Origins of a Race

Celestia's sun rises over the land of Equestria, giving Princess Luna the signal retire from her job of setting the moon.  In Canterlot, early-morning workers wake and prepare themselves for another day.  Fancy Pants steps out onto his balcony, sipping his herbal tea while the deep purple of the sunset becomes a red-orange.  Fleur De Lis steps out as well, cloaked in her nightgown, wrapping her hooves around his neck in a sweet embrace.  In the town of Ponyville, the rooster crows at Sweet Apple Acres, signaling the Apple family's regular routine of eat, work, break, eat, work, eat, sleep.  Rainbow Dash, tired from her training as a Wonderbolt the previous day, shields herself from the sun with her cover.  Rarity woke with as much elegance as she had dozed off with, in the same position on her bed, with the same hairstyle, and with no wrinkles in her sheets.  It took her roughly two years to master this feat, but living a life of fashion and beauty calls for such abilities.  Fluttershy was awake two hours prior to the rising of the sun and was currently calming down a young Wyvern that had appeared from the Everfree forest, hoping to settle the issue before the town has time to discover it.  Through her telescope, Twilight Sparkle watched these events occur.  She quickly turned around at the sound of hoofsteps to see a Solar Guard bow and say that Princess Celestia would like to speak with her in the Starswirl the Bearded wing.  Twilight dismissed the guard, glancing back at the telescope and entered the hallway outside her quarters.

When the new princess arrived at the wing, she saw Celestia, Luna, and Cadence gathered around the center of the room.  It became clear that this was a matter of importance and not a simple reunion as the door was closed and locked behind her by a hasty guard, who then immediately departed from earshot.

"Hello, Twilight," said Cadence with a faint trace of solemnness.

"H-hello, Cadence," Twilight shifted to the other two "Princ- I-I mean Luna, Celestia," Twilight stuttered as she had not yet grown accustomed to not having to address them with their titles.

Celestia looked upon the young alicorn until breaking the silence with "Let's get down to business, then.  Twilight, as you know, there exists another world beyond the mirror in the Crystal Castle," as she and the four princesses began to move towards a lectern on which a large sheet of paper was set.

Twilight nodded, recalling the adventure of taking her crown back from Sunset Shimmer.  As the four reached the lectern, Luna began to write on the sheet with a quill.  Celestia explained that to not secure Equestria's safety would be foolish, so she had come to the conclusion to attempt to make peace.

"Though not in the way that you would think," Luna interjected.

Celestia nodded to Cadence and moved to Luna, who was now sketching some kind of figure upon the sheet.  Cadence looked at Twilight and elaborated on what Luna said.  Cadence said to Twilight that to step through the portal attempting to make peace with the humans would be out of the question due to how it would more than likely cause chaos in the human world, so the three sought another method that would be gradual, yet effective.

"We have decided to create..." Cadence paused to allow Twilight time to brace herself "...a link.  A link between the race of the humans and our own."

Luna set her quill down, and held up her sketch.  Twilight was shocked by the detail and thought put into this plan.  In the middle, there was a sketch of an alicorn pony, a human, and the prediction of what the new race shall look like.  The body looked mostly human, but the ears were that of a pony, the forehead had a symbol on it, to which an arrow labeled it "MAGIC SOURCE", and on the back were large wings.  Calculations of volume, density, and geometry were surrounding the sketch, all to make the wings not allow flight, but to provide an ability to glide long distances.  Atop the page, Luna had dubbed the new race "BRONY," a mixture of the word brother, as the humans loved to collectively refer to themselves as and pony.

"It's...amazing," Twilight gasped.  "The amount of detail and calculation put into this being is simply astounding, but what I don't understand is how are we to accomplish this?"

Celestia smiled at the pony that had been her pupil but months before.  "You'd be surprised what magic can do.  That's why the humans lack the accomplishment and peace that we ponies have, yet they also interest me as they have done far more than I thought possible by technology and faith alone.  We shall unite to create these beings, as with the power of four alicorn princesses, there is nearly nothing we cannot do."

The four agreed and went to work.
