The prisoner sat facing the bars. From there, she could just about see the reflections in the pools of water near her cell, and as they were slowly pulsating because of the hoofsteps coming from the stairway which lead to the main part of Canterlot castle. The pool slowly began to vibrate harder as the steps came closer, and tall figure began to cast a shadow upon the walls of the dungeon. It slowly moved into the light, past the barred grate which shone light rays through from Canterlot's prismatic sky. The light reflected into the small pools of water, which in turn shone onto the figure who became visible as he moved ever closer. The rays caused the polished steel of his armor to almost golden as he patrolled the outer corridor of the lowest floor in the dungeon. It was certainly a rare occasion that a pony was kept in this part of the castle.
The figure could see a silhouette from the corridor, as it was slouched against the bars of the cell, slowly using it's hooves to scrape the rusted chain of the lock which kept the cell closed against the equally rusty bars. It slowly turned it's head as if to follow every move he made across the passageway.
"Stop", the Royal guard plainly stated in a virtually emotionless voice. He slowly made his way towards the cell which contained the silhouette, which, unseen to him was scowling in his general direction. The figure ignored him completely, and continued to move brush against the chain. "Stop touching the chain, pony" he stated again, this time with a slightly more aggressive tone. With this silhouette did as ordered and paced back towards the unplastered bare stone wall. "Further". After looking in his direction and scowling (although this was unseen by the guard due to the darkness) the creature did as told and backed up to the wall, slowly resting against the stone wall. The pony gave a small shudder as a chill was sent down it's spine by the cold touch of the wall. The guard didn't give the pony a second look, despite the fact the pony could now be seen for the first time while it stood directly beneath the only window in the cell. Rusted iron bars covered the window, which the incarcerated pony had already noted. She suspected they were enchanted in some way, and made to look weak so the guard could have some pre-warning to ponies who would attempt an escape given the opportunity. The guard checked the chains, noting that there was no visible damage to them, and then continued his patrol of the corridor.
"Guard" the imprisoned called out in his direction.
"Silence prisoner".
"And if I continue talking you will do what exactly?"
Glancing back at the cell, the guard realized he didn't actually have an answer for this. He was only a reserve after all. Choosing to avoid embarrassment in front of a prisoner, he decided to pretend nopony had said anything and walked further along the corridor. After a few seconds he reached the opposite stairway which again connected onto the main part of the castle.
"Guard, wait!" she called from the freezing cell. "What's your name? ...and what's going to happen to me? No pony is telling me anything..." she trailed off, causing the guard to clear his throat and turn as if he planned to say something.
"Look, I'm not here to converse with prisoners". Trying to remember what Shining had said, he stumbled out another, fairly clumsy sentence "If I... you're ever released from this cell... then come and talk to me, but for now you're a prisoner ok?". He continued his attempt to act formal, but even he knew he wasn't very convincing.
"Are you going to answer my question or just parrot out statements you heard from other guards?".
"I... that's none of your concern".
"What?"
*Shit, I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say... I knew I wasn't ready for this....*. Trying to regain composure the guard yet again turned, this time using his magic to swing the exit door open. The pony in the cell noted that the door was surprisingly majestic considering the rest of the dungeon, probably meaning that led directly into the castle.
"Haha, you're just gonna leave, guard? Who the heck trained you, they must have been drunk... or high or something".
"Shut up and respect the Prince, considering where you are now I'd highly recommend it" the guard proudly said, managing a small laugh as he realized he'd finally done something right.
Now laughing audibly right through the dusk filled corridor, the pony managed to speak in between snickers "you were taught to be a royal guard by Shining Armor himself and you're this bad? Oh, Chyr... Celestia you're such a terrible guard".
"You want to submit a review? Try it pony, one more comment from you and you're gonna regret, I'll be right back down there in half a second".
"Haha, threat of the century coming from you there, heh, I'd be surprised if you even know how to fight, from what I've seen so far you barely grasp the concept of speech".
"I've given you fair warning, I'm sorry. Turn around and face the wall" *why am I apologizing to a prisoner*.
"And if I don't?".
"You'll have a delightful date with Celestia my friend, or who knows, maybe a delightful trip to the gas chamber".
"WHAT!?! You don't have a gas chamber..." *ok maybe I've pushed this a little to far*.
"I know we don't have a gas chamber, but even so I'd recommend you shut up so I can continue patroling. What were you doing with the chains anyway".
"I wasn't doing anything with them, I hope you can appreciate just how tedious it is in here, guard". *Is he even a part of the guard? Perhaps he's here to break me out...*. The pony in the cell took a glance at the guard, but found no irregularities. She wasn't particually sure whether this was good or bad. *Only one way to find it*.
"Multi 3".
He looked up with a look of complete confusion. He still couldn't see the pony in the cell as he black coat blended perfectly in with the dry stone wall and darkness of the night. There was a short silence a gust blew through the grates on the side of dungeon, causing a bitter chill to briefly cause them to both forget what they were discussing.
"I have no idea what you mean by that, I take it that's a code?"
"Nevermind. So anyway, what's your name?"
"As I know this won't be incriminating in any way considering I'm new to this as you've probably gathered, I'll tell you. Crystal Lance, reserve guard of Solaris. And you?"
Hexie quietly made her way back to the thin mattress placed in the left corner of the cell. Avoid spring what a stupid guard <----WHERE I LEFT OFF
"So Hexie, I need to continue my patrol. Do not touch the chain again. We can always see you". The guard turned his back for the final time and made his way to the staircase. Slowly raising his faintly blue forleg, he pulled the door open and disappeared into the light".
"Hexie".
"Crystal Lance, reserve guard of Solaris. You're alright Hexie, although I not sure if I'd be saying this if I knew why you were separated down here". *Why am I talking to the prisoner, I'm so bad at this...*.
