"It is a beautiful night" I said thinking out loud in my normal, perky voice. Snow had been glistening across the sky, the wind had been howling, but I wasn't scared. I had always loved the snow, it was like falling silver. Mother and I were laying down with each other, all seemed wonderful, but nothing, would turn out even close to decent.
Two stallions had broken down the door that night, one dark red, the other fiery orange. They came charging through the house, the very light in the room seemed to dim down. They threw us into the corner and threatened us. Mother screamed for help but it came to late, infact, it never did come.
Father had yelped when the dark red one pinned him to the ground slicing his wings while the other rummaged through all of our belongings. The sides of my father were bleeding uncontrollably but that wasn't enough for the evil that had entered the house. Cries that had exited my father's mouth that night, have tortured me ever since.
Father glanced at me in such a hurt way like his very soul was dying. This heartless killer followed his gaze with a twisted expression, "I'm gonna kill you. Kill you slowly in front of your girl, Glow." My mother tightly put her front hooves over my eyes and used the leg part around my ears. There were muffled voices but one clearly shouted, "Dragon! Separate them!"
The orange one pulled my mother away from me, and with solemn eyes said, "Sorry" He spoke in a whisper just loud enough for me, and only me to hear.
"Watch kid, it'll be the last time you'll see your father in a long time." His eyes were full of glee when he turned to father just to say, "Or maybe, not so long."
"You leave my Flutter's alone!"
"Flutter is it?" he said turning back on me with a sneer on his face, as though expecting me to cower.
I stood up proudly and defensively "My name is Fluttercited!" (Fluttershy + excited) "I am not scared of you!"
He just looked at me and used one of his hooves to knock me over. "We'll see" Turning to my father who was still struggling to break free. He began to slowly slit my fathers cheeks upward with a carving knife from mother's pampered pony (Pampered Chef) knives. Bringing the knife up to his mane and cut the maroon locks of hair off. Right after finishing what he wanted to with father's mane, he began slashing my father's under stomach. It was only as deep as a paper cuts but still caused both blood and pain.
"Leave him alone!" I ran to charge but the orange one blocked my path with his front left leg. HE had looked at me when he did this but I didn't even bother to look. Father's blood was flowing towards my hooves, I still have traces of it in them. I looked at my mother, she, was preparing to charge. Mother had never looked so filled with hatred, my heart was filling with fear. I will not show it.
She charged, but it did no good. She had scared this pony that his own reflexes took over and killed my mother with one blow. "Aw..." I hoped that he would just leave due to the murder he just committed, boy was I wrong, "I wanted to play with her." he whined. My fear started building up but I did not show it, I was going to be a Storkbolt (see Lost (MLP))and Storkbolts don't get scared.
"Dad I want to leave!" Wait dad? Could it be that this orange stallion was here against his will?
"Not yet Dragon! We got two more." My father looked at mother's crippled and lifeless body that had been once filled with laughter and joy. He leaped up taking a stand against him. Father's eyes were filled with flames, he though, like mother, was killed due to the reflexes of this evil being. "Now on to you."
"Father, please no don't!" I looked up at the orange colt that was defending me, "She's just a filly!"
"Yes and fillies are snitches!" the murderer said in a calm voice "So if you don't wanna go to prison, be my guest."
He began to walk towards me, I hoped my fear wasn't showing. Dragon placed his body in between mine and his father's. "I won't stand for this any more! I'm tired of all of this I don't want to be apart of this anymore."
"Fine!" He just sneered at us, "You can die too."
"Just you try!"
"Okay," he shrugged, he leapt toward Dragon, his son! Father against son, my attention however was drawn to my parents.
One limp body over another, neither past awayed like they should've. "Monster," they both turned my way as I turned to them, "MONSTER!"
"Hush, young one," Dragon tried to calm me down but his father leaped towards him and knocked him down to the ground.
After throwing him into the corner, he turned to me. "Your turn," He never lost that sneer.
"Not a chance!" I said standing up. "I won't let you kill me." I came up with an intellegent smart mouth comment to say. "Pop quiz. What kind of pony tries to kill young fillies?"
"Why would that matter?"
"A coward, that's who." I stood up more confidently than ever. "A coward wouldn't be able to defeat anypony!"
"Then tell me Fluttercited," the twisted expression was on his face once again, "How was able to not only defeat," he chuckled with glee. "but KILL your parents?" Stupid comment Flutters I thought to myself. "They were the weak ones," he hit me with his hoof, as he spoke. "They would have never been able to accomplish anything." He kept on pushing me into a corner at every statement. "They would have failed." Again another hit. "They would have died as failures anyway," He looked at me his irises expanding. "What's the big deal?" he finished with a sneer.
"What's the big deal?" my own heart was being consumed by flames. "WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL!?" I said hitting him back "They were my parents! They were my family!" I kept on pushing him back as he did with me. "YOU are the failure if you don't see that," My heart kept on burning and it was turning into ash. "YOU ARE AN IDIOT IF THAT IS WHAT YOU THINK! FAMILY IS A GREAT ACOMPLICE MENT! YOU KNOW THE ONLY THING BETTER THAN FAMILY?!" he just shook his head but still smirked like he was enjoying this. "IT IS HAVING LOVE IN IT!" I motioned my hoof towards Dragon. "IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE YOU GOT ANY OF IT SO I THINK IT IS FAIR TO SAY YOU ARE MORE OF A FAILURE THAN ANY OTHER!"
Dragon groaned in pain, "Fluttercited, don't" he tried to get up but yelped in pain snapping me out of my death path, the one my mother and father were in as they were killed.
I rushed over to help but ended up getting pinned by his father. "Now looky here, you've got a soft spot," I looked at him questioningly to keep him talking, "You just seem like you had no weakness like the Storkbolts."
"Everypony has weakness," Now it was my turn to smirk "even you"
"I have none, so you can wipe that smirk off!"
"Oh, but, you do," My smirk just got bigger, "you got two and I know what they are,"
"Oh really?"
"Yeah" I said acting all cool about it.
"And what would they be?"
All I had to do was lift up my head and say, "Guess."
"Oh my Celestia" he said rolling his eyes. He dipped his head down, staring to whisper something into my ear, but, I hit him with my head. "Ow!" he said taking off one of his hooves off my front right leg. Seeing the opportunity I hit him once again with my free hoof hoping I was strong enough to get him off me. "Not quite there yet sweetie." he reached out to take the knife from where he apparently had dropped it when attacking Dragon. I reached out faster but my leg was too short. "As I said you aren't there yet sweetie." His eyes were glowing red. He traced where my wing met my back with the knife. "Ah yes."
I closed my eyes as I saw him lift the knife, but instead of cracking of bones I heard a thud and felt searing pain along the ends of both my primary feathers as well as the secondary on my left wing. I gave out a yelp and shot up, my eyes opening. "Flutters you okay?" When my eyes adjusted Dragon was the first one I saw with his father pinned. "Fly! Get help!"
I leaped up to take off but couldn't, "OW!" I felt a tear slipping down my cheek. I couldn't be strong, but oh I had tried so hard.
"Flutters! you okay?" He looked towards me and I looked towards him. Slowly turning my head, and looked at my wing that the pain had been coming from as opening it slowly. My own blood was dripping off of them. The bottom half of both primary and secondary feathers were cut off. My eyes began to flutter I put all of my effort in keeping them open "Sit down!" Dragon demanded. I did right away, but near the door. He had a choice, leave me with his father, or, kill him.
"I'm going!" He opened his mouth to protest but I turned around and left. The wind blowing hard, I didn't try to slam the door but the wind forced it. I ran, carefully, down the walkway of the house like it was a runway and jumped from one to another. This maybe the closest thing I will ever get to flying again. The thought struck me down harder than Dragon's father had. Tears streaming down.
I gave up the strength and let weakness crawl up my body. Dreams crushed, no family, what was the meaning of life? I looked over the edge, never had the height of Cloudsdale frightened me so much as it did right now. Dragon saved you, now save him. The thought scared me, it wasn't my voice that I was thinking in, but my it was my voice. It just sounded older than I really was.
"Fluttercited!" I turned to see who was calling me, it was Agile Scramble. "Fluttercited, come inside!" I didn't understand it, she had bullied in school since the beginning of school even though she was four grades above me. She always thought she was the fastest and the strongest and, of course wanted to be a Storkbolt as well.
"Can't" I said and jumped to the next walkway, "got" Jumped towards another one "to" I leaped to the next one, caught me breath, and ran. I leaped of to the farthest one and in mid air shouted, "Go!" I heard her voice faintly but, didn't slow down. I was afraid of both the height and of fate. The wind was blowing through my mane and, howling in my ears.
I finally made it to the police office, there was a stallion just closing. "Please, I need help."
"Scat kid, I got to get home!" He paused looking at me, "No pranks."
"Plea-!"
"No!"
"This isn't a prank!"
"Prove it!" I showed him the wing that had been cut. "Lay down!" He ordered.
"No not till you help Dragon!"
"Dragon?"
I rolled my eyes, "Just come will you!" I started down the walkway once again and leaped,
"Wait!" I ignored him, I would rather save Dragon than have him tend to my wounds. "You need help!" I shook my head as I took a leap. "Why?"
Only a three words were able to escape my lips, "Dragon saved me." From then on there wasn't any other urging from him.
As we passed Agile Scramble's home she shouted my name and leaped into the sky after me, but when she said my name it sounded like Fluttershy, "Get back inside young lady!" It was Agile's parents wanting her to come back inside.
"But mom!"
"No buts from you young lady now get inside!"
"Fluttercited is in trouble!"
I thought I heard her parents calling after her, but I wasn't sure. "Hey, What are you doing?" I asked her as she flew next to me, Well sort of.
"I was gonna ask you the same thing." she said in reply motioning to the officer.
"Here I'll show you," I stopped instead of sprinted when I landed on the next walkway. I looked around for the officer who had stopped at Agile's house that was now a block away, to ask her parents if they knew me. I began to open my wings fast so that the pain wouldn't last long. However when they sprang out I yelped in pain, retracting them unconsciously.
"Don't!" she said sharply, but softly. "I don't need to see." I then looked at the wing that had been cut. It was still oozing blood that stained my pale yellow coat. Agile had followed my gaze when I had looked up I saw her already grayish blue mane lose itself as her white coat turned colors to seem like a ghost. Her face showed only one emotion, she was mortified, her pupils grew wider than they ever should have, her . "What did you do!!!"
I was lucky that the officer began to fly towards us, "Not now," Agile gave me a quizzical look. "Got to go."
I began to run down the path, "Why?"
I only let one word emerge from my mouth, "Dragon"
"Please let's go to the hospital!" Agile screamed after me.
I shook my head sharply, and glared at her with the stare, "Why do you care?!"
I bit my lip as I said that, but there was not another argument till we reached the house. I turned to the officer, "this is it."
There were sounds of the fight coming from the closed door, I went to open it with Agile trailing behind me, but the officer stood in my way. "No."
"But..."
"No buts." He lifted his hoof to open the door.
"How?"
"How what?" He said bringing his hoof away from the door.
"How will you know?"
"Know what?"
"Who is Dragon."
"He'll look like you of course" I just shook my head in a slow and seriously. "Why?"
"Just trust me."
He shook his head in a disbelieving way, luckily, he complied but, not before he sighed, "Okay, fine!" Before he let me in he told Agile to stay. "If you want to leave just tell me." I nodded and opened the door.
I walked in, the very essence of the room practically made me faint. Wooden chairs were broken into smithereens, the coffee table was tipped sideways and the floors and walls had been stained, stained with splattered blood. My parents bodies were laying in the middle of the room left untouched. The two living bodies were thrown on one another tumbling across the room. I was frozen in fright. I tried, but I simply couldn't move out of the way when Dragon's father fell on me. "DRAGON!!" I yelled.
His father turned towards him but grabbed a shattered piece of my mom's favorite vase and held it to my face. I watched as the officer slipped by. "OUT!" he shouted directing his voice to Dragon, "Out or she dies." Soon the officer stood behind Dragons father and next to me.
His father though almost turned around and saw the officer, Think! Think! "So, you figured it out yet?" I asked my voice shaking.
"Figured out what?"
"What your weaknesses are?"
He once again rolled his eyes "What you think is a weakness, I know as a strength," he paused, rolling his eyes as he drew out a word. "love,"
I paused making a thoughtful expression appearing on my face. "Never mind you have three not two." I made a quick glance towards the officer, who was giving me a curious look. "One, lack love, yes that is one but not one people can penetrate easily."
"Huh?"
I ignored his remark and continued, "Second, you get mad easy,"
He sighed as if annoyed but agreeing, "So?"
"and lastly you just chit chat if somepony gets you talking." My voice was still shaking as I finished, but less as I gave a big smirk.
He threw the vase piece at Dragon's heart and hit me, pinning me to the ground. "If your so smart princess, then how come your gonna die?"
"I'm not"
"Oh really then who's gonna save you?"
"Fluttecited?" Agile entered the room and looked at me. Her grayish blue coat, became even paler. Her eyes that were the near the same color turned to stone, and Dragon's father looked at her.
"Her?"
The officer, seeing his opportunity pinned the murderer, "No, me." He then arrested him and called somepony. Agile came running over to me and, my eyelids finally shut closed, my legs gave out under me, the noises around me grew faint until my whole world turned black.
A hospital? Why? "Mother? Father?" The names rang in my ears, everything hit me, hit me hard. The pain first, the blood, the cries, the tears, the worry, the hate, the bravery, the betrayal, the weakness, the... the... the... d...the de... the de.. "DRAGON!!!"
I caught a image with the corner of my eye it had been a dream. It had a picture of my mother, a childish, kindhearted pony who always loved playing practical jokes. She's the captain of her own flying team, not a famous one, but a flying team. She had a lavender coat, a bright yellow mane, bright yellow eyes, and a muffin Cutie Mark. My father, a childish, kindhearted pony who didn't care for playing practical jokes and is the 'vice' captain of his own flying team. He had a bright yellow coat, bright blue eyes, and a half a muffin Cutie Mark. And I was in between them. In the background there was a picture of the stallions that were in my dream.
The details fit exactly, the blondish red hair with the tips dipped with black with metal braces holding his feathers in place. His eyes were deep amber, a dark red, and bore the cutie mark of the murderer in my dream. There was a orange one next to him he had dark red hooves and a dirty blonde mane with a tad lighter blonde highlights. He however had brown eyes, like 'Dragon' had.
My heart was filling with hope so I sat up ready to face life, with mother and father. It was just a dream! Yay!!!!! Eww.... I stunk. That was my first discovery, and I began to wonder how long I had been there. As I looked around it looked like a normal, hospital room, till I realized that there wasn't a divider, or anypony else here. "Hello?"
A nurse walked in, she had a white coat with a crimson red mane and a cutie mark of heart with wings. She looked at me in surprise, "Your up!" I got of the bed and started to take off. Then of course the nurse had to say. "Lay down!" but she commanded me, instead of asking me to gently. "My name is Strawberry Marine." she said trying to calm down and start over.
"What happened?"
"You don't remember?" She asked quizzically.
"Oh please tell me that I had was a dream." I said finally realizing it might not have been a dream. Boy am I stupid! She couldn't help, because the answer was no, and her face showed it. I fell down to the floor tears pouring out of my eyes, all the hope I had gained I had lost. I lost even more in confidence. "No, NO!!!!" I didn't care about hiding it, I was lost, I had no family, left. My stomache began to rumble and ache. For the first time I didn't care if I was hungry or filthy, I wanted to die.
"There's an orphanage ready to grant you a home," I knew she was trying to comfort me, but I cried harder. "You've been in a coma for the last two months."
I looked up, her face showed overwhelming kindness, one I had never seen. "A coma?" I had heard of one but never knew what it was.
"Yes, there used to be visitors, last month but started to die down this month." my heart didn't fill with hope again, only with disbelief "there was a young filly, Agile?" She looked back at me, her hoof on her face in a thinking position, "And a, Mr. Flame?" I gave her a puzzled look. "He came in a lot. I thought you might of known him. In fact he still comes three days, every week."
"What about Dragon?" I asked hoping he would've come.
"Dragon?" It was clear she didn't know him so I slumped down holding my head down.
The next day, I was woken up by Strawberry, "Hey, Fluttercited, the orphanage caretaker is here to pick you up."
I was scared, what if they didn't like me? I slumped away shyly as I was pushed through the doors of the hospital. A strong pony began to approach me. He had a pale orange coat, a dulled silver mane, pale orange eyes, and a coffee bean Cutie Mark. I felt intimidated even when he gave me a warm smile. "Fluttercited I suppose." I slumped and hid behind my hair which I had always kept out of my face. It had always been a pet peeve of mine but, I felt a strange sense of security as it now happened. "Heck, you're so shy, you could be called Fluttershy!" I smiled as he had made this comment. I guess he had noticed it, "Is that alright," he paused. "If I call you Fluttershy?" I nodded, "My name's Peanutbutter Beard"
I simply nodded, "You can call me Peanut." I once again nodded. "So.... you want to come?" I shrugged my shoulders. I attempted to take off, but my wing that had been cut two months ago, couldn't carry me. When Butter saw, he was kind enough to say, "Here get on." He leaned down in such a way that I could get on his back, the same way my father one had. I winced at the sight but, got on. As we headed to the main streets I began to panic. It was the heights again. "Don't worry, we'll be there soon."
"Are you sure?" I asked in more of a hushed voice. He however never heard me.
"So, are there any friends who might come over?"
I shrugged, then realized that he wouldn't he able to see it. Thinking back, I was a bit of showoff. Never, never again will I be anywhere close to mean.
"You should fit right in." he said as we approached a large mansion, made of the finest clouds I had ever seen. It had taken us almost all day to get there but I wasn't about to complain.
I studied the house, how in Equestia was he able afford all this? "I used to be a Storkbolt." he said noting my expression. If the past events hadn't occurred then I would've looked up at him in awe. Instead I just shrugged it off. "Oh.." his drew off as if he expected something. "That reminds me, there is school starting tomorrow and you have a choice of either starting tomorrow or next week." I paused thinking as we walked into the mansion. "It's okay, you can tell me at dinner."
The room was grand, you could put a race on in here if you wanted to. To my right there were stairs, to my left there was a hall. However straight ahead of me was a doorway with double doors that had been left opened. All I could see was a large table, set with crystal dishes and ready for a meal. EEEEEE!!! I jumped, at the sound of a kettle going off. Although it was a large room as I loved before, I hated it now. It didn't seem comfy only glamorous.
I straightened my self out and nodded, "Your room is upstairs, third to last on the left side, would you like me to show you?"
"Yes," I said in a hushed reply, but immediately added, "if that isn't any trouble of course."
"Why she speaks!" He chuckled and answered, "Of course not."
When we reached the top of the stairs, the first thing I noticed were that the walls were covered in pictures of young fillies. I took my time to look at each one, carefully and observantly. "They're all the orphans that have been here." I nodded understandingly. He was beginning to get impatient so I stopped looking at the pictures and followed him to the third to last door on the left as he had said. "Here we are."
It was small, simple and cozy, there was a bed, a dresser placed across from it, a night stand with a lamp, a clock and a journal, sat next to the bed. "Sorry, I know that it's small but we have a lot of orphans here."
"It's wonderful." He was turning to leave when I asked, "How many?" I asked out of curiosity, "If you don't mind, that is."
He gave out another chuckle and continued saying, "Oh Fluttershy, there is actually four hundred twenty-seven, counting you" WOW! Is what I felt like saying but just nodded. "You can stay in here if you want but you can explore too. Dinner is six thirty," my stomach began to rumble. "It seems as though you'll need it." I nodded, but I didn't want to eat anything. "Well, bye."
"Bye" I flopped down on the bed, I don't care if I've slept for the last two months, I was tired and fell into the darkness. I knew I was dreaming but it felt so real, I saw my parents death, over and over. Their own hearts turn to ash, right before they died. I saw dragon save me from my own heart turning as well.
I woke up with tears streaming down, my throat killing me, and three different faces looking over me. One was Peanut, the other pony around my age that had a light gray coat, a mint green mane, purplish-gray eyes, and an envelope for a cutie mark. This next pony seemed a bit older and had a crimson red coat, a lime green mane, and dark olive green eyes.
"She's up!" the voice came from the red one.
"Are you okay?" Peanut said. "Fluttershy, are okay!"
I nodded, "Why?" I whispered barely loud enough for them all to hear, Why didn't Dragon come? Didn't he care? When I was brought back to reality, I asked once again a tad louder, "Why?"
The red one's sweet voice was directed to me again "Sweetie, I'm sorry but don't you know?"
"Know what?" my voice practically squeaked.
Peanut got my attention, "Well Fluttershy, you were screaming and, crying out the sea in your sleep." He looked at me with a grin and tried making me smile. "Seems like I can't leave you for one second."
"Sorry"
"No, no. It's okay, I'm just teasing you," he paused again looking at the gray one that had wandered over to the dresser. "You're just as bad as Misty over here was."
"Hey!" Misty shouted his way.
"Sorry," Oops.
"Never mind" he said with a sigh. "Dinner?"
I shrugged but I didn't want to, but I didn't want to be mean either. Misty spoke up first, "Great, I'm starved!" and with that Misty and Peanut left the room.
The red one was kind enough to help me out of the bed which I thought I could do by myself but found that my legs were to weak for me to even stand. "My name's Majestic Alizarinia, some call me Majestic but I would prefer if you call me Zarinia."
"Okay," I paused and gave a small smile, "Zarinia."
"Well," she said in a huff, "Dinner?" I nodded. When we reached the Dinning Hall half a hour later, due to my weak legs. I was stunned by what I hadn't seen earlier. The extraordinary crystal cups and plates were rimmed with ordinary gold. The silverware was real silver which is common everywhere in Equestria, anypony could retrieve it. Everypony except for pegasi that is, other than that it was pretty plain which I believe to be beautiful. "Here you can sit next to me." Zarina said kindly.
"Thanks," I said with a small smile. I moved to sit up, and didn't lose the smile.
"I'm so sorry for what happened to you." Immediately it faded away, all the color of the room melted, leaving everything and everypony gray. The sunlight itself felt like it was dimming and the air turning to ice. My head fell over the crystal plate. "Oh I'm so sorry I had no idea." I looked towards her way but I couldn't bring my eyes to hers. "It's been two months since it happened so... Oh yeah you were in a coma so it feels like last night, I'm so... sorry."
Dragon, "It's okay." I said, but I couldn't stop thinking about Dragon. How come he never came to visit? Who? What, when? Where? Why? I caught Zarina's expression out of the corner of my eye, "I really am fine." I said putting all my strength to my neck trying to make eye contact.
"Okay.." she gave me a suspicious look, "You just looked like you were deep in thought, like a trance or something?"
"I..I....I..I was thinking about a question Peanut asked me.." I knew I was a bad liar but, I don't want anypony to know there's somepony I miss. They would probably hunt him down to come here and I don't want to waste his time. So I ignored the itching urge to tell the truth.
"Okay... You won't tell me I'll figure it out eventually." She gave me a playful smile that forced me to smile back. It soon faded, I stared down at my plate deep in thought Dragon, where are you?. "Please tell mmmmeeee." she squealed snapping me back to reality, only it wasn't, it was a nightmare. I was about to say something but it came out as a squeak. "Okay," Zarinia said.
On the table was a delicious looking casserole "May I ask what the casserole is?"
Misty who sat across from us chuckled before she answered, "It's tofu broccoli casserole" (Chicken broccoli casserole)
"Oh," I paused noticing that everypony already had some on their plate, including me. I took a bite, and I immediately wanted to spit it out, but didn't, I couldn't. It was just a tad sweet, when I tried to swallow it wouldn't go down. I pushed myself out and asked, "Where is the bathroom?"
"Through there and first on the left." Peanut answered from the left end of the table pointing to a door I hadn't seen before. When I reached it, it seemed more like a school bathroom, I didn't need to go I just needed to spit out the casserole. It was beginning to choke me. When I went back to the table and peanut had to ask, "So have you decided?"
"Uh?"
"When are you gonna start school?" From the nightmare I just had I would pick stay but if I couldn't eat anything I didn't want them to know it so I prepared for my answer.
"Oh. Umm... tomorrow?"
He, Misty and Zarinia looked at me shocked, "Are you sure?" I nodded solemnly, what did I just do? I thought to myself. "Sorry. It's just that, before dinner, and the, then the.."
I nodded understandingly, "May I please be excused then?" I paused praying that Peanut couldn't see my plate.
"Of course, see you tomorrow." I slowly scooted out and headed upstairs and headed to my room but not before I finished examining the photos on display. The frames were made of clouds like most items in the house but the pony that made each of them was a great artist and had plenty of time on his/her hooves because each had a different design on each. Hooves began to climb the stairs making me jump and dart to my room pounce on the bed and fall asleep. A dreamless sleep thankfully.
I woke up and had Zarinia enter my room. "Breakfast!" I brushed my hair into my face and went downstairs got a plate and smeared a little food on it to make it look like I ate. There was my favorite eggs and smoothies.
School was simple and easy considering nopony even noticed me since I sat in the back of the class. During lunch, I sat own by myself but Zarinia sat down beside me. Behind her, Misty and two others followed. They kept on chatting about some mare, Spit Tire I think but I drew away from the group to the very end of the bench and hid behind my mane and sat. Not eating, not sleeping, but listening. When I got back to the orphanage I admired the frames and went to bed.
The same routine continued for the week or so. I didn't eat, only slept. No sooner than later I was only skin and bones, my wing was weaker then ever and a constant migraine, but when ever I tried to eat, my throat wouldn't swallow. There was morning when I woke up a bit too early, 2 a.m early. I walked downstairs and went through the hall that I had seen on my first day.
The whole wall was covered head to hoof in trophies. I knew there had to be something else through here and sure enough there was. Two rooms, one across from the other, I opened the left one and Peanut was lying down in his bed having his own nightmare, I caught a glimpse of one tear and ran out scared that he'll wake up. I ran straight into the door on the right and instantly filled with regret.
A picture of a small hardy, sarcastic filly with a dark gray coat, a raspberry red mane, purplish-gray eyes, and a crossed feathers Cutie Mark. It hung in a golden frame carved with hearts and detailed swirls. On the bottom of the frame was inscripted a statement, 'May Strawberry Smasher be with us always'. The whole room seemed gray, there was no life in the room. Only the shrine to Strawberry Smasher. I only wish that she or anypony were up now to comfort me.
On a wax covered table, there were some typical toys for a pegasus, a little trophy and a family picture. In the family picture there was strong stallion looking at Strawberry with kind eyes. He seemed to be weak and loving unlike now. He was still kind but not near as much as he was then, his mane that now appeared dull looked a sharp shiny silver, like it was in fact made of silver. He looked as caring towards her as a mother bear towards her cubs. Oh Peanut.
I decided to go back to the shrine and light a candle in remembrance of her life. I didn't want any thing to stop me. When I entered the room however I saw Peanut lying on the floor, crying. After around twenty minutes I gathered barely enough half courage I asked, "Peanut?" My voice seemed to be echoed in the room.
"Fluttershy?" he looked up wiping his tears away. "How long have you been in here?" he asked but, I couldn't decipher his emotions. There were to many; hate, kindness, misery, comfort, cruelty, compassion, tough, weak, uncaring, tender, treachery and affection. "Did you hear me?"
"Oh," I said but in barely a squeak, "near twenty minutes." I said just loud enough for him to hear. "I'm sorry I knew I shouldn't have come, I'll be going now."
As I turned to leave he spoke softly to me, "It's fine, I guess somepony else should know about it."
"Know about what?" I said turning back.
"About my younger sister." I was shocked at him "I know you wouldn't think that I could have a sister like, her." His voice waivered
"No, well I'm sorry but I can't" I placed the lit candle I was holding with a wing and placed it amongst the things that were placed on it. I noted that there was a candle already lit in the middle of it. I had planned to place it in the middle as well so I strategically placed it so it would light up the picture. When I did, it seemed to light up her eyes. I turned back to Peanut, "I should get going, I'm sorry."
There pause but he eventually nodded. I twirled around and left. The following day passed by I strolled away in the halls and hid from Peanut but I had to go back to see Strawberry's shrine. I slipped through the hall and into the one door that I had imprinted in my mind. I slowly opened the door and winced at the quiet creak it made.
"Hello Fluttershy" it was Peanut, I darted out of the hall and into the main room but as I headed upstairs my legs gave out from under me in weakness, I dragged myself under the dinning table. "Please I'm not mad."
Peanut's voice came out smooth and soft, assuring me of kindness I tried but I couldn't drag my body out from under the table. "Peanut," I gave away in a small hushed voice, "help."
"Fluttershy!" he shouted, but then once again everything went dark, sleep, concussion or seizure, I wasn't sure.
That was until I woke up in the hospital. There were five figures above me, one was blurred light gray mixed with blurry limeish green, another was practically the same except it was grayish blue and white. The only other one that looked like them was white and red blobs. The others in contrast were red and lime while the other was both orange and gray. Wait, not gray but silver, I could have recognized that color combination anywhere. "Peanut?" I asked shooting up, but not wanting to jump to conclusions.
A sweet voice called back, it was Zarinia's "Fluttershy are you okay?"
"Yes" I groaned. My eyes however were drawn to an orange pony with a blonde mane across the room. "DRAGON!!!" I shot out of the bed and ran towards him the very second I had seen him. "Where were you!?" I asked embracing him. "How come you never came to see me?" My eyes were overflowing in tears of both overwhelming joy and sadness.
"What in Equestria do you mean?" He paused, I've been coming in more periodically than anypony. I was going to try and adopt you but you were taken away and they weren't telling me to what orphanage." I looked at him. His voice was crying, his expression matching, but his tears held back.
I turned and looked to Strawberry Aqua about it, she told me that he hadn't come to see me. "That's Dragon?" She asked, but then continued, "I was told to call him Mr. Flame."
Dragon looked down on me as I turned to embrace him again, "Would you like that Fluttercited?"
"Yes, but I prefer Fluttershy now." I said in reply.
"Good, 'cause I already filled the paperwork out." I turned to say good-bye to my friends when Dragon cut me off. "Don't worry you'll see them time to time, and when I say that, I mean tomorrow." I gave him a small smile and left later the in the day with Dragon to start a new life.
When we got there he made a comment that I was super skinny compared to the last time we had seen each other, I nodded in agreement and shook it off.
The following day we left to gather some of my things from the orphanage, when we arrived Peanut, Misty and Zarinia were there waiting there for us. "Hi Fluttershy!" Misty said but I saw the tears forming in her eyes. I hugged her tightly, she and I had a silent friendship, no words were needed. "Thank you."
"For what?" I asked "For paying attention to my works and me when none else could see me." She was going on about something I didn't even know about. "I've seen you staring at the frames, my art, thank you."
"Oh, your welcome" I said hiding behind my mane again.
Zarina called out to me when I was about to leave, "Fluttershy, you're a great friend, don't be shy."
Peanut added on to it though, but running up before doing so. "Fluttershy, remind me to tell about my sister when you come back. You saved me."
I opened my mouth to say something to him but Dragon called out to me saying, "Flutters it's time to go." I nodded his way before smiling to Peanut.
As I was on the edge I turned around, whispered good-bye to the one place I half fit in, my half home, my kind friends, my large, extremely large family, and headed back, back to the dangerous reality ahead.
