They had no clue what they were, all they knew was that they weren't friendly. These creatures had previously been merponies themselves, although they weren't acting normally. Their queen finally allowed her warriors to reveal their true identities and attack. The merpony leader sent more and more of his troops into battle, even though each continuingly failed to stop these creatures. Eventually, they all managed to get into the cities and kill off all of the merponies, until every single one was dead. This was the end of a kingdom that had survived for millions, if not billions, of years successfully
