Kenzie Pt:1
Inspired By True Events
It had been a good enough day so far for Sean. None of his classes had been particularly difficult and somewhat intreasting. Then again, it was only third period so it really wasn't right to draw conclusions on the day whenever he wasn't even halfway through. Still, he liked to think that the rest of the day would be like the morning had been. But wishes can't always come true.
Sean sat in his home room class doodling pocture of nothing in particular. Just a pony standing on the edge of a cliff and peering over the edge when an office aid knocked on the door and walked in. The aid walked into class with a small white slip of paper following her with her magic.
The entire class was watching the pass intently as it was their ticket out of home room, the most boring class of the day. The aid levitated it to the teacher and turned to walk out of the room. The teacher, a tall chestnut pony with a dark hewn mane, looked over the pass and then up to the class. He made eye contact with Sean and made a motion for him to. One to his desk.
Sean stood up from his desk and trotted towards the teacher. "Counseler." He said handing Sean the pass. Sean took it in his wing and looked over it. Sure enough, he was being called down to counseler's office. What for, he had no idea. But it was a las out of this class, so he gladly put the pass in his pocket and trotted out of the class and down to the office.
His hooves clicked on he tile of the halls giving them an empty feeling, and empty they were. And he loved it that way. Not only did it give him time to think, but it also gave him space to stretch his wings. He let his orange wings fan out and stretched his back. That was the problem with going to school on the ground rather than in Cloudsdale, there weren't any flying classes or space at all when he got to use his wings.
He pulled the feathery appendages back into his body as he reached the office. He pushed the door open and walked past the secretary with a wave before knocking on the door to the counseler's office. "Come in." A rough voice said from the other side of the door. That didn't sound like your counseler, especially since she was a mare. But he pushed open the door and walked in. The room was empty except for the counseler and a tall stallion in a grey suit standing next to her.
"Thanks for coming down Sean, please take a seat." She said. Sean didn't know what this was about, but he could feel the sadness in the air. "You were friends with Kinzie Worthington, weren't you." The counseler said. At the sound of your friend's name, your ears perked up.
"Yeah, why." Sean asked. The counseler swallowed hard and took a deep breath for what she had to say next.
"Sean, I'm sorry to tell you but Kinzie's body was found this morning."
"Body? What do you mean?" Sean asked as of they had been joking, but he already knew what was coming next.
"Her body, she overdosed on sleeping pills and passed away last night." The counseler said, her voice cracked half way through the sentence and she was obviously choking back tears. But Sean couldn't hold anything back. He felt his throat grow dry and tears well up in his eyes.
"Look, if this is a joke, i-it's not funny." He said, a son rising in his throat. The counseler just shook her head and trying to keep the tears back, but tears were welling up on her eyes as well. "And, why is he here." Sean asked taking a deep breath and choking back the sob, but allowing a few tears to fall down his cheeks.
He stallion stepped forward and pulled an envelope out of his suit pocket and gave it to Sean. "This was found on her nightstand addressed to you. She wrote it before she died." He said. Sean clutched the letter in his hoof, staring at the hoof written signature. The thin, loopy writing that Kinzie had always been known for now spelled out his name in the front of this envelope. Without hesitation, he flipped it over and tore it open.
Inside was a simple piece of copy paper and a small picture. You set the picture aside and unfolded the compy paper and began to read her writing.
Dear Sean,
If you're reading this, then they must have found my body. I'm so sorry that it came to this, but I didn't know what else to do. You're the only reason I didn't do this earlier, but I can't bear it anymore. It's all too much for me now. All the stress coupled with the other mares was just too much for me to bear. I wish I could be as strong as you are, silently dealing with your problems, but I'm not. I'm weak, and I ended the pain. I'm so sorry Sean, I know that this will hurt you, and I hate myself for it, but you can't let it break you. Do it for me, please.
I never told you what I was planning because I knew you would try to stop me. Convince me that there was something worth living for, like you always did. I loved you Sean, but I never had the courage to tell you. I wasn't sure what you would think of me, how our friendship would be after I told you, if you would say yes. But I guess it's now or never, right? I guess last words are funny like that? Make you say things that you'd always kept inside. It's kind of funny to be honest.

Sean read through the letter three times, each time in her voice, before resting it on his knee and picking up the picture. It was an old photo of you and her in middle school. Sitting on the steps outside the school. The two of you looked much younger in the picture, but the resemblance was still there. Even with the tears in your eyes, you smiled. Not at the picture, but at the memories. You turned it over and read the writing on the back. Simpler times and happier places.
But as he set the picture on the letter, the gravity of the situation came back to him. She was gone, and she wasn't coming back. It wasn't like being sick and she would be back to school next week, she was gone. She was dead. No, not dead, just asleep. For a very long time. He let a few more tears fall down his face before standing back up.
Without saying bye to the counseler or the stallion, he turned and walked out of the office. The aid made a move to write you a pass back to class, but your tear strewn face was enough of an answer for you. The unicorn that had brought the pas down to your class, rested a hoof on his shoulder, but Sean kept walking, ignoring the gesture.
As he walked back down to his class, the bell rang and ponies started to put out of the class rooms, shoving past each other in the halls and bumping into each other. But Sean ignored the chaos and kept walking. He was numb to the noise of others. And as he came up to his class, he walked in and grabbed his stuff.
"So, what was that about?" The teacher asked. Sean didn't answer him and turned back to the door which slammed shut and was surrounded by a light green aura. "I asked you a question, flyboy." Using the spiteful name that had been given to pegasi by the unicorns ages ago. Sean stopped and turned to the teacher.
"Go buck yourself." He said grabbing the door and pulling it open with only some minor resistance from the teacher's magic and out into the hall which was nearly empty. Bit he didn't turn to his next class, but to the doors that lead out. Without thinking he sprinted through the doors and out into the late morning sunlight.
