Day 7
I looked over my shoulder ignoring the large cut on my arm, the expression on my face said it all: it was still behind me. Sprinting farther into the woods trying to get away from it wasn't my best idea, but this thing could climb trees as well as fly above them, it wasn't like I could just out run it.
I sidestepped a fallen log trying to keep my footing in step, a distant roar signaled that it fell for my crude stake trap. I smiled to myself despite the situation.
"If I don't lose or kill this damn thing soon I'm gonna run out of forest to run through." I said to myself grimly. I shouldered my pack again as I jumped over a large branch, it caught my foot as I kissed the ground. The impact was as jarring as the fact that I had tripped in the first place.
I jumped up in rage and screamed at the monster stalking the woods, "WHAT THE FUCK DO I EVEN CALL YOU?!"
A much closer sounding roar responded to my scream. I huffed, "Bob it is."
I ran up to a nearby tree and began to shimmy up ignoring the splinters cutting my hands and legs. I finally got to a sturdy looking branch and sat on it. Putting my pack in front of me I pulled out one of the few things that had came with me to this god forsaken jungle. A standard machete, I made a silent vow to never part with this thing.
Gripping it reassuringly I began to look outward, staring, watching, waiting. A very close sounding growling answered my silent prayers. I slowly and carefully put myself in a kneeling position on the branch. Looking down I almost yelped. The lion thing had been right under me, smelling the ground trying to determine where I went.
I smiled, 'Looks like bobs on the menu.'
At that moment I jumped off producing the loudest most terrifying scream I could muster, it worked, the Manticore looked up in surprise just as my blade made contact with its now exposed neck.
Wiping my mouth from my ridiculously large meal, I looked over at the headless corpse while a tinge of guilt built in my gut.
"Ugh, now you got me feeling bad Bob. I know it wasn't my place to kill you but you made it obvious that if I didn't that I was gonna be the one without a head!" I laughed at my small jest as I walked back over to the fire I had built.
"Five days... Five days since I had came to this damn forest. And I'm happily, if not uncomfortably full, and in need of a nap." I began to pull out my sleeping bag when I hesitated, looking back at the dead manticore I sighed. Throwing my sleeping bag down safely away from the small fire I reached for my belt satchel. I pulled out my collapsible shovel and began unfolding it. The sun had began to set.
I glared at Bob, "You have a lot of nerve to be trouble for me even AFTER I killed you." I began to clear a spot for what I assumed would be one giant ass grave.
As I dug I couldn't help but think, "What I wouldn't do for a Unicorns help right now..."
I shook the thought from my head, "What am I thinking? I've read so many of those fanfic I'm letting hope get hold of me!"
I looked at the tiny hole I had just dug before frowning as I began to widen the hole. I pondered, "Would the ponies be just like in the show? What would Twilight do when she saw me?" My thought then shifted between her greeting me like a foreign emissary and her blasting me into a bloodstain screaming over and over: "EWEWEWEWEWEWEWEWEW!!!"
I chuckled, "That would be freaking hilarious!" I paused my digging, "Well, if it wasn't me."
The only hint I now had that I was somewhere new was that I was in the Everfree, I found Zecora's hut on day two, she saw me with a look of surprise, I can still remember her rhyming at me as a ran.
"Please come back here! You have nothing to fear!"
I ran till I could see her hut. I shoved the shovel back into what I thought was dirt till pain emitted from my foot, I threw down the shovel as I fell cursing and mumbling.
I looked at it finally to see that it hadn't cut skin or anything, I had simply just smashed the shovel into my foot.
"That... Sucked!" I jumped out of the hole using my other foot as my new dominant foot for the moment. I smiled, the hole seemed big enough for the manticore to fit in it. I frowned, "Wait, HOW THE HELL DO I GET HIM IN THERE?!"
