Golden "Carrot Top" Harvest, the best friend of young Ditzy Doo, better known as Derpy, and the biological mother of Dinky Doo, has died after acquiring a lethal illness that she failed to recover from. This leaves Dinky motherless and Derpy depressed to the point even her favourite muffins can't cheer her up.

But upon learning that Dinky's life seems to have gone downhill ever since the death of her mother, Amethyst "Sparkler" Star, the adoptive daughter of Derpy, convinces her mother to take the little filly in. Realizing this may be something Carrot would've wanted, Derpy accepts.

After taking the now orphaned Dinky into their home, the responsibility of caring for a little filly of her own soon begins to prove that it's too much for the mentally and physically disabled Pegasus. Or is it?
