They go into some of the most hazardous and gruesome places. One gruesome mission involved the rescue of 6 citizens from a labour camp in The Crystal Empire. There, they found a pit containing the torched and mutilated bodies of 60 executed political prisoners. This was later used as evidence in the trials of several former generals in The Crystal Empire. The B.O.T. are extremely important in the military. They are often part of the first attack on a country after war has been declared on said country by Equestria. They are also experts in counter-terrorism operations and counter-insurgency operations. Their existence was denied by the government until 2009, though by then, everyone knew who they were, though not many knew just how dangerous their missions were, until now. The 1st mission against the Crystal Empire was launched in 1995. It was a covert mission to set bombs on the cars of nuclear scientists in the country. It had Nuclear Weapons, but nothing more powerful than 6 Little Boy bombs, and no missiles with ranges longer than IRBMs.. However, it was trying to build an ICBM with a warhead as powerful as 3 megatons of TNT. The bombs were small but powerful. Made of 2 pounds of C4, they could easily be placed under the cover of night. They would be placed on 8 cars and were timed to go off during rush hour the next day on July 8. On July 7, 15 B.O.T. soldiers sneaked into the capital of the country disguised as Crystal Empire soldiers using a spell. All 8 bombs were placed successfully, and the 15 agents were quickly sneaked out of the country by members of the underground resistance working for Equestria. Sure enough, on July 8, all 8 bombs exploded, killing 6 of the scientists and 4 others. The mission, codenamed Mission GTH6, was a success. The Crystal Empire vowed to punish Equestria for the attack. On July 15, 4 crystal ponies were arrested in Equestria attempting to wire up a car filled with 20 pounds of explosives in Manehattan. It was widely believed King Sombra I personally ordered this thwarted attack on the largest city in Equestria. All 4 ended up getting death sentences and were executed by Lethal Injection at Tartarus Imperial Prison in 2000, having been tried by a national court rather than a provincial court. The next day, Princess Celestia had a tense meeting with the commander of the Royal Guard. The meeting was taped but not made public until 2012. An alliance between Changelina and The Crystal Empire was the last thing anyone in Equestria or its allies wanted. It was up to the B.O.T. to disrupt this and make sure the 2 biggest threats to Equestria stayed away from each other, as well as achieve other objectives. Mission FDJ9 1995August 12, 1995. It was a cold day as usual at the Gurunsheh Air Base in the Frozen North. The Tu-16 and Il-28 bombers were all neatly aligned on the tarmac, their crews resting inside on this cold day. Though the bombers were outdated compared to Equestrian hardware, they could still pack a punch by carrying nuclear bombs. Inside the hangars were the fighters. For primary bomber escort, they often used MiG-21s and MiG-17s. They had modified them to have refuelling booms to extend their ranges. Meanwhile, 25 B.O.T. members were outside the base loading their weapons. Using a spell, they disguised themselves as guards. They quickly discussed an action plan and moved in. The real guards let them in, thinking they were here to guard a shipment of air-to-air missiles just flown in from Khrystehl, the capital of The Crystal Empire. The B.O.T. members spoke little as they went in, but they did ask if any of the planes were armed with Nuclear Weapons. The guards replied that they were not armed at the time. They quickly and quietly split up and managed to rig 7 bombers with explosives. But then, a guard noticed them and shouted for others to shoot the B.O.T. operatives. What happened next is still debated. The B.O.T. squad leader said later in an interview with Equestria News Network in 2013 that the Air Base's guards shot first and that no guards surrendered. However, The Crystal Empire said that the team shot first and that they executed a prisoner they took. Whatever happened, 5 B.O.T. members died and they almost had to abort the mission. Luckily, they were able to secure an RPG-7 and were able to push away the guards. They then shot some guards that had turned on a transport plane and quickly climbed on board. Luckily, one of them knew how to fly the plane. After taxiing to the runway and beginning to take off, they set off the explosives and destroyed 9 planes. Though the air base guards did manage to fire some missiles at the stolen plane, they evaded them and flew away. The mission achieved its objective on wreaking havoc at the base, but at a high cost. It had been the first time they lost a soldier in combat since 1979, and it was tough on them. But The Crystal Empire decided to increase their suffering. Within 3 days of the mission, the Generals in charge of The Crystal Empire ordered that pictures of the mutilated and burned bodies of the 5 fallen B.O.T. members be put on propaganda leaflets and dropped onto Equestria. Though 2 planes were shot down before they could deliver their payload, 5 payloads were delivered and caused outrage across the country. "When Celestia was presented with one of the leaflets," said a guard, who will remain anonymous due to legal concerns. "She used a spell to rip it up and then punched a window, breaking it. She then said to us, 'This has gone far enough!'" "She tried to use diplomacy to solve the Griffon Empire Embassy hostage crisis, when 12 hostages were killed by terrorists in 1982, but it didn't work. So afterwards, extremely disturbed and having a mental breakdown that peace hadn't solved the problem, adopted a 'no negotiation' policy for terrorism, similar to Ronald Reagan. This policy required the use of force to combat terrorists and those who sponsored terror. Anyone, in her view, who attacked Equestria and its citizens, needed to be destroyed. One of the agents, whose name we cannot reveal due to fear of reprisal against us and him, said, "It was a high-risk operation. We had no clue if the CRA was going to buy the whole disguise. Amazingly, they did. We were all surprised afterwards that they had all fallen for it." At exactly 17:00 hours, all 5 bombs went off. All had been planted in the control building of each camp. The blasts killed 36 terrorists, including 6 high-ranking CRA commanders. It was a devastating blow to the terrorist group. The next day, on December 9, the Board of Generals, the leaders of the Crystal Empire's government, announced that in response to the attacks, they had executed 15 political prisoners at random. On December 17, the CRA blew up the Israeli embassy in the Dragon Empire in a suicide car bomb attack, killing 54 and injuring over 200. Celestia, who had been meeting with the emperor of the country at the time, Hanmen XVI, issued a statement that read, "In response to these recent attacks on Israeli property on Equus, I would like to reiterate that this planet shall not nor will it ever be a staging ground for the Arab-Israeli conflict, and anyone who tries to spread the conflict to our world will be swiftly dealt with through military force. As a response to the recent suicide car bombing of the Israeli embassy in the Dragon Empire, I have authorised the Imperial Equestrian Air Force to bomb a CRA weapons facility in Zebrabwe, with the full consent and cooperation of the President of Zebrabwe." Equestria not only had to deal with the CRA, but they also had to deal with a relatively new terrorist group in the Islamic Crescent of Equus. It was called "The Islamic Jihad of the Crescent Peninsula." It was formed in 1992 with the backing of several jihadists from Earth, including Al-Qaeda. In 2002, the IJCP would change its name to "Al-Qaeda in Equus." In 1993, in the IJCP's first major attack, a gunman killed 25 at a shopping mall in the Saddle Arabian capital of Al Akdim. The plan went forward on December 8, 1996. 5 Pro-Equestrian changeling agents went to the 5 camps, disguised as CRA terrorists. One of the agents, whose name we cannot reveal due to fear of reprisal against us and him, said, "It was a high-risk operation. We had no clue if the CRA was going to buy the whole disguise. Amazingly, they did. We were all surprised afterwards that they had all fallen for it." At exactly 17:00 hours, all 5 bombs went off. All had been planted in the control building of each camp. The blasts killed 36 terrorists, including 6 high-ranking CRA commanders. It was a devastating blow to the terrorist group. The next day, on December 9, the Board of Generals, the leaders of the Crystal Empire's government, announced that in response to the attacks, they had executed 15 political prisoners at random. This was confirmed by spies in the country. This earned the pariah state another round of condemnation from the international community. On December 17, the CRA blew up the Israeli embassy in the Dragon Empire in a suicide car bomb attack, killing 54 and injuring over 200. Celestia, who had been meeting with the emperor of the country at the time, Hanmen XVI, issued a statement that read, "In response to these recent attacks on Israeli property on Equus, I would like to reiterate that this planet shall not nor will it ever be a staging ground for the Arab-Israeli conflict, and anyone who tries to spread the conflict to our world will be swiftly dealt with through military force. As a response to the recent suicide car bombing of the Israeli embassy in the Dragon Empire, I have authorised the Imperial Equestrian Air Force to bomb a CRA weapons facility in Zebrabwe, with the full consent and cooperation of the President of Zebrabwe." These strikes had been conducted on December 20, a day before this statement had been issued. Equestria not only had to deal with the CRA, but they also had to deal with a relatively new terrorist group in the Islamic Crescent of Equus. It was called "The Islamic Jihad of the Crescent Peninsula." It was formed in 1992 with the backing of several jihadists from Earth, including Al-Qaeda. In 2002, the IJCP would change its name to "Al-Qaeda in Equus." In 1993, in the IJCP's first major attack, a gunman killed 25 at a shopping mall in the Saddle Arabian capital of Al Akdim. After this, Equestria proscribed both the IJCP and Al-Qaeda as terrorist groups. At the same time, a power struggle was developing between 2 factions in the CRA: One was the secular nationalist faction, and the other was the Islamist faction. Due to the population demographics of Changelina, Chrysalis and her father had surrounded themselves with many Muslim advisors, some of whom were growing more and more extreme. Ultimately, after Chrysalis gained the throne, she let the Islamist faction of the CRA do most of the planning and carrying out of attacks due to her favourable opinion on the brutality of their attacks. A coup in 2000 by CRA secular nationalists was put down by Chrysalis, effectively ripping away what little power the secular nationalists had in the CRA by this point. In the Crystal Empire, the generals that led the country in Sombra's place, growing more fearful of the Islamist faction of the CRA, decided to terminate the country's alliance with them and had them evicted from the country. This was very unexpected, and it threw the B.O.T. completely off-guard. As one former B.O.T. commander said, "When that happened, it was like a freight train just came out of left field at over 200 miles an hour. That's how surprised we were when those generals evicted the CRA."
