DERPY'S FULL POTENTAIL

It was a typical day in Ponyville and every pony had things to do. The Cakes were busy baking, Rarity was busy in her Carousel Boutique, Twilight and Dash were in the library reading. Dash had finished the second book in the Daring-Doo series and was on book 3. Every pony was busy including Derpy Hooves she had spent her morning taking Dinky to school. Then she was off to the Sugar Cube Corner where Pinkie Pie was already waiting for her with a hot fresh out the oven muffin. After all Derpy loved her muffins she was actually able to tell subtle differences in the way they were made each day.
“Good morning Derpy got any letters for me?” asked Pinkie, “not today sorry Pinkie maybe tomorrow thanks for the muffin it hit the spot”. As her day went on Derpy did what she always did everyday delivered mail. She had her special route she always took avoiding some ponies who really didn’t like her very much. Which to her was ok to her every pony was different if they didn’t like her that was fine and dandy she wouldn’t let it get to her. However today was different her usual way was blocked by construction ponies doing a bit of work on the ally she had always taken. She could have just flown around this but she had a special package for Rarity and promised her no flying due to her being cross-eyed and it often times affecting her flight. As it did the day she had tried to help Dash get town hall ready for Applejack's rodeo send off. She just didn’t know what had gone wrong that day but she was still happy to help any pony out even if it did cost a lot of money.
“Nope” she heard a construction pony say, “sorry miss you can’t go this way today”. She turned around and started for the main road in Ponyville. It wasn’t far to Rarity’s boutique anyway so she trotted along when out of nowhere she heard a voice say,” hey cross eyes can you see where you’re going?” She knew who the voices were, they were the very same 3 colts who continually gave Rainbow Dash a hard time and called her rainbow crash, even though Dash hadn’t actually crashed in quite some time since having to go to the Ponyville Hospital where she picked up her new found love for reading. This kept her grounded a lot lately and she was fine with it. It gave Dash and Derpy some time to be able to hang out every now and then. Dash would tell her how to deal with those ponies who mocked her and made fun of her and Derpy would take it all in. Well today was the day all of that would be put into practice. She simply said to them “I have a busy day ahead of me and have no time for you.”
They blocked her way and continued to mock her until seemingly out of nowhere Rainbow Dash landed at her side telling them to just leave Derpy alone. She told them several times before she had to in typical Dash fashion, show them up by flying circles around them and making them dizzy. In the process they fell on the ground and dash got one in on them. "So boys how’s it feel to crash like that?" with that they were gone pride hurt but nothing else.
Since Dash had nothing to do the rest of the day she decided to hang with Derpy to see if she was ok. Derpy always said yes and had a lot of courage but dash knew better and she just left it at that. They laughed and joked all the way to Rarity’s boutique. When they got there Rarity informed Dash that she had a very special client coming into town who just so happened to be a Pegasus. Dash knowing where this was going reluctantly agreed to help her friend. Under her breath saying darn you Element of Loyalty.
Derpy delivered the package to Rarity and was once again on her way to continue to deliver mail the ponies who had made fun of her earlier nowhere to be seen. It was about lunchtime when Derpy made it back into town. As usual she stopped by the Sugar Cube Corner to have you guessed it a muffin. It wasn’t like Derpy only ate muffins it was well just that she loved them she would eat other things here and there but muffins were a constant.
“Hey I’ve got 4 minutes left right now I will be right back” Derpy said, “I’ve got to quickly get to the post office.” She crammed the muffin in her mouth with her hoof then was off like a flash, this was a common thing for her to do take so long chatting with Pinkie due to her willingness to talk just about any pony’s ear off but she was Pinkie and every pony knew that including Derpy. Derpy just made it back in time to clock back in to work when the post stallion general of the Ponyville post office called her into his office. “You,, you called for me sir?” “Ahh Derpy my girl how are you today? Don’t answer that” he said really quickly. He wasn’t very long on conversations unless he had to be. He simply handed her a note and said to take the rest of the day off. She looked at the note and was going to say something when the stallion said to her “DONT OPEN THAT HERE!”, in a gruff voice. He told her she would still get paid for the rest of the day and with that promptly ended the meeting. Confused Derpy opened the letter it simply said this (why don’t you take some time to figure some things out for yourself. Wait for me in the middle of the big field outside of Ponyville your pal Rainbow Dash.). Slightly taken aback by this Derpy was both happy for the rest of the day off but also confused at the note. Oh well if Dash wants me there I will be there she said to herself trotting along.
Derpy had left Ponyville on an almost daily basis due to being a mail mare it came with the job. She had been to several other places in her life as well. Manehattan, Fillydelphia, Appleloosa, along with Canterlot to name a few so she was used to leavening town but the note was bothering her. Take some time to figure some things out for myself. She thought to herself as she sat in the middle of the field for what seemed like hours until she started to cry. She often cried though not in public in fear of being looked at for it. Heck not even Rainbow Dash cries well not that she will admit to anyways Derpy said to herself. She sat there for what seemed like a few hours. Who knows it may have only been a few minutes but when Derpy was alone time just seemed to drag on, and on. She was about to just give up and go home when a familiar voice rang out of nowhere. “HEY DERPY!!” it was Dash flying at just about 6 feet off the ground. Derpy turned to look at the one who had in her mind lied to her and had made her sit all alone out here for what seemed like ever. She was going to say something when out of the corner of her eye she saw almost all of Ponyville coming down the road.

As in any case where the town was fully involved Pinkie Pie led the way. Derpy who was in total shock at this sudden crowding of almost every pony in town tried to squeak some words together but couldn’t. It was Dash who finally told her what was happening. “I saw how you felt after the bullies picked on you Derpy, and I know you put on a brave face but I know how you feel on the inside, and how it often makes you cry.” Derpy looked at dash in shock and asked her if she really did. Dash looked at her friend “yup believe it or not I sometimes cry as does every pony.” Derpy simply replied “but I thought you were too brave to cry.” Dash started to say something when Twilight stepped in “every pony cries Derpy it’s not a sign of weakness it’s an emotion we all feel sometimes” Derpy wiped a tear with her hoof she was about to say something when interrupted by Dash.
“HEY DERPY!” Dash yelled quite a bit and Derpy was used to it she simply looked at Dash. “Yes dash?”, the blue Pegasus then spread her wings and prompted Derpy to do the same. “I thought you ponies didn’t want me to fly due to my being cross eyed” This time Rarity piped in saying “darling we just don’t want you to fly around Ponyville due to the fact that well,, you are a bit”,,,,, before she could finish Fluttershy chimed in. “It’s not that we don’t like you flying it’s just that you kind of make messes. It’s not a big deal and we aren’t mad at you please don’t think were mad at you.” With that Fluttershy said no more.
“WELL ARE WE GOING TO FLY OR NO!?” Dash asked. Derpy gathered whatever strength she had and spread her wings. The 2 Pegasus ponies took off into the sky; Dash in typical Dash fashion was already showing off doing barrel rolls, and flips. Derpy on the other hand was a bit nervous Dash saw this and encouraged her friend to do some tricks. In no time they had a captivated audience looping spinning, barrel rolling, they both put on quite a show. Little did Derpy realize that her eyes had started to straighten out and were slowly uncrossing she was way too busy to notice this.
Dash told her that they were going to give the ponies the greatest ending to any show they had ever seen and encouraged Derpy to follow her climbing straight up into the sky. When they both reached a certain altitude both started a free dive for the ground below. By the time she had reached maximum velocity Dash was already in the first stages of a Sonic Rain Boom. Derpy having never done this felt odd but safe with Dash in the air with her so she too just dove.
At terminal velocity Dash’s Sonic Rain Boom was an easy thing for her to do now so in show form she told Derpy to hit her terminal velocity. When the grey Pegasus hit terminal velocity something amazing happened. There was a sonic boom followed by millions of bubbles suddenly floating across the sky. Derpy still in free-fall along with Dash wasn’t able to see this until they both slowed enough to actually be able to maneuver their bodies to a good position for Dash to admire her Sonic Rain Boom. When the blue Pegasus turned around to see her Sonic Rain Boom her mouth dropped in shock and disbelief. Not only was there an endless rainbow stretching across the sky but bubbles. Millions upon millions of bubbles they floated lazily through the air mixing with the Sonic Rain Boom and catching light that filtered through them creating one of the most amazing sights any pony to that date, young or old had ever seen. Every pony stood in complete awe and wonder at the sight Derpy looked at Dash “di,,,, did I just do that?” Fluttershy was ecstatic actually screaming at the top of her lungs. “A BUBBLE BLAST,,, A BUBBLE BLAST!!”, Derpy just looked as shocked as any pony else.
Twilight broke the silence, “never in my life,,, I mean ever did I think I’d ever see one of those. Of course I did say the same about a Sonic Rain Boom, having friends, and believing in Pinkie’s twitchy tail, but wow Derpy” With that every pony came over to admire the grey Pegasus pony’s work in the sky even Rainbow was at a loss for words.
Seeing that something had just massively happened in Ponyville the Wonder Bolts who were in Canterlot for a show immediately flew to the town through an endless canopy of bubbles. Knowing what had just happened and who it was that had done it Spitfire had 2 outfits in her hooves. The Wonder Bolts landed in the field where the celebrating had already begun thanks to Pinkie and her party cannon which she had quickly run to get amongst all the confusion and had shot off upon getting back to the field to the surprise of many.
The Wonder Bolts sauntered over to where the 2 Pegasus ponies were finally getting over the shock of what had just happened when a strange thing occurred. Derpy in all the excitement of flying with Dash hadn’t realized her eyes were going uncrossed. It wasn’t until they landed and caught their breath that Derpy noticed this. “I,,,,, I can see,,, I CAN SEE!!”, She said with great delight. At that every pony came over to look at her, and sure enough her eyes were uncrossed.
It was Spitfire who suddenly broke all the confusion “hey Derpy that was obviously quite a show huh?” Derpy feeling a bit shy said to the yellow Pegasus “uuuhhmm yeh I guess you could say that”, she said blushing a bit finally able to grasp what all had just happened. It was Soarin who spoke up next of course not to Dash, Derpy, or any other pony.
He sauntered up to Applejack and asked “hey uhhm AJ you got any apple pie?” What could he say since he had her pie at the gala he would always stop by when in Canterlot or around Ponyville to buy one. Applejack just told him “now you just hold on a minuet there Soarin, yeh I got some pie but aint you going to say anything about what just happened here?” Soarin looked up into the sky and his jaw just dropped. They had flown through what looked like a canopy of rainbow with sunlight shining through millions of bubbles creating the effect that the very sky and ground were one gigantic rainbow. Soarin looked at Dash who in her typical way was bragging but not about her Sonic Rain Boom this time but the Bubble Blast. She was busy telling every pony that she had been the one to coax Derpy into flying and putting on a show for them. Derpy was going to say something but thought to herself eh its typical Dash.
After sitting in utter shock and staring into the sky for what seemed like forever Soarin trotted over to Dash and Derpy along with Spitfire and the rest of the bolts. In her hooves Spitfire held out 2 Wonder Bolt outfits, one for Dash the other for Derpy. In the heat of the moment Derpy and Dash both grabbed them and started talking incoherently amongst each other until in a brief bout of consciousness Derpy spoke up. She gave the uniform back to Spitfire who had a confused look on her face when Derpy spoke. “I don’t know what to say to all of you thank you doesn’t seem near enough but I must decline your invitation to join you guys. As all of Ponyville knows I have a daughter.” Dinky along with all the other school foals by then had already been in the field since Dash had been planning this for about a week so every pony knew about this all happening.
Dinky ran over to her mom and gave her a big hug and said “mom it’s the Wonder Bolts,, the Wonder Bolts mom!.” Derpy looked down at Dinky and kissed her “I know who they are silly filly but if I go off and join them then who would take care of you?” Pinkie chimed in “IL DO IT!” Every pony looked at her and chuckled. Mrs. Cake simply said to her “you’re a great babysitter Pinkie but Dinky is a school filly and yes even though the Cake twins are a hoof full I think you would have your hooves full with both of them plus having to make sure Dinky got to anywhere she needed to go and take care of your responsibilities at the bakery.” With that Pinkie simply said “oh yehh I forgot about the whole responsibility thing and the time I babysat the first time thinking it was all going to be fun and games.” She said no more but went and started talking to other ponies.
Derpy hadn’t gotten to say anything before being interrupted by Pinkie and was finally able to say “besides whom around here knows all the shortcuts around Ponyville to get to places fast when delivering mail?” Every pony muttered to themselves “oh,,oh yeh your right we never thought about that”, and other mutterings. The post stallion general spoke up and said “besides I enjoy the muffins you bring into work” he said eating one. Spitfire looked around at every pony then back to Derpy and handed her the uniform. “You’ll always be a Wonder Bolt to us I mean heck you made a Bubble Blast no pony in Equestria can do that just like the Sonic Rain Boom it’s a special gift and we would be honored to have you as an honorary Wonder Bolt.” Derpy took the outfit and quickly put it on to the cheers of every pony.

Rainbow being the typical fan mare she was of the bolts was already in dream mode thinking about all the adventures they would have touring all over Equestria and wasn’t able to notice spitfire coming up to her holding another outfit in her hooves. In fact it was Applejack who had to snap her out or it. “I,, er,, uhmm, thanks AJ” Dash said still trying to hold on to the daydream she had just had. “Y,,,, YOU,, YOU WANT ME TO BE A WONDERBOLT!!?” She asked in a rather loud tone. She didn’t mean to but in her excitement it just kind of happened. Spitfire simply said to her “uhhhmm yeh silly filly” Dash looked confused at this, “Why do you look so dumbfounded Dash” Asked spitfire. Dash was going to say something when Spitfire got to it first “well of course we want you as a Wonder Bolt I mean you did save our lives remember” Dash thought back to that day. The day that Rarity had flown too close to the sun with the wings she had gotten from a spell of Twilights, and how even though in practice everything had gone correctly for her. During the show she literally was a rainbow crash proving it time and time again throughout the day. Until realizing that her friend was in trouble and was falling. She climbed high into the air and dove straight down creating not only the second Sonic Rain Boom in history but saving Rarity and the bolts. “Oh yeh that” Dash said.
Soarin chimed in too “uhm uh don’t forget you saved my pie at the gala” he chuckled and went back to ask Applejack for a pie. Spitfire then proceeded to tell dash the whole thing that had gone on between the bolts and how when the time was right they would surprise her with her very own Wonder Bolts outfit and a spot in the group. Telling her that they kept waiting for the right time but it never presented itself and how they had all but given up hope on her after the whole hero thing went to her head.
Spitfire said “but despite all that, and being high strung, and full of yourself at times. Today is the right day. You proved just why you represent the element of loyalty. Not only did you show loyalty to a friend but you got the entire town of Ponyville to show it as well that was truly loyal” “So you put this whole thing together in the span of a week Dash” Spitfire asked. “Maybe a bit longer than that” Dash said, “but I know Derpy and I often see her come out here and just sit and think.
She cries a lot and it makes me upset that though always willing to help any pony out despite her limitations she is always there for every pony, so I thought I would do something nice for her. It was originally supposed to be a small get together but I opened my mouth to Pinkie and well, you know Pinkie she’s not satisfied unless every pony is happy. So I just let her work her Pinkie magic. The air show was an improvisation as well I thought it would be a great opportunity for Derpy to be able to feel free and let her mane down a bit. When I looked over and saw how much fun she was having I whispered in her ear how about we give these friends of ours a show? To which she replied why not? I’m having a blast let’s do it. The Sonic Rain Boom and Bubble Blast, especially the Bubble Blast were the icing on the cake” Needless to say at the word cake Pinkie was right there with Dash, Derpy, and the bolts, with a huge frown on her face. “I thought you said cake” said Pinkie looking all over the place for the said cake. “I did Dash said, but not that kind of cake” Pinkie laughed and looked for the table set up by the cakes. With that Pinkie was gone leaving the bolts, Dash, and Derpy to finally talk.
Dash thought long and hard about the choice she was about to make. Holding Derpys hoof Rainbow Dash did the hardest thing she would ever have to do in her life and handed Spitfire the outfit back. “I,,, I can’t” she turned to walk away but Derpy still had her hoof. “It is what I have always wanted and dreamed of all my life but I can’t desert my friends I just can’t” Spitfire who was tearing up at this handed Dash back the outfit. Spitfire looked at the blue Pegasus and said, “Look Dash I know you often are high strung, competitive natured, and sometimes so full of yourself that you just can’t see what’s going on around you, but you know what? We all are at times even me when I get done with an amazing show or do something new for all to see I am sometimes just like you. It’s not a bad thing to be competitive, high strung, and full of yourself, its pony nature but it’s how we deal with those times that makes us who we really are”
Dash looked at Spitfire tears welling up in her eyes then to Derpy who was already bawling her eyes out hugging Dinky and just lost it. It was an amazing moment for every pony to see, the Wonder Bolts, Rainbow Dash, Derpy and Dinky all hugging and crying together. So much so that Pinkie started to cry too “ITS BEAUTIFUL!!” She said sobbing.
After what seemed like an eternity the embrace came to an abrupt and sudden end with the wiping of moist eyes and a huge smile on all the Pegasus ponies faces “LETS DO IT!” Every pony was surprised by this, “do what” They all asked inquisitively. Spitfire then called the Mayor over to the group and whispered something in her ear. The Mayor took off in a flash and was back with a microphone. “FILLIES, AND GENTLECOLTS, THE WONDERBOLTS HAVE AN ANOUNCEMENT!!!” With that the bolts took center field.
Spitfire's announcement sent a huge roar of applause from the gathered ponies. “TODAY WE TAKE IN 2 NEW MEMBERS OF THE WONDERBOLTS, RAINBOWDASH, AND DERPY HOOVES, AFTER TALKING TO THEM THEY HAVE AGREED WE ARE GOING TO GIVE YOU ALL A FREE SHOW RIGHT NOW” With that all the Pegasi lifted into the air and put on one of the greatest shows any pony old or young had ever seen, with the end of the show featuring Derpy doing the Bubble Blast.

the lesson in friendship, and the 2 princesses
After the show Princesses Luna, and Celestia who already knew all about this and were watching from a ways away both gave their applause and took off for Canterlot Castle.
Luna looked at her sister with tears in her eyes ''sister'' “Yes Luna” Celestia asked. “I am sad at what just happened is this a good thing” Celestia looked at her sister with tears in her eyes as well, and they had to land in order to embrace each other. “Yes Luna it is normal we have witnessed the true meaning of friendship and loyalty today dear sister. Now we have to get back to the castle we both should be expecting some mail” Luna looked at her sister inquisitively and asked “what do you mean we” “That’s right Luna part of my deal with Dash with me not showing up or making an appearance was that the pony folk would send both of us letters explaining what they had learned. I figured it would be a good idea for you to start having a bit more of a role in the castle and not just have you locked in your room all the time. I know you’re not used to things right now what with having been on the moon for 1,000 years and I want to start making up for that” Luna simply hugged her sister and said “thank you sister” With that they both took off headed for Canterlot and the expected mail.
Later that night as the ponies in Ponyville were all getting ready for bed 7 ponies were busy writing letters to Princesses Celestia, and Luna.
THE LESSON IN FRIENDSHIP, TWILIGHT'S LETTER
Dear Princess Celestia today I learned a valuable lesson in friendship. Not just friendship but life in general. It doesn’t matter whether or not your different from every pony in Equestria, what matters is that as long as you have friends who will always stick by your side you will never really ever be alone in this life. I saw this today when Rainbow Dash took Derpy Hooves flying with her. I got to see true loyalty at its finest. I also got to witness a rare and wonderful sight a pony that already had her cutie mark get something far more valuable. I saw a Bubble Blast today; it came from none other than Derpy Hooves our well known and loved mail mare, cross eyed and all. A strange thing happened after the Bubble Blast though, her eyes went straight, and it wasn’t getting her cutie mark that made her realize her true place in life, but having her eyes straighten out. She was a bit shocked at first but as soon as she got used to it she went around hugging every pony. Anyways I digress as I sometimes do. The lesson was that even though different and cross eyed, derpy was able to still be who she was, loved and cared about by quite a few. Those that didn’t like her were the ones who learned the lesson today. Never judge a pony for her looks or the way she is on the outside, even though one may have a cutie mark it doesn’t mean they have reached their full potential in life. Sometimes it takes the love of close friends and a bit of persuasion to leave ones comfort zone to actually reach your full potential in life. When you do you may find you gain more than just a cutie mark, You may learn the reason you were given the life and experiences you have been through was so you could one day overcome them all.

The rest of the main 6 and Derpy wrote the 2 princesses their own letters as well. Even Dinky wrote one which she shared with her class the next day.
The Bubble Blast would go down in history as the day Derpy Hooves finally got everything she had always wanted. Yes she was made fun of for different things here and there, but with everything Dash had taught her she would just let it roll off her back. She and Dash spent days together often times. When Dash had nothing to do she would just simply fly, enjoying each other’s company and the air flowing through their manes.
It wasn’t a few days later that the bolts came back to Ponyville to check in on their newest members and see how they were doing, and of course the ponies of Ponyville got another free show. What could they say they enjoyed seeing every pony happy, and it made them all feel great inside knowing that they could do it.
The 2 princesses also had learned something that day as well. They had learned that yes even though they were different and had basically nothing in common they were still sisters and that would never change. As time went on Luna would get used to having more of a role in the castle and she enjoyed it. She would often come to Ponyville to visit all the ponies and they actually weren’t afraid of her. In fact she would often times sneak off with Dash and Derpy for some alone time and to simply enjoy the freedom of carefree flight. They would race, barrel roll, and they would loop all for the pure enjoyment of being free, Rainbow Dash doing her Sonic Rain Boom and, Derpy doing the Bubble Blast. They would also occasionally go on tour with the bolts as guests both of the princesses, and of the bolts, they would travel all throughout Equestria putting on shows for all.
As it turned out Pinkie was actually quite good at handling the twins along with Dinky. She thought at first that she wouldn’t be able to do so, but she learned how to set aside time for all she had to do.
Derpy stayed with the mail service of Ponyville, and due to her not being cross eyed anymore was now able to fly making it easier to deliver mail to the ponies of Equestria. She always told her daughter at the end of every day that she could be anything she set her heart and mind to, and was capable of doing anything as long as she had faith and a dream. This drove Dinky to strive hard and become just like her mother.
