When I wake up, I take a few seconds to just lay there. Normally I just pretend to be asleep for a few minutes on the weekends like this.
Then I realize something. Today's the day I become a Trainer! I'd already sweated over the whole exam thing, (it was an elective this year in school), and today me and my 'friends' get to choose our starter! They didn't show us which one's we'd be getting for some reason but I have a vauge idea.
Then I realize something else. I had set an alarm, and it didn't go off! I have about two minutes to fully wake up, put my cape on, try to get my mane in some acceptable condition, brush my teeth, and be out the door. Shootshootshootshootshoot. I forget that I'm a unicorn and not a pegasus as I fly around the room, sososo glad I had forgotten to put the brush back the last time I used it in my room and quickly tie up the pink bolt of cloth I had purchased when we first moved to Alletun Town. It's when I smash into door to go grab a breakfast bar and a toothbrush when I feel the points press into the side of my face that I find the brush still affixed to my mane as firmly as a Shellder to Slowbro's tail. I waste way more time than I should have prying it off.
Quickly I run a toothbrush over my teeth, finally remembering the easier way to hold it, and race out the door, pausing only to yell, "MOM! I'M GONNA GO ON AN ADVENTURE! I WILL MAYBE SEE YOU LATER!" and hear her reminder not to trip.
Of course, my cape catches and I fall flat on the front porch. I say something you can't say on network television and, possibly in record time, open the door again and tie the cape back on. Good thing none of the neighbors are out, that there more or less aren't any neighbors, at least nearby, cuz then we'd have to move again, cuz I really don't like being shamed on for being way to old to...
Run, run, run. Across backyards, cutting in front of the rare pedestrian. Dodge trees, dodge that stroller, dodge the crazy Meowth lady taking all 52 or so of them for a walk.
Something catches my eye, blue against the pale green grass of the town... It's that old mare's Magikarp pond! Luckily I jump high enough to cross it, and I'm so surprised at having any luck at all that the usual returns and a big, glimmering yellow one flies out of the water and onto my face. Next thing I know it's bleeding on the ground and I'm sopping wet with fish eggs up my ears. The water in the pond has a giant red bloom in it coming off of the 'karp., and I start to panic. "UHH! Um.." Eventually I just end up putting the pond under a tarp. Then I'm off again, but slower now because my mane is all wet and it hasn't been cut like ever and it's seriously slowing me down.
I arrive at the lab very late, of course. Shivering from being blasted with wind, still dripping. I run to the back of the lab where my new rivals already have chosen, and they look annoyed. Of course they are. I narrowly avoid tripping on a random Flabébé that was derping around. Willow is standing in front of a table, no doubt with something cool on it. I avoid her fiery blue-eyed gaze. "Uh, sorry I'm late."
Willow gives me an annoyed look. "Well, I hope you like the one that's left over, because your friends have already chosen. It's called a Bulbasaur." She gestures to the lone ball on the table with her wing. I levitate it towards myself and open it. The little green dino-onion thingy appears on the ground and I instantly fall in love. "I think.. I think I probably would've chosen him anyway... thank you so much..."
Willow's annoyed look more or less evolved into Evil Eye. "Don't mention it," she practically growls.
"So! Here, take this, have fun." Willow shoves what I recognize from the class as a Pokédex and more or less shoves us out the door. I'd be pissed at me if I was late for one of the most important days in my life, too, so I don't complain. And It means I don't have to walk back, too.
Outside my rivals start battling immediately. I think they prearranged it or something, because they don't even say anything. I realize that we all match the color of our starter- the vermilion-eyed colt had what I believe is a Charmander, his cerulean-eyed rival a Squirtle. (I actually don't know either of them.) And of course, Bulbasaur is green (but not the same shade of green as my eyes.)
Well, then. I don't want to get into a battle or anything, at least not a trainer battle, so I kinda derped into the path leading to the only land route connected to Alletun Town. Suddenly and all that, my sort-of friend Citrus Tang flew in on a flash of bright neon orange. "Geez, your colors are like a bad OC."
"What?" Citrus looked confused, and I remembered that I was like the only pony in town who could think beyond the fourth wall.
"I mean, not everypony has a 100% neon color scheme." I faked shielding my eyes, even though my mane could probably do the job if Citrus was that neon.
"Plenty of ponies have a-OHMIGOSHWATISTHATITSSOKYOOOOOOOT!" Citrus had noticed Bulbasaur.
Deciding that doing so would elevate me to Uber Queen Awesome The 151st, I revealed my shiny new Pokédex whilst also using my sooper dee dooper kewl magicness to go to the only entry, Bulbasaur.
"I've never heard of that one before! Hey, maybe we can finally battle now!" Citrus had been a Trainer for a couple months and I was totally jelly about it, so of course I decided to show off my new Pokémon and his moves, too.
"Wait, have you had a battle before?" Citrus had finally found her Joltik, who tended to wander.
I bit my lip. "Uhh... Actually, no."
"Well, you do know how, right? You did get top grades in the class, they say."
That wasn't entirely true, but I did do okay. "Yep. Okay."
"Okay, then! Joltik, Leech Life!"
Taken by surprise, I thought quickly, back to the battle I had witnessed earlier. The Squirtle was tackling, the Charmander scratching... Bulbasaur didn't have very significant claws, so... "Bulbasaur, Tackle!"
And tiny Joltik was practically mowed over. Still conscious, however, he followed his Trainer's orders to do a "Thunder Wave!"
But Bulbasaur just sort of flashed yellow. No damage taken. "Tackle again!"
But he didn't move. "Come on! Tackllllllleee!" The word 'tackle' began to lose meaning when Joltik landed in another Leech Life. Fortunately, Bulbasaur came out of his paralysis temporarily and tackled Joltik into fainting.
I waited for Citrus to send out another Pokémon, when I remembered she didn't have another Pokémon. So... I won? I never win at anything, always picked last in school sports. Although that might be that everypony else is a pegasus.
"Wow. Well, then. Uhhh..." I began to derp away when Citrus offered a brohoof, and I accepted. "Good fight. I guess you'll be going up to the next town over to start your adventure?"
I thought about it. "Yes. Yes, I am."
You might be wondering some things about this story; where is Oishi? Where in comparison to Equestria? Why don't Pokémon exist in Equestria if they do exist in the pony universe?
They teach it in history class. Long ago, before the banishment of one of Equestria's many princesses, forgot which one but apparently a bunch of weird guys in your universe are obsessed with her, Pokémon were a thing in Equestria. Not major like they are here, just another thing, like apple farming and party planning. Treated just like normal animals mostly, trained by some, a couple specific laws because they're dangerous sometimes.
Then legendaries were discovered, and they were WAY dangerous, especially this bacon bird thing that kept killing random ponies. Instead of making more laws, the ruler Princess Trollestia or whatever just set up a campaign to capture and destroy every single Pokémon. This obviously bothered some ponies, who started a rebellion, led by a pegasus who was said to resemble the Reshiram she trained. Princess Celsius or something realized the power of the revolution was greater than hers, so she captured a Pokémon of her own, against its will. Arceus, the Alpha Pokémon. This scared the crap out of the revolution, and the Reshiram pegasus signed a truce for the revolution to become its own nation with Pokémon allowed in exchange for being forgotten forever, despite sharing borders with Equestria.
And so the Pokémon Nation was born. Split into various regions for various purposes, all Pokémon in Equestria were relocated to the Nation. Reshiram Trainer Pony put the capital here in Oishi, and was promptly elected Champion. It's said that she still has descendants today.
