Chapter One
Chapter One: Heartbroken
The gentle breeze of the cool night wind tickled against the forest leaves. The animals that inhabited it were either up looking for a midnight snack or sound asleep under the safety of darkness. The sound of heavy flapping echo throughout the forest awoken some of the inhabitants. Cries of a fearsome beast ran though even the toughest of predators, forcing them to hide in fear. It was a blur, but the figure’s tears stained the earth below him.
The said figure... was Spike.
‘How could she!? I trusted her, and she betrayed me like that!?’ As the thought ran through his mind, Spike opened his wings and took flight, speeding through the forest like a predator chasing its prey. The strong flapping caused the limbs of his wings to scream in pain, but Spike didn’t care. This pain was nothing compared to the pain of his broken heart.
After flying for awhile, Spike’s wings had succumbed to fatigue, and he crashed into a tree. At the moment the young dragon, chose to just lie there, thinking it didn’t matter if something came along and feast on his body. The heartbroken dragon was so depressed, it would be a blessing if something came and put him out of his misery.
‘And her,' Spike thought of the mare who angered him the most. ‘She toyed with me, with my feelings, my heart! I gave her everything, yet she only took me for granted and used those feelings for her own gain.’
Spike got up and ran, both in disgusted and hurt. It didn’t matter if the soft moonlight faded under the black clouds that hovered above, or that it soon began to rain. He wanted to escape, to escape the pain of feeling betrayed, to escape the pain that coursed through his heart, but more importantly, to escape “them”. The rain grew heavier with each passing minute.
Deja vu hit Spike like a ton of bricks as he remembered the last time he ran away. He remembered a cave filled to the brim with delicious gems, he remembered the green dragon that almost killed him many years ago. Fortunately, Spike was in another part of the Everfree Forest where he knew there would be no other dragons this far out. What really surprised him at the moment, was the cave that he had just ran into. The cave was just big enough for a adult size feral dragon to fit.
Spike walked around for quite some time until he saw a faint glow. Curious, he walked over to see sparkling gemstones that shine in the darkness. The dragon’s stomach roared, tempting him to dig in on the tasty gems that laid before him. He took a step forward, but then remembered what happened last time.
“Anybody there?” Spike asked growing nervous. “I-I mean you no harm, I’m just a runaway teenage dragon, looking for food!” he yelled and pleaded, his voice echoed throughout the cave. Unbeknownst to Spike, there was something, or rather someone,lying deep ahead, weak and waiting to be fed.
With no answer coming from the owner, or anything else for that matter, Spike picked up two rubies and three quartzes. He bit into the delicious gems and sighed in relief as his stomach stopped growling. When he finished his snack, Spike continued walking down the cavern. Having no idea he was walking closer to the figure that was hiding within the depths of the cave.
“Come closer boy...” a voice echoed through the cave, it sounded subdued and had an eerie feeling behind it.
“Hello?” Spike’s voice rang throughout the cave.
“Closer...” the voice rang through the air again. The dragon walked, but then stopped to see that the noise was coming from behind the rocky pillar that held the cave up. Spike gulped as he stared at the beautiful creature. Aside from being partly nude, a sickly green cloth that covered her midsection and rather large bust. The same color cloth was also wrapped around her thighs, almost like she was heading to the beach. Her long, dark green hair flowed down her back and parted around her crooked horn. What surprised the drake the most however, was the crown adorned on her head. Lastly he noticed there were holes in both her hands and legs.
“Y-y-your Chrysalis!” he stuttered taking a step backwards to the wall behind him. The queen took a step forward towards the panicking young drake. “W-what are you doing here?”
“I’m surprised that you remember me my dear dragon.” she said with a smirk. The former queen looked into his eyes, she saw the pain cause by the ponies he known thought out his entire life, more specifically, those two mares, that shatter heart. But that didn’t matter to her, as she could always repair it.
“To answer your question dragon, after the fall of my kingdom, me and those that was loyal to me nearly died from starvation. I then scattered what little remains of my children all over Equestria to find food for themselves.” The queen explained, taking another step towards the dragon. “Don’t try to fight it dear” she purred, “Those two ponies betrayed you, am I right?”
“H-how did you...” he began, but was cut off when Chrysalis placed a finger to his lips.
“I’m a changeling remember? I can see the emotions running through you.” she answered Spike took another step back, only to hit the cavern wall. Her words were true, everypony hated him by now, even them. What he said to them, to her, was unforgivable.
Chrysalis stared at Spike with hungry eyes. “Don’t fight it my dear dragon,” her dual-tone voice echoed in the dragon’s head. His limbs stiffened and his breathing became rapid. Instinctively, Spike opened his maw, and spat out a green fireball, intending to burn her. Despite the queen’s weakened state, she was still agile, sidestepping to the left at the last minute, she was able to avoid the flame. Her swift movement drew her closer to her target. “Don’t worry sweetie,” Chrysalis leaned closer to the dragon. “I’ll shower you with all the love those ponies didn’t.” Without hesitation, their lips met, Spike could feel her tongue rubbing against his lips. He didn’t want this, he never thought that a changeling, let alone, the queen would kiss him.
‘Why would she kiss me? Maybe it’s pity, or something to that nature. But still...’
Spike involuntarily opened his maw, allowing the beautiful queen to dominate his lips. Upon opening his eyes, Spike began to hear her whispers, “Follow me Spike, and I promise, you’ll never feel alone, unwanted, or betrayed ever again.” Chrysalis’ frail, but beautiful body pressed against his. Her soft, big breasts, the warmth of her fur coat, the scent of nature itself. Spike firmly groped one of her supple breasts, admiring the soft feeling. His claws dug into both her cloth and fur, earning him a moan of pleasure. His mind drifted away.
Friendship Castle
Early that evening
It started out like any other day. Ponies walked around talking, laughing, or in Rainbow’s case, napping. However, today was different for the local residents inside of the Castle of friendship, more specifically, Spike the dragon. The purple and green scaled dragon that ware a black short sleeved shirt with pictures of pony skull in flames. Was laying on his queen size bed Twilight got for him after his growth spurt three years ago in his room. Spike has been doing chores all day long as punishment for getting into a fight with his adoptive sister.
He was annoyed. It wasn’t the fact that he was doing chores, it was much worse. Today was a special day. Today is Princess Twilight Sparkle’s birthday, another event that Spike wasn’t invited to due to his punishment. But to add insult to injury, Twilight had brought along her pet Owlowiscious, but not him.
This infuriated Spike to no end, as he had always been there for the ones he called his friend/sister. He would keep Twilight sane, he fought Diamond dogs to free Rarity, rescued Applejack from being eaten alive by Timberwolves, save entire empire from King Sombra, prevented an accident at the Equestrian Game.Yet, Spike wasn’t invited to welcome Miss Hashwinning for the Equestrian games, nor any of Twilight’s birthday parties. Though he had grown accustomed to this, adjusting to it just as something that his caretaker does.
What really bothered Spike’s was the late night dates Twilight has been having. The lavender princess would come home at around three in the morning, sometimes even very next day. Spike had to worry for the lavender alicorn, not knowing if she may come home hurt, or not came home at all. Just because she’s become an alicorn, doesn’t mean she is above being injured. Spike sighed, ‘These mixed feelings are gonna give me an headache.’
The sun was setting over the city of Ponyville as Spike finished his chores. He wished that his beloved Rarity was here or any of his friends for that matter, but she like the rest of the girls,there were in Canterlot. With a soft sigh, the teenaged dragon took out one of his favorite comics The mystic adventure of Fortune Seer and began reading. Within a couple of minutes of reading the dragon felt queasy all of the sudden. Spike knew this feeling all too well, it happened whenever someone sent him anything mostly letters.The dragon burped out a scroll with the royal seal and an invite. Spike picked it up, and ripped the off the seal so he could read it.
Dear Spike
Thou art truly sorry for you not being invited to Twilight Sparkle’s birthday party. She had informed us that you and her got into a little fight last week, involving her well being. We know how thou feels to be left out. That’s why we sent thou an invitation for Princess Sparkle’s birthday party. We know thou are quick in flight thanks to Rainbow Dash’s teachings. We hope to see you soon.
Sincerely your friend/aunt, Princess Luna of Equestria.
PS: I believe our score in the art of gaming is 10 to 10. Best be prepared my dear nephew.
Spike chuckled at the last line of the letter, as he always played games with Luna whenever Princess Celestia was either too busy, or too tired to spend time with him. The two would also tell each other their deepest and darkest secrets, like Spike having a crush on Rarity, or Luna wanting to abandon her royal status to live as a normal mare. Luna with the help of Dragon lord Ember teach Spike about his kind, such as a dragons can live up to six thousand years. Tho they can still be killed. She even stated that alicorns could be killed just as easily as anypony but only her and Celesta are semi immortal.
Smiling and putting the invite in his pocket, Spike went into his bathroom, wash up, put on a new set of clothes then exited the castle and locked the door behind him. He then spread his wings and took flight. It would take at least ten minutes to get to the castle by flight. At least he would get to have fun with the princess of the night. If the day princess wasn't to busy.
Royal Canterlot Gardens: 5:40pm
It was that time of the year once again, an event so rare, that it would make the Grand Galloping Gala look like a kiddy party. The princess’s birthday party. Normally, Celestia or Luna would celebrate their birthday every century, and since Twilight was the newly crown princess, it was customary for them to throw her one as well. Usually there would mostly be nobles invited. Sadly there were. Along with Twilight’s parents, brother, and sister-in-law as well as all of the princess friends, with the exception of one.
The garden itself, was decorated with streamers, balloons, and all things party related, compliments of a pink party pony. The food was delivered by the Apple and Cake families and was set out in rows on the tables. Normally at events like this, the guests would be dressed up in fancy outfits, but per the request of the birthday mare, the party remained casual. This wish was somewhat fulfilled by everypony except for Fancy Pants, Fleur, the the nobles.
Princess Luna looked up at the sky, waiting for her friend to show. She was wearing a midnight blue dress, form fitting to present her rather large bust, yet was cleaveless to preserve her modesty and her black stocking that rode up to her thighs. The most fascinating feature of her dress, was how both parts of her crescent moon cutie mark were visible to those who wanted to behold them.
“Who are you waiting for Lulu?” a soft voice spoke. The moon princess turned her head to see her older sister Princess Celestia. The white alicorn wore a beautiful gold dress that barely held her large G-cup bust. Like Luna, Celestia’s multicolored mane and tail flowed gently with the nonesxting wind.
“Oh just an old friend. He should be here any moment now,” she answered and looked toward the sky that was heading towards Ponyville. She kept staring for she could feel that Spike was only about five minutes away.
Twilight was pacing around in her room. The lavender mare was wearing her princess outfit she had once worn during her coronation. She was nervous not that one of the four princesses should ever be nervous, but telling everypony that she had found that special pony, the pony who captured her heart, that was very large news. She felt a tad sad however. Twilight knew that she would hurt Spike by dating her. He would properly leave her forever if he found out. But worst of all, he’ll come to hate her. The first pony she ever told was the princess of the sun herself. She advised Twilight to tell him before things get worst, but knowing Twilight, her second worst fear was losing her best friend throughout her life. She never told him, in fact, she has been dating his crush behind his back.
“Is something the matter darling?” a soft voice asked. Her voice alone made the princess’s heart flutter. Twilight’s purple eyes gazed upon Rarity’s glory, she wore a long cyan colored dress, decorated with baby blue sapphires around the hips. Her curled purple mane flowed flawlessly past her shoulders, as her ocean blue eyes met Twilight’s. “It’s Spike isn’t it?” she asked and received a nod in reply. Rarity walked on over to her marefriend and wrapped her arms in a tight embrace.
Guilt filled Twilight’s eyes, she was very close to crying for betraying Spike’s feelings. “He has a crush on you, and I promised not to tell anypony about it. I even told him that I would help him be with the mare he loves.” The tears finally rolled down her cheeks, “Yet in the end, I betrayed his trust.”
Rarity understood completely, as Spike would always help her when orders piled up, as well as comfort her when a stallion broke her heart. Sometimes he even modeled for her, despite the humiliation. Yet despite all Spike did to get her attention, Rarity never felt the same way for him as she felt for Twilight.
“I know darling, I know,” she said, placing her lover’s head against her soft breasts. “Still, we should be going, we don’t want to keep everypony waiting.” Twilight nodded and walked out of the room with the white unicorn following behind.
Back at the party, Spike had just arrived in the middle of the garden. Luna was the first one to greet him, followed by Thorax, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Shining Armor and Cadance, the Apple family, Babs Seed, Sweetie Belle who cheeks turned red, Scootaloo, Fancy Pants, and finally his adopted mother Princess Celestia. She like the everyone else was shocked to see the dragon present. Luna explained that she was the one who gave Spike the invitation, and that they have a tie to settle. Unfortunately Celestia wanted him to leave at once before it was too late. In fact it was this love for the one she called her own son dearly, she just wanted to spare his feelings. More specifically save him from one feeling altogether, the feeling of being betrayed.
“Where are Twi and Rarity?” Spike asked, looking around the garden.
“Spike listen,” Celestia bean as gently as she could manage, “It would be best that you leave right now.” The ponies around gasped incredulous at what the sun deity had just said, she just told Spike to leave his own guardian’s birthday party.
“Uh, why princess?” Spike asked, confused and somewhat hurt by what he had just heard. The only time she would ask him to leave was whenever she had day court to attend or diplomacy meeting. Celestia only frowned in response as she turned to her subjects, this would be a lot easier if it wasn’t if she was alone with him. She would explained what’s been happening between Twilight and Rarity. She would be there to comfort him, just like all the times when he cried as an infant, due to not wanting to be left alone. If all these ponies weren’t here, she would’ve acted like the mother she was and not the princess they expected her to be. Celestia should have never promised Twilight to keep this a secret, it was tearing her apart.
“Trust me Spike, it’s best if you...” she was unfortunately cut off when a bright light appear blinding everyone attending the party. When the light disappeared, there standing in the middle, was the lavender princess along with her unicorn marefriend.
“Everypony!” Twilight began, “I have some news I would like to share with you all.” All of the ponies and Spike stood there giving their full attention. Both Twilight’s and Rarity’s eyes widened seeing the dragon standing there. At that moment, they both wanted to leave, as they both feared what would happen when the beans spilled. Twilight looked at her teacher, who only nodded.
“He needs to know!” that was what her expression shouted to her.
“A-As you are all aware, I have found a special s-somepony. I-I-I have been seeing this pony for the past three years.” Twilight announced as she began to sweat. Each word became more difficult to say, but she forced herself to continue. “A-and I would like for you all to meet m-my fiancé” She felt bad for having to crush her best friend’s heart like this, but it had to be done. The princess looked at Spike with eyes full of sorrow.
As Twilight turned toward Rarity, their eyes met each other, signifying to each other that they were ready to face the wrath of the heartbroken dragon.Their lips met, passion burning throughout their bodies. The ponies gasped with the exception of Celestia. The sun princess herself didn't care if ponies were watching, she knew that this act alone had already shattered her son’s heart. She began crying silently as she wrapped her arms around him, drawing him ever so close to her soft bosom.
Spike was already lost in thought at the scene that was happening before his very eyes. All those years, all the work he put in, all those long hours of digging through dirt. He even swallowed his pride to wear a bucking dress, and for what? For his so-called sister to come in and take the love of his life away from him. Suddenly however, it hit him, the whole reason why Twilight had been returning home late for the past few nights.
“I see,” Celestia felt Spike’s arm tremble in a growing rage. “When were you planning on telling me this?” Spike declared, his words calm and composed as he pushed the princess of of him.
“We were going to tell you shortly after the party Spike. We never meant to hurt you like this!” Rarity stated. Her eyes showing her sorrow for the poor dragon that had just lost his longest crush to his so-called sister.
Spike nodded his head, slowly taking in this new information as best he could. A vein on his forehead popped out as he grew angrier by the second. Yet, he spoke calmly.
“So for three years, I’ve been working my tail off, comforting you when those stallions had dumped you, doing everything in my power to make you notice me, but you slept with Twilight behind my back, huh?” He said still appearing calm as he spoke. Celestia wasn't fooled by Spike’s facade, he only looked calm on the outside. Inside however, the young purple drake was the farthest thing from pleased.
Spike switched from looking at Rarity to Twilight, ”And you...” he said pointing at the purple mare, “The one pony I trusted the more than any other, to confide my secrets to, had went on, not only fall in love but marrying the only pony I have ever wanted,” He spoke, while nodding. ”I trusted you with everything, you know that. I told you that I loved her, and you even promised me you’d help me win her heart, but instead, you betray me? How could you?” Twilight didn’t know what she was looking at. Spike’s words contained such sway and pain, while his face and voice held nothing but indifference. She felt horrible for what she had done to him, to her own brother.
“Spike-” Twilight was cut off by a purple claw held to her lips. This left her to ponder, ‘When did he get so close?’
“It’s fine Twilight,” the tender and comfort in his words were obviously sarcastic. “I mean, how could I have been so blind?!” He walked off, his hands flailing in the air. “I mean, Rarity’s a mare, you’re a mare, and I’m just a dragon. His claw covered his eyes, “A stupid and pathetic dragon at that, huh!?” He then parted his claws so that he could stare at the two. Nothing but hate and betrayal filled the poor dragon’s eyes.
“Spikey it’s not-” Rarity this time, had been cut off by a slight gust from one of Spike’s wings.
“Oh but it must be!” he said as he took a step towards Rarity, closing the distance between them a single step. Muzzle to muzzle he spoke, “I mean, three years. Three years of Spike take a letter, Spikey, can you help me? Here for the princess, I need a big strong dragon. How?!” Spike chortled. His emerald eyes began to shine as he continued his rant “Three years of smiles, laughs, and hope. Bah! You both must have thought it was a BUCKING hilarious!” The drake’s tone started to change to match his true emotions of the outrageous situation.
“I cleaned up your messes and did countless favors, all in hopes of gaining your affections, to perhaps find some love one day.” He stopped and stared at them both with hatred in those slit eyes. “Alas, BOTH of you had known all this time, that this wouldn’t happen,” Spike said with a deep breath, “A shame on my part then.” He turned to Luna, “I’m sorry Luna, but it seems I’ll have to cancel our game night.” His angry and sarcastic tone, had briefly turned into one of sadness, as he was actually looking forward to spending time with his adoptive aunt.
Shining Armor finally intervened and took a few steps to try and comfort the drake. “Spike, little guy come-”
“Shining...” Spike’s tone had instantly turned into one dark and sharp. “Don’t!” he finished and began walking off to the edge of the garden.
“Spike! Please-” but again, Twilight had been cut off. Spike had had enough of these ponies trying to make excuses.
“Sparkle...” that one word made all those present shiver in fear. “ONE MORE WORD OUT OF YOU OR RARITY, AND I WON’T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS!!” Twilight fell to her knees terrified, Spike had actually threatened to hurt, maybe even kill her.
“I’m only going to say this once so listen!” Twilight gulped but nodded slowly. “Don’t fool yourself into thinking we’re still friends. I want to make it clear, you and Rarity are officially dead to me.” With that said, Spike turned his attention to the edge, “I’m leaving, and don’t expect me home tonight, tomorrow, the day after...” he paused each word as he prepared for takeoff, “...or anytime else.” he finished. Those were the final words he spoke before falling over the edge. During mid fall, Spike quickly extended his wings and flew away from Canterlot.
~~~~~~~
{Spike’s P.O.V.}
I’m falling. I can’t see the bottom, just darkness. Nothing but darkness. I haven’t jumped yet, I can tell that much. There’s no rush of the wind, none of the sting of frosty air……... Yet I’m falling? I wonder how long it’ll be till I reach the bottom? Will it hurt when I hit? Am I still gonna feel it? Was I high enough so that I will actually die? Wait ,I haven’t jumped yet. I’m just falling with the ground still beneath my feet.
Funny, just when you think the world can’t kick you any lower, somehow it finds a sledgehammer and smashes the ground beneath you. “Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t see this coming. Those late nights, Twilight coming with me to help Rarity. It was so obvious! I was stupid to have not seen it. Oh well, now I don’t have to worry about that.” The winds moving, the air is biting, and I am truly falling. I close my eyes. Waiting for impact, waiting for it to end, then my wings open up and I soar away.
Back in the cave
Spike woke up, remembering the nightmare he had the other day. He placed his hand on his head from the fact of him having a major headache. He looked down and found a nude queen laying on his chest. His eyes widened in shock out of surprise, as the gears in his head began to spin. He had slept with the queen of the changelings, and she seemed very satisfied, as she was sleeping calmly on his chest. Spike gently lifted her off his chest, and laid her head on the floor. The drake begin to gather his clothes when he heard a soft yawn.
“And where do you think your going, Spikey?” Chrysalis asked with her eyes staring daggers at him. “And don’t lie!”
Spike gulped trying to think of a way to answer without angering Chrysalis. “Um... I was going-” he began but she cut him off.
“Where? To the place that will only hurt you? I think not!” her voice echoed through out his head again. “You’re going to stay here, and feed me. As I told you before unlike those insolent ponies, I won’t abandon you.” Spike nodded in understanding, he began feeling guilty about actually thinking of leaving Chrysalis behind.
“Yes my queen.” he said, as he dropped his clothes and walked directly toward her.
“Good,” she said, her angry expression was replaced by a sweet smile and she wiggled her finger in a sultry manner. “Now come here, your queen desires her breakfast.” She couldn’t stay mad at the drake who saved her, but at the same time, she was determined to prevent him from making foolish choices. Throughout the morning, the moans of a very hungry queen and a horny dragon could be heard throughout the entirety of the cave
