Chapters The day begins in the halls of the Canterlot magic school. In a fairly used hall of the school there was a dark red pony, with a black mane, and with a cutie mark of beakers, his name was Regal.
Well today was a day that he thought that was going to be a normal day. He was supposed to in his levitation class, but instead he was on his way to the library, while he was in the hallway, he heard the schools PA system turn on “attention to all student the school is going into lockdown. All students please stay inside your classrooms or for those inside the hallways, run to the nearest available room” over the intercom.
“That didn’t sound like the principle, there’s something about that voice that sounds familiar,” thought Regal. He stopped walking and panicked, he thought he had heard somepony walking behind him, and the only room that was close was the Janitor room. So that is where he hid, all he could see through was the little crack on the bottom of the door and saw a shadow of somepony stopping in front of it. He tried holding his breath to make sure that the pony won’t be able hear him, “But, what if it’s a teacher?” he thought, “Should I take the cha….” The doorknob started to shake, “To bad I don’t know an invisibility spell.” The door opens and there stands a dark blue pony with a brown mane and the cutie mark of a red moon, in come his childhood best friend, Night Rush.
Night and Regal have been best friends since they were colts. Night wasn’t really one to pick fights, or even to try to defend himself. Whenever Night was caught into a situation with some of the neighborhood colts, Regal would always be there for him. Regal was the only pony that Night could talk to and know that whatever he shared with Regal, would stay between them.
Regal was to be sent to the magic school in Canterlot and Regal was lucky enough to bring Night along. Regal had an easy time in school while Night struggled to get by. He had a hard time getting through his classes, without the help of Regal. Regal was the bookworm while Night was the hoofs-on building pony type.
Night would get bullied whenever Regal was never at school. The next day that Regal would show up, Night would tell him about what happened the previous day. The only thing that Regal could do is just try to comfort him. Even though that was the only thing he could do, it still worked.
When Night was young, his parents had died while he was asleep. Someponys say that they had died in their sleep, others say that they had killed each other. There are some that also suggest that one of them committed suicide and the other couldn’t live without the other, forgetting about Night Rush all at one time. The most possible solution on how they died was that a thief broke in and killed them. Unfortunately, no pony knows what actually happened. The only family he had was Regal, to him he was a brother.
“Night! Where, how? Do you know what in Lunas sake is going on?” Regal asked.
“Regal…I didn’t know that you would be here…I thought you would’ve been home today,” worried Night.
“No, my parents made me come to school today even if it’s just for the same levitation class that I have had for the past 2 years.”
“Well Regal, I really think that you should go home,” Night demanded.
“Well obviously I want to leave but I can’t. Remember the whole school is on lockdown, plus who knows if the Royal Guard is on their way. Hell I’ll be surprised if even Princess Celestia shows up!” Regal said sarcastically.
“Regal I know…
“Have you been able to see what has been going on?”
“Regal…can you please…,” but got interrupted again.
“Night can you tell me”
“REGAL!” Regal was shocked that Night had raised his voice at him. It was the first time that he had heard Night raise his voice.
“I’m sorry Night I’m just happy to see that you are okay.”
“Its fine…just listen to me…I am the reason why the school is on lockdown.”
Regal is to stunned to be able say anything.
“Surprised right?”
“What?! This cannot be right…are you joking with me?” questioned Regal
“No, I am not joking with you,” he assured Regal.
“What happened?”
“No pony has hardly ever liked me for who I am. I can’t even get noticed around the nerds of the school. Do you even think I can even get a mare friend? I have had enough with everypony treating me like an outcast….I’ll show them Regal…you will see,” he said with anger and hatred in his voice.
“Can’t we try to talk this over?” reasoned Regal.
“NO! I have already started, I have had it with this place,” Night yelled.
“Can you at least tell me what happened?” he asked nicely.
“If you really want to know then fine.”
“Regal, this all started a couple of weeks ago, when you had to skip school for that whole week, since you were sick. Do you remember?” Night asked.
“Yes I remember, and they started picking on you because I wasn’t around to protect you?”
“Yes it was. And can you guess who were the ones picking on me?”
Regal took a while to try to think of who, but no one came to mind, “No I can’t think of anypony”
“Well it was your so called ‘friends’…,” he says sarcastically, “they took the advantage of you being away for the week. So, they decided to mock me by my past through out the whole school.”
“What did they do to you?” Regal asked.
“They started spreading rumors that I was the one that killed my parents. They said things to them that can make sense and lead everything back to me. Most of the school believed them, some didn’t. Even some of the faculty believed it and moved my seat to the back of the class. They made my life more miserable than I thought it could get.”
“I’m so sorry Night.”
Night ignored him and continued, “So the same day that you came back, I decided to stay home, and try to find a way that I could convince them that I am not a killer. Nothing would have worked, so I thought about sending a letter to Celestia but I knew she wouldn’t have done anything about it. So instead I took matters into my own hooves, I started coming up with these ideas, some crazy ideas. If they wanted me to be seen as a killer, I will give them a killer. I wanted to see them hurt, so I thought about making some type of bomb, but then I thought about it, nooohooo I want to see their face and I want them to know who did it. So I decided to make a spell that would paralyze them permanently. Some will die right away but, I think that is fine. But hey I am a killer right? I guess that’s what killers do.”
“Night, yes what they did to you was wrong. Making it seem that you would kill your own parents is stupid. Couldn’t you have found a better way to fix all of this? Did you even try talking with the headmaster?”
“Hahaha! The headmaster?! He did the same thing as everpony. He just ignored me and just said no. He said that he can control rumors.”
“So this morning I came in very early and had a private chat with him, and I asked him one last time to tell everypony in the school to know that I am not a killer. I also told him that if he didn’t, there would be a big problem on his hooves. Can you guess what he said?” He asked Regal.
“He said no,” Regal answered.
“Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner! So I did what needed to be done. Hehe the fool still sids in his office, ohh what a face he has…,” Night leans in towards Regal and whispers, “It’s so priceless! HA!”

“Captain Shining Armor! We need you right away! There is an urgent emergency at the magic school!” a Royal Guard Corporal came rushing in.
“Whoa, whoa, Corporal, relax. Do you have any details about what is going on there?” He demanded.
“There have been reports that a student of the school had started attacking other students,” The Corporal said as slowly as he could.
“Is there anything else I need to know Corporal?” He asked.
“No sir, that is all the info I have for now.”
“Very good, you are dismissed.”
The Corporal salutes his hoof to head and clacks his back hooves together and gallops out.
Cadence is the first to speak between them, “Well then, our timing couldn’t have been better right hun?”
“Yeah cadi, I was just hoping that today it could have just been for you and I. after a week of work, and on my only day off, and somepony has to attack the school,” he said as he threw his hooves into the air.
“Don’t worry once this is done and over with I can give a day you definitely deserve,” promised Cadence, “But right now you need to go and do your job. Being the Captain of the Royal Guard.”
“Yeah I know and that’s what I am going to go do. I will look for that day off, but right now I have to go and get ready,” After he gets ready, he gives her a kiss.
“Go and be careful! I don’t want to have to save you again!” she told him.
“Don’t worry I will and you won’t need to!” he replied back.
“Love you!” she yelled after him.
“Love you too!” he said back.
Shining Armor steps into the Celestia’s main hall, now in his Captain of the Royal Guard uniform, “Princess Celestia, I am sure you have heard of the situation at hoof?” He asked.
“Why yes I have Captain, probably a little more than you at the moment.”
“Princess, how would you like me to handle the situation?”
“Captain, you can do any action that you see necessary.”
“Yes my Princess,” he bowed.
As the captain was leaving, “Oh and Shining Armor…,” he stops to listen carefully for she rarely calls him by his actual name without saying ‘Captain’ first and only in dire situations, “I am sorry, but Twilight was heading to the school this morning, and nopony has seen her since the school has been on lockdown.”
“I don’t know, I haven’t received word of them reporting in. The only thing that we can do is just hope that they are all safe.”
“Is there anything else I need to know?” he asked, trying to hide away his anger.
“There is nothing else Captain, you are dismissed.”
As the doors closed behind him, it had pained him to hear those words. “Dammit! Twilie why couldn’t you wait for me to go with you?” he thought. Now he was heading out towards the barracks to talk to his Lieutenant.
“Lieutenant! Attention!” Shining Armor ordered.
“Yes sir!” The Lieutenant responded.
“Lieutenant! I would like you to get your best guard’s out to the magic school, Pegasus, earth, and unicorns alike.” He ordered.
“Right away sir!”
“Lieutenant, there is one last favor that I need to ask you, rally the special forces. There is a royal hostage inside the school.”
“Is it Princess Twilight?” the Lieutenant asked.
“Yes it is Lieutenant, how did you know?”
“Sir, I was assigned to her guard this morning. When we got to the school she told us that she didn’t need guards and ordered us to head back to the castle. So we followed orders, but I had told two guards to stay behind, just to be safe,” The Lieutenant assured him.
”That’s good, have you received any reports from them?” questioned Shining Armor.
“Yes actually, they have reported that they have taken refuge inside the school’s library and managed to save a couple students.”
“Ok that’s some good news, and for now on Lieutenant, even if she orders you to leave her always stay nearby. Consider that an order for all royal visits, and let every high rank guard about this standing order. Do I make myself clear Lieutenant?”
“Yes sir, of course sir. I will let every guard know about the order,” The Lieutenant replied.
“Good you are dismissed.”
They do their salute and the Lieutenant leaves that barracks, leaving the white pony all alone, and in silence. The only thing that he can do is remember a moment with his sister on her first day of magic school.
“Don’t worry big brother I can take care of myself,” she assured her older brother, I am sure that I can make friends that can keep me busy and that can watch over me.”
”I know you will, I am sure that you will make plenty of friends, I just that…”
“Just that what?”
“Just that you might…oof,” he stopped and realized that Twilight gave him a big hug, “ok, ok, I won’t worry. Now you should go, you don’t want to be late on your fist day right?”
“No I don’t! ok big brother I’ll go now! Bye!”
“Captain Shining Armor!” the voice of the Lieutenant wakes up Shining Armor.
“Yes Lieutenant?”
“It is time.”
“Ok thank you Lieutenant, you can leave now,” as soon as the Lieutenant left, Shining Armor whispers to himself, “Don’t worry Twilie, I am coming for you. I am going to save you, even if it is the last thing I do for you!”

Night Rush had started to calm down from his laugh, but is still a little bit excited for what is about to come, “Can you hear what is going on outside Regal?! That is the sound of my fall! They are going to be the ones that will kill me! Haha! You may think that Regal but that is not what is going to happen today! They don’t know what to expect! Even those wearing their armor is pointless! My spell can work through just about anything, one little piece of flesh that is exposed can paralyze them for good!
Night had noticed that Regal had moved to the corner of the janitors closet, in fright looking at him with wide open eyes, “Regal, I am sorry…but I have to do this…they want to make me a killer, then I will be a killer. It’s already too late to stop me…but I can’t stop you from leaving. I want you to leave and go home.”
“That’s it? You just want me to leave? Just leave the school and let everypony else stay here and let you kill them?”
“Yes” was Nights answer.
“That’s it? Just a yes?”
Night nods this time.
“And if I don’t leave? Then what will you do?” Regal said in an angered tone.
“Then I will treat you like everypony else” Night simply said.
Frightened for his life Regal replies, “fine I will go but if I find anypony they are coming with me.”
“That’s fine with me. Now leave, I have something that I need to do.”
As Regal stepped out into the deserted hallway he turns around towards Night, “why don’t you come with me?”
“Regal, I want to, but I can’t. I need to do this they mock me for who I am not. They can’t see me as who I really am, and I will show them what they want me to be. Plus the guards will not let this go by easily you know? I am better off in here.”
Night pushes Regal towards the way out, “now go, go home and don’t come back in here to change my mind.”
“Fine, then this is goodbye. Goodbye Night.”
“Goodbye Regal.”
Regal heads down the stairs the next floor, while Night goes the other way. Once Regal, couldn’t see Night he stood still and waited to follow him.
Night just stood there, hating the fact that he just lost his only friend, all the stuff he has been through with Regal means nothing to him anymore, “oh well, those memories are gone now. I can now focus on what I had wanted to do. I also might throw in a little extra present for myself. But I need to know if the rumors I heard this morning was true. Heh, a princess in the school what perfect timing. With her I can show how far I am willing to go in murder, but I really won’t hurt her, I will see what I can get out in holding her hostage, maybe a nice ransom would be nice, well then again that’s if the rumors are true and I hope they are true.” Night trots forward into the maze of hallways.
Regal takes a breath as soon as Night leaves and thinks to himself, “I never heard that there was a Princess on school grounds. I wonder who it is, no don’t get distracted, I can’t let Night use the Princess to own will. Night you were my friend, you’re an enemy of the guard, but now you’re my enemy."

Night was slowly trotting through the dark dead hallways of Canterlot Magic School, checking every other classroom to see if the Princess was hiding there, or maybe other students that can tell him where she could be and which Princess it is. “Now where is this…Princess that everypony keeps on talking about?” Night starts to sing a familiar tune, “oh where oh where could the princess have gone, oh where oh where could she be...?” Night becomes a little frustrated and yells, “Come out here Princess I know you’re here!” It stayed quiet as he expected. Night sighs and whispers to himself, “I guess I am going to have to do this the hard way then…now what is the nearest classroom…?” looks a couple of feet down the hallway and sees a door with a small glimmering light. “Well something is telling me I should check in there first.”
Night begins to trot over to the classroom door, “Let’s see if she is behind door number 1!” Night bumps his head into the door, “Ooff, well of course it is locked…it only tempts me more.” he uses an unlocking spell on the door, “huh did they forget to use an unlockable spell that they can only use?”
Night looks at the door one last time and bursts inside.
“Ahh!” screamed the three mares inside.
“Why does everypony have to scream when I am around?”
A light orange mare with a yellow mane and with a cutie mark that had several shimmering stars talks first, “umm excuse me but are you going to help us?”
Night laughs, “help you? Nonono, you’re going to help me.”
The other two ponies that looked like twins both were cyan with light blue manes talked first this time, “what do you mean help you?”
“No!” Night interrupted, “How many times have I said that I can’t leave! Why doesn’t anypony understand that?!”
“Why can’t you leave?” then the light orange pony realized something, “Hey wait a sec, is your name Night Rush?”
“Yes, why?”
“I know you! Don’t you remember me?”
“No” Night replied.
“Its Shimmer shine, we sat together in potion making class,” she said.
“Oh yeah I think I remember…don’t get me side tracked here,” he snaps back into his right mind set, “Look all I need is some questions answered and then I can be on my way and you three could get out of here without being harmed.”
“Night don’t tell me that you are the one that caused the school to go into lockdown?” Shimmer Shine asked.
“Well yeah, let’s just say that it had all started with some rumors that had spread throughout the school.”
Shimmer shine replies in a low tone, “Was it the one about you being the one that killed your parents…?”
“YES! You don’t need to remind me about it! Don’t you think that it has been hard for myself to even live without them? Plus being alone and nopony liking me for who I am!” Night begins to tear up.
Shimmer Shine speaks again, “Well to tell you the truth Night I never believed those rumors.”
“Well that’s one pony out of the whole school, what about you two? What do you think of me huh?! Do you two think of me as a killer?”
“Well the fact that you’re the reason for the schools lockdown…,” one said.
“Then maybe…” said the other.
“Ohhhoh, you’re so close to see why that I am here.” Night said angered by their answer.
“Umm…Night before we tell you whatever you need,” Shimmer said, “there is something that I need to tell you…”
“What is it?” He replied quickly.
“I have always had a crush on you…I was just too shy to tell you…”
Night seems to be frozen as soon as he heard say those words…all this time he thought that nopony liked him. “You what…?”
“You what…?” the twins said.
“I love him…” she replied….
“Umm…” that was all he said before she gave him a quick kiss.
“Ok…” said the twins and Shimmer.
“Are the rumors true of a princess visiting the castle?” Night said seriously.
The twins replied first, “No, there is no princess.”
Shimmer sighs, “Not saying this because of what I said earlier, but yes there is…can you let us go now?”
The twins became angry when she said that.
“Ok now where is she?”
“She is in the library,” Shimmer answered.
“You traitor!” yelled the twins.
“Don’t you want to leave?!” Shimmer yelled back.
“Yes!” said one twin.
“But you didn’t have to tell him,” said the other.
Both twins looked at each other and nodded, now both of them yell and charge towards Night, “For the Princess!”
After a quick flash of light the twins just fall to the ground, frozen, looking lifeless but with the last expression that they last had.
“What…? Why Night?”
“Go get out of here, I don’t need to hurt anypony else. Especially somepony who loves me…I am sorry…just go.”
She doesn’t hesitate and leaves the classroom, but before she leaves into the hallway she looks back into the classroom, looks at Night one last time, looks down and begins to cry. “Goodbye Night,” and disappears into the hallway.
“Goodbye, Shimmer Shine.”
There he was again, all by himself, inside of a classroom with two frozen ponies, thinking about his next move. “I would expect the Princess to have a few guards huh?” he says to the frozen twins, “well I am sure that I can take care of them if they are separated…well twins what do you think?”
“Oh we are sure that you can take them Night” he said mocking the twins.

There was a sound of armor plating clacking against one another. At the head of it all was Shining Armor, the fearless Captain of the Royal Guard. To him the sound that the armor made him feel more determined and eager for a good fight, but today was different, this time he was marching to get his sister out of the Canterlot magic school. If he messed up he will end up becoming an only child. He raises his hoof into the air to stop the march, “Halt!” the small army of royal guards all stop in an instant, making it quiet.
“Alright men, listen up! We have been ordered to enter the school and help all the survivors you can find, if they think you’re an enemy, try convincing them by any means necessary. Protect those that you do save and make sure they get back outside in one piece. If you come across a target that threatens your life take any action you see fit, but be careful for survivors that will try to fight back. Now await for further instruction, return here in 10 minutes!”
“Yes Sir!” they all yell.
10 minutes pass by and the small army falls back into place, and Shining Armor steps back onto a wooden block. “Alright here is what is going to happen. You will be split into teams of three, one earth pony, one unicorn and one Pegasus. Guard each other with your lives. Now split into your designated team and move out!”
“Sir Yes Sir!” they all yelled.
His men dispersed into their teams and began to slowly to move into school, one team every two minutes.
“Are you sure that plan of yours is gonna work fine? Ah’m sure it is. And who are ya going in with?” said a voice that came behind Shining Armor.
He turns around to see his big red, yellow haired friend, “Big Macintosh! Where did you come from? I thought you were still in ponyville?” questioned Shining Armor.
“Ah was, till ah heard that they needed some extra help from the best, so now ah’m ‘ere. Plus ah couldn’t deny helping one of mah sister’s friends and of course mah best pal,” answered Macintosh.
“Thanks Macintosh I am sure that I could use all the help that I can get. I was planning on taking a recruit inside with me but now that you’re here I let him stay, he seemed to be a little frightened, so what do you say like old times? You in?”
“Ah will be offended if ya didn’t ask. Yeah sure like ‘ld times,” Macintosh playfully punched Shining Armor.
It took a while for Shining Armor to get used to the fact that Big Macintosh was in the Royal Guard, and a Sergeant Major for that matter. It was rare for Macintosh to leave Sweet Apple Acres, but this was very shocking for Shining Armor and especially everyone in the apple family. The reason for his leave on the farm was mainly because Applebloom was older and was able to help during the harvest season and Applejack encouraged to do something other than buck apples. So that is why he joined the Royal Guards.
His training was easy for him, top of his squad matter of fact. When he was out in the field he followed orders without asking questions and can finish his duties quicker than other recruits. Shining Armor got word of him and asked to make him Sergeant Major, he could have been a Captain as well but denied it and agreed to Sergeant Major. With his promotion he was able to send all of his bits that he earned back to the farm so they can make a new barn, a better one, and many more.
“So eh Capt’n,” said Macintosh.
“Hey Mac theres no need to call me Captain, heh how many time have I told you not to call me that? Were friends remember?” laughed Shining Armor.
“Yeah sorry, ah keep forget’n, so ‘Shining Armor’,” he laughs, “are we gonna go ‘nside?”
“Of course, now lets get any supplies that we may have forgotten and lets go, say meet back here in 5?” says Shining Armor.
“Eeyup.”
5 minutes pass.
“Ok, got all your stuff?” Shining Armor asks?
“Eeyup,” Macintosh simply answered.
“Alright, lets get in there and find this bastard,” Shining Armor said.
“Eeyup!”

Sorry for another short chapter! I was really busy this weekend with work. please let me know if anything needs to be fixed or made clear. ill see if I can finish the next chapter early so I can try to make it longer.
The hallways were empty; it seemed to feel like there hasn't been a pony down this way in years. Regal trotted down those hallways. Every door was locked, seemed to be barricaded, and blacked out. The school was turned into a ghost town.
"Alright Night, I'm not going to let you hurt Princess Twilight."
However, all Regal knew that he was supposed to get to the library before Night did.
As he continued to look for Princess Twilight, he made an oath to himself. “Even if I had to, he would sacrifice myself to save her. Hopefully with my sacrifice, Night would stop and turn himself in or realize that he can hurt others that he truly cares for.
Years of knowing on how Night was bullied, from being called names and just being mocked. This time, it was personal, he was never given blame for killing his parents, his parents loved him, and they would always talk to Night whenever he was depressed or down. Regal in a way was kind of jealous of Night's parents. Regals own parents loved him, of course, but not as much as Night's parents loved Night.
Regal remembered how Night used to be before his parents had died and the day when the depression took over Night.
Regal had tried getting him back to the way he used to be, but he had been bullied more after his parents had died.
Murder. Killer. Savage.
It didn’t matter.
Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words cut deeper than the sharpest sword.
Finally, Regal was approaching the library and was about to head inside when he heard hoofsteps coming from behind him. He just sat there knowing if it was Night, he can stop him.This was his moment to put it to an end, an end to his scheme.
And when the hoofsteps turned the corner, he was a little worried, but happy to see who it was.
