Starlight is a pony who never really believed in herself; she tried to stay out of everyone else's way and be easily forgotten, not deeming herself worthy of attention. Even after Apus, a pony named after the birds of paradise who shows up to help those in need, convinces her to express herself, causing her to discover her talent for artistic expression and improve her own life, she thinks incredibly low of herself, steadfastly refusing to believe anyone is less important than she is.

Now, with her schooling finished and her first friend out somewhere in Equestria helping some other ponies, she decides to travel Equestria herself and find Apus. Along the way, she meets a multitude of faces whose hearts she touches and speaks to, causing them to question their lives, for better or worse. Unaware of her own affect on the world, she travels to find Apus, until a discovery makes her question herself; only, this time, good isn't much of an option.
