Waking Up and Reigning in your Urges (Chapter 2)

Pain. Pain was all you felt. In your bones, in your wings, and in your back. You attempt to sit up, but immediately moan in agony and laid back down. You attempt to move your wings but you stop and wince immediately. ‘Ohhhhh sooooo much painnnnn…’ you groan internally. Deciding not to move for a long while, you get your bearings. You look around. ‘Messy floor, but not around me. Messy wall, messy hoard, this is not my cave. Also apparently I have bandages.’ Taking a few more looks around, you notice a red and orange lump on the other side of the cave.

‘Garble? Why am I in Garble’s cave’ you question yourself. In fact there was so many questions, you just gave up trying to put the pieces together in your head. Your movement (and loud moan of agony) must have woken Garble (‘or he was never asleep -shut up brain’). He yawned, stretched, and got up. He walked over to where you are, and sat down.

“Hey fizzle”, he says remarkably gently, looking at your bandages, “How are you doing?”

“So much pain.” you state, somewhat trailing off at the end, “What am I doin here?”

“You fell into a trap when we were going ruin raiding,” he replies, standing up and grabbing a few gems, “You got pretty beat up. You broke your wings, so you won’t be flying for awhile, and your backs really hurt from what I could see.” ‘Well, he’s definitely not a medical expert’ you think to yourself, ‘I thought I gave him those books! And I fell into a trap?’ Suddenly the memories flooded back, and you were slightly sickened.

“Why am I here?” you question while very very slowly trying to sit up, “Why didn't you put me back in my cave?”

“Because one, if I had left you there you would have probably bled out or something,” he explains. ‘You should have’ you retort in your head, ‘At least my pathetic existence would have ended’. It was true, you don’t really value your own life. Your parents had abandoned you at such an early age, and left you in the badlands, with only the memory of a strange creature dropping you off here. Just like everyone else, minus the strange creature. At sometime you had started to feel really depressed about it, even a couple of times taking a rather sharp gemstone and..

“Fizzle, bro? You paying attention?” you hear Garble say rather delicately. Looking up at him, you notice he has a concerned expression.

“Sorry man” you reply, “I was spacing out”

“Don’t do it again,” he says, “Anyway, basically you are here because you would have died otherwise, and that it’s my fault for getting you into this situation”

“What? It’s not your fault!” you say rather surprised and concerned.

“Yes it is, I could have sent you anywhere else, I also could have paired you up with someone better”

“What’s wrong with Spear?” you ask.

“He’s on herb all the time and he split up from you”

“That was my idea”

“It was a stupid idea” he deadpans with a slight dash of parental-style disapproval.

“Sorry…” you look down and mutter. At times like this you need a good sharp gemstone.

Garble suddenly crawled over and took your head into his hands, and forced you to look at him.

“No, don’t blame yourself for it. You didn’t know about the trap. I take full responsibility” he said committedly and softly. You understood clearly, but you were currently staring at Garble’s face. ‘Oh god he’s so sexy don’t do anything stupid don’t kiss him just say ok and something witty.’

“A-alright then. H-hey, wasn’t it a little faggy to grab my face like that” you retort. He immediately takes his hands off of your face.

“Shut up you homo,” he mutters back, handing you the gems he got, “Here, eat these. You must be hungry, you haven’t been up for about, I don’t know, 3 days?”

“What!” you all but shout at him, “3 days!?”

“Yeah, you got pretty beat up,” he says, “Anyway, you better rest and eat while I go get your stuff, you’re going to be here awhile. Also, if you tell anyone how nice I’m being right now, I’m going to be ‘nice’ to your face once you’ve healed,” he then stands up, goes out to the entrance, picks up the bag that was by the entrance, takes one look back at you, and flaps his wings, taking him towards your cave.

‘Why was he so nice you me? He’s a lot nicer to me than the other dragons, that's for sure.’ You take a look at the gems Garble brought you, and you smile. ‘Sapphires, my favorite’ you think to yourself, ‘Wait a minute…’

“HOW DOES HE KNOW THEY ARE MY FAVORITE”
