants was calm, “Oh. Well as you know i’ve recently married, and my wife doesn't do much in her days.” He didn’t have to explain much of his lucky mare, he already knew. “And I can’t take her here, and she just waits for me to get home.”
“Ah, I see. You’re a bit down because of your wife.” He patted his past friend’s neck, “Well thats what you get for being such a good hearted stallion.” He chuckled, laughing at the words he had meant to encourage. “Listen, I want you to find a way she won't be lonely while you're here.”
Shocked at the request her tried to protest the claims without being disrespectful, “I’ve tried-.”
Ignis cut him off, “Well you better try harder. Your wife’s joy is on the line here.” He began to enter the meeting room once again, “I’ll finish up your presentation, you have the rest of the day off.” He chucked, enjoying his place as manager, “Make her happy or i’ll have to make you.” He wasn’t the one for threats, but he always had a way of getting his way, even if it didn’t matter to him.
“Good luck Mr. Ignis. And I shall try.” The door closed, and his search for his wife’s happiness began. any common mare or stallion would say it died with her marriage.
For some random reason he found himself at the local orphanage, not asking for permission to adopt first would be dangerous, but he didn’t care. The front desk was piled up in stacks of files, scattered everywhere. “Hi, i was looking to adopt.” The mare at the desk looked up, staring at him, then peering at the door to her left. The kids had heard.
“They will be out shortly. If you’ll please excuse me.” She left her desk in search of the special bell made for calling the kids out. Giving up the search, she found herself escorting the kids into the room one by one. Forming a line of 9 fillies and colts. “Okay kids, please introduce yourselves.”
First up was a young filly, no cutie mark like the rest of the group, “hi, i’m Red Rose. and i’m very friendly.”
Second, a colt, a little taller than Red Rose, “I’m Ice Fire. I sorta have two sides to me.”
Fifth was an adorable filly with a sock on one hoof and shoe on another. “I’m Cye. I’m a little shy.”
Fancy pants smiled at the cute filly, “Thats okay dearry.” The filly smiled, and they laughed before continueing the introductions.
The ninth and last of the kids went, “My name is Silver. I’m not really sure what to say.”
The desk attendant approached Fancy pants, “We had one more filly, but she’s never her on ti-.” From behind Fancy Pants, a orange pegasus entered on a scooter. Knocking him down. “I’m sorry about that Mr. Pants, but she is like that.” She glared at Scootaloo, angry with her display. “Scootaloo, please introduce yourself.”
Scootaloo threw down her helmet and headed to her bathing area. “Whats the point, no pony in thier right mind would adopt me. Let someone else get luck.” Through a small crack in the door, he witnessed Scootaloo throw the covers over herself, and slam a pillow over her face.
“Well, you’ve met all ten of them, nine if you don’t count the last one.” She staired in the direction of the bending center, “Would you like to adopt any of these young mares and stallions?”
Fancy Pants didn’t need any time to think it over, “Well there is one I’d like, but i’d like to speak with her in private. If I may.” As he finished what he had said, all the colts had left to their wing, and the girls waited eagerly for a chance to talk with the rich stallion.
“Who might you like to speak with?” She smiled at the thought of a child getting to live in a happy home.
“Well, the strange one who hit me. I think you called her Scootaloo.” The shock on the fillies faces was obvious. Scootaloo would never be adopted by some one like him. “May I talk to her?” A swift hoof gesture shooed away the fillies into a far off room, and Fancy Pants entered the girls room, shy and disturbed of its naming.
“I’m not going back out there! you can’t make me!” She wrapped a cover over her head, and dragged the pillow in with it.
Fancy Pants sat on the edge of the bed, “I wasn’t going to ask you to come outside.” Scootaloo peeked ahead from underneath, hiding her check and below. “I came in here because I wanted to adopt you.” He smiled widely at the shy looking face of Scootaloo. “Can I adopt the cutest filly i saw today?”
“Why are you asking me? That filly is not in here.” Scootaloo’s voice had a negative tone to it, but anypony could see why. She was an orphan for most her life.
“Okay. Can I adopt the funniest filly?”
“Not here either.”
“Can i adopt the most negative filly I’ve seen today?” He stared at Scootaloo, who once again hid her adorable face once more. “Is she here? Or is she in the other room?”
Out of excuses she had to give straight answers to escape her corner, “Why do you want me? I’m nothing special.”
Fancy pants had enough of her response, “Why? Because I wanted to get a cute fun loving filly to keep my wife happy while I’m gone.” Scootaloo pulled the covers down to her mouth. One inch below her cheeks. “You are the only one who didn’t care to lie their way through the whole interview just to get adopted.” He didn’t care to hid the truth any more, “And you know what? I gave you a choice to come with me willingly, when I could have just asked the mare out there to let me adopt you.”
Scootaloo pulled the covers off, and began packing up her 8 socks and her scooter. “Okay, lets get going.” Scootaloo grinned and blushed slightly. She had never been called cute before. No one was ever around to tell her that, “Please get me out of here.”
“Sure I will, only under one condition.”
“And what might that be?”
A grin of excitement emerged onto his face, “You’ll have to get in a box, and have bunny ears on when I bring you home. Just before I show you to my love.”
Scootaloo contemplated over the plan, imagining herself in a bunny suit. Only one word entered her mind. Cute. “Okay. Just please hurry up!”
