Lost and Broken

"Spike, where's that book I asked you to pull on advanced unicorn magic?!" Twilight demanded.

She really wasn't in a great mood today. She was in a rush to find out all she could about weather spells. After Discord came in with cotton candy clouds and chocolate rain, she's been interested in how he had done it. Spike had insisted it was a power only Discord could use, but Twilight knew better than that. She knew it was impossible.

"Yeah, it's on the table, I even opened it to the chapter on weather spells!" Spike boasted, obviously impressed with himself.

Twilight trotted to the table and began to read extremely quickly, searching for anything to do with bizarre weather patterns.

*KNOCK KNOCK*

Twilight groaned. Somebody was at the door. She sighed and trotted over, her horn glowing as the door swung open.

"Twilight!" beamed the rainbow-maned pegasus hovering before her. "I'm gonna show everypony this amazing new trick I'm working on down at Galloping Gorge! You HAVE to see it, Twilight. You have to! It's gonna be so awesome!" she rambled.

Twilight glowered. "Rainbow Dash, I'm busy today. I have to study!" Twilight rolled her eyes as she spoke. Rainbow began to pout.

"C'mon Twilight, everypony's gonna be there, and you REALLY need to get out more, take a break, you can read any time, you can only see THIS amazing trick ONCE! ONE TIME, TWILIGHT!" Now Rainbow was the one glowering.

Twilight had fallen asleep late. She had woken up early. She was in a bad mood. And now she was at her wit's end.

"I don't care, Rainbow Dash! I want to study! I don't care about your pointless trick and immature antics! Go bother somepony else! Don't you have anything better to do than pester me?!" Twilight snapped.

Rainbow just hovered there speechless, eyes wide, blinking.

"Wow...um, okay then Twilight, I...I guess I can just...just go." And with that, she flew off.

Twilight sighed and closed the door, then immediately felt horrible about what she had done to Rainbow Dash. How could she be so rude? Rainbow was right. Twilight slid a bookmark into her page, then closed the book and slid it back onto the shelf.

"Spike, come on, we're going to Galloping Gorge to see Rainbow Dash's trick." Twilight smirk and rolled her eyes at her self for being so silly. Spike pattered in and hopped on Twilight's back, and off they went.

When Twilight finally arrived, there was their small group of friends cheering for Rainbow, who flipped, then began diving down, gaining speed, planning to pull up at the last second. This was an amazing trick. Applejack was wide eyed, watching closely. Rarity was beaming at the sight of her friend, obviously shocked by her ability. Pinkie Pie was too astounded to even cheer for her friend, and even Fluttershy was getting excited. But just a loop and a dive wouldn't do that. Twilight must have missed something good. Oh well, it was her own fault.

But either way, she had to apologize to Rainbow Dash. She was wrong. She needed to fix things. She ran to the edge of the gorge. She could see how much concentration Rainbow Dash was putting into this one trick, coming extremely close to the ground, preparing to shoot upwards.

"RAINBOW DASH! I'M SORRY FOR WHAT I SAID!" Twilight called as loudly as her little body would let her. But that few words was all it took. All it took to break Rainbow's concentration. All it took to make Rainbow forget how close the ground was. All it took to kill her.
