Entry 1: Audio
Mom and Dad got me the most awesomest journal for my birthday. The cover has my name designed on it and everything. They went ALL OUT on this amazing thing! They told me it was enchanted by one of our unicorn friends down in Ponyville so I can either speak it and watch the words come up on the page, or write in it myself! Lalalalalalal leee looo harrarara waahahahah... Wait. Why are the words glowing? Maybe if I poke them… Whoa! It's reading them back to me, like a recording! I can even hear the same background noise! This enchantment is so awesome. The party was cool too, not that I'm one for celebrations and all... Well, I mean if only I am gonna read this... might as well not lie. I loved the party. The decorations were rainbow like my mane! My whole family was there along with Fluttershy... she's really my only friend right now... I haven't been the most sociable with others...
They also told me that since I'm eight I get to start flight school! Fluttershy and I are gonna have such an awesome time, if she opens her wings to get there at least... oh well. With you diary, I mean journal because I'm wayyyyyy too cool to have a lame old diary, I'm not sure if I'll have much time to write because I'll be busy starting flight school and hanging out with all my friends because they'll think I'm so awesome. I'll make sure not to forget Fluttershy when I'm in the Wonderbolts though... or you diary... I mean journal... bye diaryjournalything!
Entry 2: Audio
First day of Flight School! So excited! Woke up super extra early to make sure I get there first. Gonna grab Flutters and get right there. Write, or talk, to ya later!!
Flight School was... AWESOME! We didn't necessarily do much flying but I met a lot of new ponies and can easily tell I'll be the best and the most popular! We got to know each other some and did some wing exercises. We knocked a ball around, shouting our names as we did, as a meeting exercise... of course, everypony's gonna know MY name one day! It was overall amazing though! I swear I saw Fluttershy laugh at one point it was so much fun. But... *A yawn is heard.* I'm just so tired... whoa! You picked up me YAWNING? You are the absolute best thing ever... Dear Celestia I have the best parents EVER! I just wanna hug you diary... so much... there! Hope you liked the hug! Now I’ve gotta go, so I’m shutting you for no- Hey, what's this? For Dashie, the best daughter a parent could ask for! Love your mom and dad! *Dash sniffs.* They wrote that in your front cover... I love them so much. Don't cry Dash... don't cry... *A more tired yawn now.*
Entry 3: Audio
I JUST HATE SOMEPONIES! UGH THEY MAKE ME SO MAD! *The sound of hooves stomping angrily is heard.* Uh, for future reference, those were my hooves stomping. But no, seriously. So Fluttershy and I are sitting there, watching the instructor as he's trying to teach us a flight pattern or something. I don't know because I COULDN'T pay attention. These two colts, Dumbbell, which is actually his name and not an insult believe it or not, and Hoops, were being really stupid and mean! But not to me, to Fluttershy! One of the quietest, nicest fillies there! It's ridiculous! She didn't even do anything, she just sat there listening and they trotted up and began making fun of her for being who she is! NOPONY messes with my friend, and I mean NOPONY that wants an intact muzzle messes with them like that.
“Fluttershy can hardly fly”? They were SINGING IT AND LAUGHING AT HER!
Dashie, everything ok in there? I hear shouting...
Yes mom, just speaking to the journal!

Never mind! Whoa. This is too cool. So, my voice you recognize, so it looks normal? But if it isn't me, it doesn't? Oh well, ha-ha, back to what I was sayin'...
Those two colts deserved to be smacked, so I stepped in. I didn't smack them of course, but I gave them a piece of my mind. Then they turned on me, I suppose, l-long story short... D-dash rhymes w-w-with craaaaasshhhhhhh... *A quieter sniff.* And then to top it alllllll off, we get passed up for the Equestria Games!! The biggest event in Equestria! Cloudsdale is so awesome though so it must've been bribes or some other corruptiony thing... *She sighs sadly.* I-I'm just gonna go to bed... Flight School isn't what I thought it would be, nor is life so far... Goodnight diary, thanks for listening...
Entry 4: Audio
Sorry that it has been nearly three weeks since I've written, er spoke, to you... The bullies kept up on us, we've begun to start tuning them out, me more than Flutters. I can see it in her eyes, they get to her so much and won't stop. They need to learn their place. Well, time to head to school... I'll be back later.
BEST. DAY. EVER. Ok, so Fluttershy and I are sittin' there hangin' around outside during some free time when those two bullies come up, harassing her. I step in this time, finally fed up with their stupidity, and they turned on me again. So this time, I challenged them to a race. Fluttershy and my honor at stake here, but of course, I knew I'd have it; I am Rainbow Dash after all!
So we're sitting there, at the starting line, ready to go. Flutters drops the flag and as we take off, she drops too. I probably should've stopped to get her, but the adrenaline was already coursing through me. So we take off, neck and neck as we hit a few turns. Then comes a sharp turn that Hoops and I made, but Dumbbell, more like Dumbfail, smacks right into a cloud! He's out. It's down to me and Hoops now. After this turn, we began flying downward! I picked up speed quick, my cheeks flapping and my heart racing as I got faster and faster, leaving Hoops FAR behind me! I didn't stop there though, I kept going and picking up more and more speed until a cone of air began forming around me. A CONE of AIR. But it STILL didn't stop there.
The cone keeps building, spiraling as I hear the air whooshing around me. Next thing I know, right as I'm about to hit the ground, I pull up and feel an explosion rocket me even faster on my ascent. I turn my head as I go and see the most amazing, awesome, super, stupendous thing ever. I had just done A SONIC RAINBOOM!! Everypony thought it was just a myth until I did it. ME! RAINBOW DASH! It was so awesome. The explosion sent a rainbow ring expanding off through the sky and into the distance as far as my eye could see. Behind me though trailed an actual rainbow. I CONTROLLED IT! Finally, as I completed my lap, I blew through the finish line and finished the rainbow. When I flew back and landed, everyone was cheering and shouting for me! ME!! It was the most awesome thing ever, hooves down. But when I landed I looked back and saw, brace yourself... MY CUTIE MARK! It's a cloud shooting a rainbow lightning bolt and it, just like everything that happened that day, is awesome.
Later on, I went down to the ground and found Fluttershy hanging out with some animals. Turns out she was a natural at it, and also got her cutie mark too! Both of us, on the same day! I just... feeling light-headed... too much awesomeness... *A loud thud is heard.*
Dash everything ok in here? *A door creaking open is heard.*Haha, honey come look at your daughter, she's fainted.
Aww, how cute. She looks like her father does when he passes out...
Oh come on now, I don't look like that!
Heh, I'm just playing with you dear. Shut her diary and put her in bed...

Sorry about last time, I got a little... overhyped... and sorry about not writing or talking for nearly a year; there hasn't been much to write or talk about, well one thing but we'll get to that today, and apparently I look like my dad when I pass out... swell... ugh... Well, I graduate Flight School next week. Alone. With no friends. So here's that "one thing" prior mentioned... Fluttershy dropped out and is going to move to the surface to pursue her love for animals. She said something about living near a place called Ponyville.
It's actually almost right below Cloudsdale… small world, ha-ha. But yeah, I might join her down there and see what I can't find in the line of work. I might need to talk to mom and dad about this especially, seeing as I do live with them. I mean, nine is a really young age to move out, but if I tell them Fluttershy's doing it, they'll have to let me! I mean, her? On her own? She’s barely a year older than me! Maybe I can use her as an excuse to do it, she is known for being frailer and weaker than most, so maybe she needs someone there to help her get along?
Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh what if we go somewhere and become roommates?! I have to bring this idea up to her. Come on diary, time for you to meet Fluttershy!

Well, there's a large living room, a bathroom, two bedrooms... and that's about it...

Ok. Heading home from Fluttershy's house now. Time to ask mom and dad... This is gonna be tough... "Hey mom and dad, can I move out at the age of eight?" That will go well. Ok. Home now. Here it goes… Hey mom... dad...

Sit down please, we um... need to talk...
What is it dear?
Well mom, I imagine this'll be difficult so uh... here it goes... I want to move to the surface...

Y-you heard me... it's not you guys... It's that, with me graduating flight school soon and all... I think it's time I found my own place... and it isn't as bad as it sounds!
How could it be worse? *Dash's mother sniffs sadly.*
Dashie, explain yourself now... you're making your mother cry!
I'm trying dad! Hold your horses and listen! Fluttershy's going down there and going to live alone. She's like a sister to me! There's no way in all of Equestria I could sleep at night if I knew she went alone. She'd be terrified and alone and I can't let her do that... She needs me, and if she moves, I'll be alone here without friends because she was one of my only ones. You both know that... So please, let me go with her. I promise I'll visit often!

*Heavy stomping and then a slam is heard.* I'M SO TIRED OF THEM! I HATE THIS! I'll write later... I'm just going to cry myself to sleep. *A muffled thump and then some crying and sobbing is heard, slowly it silences and turns to snoring, then a long period of silence follows.*
Dash? *A few knocks sound.*It's your father, open up.
Wh-wha-huh? *A cute and tired yawn is heard.* I fell asleep? O-ok dad... *A door creaks.*
Sit on your bed. This is a talk between you and I only. Your mother fell asleep as well... you and her are too much alike...
A talk about what I brought up earlier?
*He takes on a sarcastic tone.* No Dash, a talk about growing up and becoming a grown mare and how your body changes...
*Chuckling.* Dad... cut it out... I already know all that stuff! Mom and I talked about it like three weeks after the Rainboom thingy...
Oh... well, what's next on the list? How about the theory about the multiverse along with quantum physics and why the world wouldn't bounce if used on a tennis court?

Dash, listen to your mother. Now. About my "upbringings" in Manehattan...
My mother and father enjoyed being on the top of the social ladder. Shoot, my entire family dates back through Manehattan's history. I'm really the first one who got tired of being pompous and uptight and flew the coop, literally speaking, to a more normal town like Cloudsdale. Every day was awful for me with so many lessons, ways to dress, ways to eat, how to eat... it was an endless list. I remember every aspect of it still! That's how hard it was hammered into my head...
*He sighs.*
One day, I couldn't take it anymore and told my parents I wanted to go live elsewhere and be on my own for the first time in my life. I was around your age too Dash... They were torn and tried to bribe me with gifts and cash to stay. Eventually, I told them no was my final answer, and taking barely anything with me, I went to Cloudsdale. I began working as a waiter in Haybales down the street... That's actually where your mom and I met. *Another kiss is heard.*
Really?! We eat there all the time!
You were so nervous taking my order; it was the most adorable thing! Of course, when I'd said I wanted you... I proved to be just as nervous...
I'll admit, I barely managed to fulfill that order with a date and time... So I know how you feel... And exactly Dash, they give me a huge discount, and still mess with us about that night, since they know me so well... I worked there for years after all. Eventually, I got a part-time job with the Junior Speedsters division of Cloudsdale, seeing as the JS is once a year... I manage and take care of finances at Haybales as well, so the pay from both, which is year-round, is pretty nice. That's why we get to send you to places like Flight School and *He whispers.* surprise *Back in a normal tone.*the Junior Speedsters in 3 years when you're old enough.
Th-the Junior... Speedsters?! I didn't even know you worked with them!! I thought you were only with Haybales! OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!
Your father and I talked it over and after your stunt at Flight School they practically begged him to enroll you, so we agreed...
AWESOME! YEA YEA YEA! I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL... Fluttershy... but if I go, that means I can't go with her, doesn't it?

I... didn't leave Manehattan on my own terms... My family kicked me out and made sure I left... All that fancy stuff I remember still? I didn't do a bit of it in public, only in private to appease them; and even then, I was pretty rowdy in public. I kept getting into fights as a young colt, kept embarrassing the family and all that, and eventually, around Dash's age, they threw me out and made sure I left town.
That sure shows us where she gets her spunk from. *Firefly giggles.*

I eventually caught a balloon to Cloudsdale from Ponyville ironically enough. That drained me of what little cash I had brought. Eventually, the owner of Haybales himself found me scrounging through their dumpster...
He asked my story and I explained all that had happened... He offered me a job and the restaurant as a place to crash until I got back to my hooves. Eventually I rented an apartment but kept up as a waiter... then we met a few years later. I'd just turned seventeen and to be hit on by such a beautiful mare two years older than me? Even the owner, my mentor at that point I suppose, saw we had lasting chemistry and promoted me to manager so I'd have an easy time making sure you were treated right. He was probably one of the nicest ponies to me, you being tied with him for first... It was a bucking shame when he died...
I'd always heard he left that place in his will to his closest friend...
Yeah... he'd left it to me... I was what, twenty-three when he died?
Yeah... we had just gotten married three years before that... Thinking back on it, he was your best stallion wasn't he? You two were true friends... I'm really surprised no one put it together before then...
They did when the will was read to all the current employees... But I didn't know anything about owning a restaurant, and then you were pregnant with Dash and I didn't wanna miss a single moment with her...
And you haven't missed one yet... I'm so lucky to have you... *Another kiss is heard, followed by the sounds of it continuing.*
Yeah... as am I with you and Dashie... but when I found myself owning a restaurant... I couldn't do it... So I hunted down his next of kin. Turns out he had a grand-son, about my age too...

Co-owner... he and I... together... but I'm behind the scenes... I mean, no schooling? No true shining background? Ponies would be in an uproar, but I pose as the accountant... which I basically am...
Ok... well, that answers that... but why lie about the JS?
Babe... we both know why... Money is in a really tight spot for us... Don't you know Dashie would feel awful if she knew putting her in Flight School eradicated pretty much the last of what we had? What if she found out the only way she's going to Junior Speedsters is because of that Sonic Rainboom? She's so remorsefully loyal at times it's heartbreaking... I mean, leaving us so she can keep watch over her friend? I don't wanna sound rude, but Fluttershy wouldn't last a week without someone like Dash with her...
She really wouldn't... How could her parents honestly let her go?
I don't know... nor do I really want to... but Dashie would've dropped out immediately had she known... I wish the restaurant paid me what we really needed... I just can't stand it! She looks up to us so much! Imagine if she found out we were barely scrapping by! It'd crush her entirely! She can't find out!
*Whispered.* Dear! She's sleeping right there and you're shouting!
I-I'm sorry... I just don't want to be looked at as the dad who can't do a damn thing for his daughter because he can't get a*Obvious sobbing now as he speaks.* d-decent cash-in from his job... She looks up to us as the greatest p-parents in all of Equestria! In the whole world for Celestia's sake!

*Whispering.* I was awake most of that time... They didn't realize it and forgot about you being open as well diary... But, they were wrong... I don't hate them; I love them so bucking much. Goodnight diary, I love you as well and I guess I'll be quiet on their whole ordeal as well... it's for the best...
Entry 7: Audio
Graduation Day... Whoa... biggest day of my life right now. I'm incredibly nervous but I know everything will go amazingly. My mom got me all dressed up for the occasion with a dress she made for me herself... Bleh, I look so girly in it, but I can't complain because girly or not, I look pretty good! *She giggles.* Rocking a magenta dress, same color as my eyes! Lovin' every moment of it!
Of course, I'll have to play it off as if I hate it... It'll break my mom's heart, but... Actually, you know what? I'll be honest... I'll tell them all I love it, if they make a crack at it, and that it's the best dress ever because my mom made it! Aww yea! Giving them whatfor again! Dashie: a billion and bullies: none! Time to get outta here and get my DIPLOMA!
Calm down in there Rainbow! You don't need to sprain a wing before your performance tonight.
P-performance?
Didn't they tell you at school? Every student has to perform at graduation after they get their diploma!
Oh, yeah dad... Th-that... *Now whispering.* No one told me anything about that! I'm so scared right now... what if I fail? Or mess up? Or die? Oh no, come on Dashie, you're Dash! Rainbow Dash! That's why you'll do this without a hitch! I hope... Time to try for a Sonic Rainboom tonight... I-I... oh my gosh... Time to go, bye!

Graduation. Sucked. I'm crying so hard right now... That's why I'm physically writing this, you don't need to hear me sob and sputter everywhere. Mom and dad told me it'd be ok, I didn't fail that bad. I mean, I only about took out a whole section of students trying to do my Rainboom... I'm better off going to the surface with Fluttershy and staying. Screw the Speedsters... Screw Cloudsdale... We're laughingstocks and outcasts and we have been for a while now... I love my family, but if they want to see me again, they'll have to visit... I've never felt this defeated before. Ever. What kind of luck does somepony have to have to go through this at 9...? Oh wait. My luck. Hopefully things will be better within 3 years and I won't have any troubles when I go to the Junior Speedsters, if I still want to go. I'm going for now though. We'll TALK later, I promise.
Entry 8: Audio
Well, it looks like it’s finally time for Fluttershy and me to leave. I’ve graduated and we’ve packed everything we have, all that’s left are the good-byes. Fluttershy already told her parents hers, so that leaves mine before we head down. She’s waiting outside, so it looks like I’ll have to be kind of quick here. I’ll set you open in my bag so I can have this recorded for me because I want as much of my parents on here as I can, just in case I get a tad homesick. Not that I would though, I’ve already worked past all that mushy stuff because I know when I get on the Wonderbolts, we’ll be traveling all around Equestria!
Hey, Dash, you about ready? All of the luggage made it down to your new home and the balloon is almost back… Fluttershy’s also ready as well so you don’t have too much longer.
Yeah dad, I’m pretty much ready. Just gotta put my diary in my bag aaaaand there we go. I’m all ready to get goin’ to Ponyville!
Alright dear, your mother is waiting in the living room; we’ll see you in a minute. *Rainbolt is heard walking away.*
*Some shuffling occurs, then Rainbow’s voice is clear again.* Alright mom and dad… This is it, isn’t it?

*Dash’s voice is confident but obviously holding back tears.* Yea mom, no need to worry. I’m growing up, and eventually this was going to happen, you’ve had to have been in my horseshoes yourself.
*She giggles quietly, sadness still obvious in her voice.* Yes, I did at one point… But that seems so long ago.
